והוה בשנת ארבע לדריוש מלכא הוה פתגם נבואה מן קדם יי עם זכריה בארבעא לירחא תשעאה בכסלו:
bkslw thsheah lyrkha barbea zkryh em yy qdm mn nbwah pthgm hwh mlka ldrywsh arbe bshnth whwh
In the fourth year of King Darius, Yahweh’s word came to Zechariah in the fourth day of the ninth month, the month of Chislev.

ושלח לבית אל שראצר ורגם מלך וגברוהי לצלאה קדם יי:
yy qdm ltslah wgbrwhy mlk wrgm shratsr al lbyth wshlkh
The people of Bethel sent Sharezer and Regem Melech and their men to entreat Yahweh’s favor,

למימר לכהניא די משמשין בבית מקדשא דיי צבאות ולספריא למימר דאבכי בירחא חמישאה אמנע נפשין מתפנוקין כמא דעבדית דנן כמה שנין:
shnyn kmh dnn debdyth kma mthpnwqyn npshyn amne khmyshah byrkha dabky lmymr wlsprya tsbawth dyy mqdsha bbyth mshmshyn dy lkhnya lmymr
and to speak to the priests of the house of Yahweh of Armies and to the prophets, saying, “Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?”

והוה פתגם נבואה מן קדם יי עמי למימר:
lmymr emy yy qdm mn nbwah pthgm whwh
Then the word of Yahweh of Armies came to me, saying,

אמר לכל עמא דארעא ולכהניא למימר ארי צימין אתון וספדין בחמשא ובשביעאה דנן שבעין שנין הצום תעני אתון מתענין קדמי:
qdmy mthenyn athwn theny htswm shnyn shbeyn dnn wbshbyeah bkhmsha wspdyn athwn tsymyn ary lmymr wlkhnya darea ema lkl amr
“Speak to all the people of the land and to the priests, saying, ‘When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and in the seventh month for these seventy years, did you at all fast to me, really to me?

ודאתון אכלין ודאתון שתי הלא לאיטבא לכון אתון שתן:
shthn athwn lkwn layTba hla shthy wdathwn aklyn wdathwn
When you eat and when you drink, don’t you eat for yourselves and drink for yourselves?

הלא ית פתגמא דשלח יי ביד נבייא קדמאי כד הות ירושלם יתבא ושליוא וקרוהא סחרינהא ודרומא ושפילתא יתיב:
ythyb wshpyltha wdrwma skhrynha wqrwha wshlywa ythba yrwshlm hwth kd qdmay nbyya byd yy dshlkh pthgma yth hla
Aren’t these the words which Yahweh proclaimed by the former prophets when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and its cities around her, and the South and the lowland were inhabited?’”

והוה פתגם נבואה מן קדם יי עם זכריה למימר:
lmymr zkryh em yy qdm mn nbwah pthgm whwh
Yahweh’s word came to Zechariah, saying,

כדנן אמר יי צבאות למימר דין דקשוט דינו וחסדא ורחמי עבידו גבר עם אחוהי:
akhwhy em gbr ebydw wrkhmy wkhsda dynw dqshwT dyn lmymr tsbawth yy amr kdnn
“Thus has Yahweh of Armies spoken, saying, ‘Execute true judgment, and show kindness and compassion every man to his brother.

וארמלא ויתם וגיור ומסכן לא תינסון ובישת גבר עם אחוהי לא תחשבון בלבכון:
blbkwn thkhshbwn la akhwhy em gbr wbyshth thynswn la wmskn wgywr wythm warmla
Don’t oppress the widow, the fatherless, the foreigner, nor the poor; and let none of you devise evil against his brother in your heart.’

וסריבו לקבלא ויהבו כתפיהון מריד ואודניהון יקירו מלמשמע:
mlmshme yqyrw wawdnyhwn mryd kthpyhwn wyhbw lqbla wsrybw
But they refused to listen, and turned their backs, and stopped their ears, that they might not hear.

ולבהון שויאו תקיף כשמירא מלקבלא אוריתא וית פתגמיא די שלח יי צבאות במימריה ביד נבייא קדמאי והוה רגז רב מן קדם יי צבאות:
tsbawth yy qdm mn rb rgz whwh qdmay nbyya byd bmymryh tsbawth yy shlkh dy pthgmya wyth awrytha mlqbla kshmyra thqyp shwyaw wlbhwn
Yes, they made their hearts as hard as flint, lest they might hear the law and the words which Yahweh of Armies had sent by his Spirit by the former prophets. Therefore great wrath came from Yahweh of Armies.

ויהי כמא דאתנביאו להון נבייא ולא קבילו כן יצלון קדמי ולא אקביל אמר יי צבאות:
tsbawth yy amr aqbyl wla qdmy ytslwn kn qbylw wla nbyya lhwn dathnbyaw kma wyhy
It has come to pass that, as he called and they refused to listen, so they will call and I will not listen,” said Yahweh of Armies;

ואבדרינון ביני עממיא די לא ידעונון וארעא תצדי בתריהון מדעדי ומדתאיב על דשויאו ארעא דחמדתא לצדו:
ltsdw dkhmdtha area dshwyaw el wmdthayb mdedy bthryhwn thtsdy warea ydewnwn la dy emmya byny wabdrynwn
“but I will scatter them with a whirlwind among all the nations which they have not known. Thus the land was desolate after them, so that no man passed through nor returned; for they made the pleasant land desolate.”
