Hear my teaching, my people. Turn your ears to the words of my mouth.

ܗܐ ܓܝܪ ܐܦܬܚ ܦܘܡܝ ܒܡܬ̈ܠܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܦܠܐ̈ܬܐ ܕܡܢ ܩܕܝܡ
h' gyr 'pthkh pwmy bmthl' w'mr pl'th' dmn qdym
I will open my mouth in a parable. I will utter dark sayings of old,

ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܫܡܥܢ ܝܕܥܢ ܐܢܝܢ ܐܦ ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܐܒ̈ܗܝܢ ܐܫܬܥܝܘ ܠܢ
'ylyn dshmen yden 'nyn 'p 'ylyn d'bhyn 'shtheyw ln
which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.

ܕܠܐ ܢܟܣܐ ܡܢ ܒܢܝ̈ܗܘܢ ܐܠܐ ܠܕܪܐ ܐܚܪܝܐ ܢܫܬܥܐ ܬܫ̈ܒܚܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܘܚܝܠܗ ܘܬܕܡܪ̈ܬܗ ܕܥܒܕ
dl' nks' mn bnyhwn 'l' ldr' 'khry' nshthe' thshbkhthh dmry' wkhylh wthdmrthh debd
We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of Yahweh, his strength, and his wondrous deeds that he has done.

ܕܐܩܝܡ ܣܗܕܘܬܗ ܒܝܥܩܘܒ ܘܢܡܘܣܗ ܣܡ ܒܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܐܝܟ ܕܦܩܕ ܠܐ̈ܒܗܝܢ ܕܢܘܕܥܘܢ ܠܒ̈ܢܝܗܘܢ
d'qym shdwthh byeqwb wnmwsh sm b'ysryl 'yk dpqd l'bhyn dnwdewn lbnyhwn
For he established a covenant in Jacob, and appointed a teaching in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children;

ܕܢܕܥܘܢ ܠܕܪܐ ܐܚܪܝܐ ܒܢ̈ܝܐ ܕܡܬܝܠܕܝܢ ܘܩܝܡܝܢ ܕܢܫܬܥܘܢ ܠܒ̈ܢܝܗܘܢ
dndewn ldr' 'khry' bny' dmthyldyn wqymyn dnshthewn lbnyhwn
that the generation to come might know, even the children who should be born; who should arise and tell their children,

ܕܢܗܘܐ ܣܒܪܗܘܢ ܒܐܠܗܐ ܘܠܐ ܢܛܥܘܢ ܥܒ̈ܕܘܗܝ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܘܦܘܩ̈ܕܢܘܗܝ ܢܛܪܘܢ
dnhw' sbrhwn b'lh' wl' nTewn ebdwhy d'lh' wpwqdnwhy nTrwn
that they might set their hope in God, and not forget God’s deeds, but keep his commandments,

ܘܠܐ ܢܗܘܘܢ ܐܝܟ ܐ̈ܒܗܝܗܘܢ ܕܪܐ ܒܝܫܐ ܘܡܡܪܡܪܢܐ ܕܪܐ ܕܠܐ ܐܬܩܢ ܠܒܗ ܘܠܐ ܗܝܡܢ ܒܐܠܗܐ ܕܪܘܚܗ
wl' nhwwn 'yk 'bhyhwn dr' bysh' wmmrmrn' dr' dl' 'thqn lbh wl' hymn b'lh' drwkhh
and might not be as their fathers— a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that didn’t make their hearts loyal, whose spirit was not steadfast with God.

ܒܢ̈ܘܗܝ ܕܐܦܪܝܡ ܕܡܬܚܘ ܝܬܪܐ ܘܫܕܘ ܒܩܫܬܐ ܘܗܦܟܘ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܕܩܪܒܐ
bnwhy d'prym dmthkhw ythr' wshdw bqshth' whpkw bywm' dqrb'
The children of Ephraim, being armed and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.

ܥܠ ܕܠܐ ܢܛܪܘ ܩܝܡܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܘܒܢܡܘܣܗ ܠܐ ܨܒܘ ܠܡܗܠܟܘ
el dl' nTrw qymh d'lh' wbnmwsh l' tsbw lmhlkw
They didn’t keep God’s covenant, and refused to walk in his law.

ܘܛܥܘ ܥܒ̈ܕܘܗܝ ܘܬܕܡܪ̈ܬܗ ܕܚܘܝ ܐܢܘܢ
wTew ebdwhy wthdmrthh dkhwy 'nwn
They forgot his doings, his wondrous deeds that he had shown them.

ܩܕܡ ܐ̈ܒܗܝܗܘܢ ܕܥܒܕ ܬܕܡܪ̈ܬܐ ܒܐܪܥܐ ܕܡܨܪܝܢ ܘܒܚ̈ܩܠܬܐ ܕܨܥܢ
qdm 'bhyhwn debd thdmrth' b're' dmtsryn wbkhqlth' dtsen
He did marvelous things in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.

ܬܪܥ ܝܡܐ ܘܐܥܒܪ ܐܢܘܢ ܘܐܩܝܡ ܡ̈ܝܐ ܐܝܟ ܕܒܙܩ̈ܐ
thre ym' w'ebr 'nwn w'qym my' 'yk dbzq'
He split the sea, and caused them to pass through. He made the waters stand as a heap.

ܕܒܪ ܐܢܘܢ ܒܐܝܡܡܐ ܒܥܢܢܐ ܘܟܠܗ ܠܠܝܐ ܒܙܗܪܐ ܕܢܘܪܐ

In the daytime he also led them with a cloud, and all night with a light of fire.

ܬܪܥ ܛܪܢܐ ܒܡܕܒܪܐ ܘܐܫܩܝ ܐܢܘܢ ܐܝܟ ܕܡܢ ܬܗܘܡܐ ܪܒܐ
thre Trn' bmdbr' w'shqy 'nwn 'yk dmn thhwm' rb'
He split rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink abundantly as out of the depths.

ܐܦܩ ܪ̈ܕܝܐ ܡܢ ܟܐܦܐ ܘܪܕܘ ܡ̈ܝܐ ܐܝܟ ܢܗܪ̈ܘܬܐ
'pq rdy' mn k'p' wrdw my' 'yk nhrwth'
He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.

ܘܐܘܣܦܘ ܬܘܒ ܥܡܐ ܠܡܚܛܐ ܘܠܡܡܪܡܪܘ ܠܡܪܝܡܐ ܒܨܗܝܐ
w'wspw thwb em' lmkhT' wlmmrmrw lmrym' btshy'
Yet they still went on to sin against him, to rebel against the Most High in the desert.

ܘܢܣܝܘ ܠܐܠܗܐ ܒܠܒܗܘܢ ܠܡܫܐܠ ܡܐܟܘܠܬܐ ܠܢܦܫܗܘܢ
wnsyw l'lh' blbhwn lmsh'l m'kwlth' lnpshhwn
They tempted God in their heart by asking food according to their desire.

ܘܪܛܢܘ ܥܠ ܐܠܗܐ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܕܠܡܐ ܡܫܟܚ ܐܠܗܐ ܠܡܣܕܪ ܠܢ ܦܬܘܪ̈ܐ ܒܡܕܒܪܐ
wrTnw el 'lh' w'mrw dlm' mshkkh 'lh' lmsdr ln pthwr' bmdbr'
Yes, they spoke against God. They said, “Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?

ܐܢ ܡܚܐ ܠܛܪܢܐ ܘܪܕܘ ܡ̈ܝܐ ܘܐܪ̈ܓܠܬܐ ܐܪܕܝ ܕܠܡܐ ܐܦ ܠܚܡܐ ܡܫܟܚ ܠܡܬܠ ܠܢ ܐܘ ܡܛܝܒ ܡܐܟܘܠܬܐ ܠܥܡܗ
'n mkh' lTrn' wrdw my' w'rglth' 'rdy dlm' 'p lkhm' mshkkh lmthl ln 'w mTyb m'kwlth' lemh
Behold, he struck the rock, so that waters gushed out, and streams overflowed. Can he give bread also? Will he provide meat for his people?”

ܡܛܠ ܗܢܐ ܫܡܥ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܪܓܙ ܘܢܘܪܐ ܐܚܕܬ ܒܝܥܩܘܒ ܐܦ ܪܘܓܙܐ ܣܠܩ ܒܐܝܣܪܝܠ
mTl hn' shme mry' wrgz wnwr' 'khdth byeqwb 'p rwgz' slq b'ysryl
Therefore Yahweh heard, and was angry. A fire was kindled against Jacob, anger also went up against Israel,

ܥܠ ܕܠܐ ܗܝܡܢܘ ܒܐܠܗܐ ܘܠܐ ܣܒܪܘ ܠܦܘܪܩܢܗ

because they didn’t believe in God, and didn’t trust in his salvation.

ܘܦܩܕ ܠܥ̈ܢܢܐ ܡܢ ܠܥܠ ܘܬܪ̈ܥܐ ܕܫܡܝܐ ܐܬܦܬܚܘ
wpqd lenn' mn lel wthre' dshmy' 'thpthkhw
Yet he commanded the skies above, and opened the doors of heaven.

ܐܚܬ ܠܗܘܢ ܡܢܢܐ ܠܡܐܟܠ ܘܠܚܡܐ ܕܫܡܝܐ ܝܗܒ ܠܗܘܢ
'khth lhwn mnn' lm'kl wlkhm' dshmy' yhb lhwn
He rained down manna on them to eat, and gave them food from the sky.

ܠܚܡܐ ܕܡܠܐ̈ܟܐ ܐܟܠ ܒܪ ܐܢܫܐ ܘܨܝܕܐ ܫܕܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܠܡܣܒܥ
lkhm' dml'k' 'kl br 'nsh' wtsyd' shdr lhwn lmsbe
Man ate the bread of angels. He sent them food to the full.

ܐܫܒ ܪ̈ܘܚܐ ܒܫܡܝܐ ܘܕܒܪ ܒܥܘܫܢܗ ܠܬܝܡܢܐ
'shb rwkh' bshmy' wdbr bewshnh lthymn'
He caused the east wind to blow in the sky. By his power he guided the south wind.

ܐܚܬ ܠܗܘܢ ܒܣܪܐ ܐܝܟ ܥܦܪܐ ܘܐܝܟ ܚܠܐ ܕܝܡ̈ܡܐ ܦܪܚܬܐ ܕܓܦܐ
'khth lhwn bsr' 'yk epr' w'yk khl' dymm' prkhth' dgp'
He also rained meat on them as the dust, winged birds as the sand of the seas.

ܘܢܦܠܘ ܒܡܫܪ̈ܝܬܗܘܢ ܚܕܪ̈ܝ ܡܫ̈ܟܢܝܗܘܢ
wnplw bmshrythhwn khdry mshknyhwn
He let them fall in the middle of their camp, around their habitations.

ܐܟܠܘ ܘܣܒܥܘ ܛܒ ܘܐܪ̈ܓܝܓܬܗܘܢ ܝܗܒ ܠܗܘܢ
'klw wsbew Tb w'rgygthhwn yhb lhwn
So they ate, and were well filled. He gave them their own desire.

ܘܠܐ ܦܪܩܘ ܡܢ ܪ̈ܓܝܓܬܗܘܢ ܘܥܕ ܡܐܟܘܠܬܗܘܢ ܒܦܘܡܗܘܢ
wl' prqw mn rgygthhwn wed m'kwlthhwn bpwmhwn
They didn’t turn from their cravings. Their food was yet in their mouths,

ܪܘܓܙܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܣܠܩ ܒܗܘܢ ܘܩܛܠ ܡܢ ܥܬܝܪ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܘܠܓܒ̈ܝܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܐܒܪܟ
rwgzh d'lh' slq bhwn wqTl mn ethyryhwn wlgby' d'ysryl 'brk
when the anger of God went up against them, killed some of their strongest, and struck down the young men of Israel.

ܒܗܠܝܢ ܟܠܗܝܢ ܚܛܘ ܘܬܘܒ ܠܐ ܗܝܡܢܘ ܒܬܕܡܪ̈ܬܗ
bhlyn klhyn khTw wthwb l' hymnw bthdmrthh
For all this they still sinned, and didn’t believe in his wondrous works.

ܓܡܪܘ ܒܣܪܝܩܘܬܐ ܝܘܡ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܘܫ̈ܢܝܗܘܢ ܡܣܪܗܒܐܝܬ
gmrw bsryqwth' ywmyhwn wshnyhwn msrhb'yth
Therefore he consumed their days in vanity, and their years in terror.

ܡܐ ܕܩܛܠ ܗܘܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܒܥܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܗ ܗܦܟܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܘܡܩܕܡܝܢ ܠܘܬܗ
m' dqTl hw' lhwn beyn hww lh hpkyn hww wmqdmyn lwthh
When he killed them, then they inquired after him. They returned and sought God earnestly.

ܥܗܕܘ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܗܘ ܥܕܘܪܗܘܢ ܘܐܠܗܐ ܡܪܝܡܐ ܦܪܘܩܗܘܢ
ehdw d'lh' hw edwrhwn w'lh' mrym' prwqhwn
They remembered that God was their rock, the Most High God, their redeemer.
36
ܪܚܡܘܗܝ ܒܦܘܡܗܘܢ ܘܒܠܫܢܗܘܢ ܟܕܒܘ ܒܗ
rkhmwhy bpwmhwn wblshnhwn kdbw bh
But they flattered him with their mouth, and lied to him with their tongue.
37
ܠܒܗܘܢ ܠܐ ܐܬܩܢܘ ܥܡܗ ܘܠܐ ܗܝܡܢܘ ܒܩܝܡܗ
lbhwn l' 'thqnw emh wl' hymnw bqymh
For their heart was not right with him, neither were they faithful in his covenant.

ܘܗܘ ܡܪܚܡܢ ܘܫܒܩ ܚ̈ܛܗܐ ܘܠܐ ܡܚܒܠ ܡܣܓܐ ܠܡܗܦܟܘ ܪܘܓܙܗ ܘܠܐ ܡܥܝܪ ܟܠܗ̇ ܚܡܬܗ
whw mrkhmn wshbq khTh' wl' mkhbl msg' lmhpkw rwgzh wl' meyr klh khmthh
But he, being merciful, forgave iniquity, and didn’t destroy them. Yes, many times he turned his anger away, and didn’t stir up all his wrath.

ܐܬܕܟܪ ܕܒܣܪܐ ܐܢܘܢ ܪܘܚܐ ܕܐܙܠܐ ܘܠܐ ܗܦܟܐ
'thdkr dbsr' 'nwn rwkh' d'zl' wl' hpk'
He remembered that they were but flesh, a wind that passes away, and doesn’t come again.

ܗܢܘܢ ܡܪܡܪܘܗܝ ܒܡܕܒܪܐ ܘܐܪܓܙܘܗܝ ܒܐܫܝܡܘܢ
hnwn mrmrwhy bmdbr' w'rgzwhy b'shymwn
How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness, and grieved him in the desert!

ܘܗܦܟܘ ܘܢܣܝܘ ܠܐܠܗܐ ܘܠܩܕܝܫܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܓܪܓܘ
whpkw wnsyw l'lh' wlqdysh' d'ysryl grgw
They turned again and tempted God, and provoked the Holy One of Israel.

ܘܠܐ ܐܬܕܟܪܘ ܐܝܕܗ ܝܘܡܐ ܕܦܪܩ ܐܢܘܢ ܡܢ ܐܠܘܨܐ
wl' 'thdkrw 'ydh ywm' dprq 'nwn mn 'lwts'
They didn’t remember his hand, nor the day when he redeemed them from the adversary;

ܕܥܒܕ ܒܡܨܪܝܢ ܐܬ̈ܘܬܗ ܘܬܕܡܪ̈ܬܗ ܒܚ̈ܩܠܬܐ ܕܨܥܢ

how he set his signs in Egypt, his wonders in the field of Zoan,

ܕܗܦܟ ܢܗܪ̈ܘܬܗܘܢ ܠܕܡܐ ܘܪ̈ܕܝܗܘܢ ܕܠܐ ܢܫܬܘܢ ܡ̈ܝܐ
dhpk nhrwthhwn ldm' wrdyhwn dl' nshthwn my'
he turned their rivers into blood, and their streams, so that they could not drink.

ܫܕܪ ܥܠܝܗܘܢ ܚܠܘܛܐ ܘܐܟܠ ܐܢܘܢ ܘܐܘܪ̈ܕܥܐ ܘܚܒܠ ܐܢܘܢ
shdr elyhwn khlwT' w'kl 'nwn w'wrde' wkhbl 'nwn
He sent among them swarms of flies, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.

ܝܗܒ ܠܩܡܨܐ ܥ̈ܠܠܬܗܘܢ ܘܠܐܘܬܗܘܢ ܠܙܚܠܐ

He also gave their increase to the caterpillar, and their labor to the locust.

ܬܒܪ ܒܒܪܕܐ ܓܘܦܢ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܘܬܐ̈ܢܝܗܘܢ ܒܓܠܝܕܐ
thbr bbrd' gwpnyhwn wth'nyhwn bglyd'
He destroyed their vines with hail, their sycamore fig trees with frost.

ܐܫܠܡ ܠܒܪܕܐ ܒܥܝܪܗܘܢ ܘܩܢܝܢܗܘܢ ܠܝܩܕܢܐ
'shlm lbrd' beyrhwn wqnynhwn lyqdn'
He also gave over their livestock to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.

ܫܕܪ ܥܠܝܗܘܢ ܚܡܬܐ ܕܪܘܓܙܗ ܚܡܬܐ ܘܪܘܓܙܐ ܘܐܘܠܨܢܐ ܫܕܪ ܒܝܕ ܡܠܐܟܐ ܒܝܫܐ
shdr elyhwn khmth' drwgzh khmth' wrwgz' w'wltsn' shdr byd ml'k' bysh'
He threw on them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, indignation, and trouble, and a band of angels of evil.

ܘܬܪܥ ܫܒܝ̈ܠܐ ܒܝܫ̈ܐ ܘܠܐ ܚܣܟ ܡܢ ܡܘܬܐ ܢܦܫܬ̈ܗܘܢ ܘܚܝ̈ܘܬܗܘܢ ܠܡܘܬܐ ܐܫܠܡ
wthre shbyl' bysh' wl' khsk mn mwth' npshthhwn wkhywthhwn lmwth' 'shlm
He made a path for his anger. He didn’t spare their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence,

ܩܛܠ ܟܠ ܒܘܟܪ̈ܐ ܕܡܨܪܝܢ ܪܝܫ ܟܠܗ ܝܠܕܗܘܢ ܒܡܫܟܢܐ ܕܚܡ
qTl kl bwkr' dmtsryn rysh klh yldhwn bmshkn' dkhm
and struck all the firstborn in Egypt, the chief of their strength in the tents of Ham.

ܐܫܩܠ ܠܥܡܗ ܐܝܟ ܥܢܐ ܘܕܒܪ ܐܢܘܢ ܐܝܟ ܓܙܪܐ ܒܡܕܒܪܐ
'shql lemh 'yk en' wdbr 'nwn 'yk gzr' bmdbr'
But he led out his own people like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.

ܐܫܪܝ ܐܢܘܢ ܒܣܒܪܐ ܘܠܐ ܕܚܠܘ ܘܠܒ̈ܥܠܕܒܒܝܗܘܢ ܟܣܝ ܝܡܐ
'shry 'nwn bsbr' wl' dkhlw wlbeldbbyhwn ksy ym'
He led them safely, so that they weren’t afraid, but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.

ܐܝܬܝ ܐܢܘܢ ܠܬܚܘܡܐ ܕܩܘܕܫܗ ܠܗܢܐ ܛܘܪܐ ܕܩܢܬ ܝܡܝܢܗ
'ythy 'nwn lthkhwm' dqwdshh lhn' Twr' dqnth ymynh
He brought them to the border of his sanctuary, to this mountain, which his right hand had taken.

ܐܘܒܕ ܡܢ ܩܕܡܝܗܘܢ ܥܡ̈ܡܐ ܘܐܪܡܝ ܐܢܘܢ ܒܚ̈ܒܠܐ ܕܝܪܬܘܬܗ ܘܫܪܘ ܒܡܫ̈ܟܢܝܗܘܢ ܫܒ̈ܛܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ
'wbd mn qdmyhwn emm' w'rmy 'nwn bkhbl' dyrthwthh wshrw bmshknyhwn shbT' d'ysryl
He also drove out the nations before them, allotted them for an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.

ܘܢܣܝܘ ܘܡܪܡܪܘ ܠܐܠܗܐ ܡܪܝܡܐ ܘܣܗ̈ܕܘܬܗ ܠܐ ܢܛܪܘ
wnsyw wmrmrw l'lh' mrym' wshdwthh l' nTrw
Yet they tempted and rebelled against the Most High God, and didn’t keep his testimonies,

ܘܗܦܟܘ ܘܕܓܠܘ ܐܝܟ ܐ̈ܒܗܝܗܘܢ ܘܐܬܗܦܟܘ ܐܝܟ ܩܫܬܐ ܢܟܝܠܬܐ
whpkw wdglw 'yk 'bhyhwn w'thhpkw 'yk qshth' nkylth'
but turned back, and dealt treacherously like their fathers. They were twisted like a deceitful bow.

ܘܐܪܓܙܘܗܝ ܒ̈ܥܠܘܬܗܘܢ ܘܒܦܬܟܪ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܐܛܢܘܗܝ
w'rgzwhy belwthhwn wbpthkryhwn 'Tnwhy
For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their engraved images.

ܘܫܡܥ ܐܠܗܐ ܘܐܬܚܡܬ ܘܪܓܙ ܛܒ ܥܠ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ
wshme 'lh' w'thkhmth wrgz Tb el 'ysryl
When God heard this, he was angry, and greatly abhorred Israel,

ܘܛܥܐ ܠܡܫܟܢܐ ܕܫܝܠܘ ܡܫܟܢܐ ܕܫܪܐ ܒܝܬ ܒܢܝܢܫ̈ܐ
wTe' lmshkn' dshylw mshkn' dshr' byth bnynsh'
so that he abandoned the tent of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men,

ܝܗܒ ܠܫܒܝܬܐ ܥܡܗ ܘܬܫܒܘܚܬܗ ܒܐܝܕܐ ܕܐܠܘܨܐ
yhb lshbyth' emh wthshbwkhthh b'yd' d'lwts'
and delivered his strength into captivity, his glory into the adversary’s hand.

ܠܓܕܘ̈ܕܝܗܘܢ ܐܟܠܬ ܢܘܪܐ ܘܒܬ̈ܘܠܬܗܘܢ ܐܬܛܪܦ

ܘܟܗ̈ܢܝܗܘܢ ܢܦܠܘ ܒܚܪܒܐ ܘܐܪ̈ܡܠܬܗܘܢ ܠܐ ܐܬܒ̈ܟܝ

Their priests fell by the sword, and their widows couldn’t weep.

ܐܬܬܥܝܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܝܟ ܕܡܟܐ ܘܐܝܟ ܓܒܪܐ ܕܢܦܨܗ ܚܡܪܗ

Then the Lord awakened as one out of sleep, like a mighty man who shouts by reason of wine.

ܡܚܐ ܠܒ̈ܥܠܕܒܒܘܗܝ ܠܒܣܬܪܗ ܘܚܣܕܐ ܕܥܠܡܐ ܝܗܒ ܠܗܘܢ
mkh' lbeldbbwhy lbsthrh wkhsd' delm' yhb lhwn
He struck his adversaries backward. He put them to a perpetual reproach.

ܐܣܠܝ ܠܡܫܟܢܐ ܕܝܘܣܦ ܘܒܫܒܛܐ ܕܐܦܪܝܡ ܠܐ ܐܬܪܥܝ

Moreover he rejected the tent of Joseph, and didn’t choose the tribe of Ephraim,

ܓܒܐ ܠܫܪܒܬܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ. ܠܛܘܪܐ ܕܨܗܝܘܢ ܕܪܚܡ

But chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion which he loved.

ܒܢܐ ܥܠ ܪܘܡܐ ܡܩܕܫܗ ܘܒܐܪܥܐ ܐܬܩܢܗ̇ ܠܥܠܡ
bn' el rwm' mqdshh wb're' 'thqnh lelm
He built his sanctuary like the heights, like the earth which he has established forever.

ܓܒܐ ܠܕܘܝܕ ܥܒܕܗ ܘܕܒܪܗ ܡܢ ܓܙܪܐ ܕܥܢܐ
gb' ldwyd ebdh wdbrh mn gzr' den'
He also chose David his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds;

ܘܡܢ ܒܣܬܪ ܥܢܐ ܕܡܝܢܩܐ ܠܡܪܥܐ ܠܝܥܩܘܒ ܥܡܗ ܘܠܐܝܣܪܐܝܠ ܝܪܬܘܬܗ
wmn bsthr en' dmynq' lmre' lyeqwb emh wl'ysr'yl yrthwthh
from following the ewes that have their young, he brought him to be the shepherd of Jacob, his people, and Israel, his inheritance.

ܘܪܥܐ ܐܢܘܢ ܒܬܡܝܡܘܬܐ ܕܠܒܗ ܘܒܣܘܟܠܐ ܕܐ̈ܝܕܘܗܝ ܕܒܪ ܐܢܘܢ
wre' 'nwn bthmymwth' dlbh wbswkl' d'ydwhy dbr 'nwn
So he was their shepherd according to the integrity of his heart, and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.
