שכלא דרוח קדשא על ידוי דאסף אצית עמי אוריתי אצלון אודניכון למימרי פומי:
pwmy lmymry awdnykwn atslwn awrythy emy atsyth dasp ydwy el qdsha drwkh shkla
Hear my teaching, my people. Turn your ears to the words of my mouth.

אפתח במתל פומי אביע חדון דמן לקדמין:
lqdmyn dmn khdwn abye pwmy bmthl apthkh
I will open my mouth in a parable. I will utter dark sayings of old,

די שמענן וידענן להון ואבהתן תניאו לנא:
lna thnyaw wabhthn lhwn wydenn shmenn dy
which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.
4
לא נכסי מבניהון לדר בתרי משתעין תשבחתא דיי ועשניה ופרישותיה די עבד:
ebd dy wpryshwthyh weshnyh dyy thshbkhtha mshtheyn bthry ldr mbnyhwn nksy la
We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of Yahweh, his strength, and his wondrous deeds that he has done.

ואקים סהדותא בדבית יעקב ואוריתא גזר דבית ישראל די פקד לאבהתן להודעותהון לבניהון:
lbnyhwn lhwdewthhwn labhthn pqd dy yshral dbyth gzr wawrytha yeqb bdbyth shdwtha waqym
For he established a covenant in Jacob, and appointed a teaching in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children;

מן בגלל די ידעון דר בתרי בנין דמתילדין יקומון ויתנון לבניהון:
lbnyhwn wythnwn yqwmwn dmthyldyn bnyn bthry dr ydewn dy bgll mn
that the generation to come might know, even the children who should be born; who should arise and tell their children,

וישוון באלהא סבריהון ולא יתנשון עובדי אלהא ופקודוי ינטרון:
ynTrwn wpqwdwy alha ewbdy ythnshwn wla sbryhwn balha wyshwwn
that they might set their hope in God, and not forget God’s deeds, but keep his commandments,

ולא יהוון היך אבהתהון דר מסרבן ומרגיז דר דלא מתקן לביה למריה ולא הות מהימנא באלהא רוחיה:
rwkhyh balha mhymna hwth wla lmryh lbyh mthqn dla dr wmrgyz msrbn dr abhthhwn hyk yhwwn wla
and might not be as their fathers— a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that didn’t make their hearts loyal, whose spirit was not steadfast with God.

כד הוו יתבין במצרים אתרברבו בני אפרים מנו קצא וטעו ונפקו תלתין שנין קדם קצא בזיני קרבא וגברא נטלי קשתא אפיכו קדל ואתקטלו ביום סדרי קרבא:
qrba sdry bywm wathqTlw qdl apykw qshtha nTly wgbra qrba bzyny qtsa qdm shnyn thlthyn wnpqw wTew qtsa mnw aprym bny athrbrbw bmtsrym ythbyn hww kd
The children of Ephraim, being armed and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.

מטול דלא נטרו קים אלהא ובאוריתיה סרבו להלכא:
lhlka srbw wbawrythyh alha qym nTrw dla mTwl
They didn’t keep God’s covenant, and refused to walk in his law.
11
ואתנשיאו עובדוי עמא בית ישראל ופרישותיה די אחמי יתהון:
ythhwn akhmy dy wpryshwthyh yshral byth ema ewbdwy wathnshyaw
They forgot his doings, his wondrous deeds that he had shown them.

קבל אברהם יצחק ויעקב ושבטיא דאבהתהון עבד פרישן בארעא דמצרים חקל טאניס:
Tanys khql dmtsrym barea pryshn ebd dabhthhwn wshbTya wyeqb ytskhq abrhm qbl
He did marvelous things in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.

בזע ימא בחוטרא דמשה רבהון ואעברנון ואוקים מיא צרירין היך זיקא:
zyqa hyk tsryryn mya wawqym waebrnwn rbhwn dmshh bkhwTra yma bze
He split the sea, and caused them to pass through. He made the waters stand as a heap.

ודברינון בעננא ביממא וכל ליליא בנהור אשא:
asha bnhwr lylya wkl bymma benna wdbrynwn
In the daytime he also led them with a cloud, and all night with a light of fire.
15
בזע טורין בחוטריה דמשה רבהון במדברא ואשקי כד בתהומיא רברבן:
rbrbn bthhwmya kd washqy bmdbra rbhwn dmshh bkhwTryh Twryn bze
He split rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink abundantly as out of the depths.

ואפיק נוזלא דמיא מן כיפא ואוחית היך נהרין דנגדין מיא:
mya dngdyn nhryn hyk wawkhyth kypa mn dmya nwzla wapyq
He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.
17
ואוסיפו תוב למחטי קדמוי למרגז קדם עלאה במדברא צחי:
tskhy bmdbra elah qdm lmrgz qdmwy lmkhTy thwb wawsypw
Yet they still went on to sin against him, to rebel against the Most High in the desert.

ונסיאו אלהא בלבהון למשאל אוכלא לנפשיהון:
lnpshyhwn awkla lmshal blbhwn alha wnsyaw
They tempted God in their heart by asking food according to their desire.
19
ואתרעמו קדם יי אמרו האית יוכלא קדם אלהא לסדרא פתורא במדברא:
bmdbra pthwra lsdra alha qdm ywkla hayth amrw yy qdm wathremw
Yes, they spoke against God. They said, “Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?
20
הא כבר מחא בטינר ודיבו מיא ונחליא הלחוד לחמא יכיל למתן אם יתקן מזונא לעמיה:
lemyh mzwna ythqn am lmthn ykyl lkhma hlkhwd wnkhlya mya wdybw bTynr mkha kbr ha
Behold, he struck the rock, so that waters gushed out, and streams overflowed. Can he give bread also? Will he provide meat for his people?”

בכן שמיע קדם אלהא ורגיז ואשתא אתסקת בדבית יעקב ולחוד תקוף רוגזא סליק בישראל:
byshral slyq rwgza thqwp wlkhwd yeqb bdbyth athsqth washtha wrgyz alha qdm shmye bkn
Therefore Yahweh heard, and was angry. A fire was kindled against Jacob, anger also went up against Israel,

ארום לא הימינו באלהא ולא אתרחיצו בפורקניה:
bpwrqnyh athrkhytsw wla balha hymynw la arwm
because they didn’t believe in God, and didn’t trust in his salvation.
23
ופקיד שחקי מלעיל ודשי שמיא פתח:
pthkh shmya wdshy mleyl shkhqy wpqyd
Yet he commanded the skies above, and opened the doors of heaven.
24
ואחית עליהון מנא למיכל ועבור שמיא יהב להון:
lhwn yhb shmya webwr lmykl mna elyhwn wakhyth
He rained down manna on them to eat, and gave them food from the sky.
25
מזון דנחת ממדור מלאכיא אכלו בני נשא זודין שלח להון לשבעה:
lshbeh lhwn shlkh zwdyn nsha bny aklw mlakya mmdwr dnkhth mzwn
Man ate the bread of angels. He sent them food to the full.

אטיל רוח קדומא בשמיא ודבר בעושניה רוח דרומא:
drwma rwkh bewshnyh wdbr bshmya qdwma rwkh aTyl
He caused the east wind to blow in the sky. By his power he guided the south wind.
27
ואחית עליהון היך כעפרא בסרא והיך חלא דימא עופא דפרח:
dprkh ewpa dyma khla whyk bsra kepra hyk elyhwn wakhyth
He also rained meat on them as the dust, winged birds as the sand of the seas.
28
ואפיל במצע משריתיה חזור חזור למשכנוי:
lmshknwy khzwr khzwr mshrythyh bmtse wapyl
He let them fall in the middle of their camp, around their habitations.
29
ואכלו ושבעו לחדא ורגוגיהון איתי להון:
lhwn aythy wrgwgyhwn lkhda wshbew waklw
So they ate, and were well filled. He gave them their own desire.
30
זרו מן רגוגיהון עד כדין מיכלהון בפומהון:
bpwmhwn myklhwn kdyn ed rgwgyhwn mn zrw
They didn’t turn from their cravings. Their food was yet in their mouths,
31
ורוגזא דאלהא סליקת בהון וקטיל בגבריהון ועולימי ישראל אחמיט:
akhmyT yshral wewlymy bgbryhwn wqTyl bhwn slyqth dalha wrwgza
when the anger of God went up against them, killed some of their strongest, and struck down the young men of Israel.

בכל דא חבו תוב ולא הימינו בפרישותוי:
bpryshwthwy hymynw wla thwb khbw da bkl
For all this they still sinned, and didn’t believe in his wondrous works.
33
ושיצי בלמא יומיהון ושנתיהון בבהולתא:
bbhwltha wshnthyhwn ywmyhwn blma wshytsy
Therefore he consumed their days in vanity, and their years in terror.
34
בזמן דקטלנון תיבין ותבעו יתיה ויתובון ויצלון קדם אלהא:
alha qdm wytslwn wythwbwn ythyh wthbew thybyn dqTlnwn bzmn
When he killed them, then they inquired after him. They returned and sought God earnestly.
35
ואדכרו ארום אלהא תקיפהון ואלהא עלאה פרקינון:
prqynwn elah walha thqyphwn alha arwm wadkrw
They remembered that God was their rock, the Most High God, their redeemer.
36
ושרגינון ליה בפומהון ובלישנהון מכדבין ליה:
lyh mkdbyn wblyshnhwn bpwmhwn lyh wshrgynwn
But they flattered him with their mouth, and lied to him with their tongue.
37
מטול דלבהון לא מהימן עמיה ולא הימינו בקימיה:
bqymyh hymynw wla emyh mhymn la dlbhwn mTwl
For their heart was not right with him, neither were they faithful in his covenant.
38
והוא רחמנא מכפר עויתהון ולא מחבל יתהון ומסגי למתב מן רוגזיה ולא יוחי בהון כל חמתיה:
khmthyh kl bhwn ywkhy wla rwgzyh mn lmthb wmsgy ythhwn mkhbl wla ewythhwn mkpr rkhmna whwa
But he, being merciful, forgave iniquity, and didn’t destroy them. Yes, many times he turned his anger away, and didn’t stir up all his wrath.
39
ודכיר ארום בני בסרא הנון רוחא דאזיל ולא תאב:
thab wla dazyl rwkha hnwn bsra bny arwm wdkyr
He remembered that they were but flesh, a wind that passes away, and doesn’t come again.
40
כמה יסרבון ליה במדברא ירגזון קדמוי באתר צדיא:
tsdya bathr qdmwy yrgzwn bmdbra lyh ysrbwn kmh
How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness, and grieved him in the desert!
41
ותבו ונסיאו אלהא וקדישא דישראל אתוו תוהא:
thwha athww dyshral wqdysha alha wnsyaw wthbw
They turned again and tempted God, and provoked the Holy One of Israel.
42
לא אדכרו ית נסא דידיה ויומא דפרקנון מן מעיקא:
meyqa mn dprqnwn wywma dydyh nsa yth adkrw la
They didn’t remember his hand, nor the day when he redeemed them from the adversary;

דשוי במצרים אתוהי ותמהוי בחקל טאניס:
Tanys bkhql wthmhwy athwhy bmtsrym dshwy
how he set his signs in Egypt, his wonders in the field of Zoan,
44
והפך לדמא אריתיהון ונוזליון לא שתן מנהון:
mnhwn shthn la wnwzlywn arythyhwn ldma whpk
he turned their rivers into blood, and their streams, so that they could not drink.
45
יגרי בהון ערבובי חיות ברא וגמר יתהון ועורדעניא ויחבל יתהון:
ythhwn wykhbl wewrdenya ythhwn wgmr bra khywth erbwby bhwn ygry
He sent among them swarms of flies, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.
46
ויהב ומסר לזחלא עבורהון ולעותהון לגובאי:
lgwbay wlewthhwn ebwrhwn lzkhla wmsr wyhb
He also gave their increase to the caterpillar, and their labor to the locust.
47
וקלף בברדא גופניהון ושקמתהון בכרזובא:
bkrzwba wshqmthhwn gwpnyhwn bbrda wqlp
He destroyed their vines with hail, their sycamore fig trees with frost.
48
ומסר לברדא בעירהון וגיתהון לרשפין די נור:
nwr dy lrshpyn wgythhwn beyrhwn lbrda wmsr
He also gave over their livestock to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.
49
יגרי בהון מאתן וחמשין מחן בתקוף רוגזיה ברתחא ובתריכותא ובעקא דמשתלחן בעדן בידיהון דאזגדין בישין:
byshyn dazgdyn bydyhwn bedn dmshthlkhn wbeqa wbthrykwtha brthkha rwgzyh bthqwp mkhn wkhmshyn mathn bhwn ygry
He threw on them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, indignation, and trouble, and a band of angels of evil.
50
יטיל בכביש תוקפיה לא מנע ממותא נפשיהון ובעיריהון לממותא מסר:
msr lmmwtha wbeyryhwn npshyhwn mmwtha mne la thwqpyh bkbysh yTyl
He made a path for his anger. He didn’t spare their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence,

וקטל כל בוכרא במצרים שרו צעריהון במשכנהון דחם:
dkhm bmshknhwn tseryhwn shrw bmtsrym bwkra kl wqTl
and struck all the firstborn in Egypt, the chief of their strength in the tents of Ham.
52
ואטיל היך ענא עמי ודברנון היך ענא עדרא במדברא:
bmdbra edra ena hyk wdbrnwn emy ena hyk waTyl
But he led out his own people like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.
53
ואשרנון לרוחצן ולא דחלין וית בעלי דבביהון חפא ימא:
yma khpa dbbyhwn bely wyth dkhlyn wla lrwkhtsn washrnwn
He led them safely, so that they weren’t afraid, but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.

ואעלנו לתחום אתר בית מקדשיה טור דין קנת ימיניה:
ymynyh qnth dyn Twr mqdshyh byth athr lthkhwm waelnw
He brought them to the border of his sanctuary, to this mountain, which his right hand had taken.
55
ותרך מן קדמיהון עמיא ואשרי יתהון בעדב אחסנתיה ואשרי במשכנהון שבטיא דישראל:
dyshral shbTya bmshknhwn washry akhsnthyh bedb ythhwn washry emya qdmyhwn mn wthrk
He also drove out the nations before them, allotted them for an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.

ואנסיאו וארגיזו קדם אלהא עלאה וסהדותיה לא נטרו:
nTrw la wshdwthyh elah alha qdm wargyzw wansyaw
Yet they tempted and rebelled against the Most High God, and didn’t keep his testimonies,
57
וזורו וארשיעו היך אבהתהון אתהפיכו היך קשתא דרמיא גררין:
grryn drmya qshtha hyk athhpykw abhthhwn hyk warshyew wzwrw
but turned back, and dealt treacherously like their fathers. They were twisted like a deceitful bow.
58
וארגיזו קדמוי בנסכיהון ובפסליהון ובצלמניהון אקנון יתיה:
ythyh aqnwn wbtslmnyhwn wbpslyhwn bnskyhwn qdmwy wargyzw
For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their engraved images.

שמיע קדם אלהא ורגז ורחקת נפשיה לחדא בישראל:
byshral lkhda npshyh wrkhqth wrgz alha qdm shmye
When God heard this, he was angry, and greatly abhorred Israel,
60
ושבק משכנא דשילו משכן די שרת תמן שכנתיה בגו נשא:
nsha bgw shknthyh thmn shrth dy mshkn dshylw mshkna wshbq
so that he abandoned the tent of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men,
61
ומסר לקטלין בחרבא עמיה ובאחסנתיה ארגיז:
argyz wbakhsnthyh emyh bkhrba lqTlyn wmsr
and delivered his strength into captivity, his glory into the adversary’s hand.
62
ומסר לשביתא אוריתיה ושבהוריה לקטלין בחרבא עמיה ובאחסנתיה ארגין:
argyn wbakhsnthyh emyh bkhrba lqTlyn wshbhwryh awrythyh lshbytha wmsr
He also gave his people over to the sword, and was angry with his inheritance.
63
עולימוהי אכלת אשתא ובתולתיה לא אשתבחן:
ashthbkhn la wbthwlthyh ashtha aklth ewlymwhy
Fire devoured their young men. Their virgins had no wedding song.
64
כהנוי בקטלא דחרבא יפלון וארמלתוי לא ספיקן דתבכין :
dthbkyn spyqn la warmlthwy yplwn dkhrba bqTla khnwy
Their priests fell by the sword, and their widows couldn’t weep.
65
ואתער היך דמיך יי היך גברא דמתפקח מן חמרא:
khmra mn dmthpqkh gbra hyk yy dmyk hyk wather
Then the Lord awakened as one out of sleep, like a mighty man who shouts by reason of wine.
66
ומחא מעיקוי בטחוריא באחוריהון קלנא דעלמא יהב להון:
lhwn yhb delma qlna bakhwryhwn bTkhwrya meyqwy wmkha
He struck his adversaries backward. He put them to a perpetual reproach.
67
ורחיק במשכנא דפרס על תחומיה דיוסף ובשבט אפרים לא רעא:
rea la aprym wbshbT dywsp thkhwmyh el dprs bmshkna wrkhyq
Moreover he rejected the tent of Joseph, and didn’t choose the tribe of Ephraim,
68
ואתרעי ית שבט יהודה ית טורא דציון די רחים:
rkhym dy dtsywn Twra yth yhwdh shbT yth wathrey
But chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion which he loved.
69
ובנא היך קרנא דרימנא מקדשיה מעתד היך ארעא דיסדה לעלמי עלמין:
elmyn lelmy dysdh area hyk methd mqdshyh drymna qrna hyk wbna
He built his sanctuary like the heights, like the earth which he has established forever.
70
ואתרעי בדוד עבדיה ודבריה מן עדרי דענא:
dena edry mn wdbryh ebdyh bdwd wathrey
He also chose David his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds;
71
ומן בתר מינקן איתיה למשלט ביעקב עמיה ובישראל אחסנתיה:
akhsnthyh wbyshral emyh byeqb lmshlT aythyh mynqn bthr wmn
from following the ewes that have their young, he brought him to be the shepherd of Jacob, his people, and Israel, his inheritance.
