שירא דאתאמר על מסוקין דתהומא על יד שלמה אין מימרא דיי לא יבני קרתא מגן לען ארדיכלוי ביה אין מימרא דיי לא נטר קרתא דירושלם מגן אתער נטיר:
nTyr ather mgn dyrwshlm qrtha nTr la dyy mymra ayn byh ardyklwy len mgn qrtha ybny la dyy mymra ayn shlmh yd el dthhwma mswqyn el dathamr shyra
Unless Yahweh builds the house, they who build it labor in vain. Unless Yahweh watches over the city, the watchman guards it in vain.

על מגן תטלחון לכון דתקדמון בצפרא למעבד לכון חטוף די מאחרן ותתבון למעבד זנו דאכלין מזוני דמסכנין דלעו בהון על יאות וכיון יתן יי לרחמיה דמכא:
dmka lrkhmyh yy ythn wkywn yawth el bhwn dlew dmsknyn mzwny daklyn znw lmebd wththbwn makhrn dy khTwp lkwn lmebd btspra dthqdmwn lkwn thTlkhwn mgn el
It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil, for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

הא אחסנת יי בנין כשרין אגר עובדין טבין ולדי מעא:
mea wldy Tbyn ewbdyn agr kshryn bnyn yy akhsnth ha
Behold, children are a heritage of Yahweh. The fruit of the womb is his reward.

כגירין באידא דגיברא כן בנין דעולימא:
dewlyma bnyn kn dgybra bayda kgyryn
As arrows in the hand of a mighty man, so are the children of youth.

טב ליה לגבר דימלי בית מדרשיה מנהון לא יבהתון ארום ינצון עם בעלי דבביהון בתרע בית דינא:
dyna byth bthre dbbyhwn bely em yntswn arwm ybhthwn la mnhwn mdrshyh byth dymly lgbr lyh Tb
Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them. They won’t be disappointed when they speak with their enemies in the gate.
