ברי לחוכמתי צית לביוני צלי אדנך:
adnk tsly lbywny tsyth lkhwkmthy bry
My son, pay attention to my wisdom. Turn your ear to my understanding,

דתזדהר בתרעיתא ודעתא שפותך ננטרן:
nnTrn shpwthk wdetha bthreytha dthzdhr
that you may maintain discretion, that your lips may preserve knowledge.

מטול דכבריתא מנטפן שפותא דנוכריתא ושעיע מן משחא חכה:
khkh mshkha mn wsheye dnwkrytha shpwtha mnTpn dkbrytha mTwl
For the lips of an adulteress drip honey. Her mouth is smoother than oil,

ואחריתה מרירא היך גירא חריפא מן סיפא דתרין פומין:
pwmyn dthryn sypa mn khrypa gyra hyk mryra wakhrythh
but in the end she is as bitter as wormwood, and as sharp as a two-edged sword.

רגלה נחתן למותא שיול הלכתהא מסמכן:
msmkn hlkthha shywl lmwtha nkhthn rglh
Her feet go down to death. Her steps lead straight to Sheol.

בארחא דחיי לא דרכא מטלטלין שבילהא ולא ידעה:
ydeh wla shbylha mTlTlyn drka la dkhyy barkha
She gives no thought to the way of life. Her ways are crooked, and she doesn’t know it.

והשתא בניא שמעון לי ולא תסטון מן מימרי דפומי:
dpwmy mymry mn thsTwn wla ly shmewn bnya whshtha
Now therefore, my sons, listen to me. Don’t depart from the words of my mouth.

ארחק מנה ארחך ולא תקרב לתרעא דביתה:
dbythh lthrea thqrb wla arkhk mnh arkhq
Remove your way far from her. Don’t come near the door of her house,

דלא תתן לאחרני חילך ושניך לנוכראין:
lnwkrayn wshnyk khylk lakhrny ththn dla
lest you give your honor to others, and your years to the cruel one;
10
דלא נשבעון נוכראי חילך ולעותך תעל לביתא דאחריני:
dakhryny lbytha thel wlewthk khylk nwkray nshbewn dla
lest strangers feast on your wealth, and your labors enrich another man’s house.

ותנהום בסופך עד מה דיגמר בשרך וגושמך:
wgwshmk bshrk dygmr mh ed bswpk wthnhwm
You will groan at your latter end, when your flesh and your body are consumed,

ותימר היכנא סנית מרדותא ומכסנותא אשלי לבי:
lby ashly wmksnwtha mrdwtha snyth hykna wthymr
and say, “How I have hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof.

ולא שמעית קלא דמרותי ולמלפני לא צלית אדני:
adny tslyth la wlmlpny dmrwthy qla shmeyth wla
I haven’t obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor turned my ear to those who instructed me!

על כליל הוית לי בכל בישין בגו כנשתא ועדתא:
wedtha knshtha bgw byshyn bkl ly hwyth klyl el
I have come to the brink of utter ruin, among the gathered assembly.”

אשתי מיא מן גובך ורדיא מן בירך:
byrk mn wrdya gwbk mn mya ashthy
Drink water out of your own cistern, running water out of your own well.

נשפעון מעינך לברא ובפתיי טיפי דמיא:
dmya Typy wbpthyy lbra meynk nshpewn
Should your springs overflow in the streets, streams of water in the public squares?
17
יהוון לך לחודך ונוכראי לא נשתתפון עמך:
emk nshththpwn la wnwkray lkhwdk lk yhwwn
Let them be for yourself alone, not for strangers with you.
18
יהוי מבועך בריך וחדי מן אתת טליותך:
Tlywthk athth mn wkhdy bryk mbwek yhwy
Let your spring be blessed. Rejoice in the wife of your youth.

אילתא דרחמותא ודיצתא דחסדא תדונא אלף בכל זמן וברחמותה תגרס תדירא:
thdyra thgrs wbrkhmwthh zmn bkl alp thdwna dkhsda wdytstha drkhmwtha ayltha
A loving doe and a graceful deer— let her breasts satisfy you at all times. Be captivated always with her love.

ולמה תשרגג ברי בנוכריתא אוף לא תחבק עובא דאחריתא:
dakhrytha ewba thkhbq la awp bnwkrytha bry thshrgg wlmh
For why should you, my son, be captivated with an adulteress? Why embrace the bosom of another?

מטול דקדם עינוי דאלהא אנון ארחתיה דגברא וכולהון שבילוי גלן קדמוי:
qdmwy gln shbylwy wkwlhwn dgbra arkhthyh anwn dalha eynwy dqdm mTwl
For the ways of man are before Yahweh’s eyes. He examines all his paths.

חובוי דרשיעא קמטין ליה ובחבלי דחטוי נתפכר:
nthpkr dkhTwy wbkhbly lyh qmTyn drshyea khwbwy
The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare him. The cords of his sin hold him firmly.
