גברא דלא מקבל מכסנותא ומקשי קדליה בעגלא נתתבר ולא תהוי ליה אסו:
asw lyh thhwy wla nththbr begla qdlyh wmqshy mksnwtha mqbl dla gbra
He who is often rebuked and stiffens his neck will be destroyed suddenly, with no remedy.

בסוגעא דצדיקי חדי עמא ובשולטנא דרשיעי נתאנח עמא:
ema nthankh drshyey wbshwlTna ema khdy dtsdyqy bswgea
When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule, the people groan.

גברא דרחם חכמתא נחדי אבוי ודמתחבר בזניותא מוביד מזליה:
mzlyh mwbyd bznywtha wdmthkhbr abwy nkhdy khkmtha drkhm gbra
Whoever loves wisdom brings joy to his father; but a companion of prostitutes squanders his wealth.

מלכא בדינא נוקים ארעא וגברא עולא עקר לה:
lh eqr ewla wgbra area nwqym bdyna mlka
The king by justice makes the land stable, but he who takes bribes tears it down.

גברא דמתפלג על חבריה מצודתא פרס על הלכתיה:
hlkthyh el prs mtswdtha khbryh el dmthplg gbra
A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet.

גברא בישא בחוביה מתציד וצדיקא דיץ וחדי:
wkhdy dyts wtsdyqa mthtsyd bkhwbyh bysha gbra
An evil man is snared by his sin, but the righteous can sing and be glad.

ידע צדיקא דנהון דמסכני ורשיעי לא מתבינין ידיעתא:
ydyetha mthbynyn la wrshyey dmskny dnhwn tsdyqa yde
The righteous care about justice for the poor. The wicked aren’t concerned about knowledge.

גברא ממקני ממללין כדבא וחכימי מהפכין רוגזא:
rwgza mhpkyn wkhkymy kdba mmllyn mmqny gbra
Mockers stir up a city, but wise men turn away anger.

גברא חכימא דין עם גברא שטיא ורגז וחאך ולא מתתבר:
mththbr wla wkhak wrgz shTya gbra em dyn khkyma gbra
If a wise man goes to court with a foolish man, the fool rages or scoffs, and there is no peace.

גברי דאשדין דמא סנין תמימותא ותריצי בעין לה:
lh beyn wthrytsy thmymwtha snyn dma dashdyn gbry
The bloodthirsty hate a man of integrity; and they seek the life of the upright.

כולא חומתיה מפיק סכלא וחכימא ברעינא מאכה:
makh breyna wkhkyma skla mpyq khwmthyh kwla
A fool vents all of his anger, but a wise man brings himself under control.

שליטא דצאת מלי דשקרא כלהון משמשנוי רשיעי:
rshyey mshmshnwy klhwn dshqra mly dtsath shlyTa
If a ruler listens to lies, all of his officials are wicked.

מסכנא וגברא מצעיא פגיעו חד בחד ואלהא מנהיר עינוי דתרויהון:
dthrwyhwn eynwy mnhyr walha bkhd khd pgyew mtseya wgbra mskna
The poor man and the oppressor have this in common: Yahweh gives sight to the eyes of both.

מלכא דדאן בקושטא למסכני כורסיה לעלם תקין:
thqyn lelm kwrsyh lmskny bqwshTa ddan mlka
The king who fairly judges the poor, his throne shall be established forever.

שבטא ומכסנותא יהבין חכמתא וטליא דלא מקבל בעא מבהית אמיה:
amyh mbhyth bea mqbl dla wTlya khkmtha yhbyn wmksnwtha shbTa
The rod of correction gives wisdom, but a child left to himself causes shame to his mother.

בסוגעא דרשיעי חובא נסגי וצדיקיא יחמון במפלתהון:
bmplthhwn ykhmwn wtsdyqya nsgy khwba drshyey bswgea
When the wicked increase, sin increases; but the righteous will see their downfall.
17
רדי בברך ויניחך ויתן תפנוקי לנפשך:
lnpshk thpnwqy wythn wynykhk bbrk rdy
Correct your son, and he will give you peace; yes, he will bring delight to your soul.

בסוגעא דעולאי מתתרע עמא ודנטר אוריתא טובוהי:
Twbwhy awrytha wdnTr ema mththre dewlay bswgea
Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed.

במלי לא מתרדי עבדא דידע גיר ולא בליע:
blye wla gyr dyde ebda mthrdy la bmly
A servant can’t be corrected by words. Though he understands, yet he will not respond.
20
אין חזיתא גברא דמערקלין מלוי סכויא דטב הוא סכלא מניה:
mnyh skla hwa dTb skwya mlwy dmerqlyn gbra khzytha ayn
Do you see a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

מתפנק מן טליותיה לעבדא נהוי ובאחריתיה יהי מנסה:
mnsh yhy wbakhrythyh nhwy lebda Tlywthyh mn mthpnq
He who pampers his servant from youth will have him become a son in the end.

גברא רגזנא מגרג תיגרי וגברא חמתנא סגיעין חובוי:
khwbwy sgyeyn khmthna wgbra thygry mgrg rgzna gbra
An angry man stirs up strife, and a wrathful man abounds in sin.

רמותא דבר נשא תשפלניה ומן דמכיכא רוחיה נפלג יקרא:
yqra nplg rwkhyh dmkyka wmn thshplnyh nsha dbr rmwtha
A man’s pride brings him low, but one of lowly spirit gains honor.

דפלג עם גנבא סני נפשיה נפסק מומתא ולא מודה:
mwdh wla mwmtha npsq npshyh sny gnba em dplg
Whoever is an accomplice of a thief is an enemy of his own soul. He takes an oath, but dares not testify.

טלומיא דבר נשא עבדא ליה תקולתא ודמסבר באלהא נעשן:
neshn balha wdmsbr thqwltha lyh ebda nsha dbr Tlwmya
The fear of man proves to be a snare, but whoever puts his trust in Yahweh is kept safe.

סגיעי דבעין אפי דשליטא ומן קדם אלהא דיניה דגברא:
dgbra dynyh alha qdm wmn dshlyTa apy dbeyn sgyey
Many seek the ruler’s favor, but a man’s justice comes from Yahweh.
