ערקין רשיעי בדלית דרדף להון וצדיקי היך אריא דמסתכי למיכולתיה מסברין לחכמתא:
lkhkmtha msbryn lmykwlthyh dmsthky arya hyk wtsdyqy lhwn drdp bdlyth rshyey erqyn
The wicked flee when no one pursues; but the righteous are as bold as a lion.

בחוביהא דארעא סגיעין רברבנהא ובני נשא דמתבינין מידיעתא נגדון:
ngdwn mydyetha dmthbynyn nsha wbny rbrbnha sgyeyn darea bkhwbyha
In rebellion, a land has many rulers, but order is maintained by a man of understanding and knowledge.

גברא דעשק למסכני איך מטרא חביטא דלית ביה יתרן:
ythrn byh dlyth khbyTa mTra ayk lmskny deshq gbra
A needy man who oppresses the poor is like a driving rain which leaves no crops.

דשבקין נמוסא משתבחין ברשעא ואלין דנטרין אוריתא מתגרין בהון דיתובון:
dythwbwn bhwn mthgryn awrytha dnTryn walyn brshea mshthbkhyn nmwsa dshbqyn
Those who forsake the law praise the wicked; but those who keep the law contend with them.

בני נשא בישי לא מתבינין דינא ודבעי מן קדם יי מתבינין כולהון טבתא:
Tbtha kwlhwn mthbynyn yy qdm mn wdbey dyna mthbynyn la byshy nsha bny
Evil men don’t understand justice; but those who seek Yahweh understand it fully.

טב מסכינא דמהלך בתמימותיה מן הוא דמעקמן ארחתיה והוא עתיר:
ethyr whwa arkhthyh dmeqmn hwa mn bthmymwthyh dmhlk mskyna Tb
Better is the poor who walks in his integrity than he who is perverse in his ways, and he is rich.

דנטר אוריתא ברא הוא דמתבין ודמתחבר לזלילי מחמץ אבוי:
abwy mkhmts lzlyly wdmthkhbr dmthbyn hwa bra awrytha dnTr
Whoever keeps the law is a wise son; but he who is a companion of gluttons shames his father.

דמסגיע מזליה בנכתתא וברביתא למן דמרחם על מסכני מכנשיה:
mknshyh mskny el dmrkhm lmn wbrbytha bnkththa mzlyh dmsgye
He who increases his wealth by excessive interest gathers it for one who has pity on the poor.

דמסכיר אודניה דלא נשמע אוריתא אף צלותיה מרחקא היא:
hya mrkhqa tslwthyh ap awrytha nshme dla awdnyh dmskyr
He who turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.

דמשגי תריצי בארחא בישתא בגמוצא הוא נפל ושלימי ותמימי נרתון טבתא:
Tbtha nrthwn wthmymy wshlymy npl hwa bgmwtsa byshtha barkha thrytsy dmshgy
Whoever causes the upright to go astray in an evil way, he will fall into his own trap; but the blameless will inherit good.

גברא עתירא חכים הוא בעינוי ומסכנא סוכלתנא בסר ליה:
lyh bsr swklthna wmskna beynwy hwa khkym ethyra gbra
The rich man is wise in his own eyes; but the poor who has understanding sees through him.

כד יחדון צדיקיא סגיעא שבהורא ובקומא דרשיעי מבצי בר נשא:
nsha br mbtsy drshyey wbqwma shbhwra sgyea tsdyqya ykhdwn kd
When the righteous triumph, there is great glory; but when the wicked rise, men hide themselves.

דמכסה חובוי לא נצלח ודמודי חטוי ושבק נרחם עלוי אלהא:
alha elwy nrkhm wshbq khTwy wdmwdy ntslkh la khwbwy dmksh
He who conceals his sins doesn’t prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

טובוהי דבר נשא דמדליח לביה תדירא ומן דמקשי לביה נפל בבישתא:
bbyshtha npl lbyh dmqshy wmn thdyra lbyh dmdlykh nsha dbr Twbwhy
Blessed is the man who always fears; but one who hardens his heart falls into trouble.

אריא נהם ודובא מצריח על רשיעא דמשתליט על עמא מסכנא:
mskna ema el dmshthlyT rshyea el mtsrykh wdwba nhm arya
As a roaring lion or a charging bear, so is a wicked ruler over helpless people.

שליטא חסיר הוינא סגיען עושקוי ואנא דשני טולמיא נגדון יומוי:
ywmwy ngdwn Twlmya dshny wana ewshqwy sgyen hwyna khsyr shlyTa
A tyrannical ruler lacks judgment. One who hates ill-gotten gain will have long days.

בר נשא דחשש בדמא דנפשא עד גובא נערוק לא נצורוניה:
ntswrwnyh la nerwq gwba ed dnpsha bdma dkhshsh nsha br
A man who is tormented by blood guilt will be a fugitive until death. No one will support him.

דמהלך בתמימותא נתפרק ודמעקמן ארחתיה נפול בחדא:
bkhda npwl arkhthyh wdmeqmn nthprq bthmymwtha dmhlk
Whoever walks blamelessly is kept safe; but one with perverse ways will fall suddenly.

דפלח בארעיה נסבע לחמא ודרדף סריקותא נסבע מסכנותא:
msknwtha nsbe sryqwtha wdrdp lkhma nsbe bareyh dplkh
One who works his land will have an abundance of food; but one who chases fantasies will have his fill of poverty.

גברא מהימנא סגיען ברכתיה ודרהט בעולא דנעתר לא מזדכי:
mzdky la dnethr bewla wdrhT brkthyh sgyen mhymna gbra
A faithful man is rich with blessings; but one who is eager to be rich will not go unpunished.
21
מסב באפי לא טב ועל פתחא דלחמא נחוב גברא:
gbra nkhwb dlkhma pthkha wel Tb la bapy msb
To show partiality is not good, yet a man will do wrong for a piece of bread.

דמסתרהב למזלא גברא דביש עיניה ולא ידע דחוסרנא אתי עלוי:
elwy athy dkhwsrna yde wla eynyh dbysh gbra lmzla dmsthrhb
A stingy man hurries after riches, and doesn’t know that poverty waits for him.

דמכס לבר נשא קדמוי חסדא נשכח טב מן הוא דמפליג בלישן:
blyshn dmplyg hwa mn Tb nshkkh khsda qdmwy nsha lbr dmks
One who rebukes a man will afterward find more favor than one who flatters with the tongue.
24
דגזל לאבוי ולאמיה ואמר לית חובא חברא הוא לגברא מחבלנא:
mkhblna lgbra hwa khbra khwba lyth wamr wlamyh labwy dgzl
Whoever robs his father or his mother and says, “It’s not wrong,” is a partner with a destroyer.

גברא רחב מגרג תגרי ודמסבר באלהא נדהון:
ndhwn balha wdmsbr thgry mgrg rkhb gbra
One who is greedy stirs up strife; but one who trusts in Yahweh will prosper.

דתכל על לביה סכלא הוא ודמהלך בחכימותא נתחמי מן ביש:
bysh mn nthkhmy bkhkymwtha wdmhlk hwa skla lbyh el dthkl
One who trusts in himself is a fool; but one who walks in wisdom is kept safe.
27
דיהב למסכנא לא נחסר ליה ודמחמי עיניה מן מסכנא סגיעין לוטתיה:
lwTthyh sgyeyn mskna mn eynyh wdmkhmy lyh nkhsr la lmskna dyhb
One who gives to the poor has no lack; but one who closes his eyes will have many curses.
