אף אלין מתלוי דשלמה עמיקי דכתבו רחמוי דחזקיה מלכא דיהודה:
dyhwdh mlka dkhzqyh rkhmwy dkthbw emyqy dshlmh mthlwy alyn ap
These also are proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.

יקרא דאלהא מן דמטשי מלתא ויקרא דמלכי מן דבצי מלתא:
mltha dbtsy mn dmlky wyqra mltha dmTshy mn dalha yqra
It is the glory of God to conceal a thing, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.

שמיא רמין וארעא עמיקא ולבא דמלכי לא מתבצי:
mthbtsy la dmlky wlba emyqa warea rmyn shmya
As the heavens for height, and the earth for depth, so the hearts of kings are unsearchable.

גבו סולאנא מן סומא דנפוק מאן מן צרפא:
tsrpa mn man dnpwq swma mn swlana gbw
Take away the dross from the silver, and material comes out for the refiner.

נתטריד רשיעא מן קדם מלכא ויתקן בצדקתא כורסיה:
kwrsyh btsdqtha wythqn mlka qdm mn rshyea nthTryd
Take away the wicked from the king’s presence, and his throne will be established in righteousness.

לא תשתבהר קדם מלכא ובדוכתא דרברבי לא תקום:
thqwm la drbrby wbdwktha mlka qdm thshthbhr la
Don’t exalt yourself in the presence of the king, or claim a place among great men;

מטול דטב דנימר לך סוק הכא מן דמשפילך קדם שליטא מן דחזין עינך:
eynk dkhzyn mn shlyTa qdm dmshpylk mn hka swq lk dnymr dTb mTwl
for it is better that it be said to you, “Come up here,” than that you should be put lower in the presence of the prince, whom your eyes have seen.

לא תפוק בדינא מסרהבאית דלא תדון באחריתה כד יחמיץ יתך חברך:
khbrk ythk ykhmyts kd bakhrythh thdwn dla msrhbayth bdyna thpwq la
Don’t be hasty in bringing charges to court. What will you do in the end when your neighbor shames you?

דינך דון עם חברך ורזא אוחרנא לא תגלי:
thgly la awkhrna wrza khbrk em dwn dynk
Debate your case with your neighbor, and don’t betray the confidence of another,

דלא נחסדך מן דשמע וטיבך לא הפיך:
hpyk la wTybk dshme mn nkhsdk dla
lest one who hears it put you to shame, and your bad reputation never depart.

חזורי דדהבא בנגודי דסמא מלתא דמלל פסיאית:
psyayth dmll mltha dsma bngwdy ddhba khzwry
A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.

קדשי דדהבא ומני דזמרגדא מכסנותא דחכימא על אודנא דשמעא:
dshmea awdna el dkhkyma mksnwtha dzmrgda wmny ddhba qdshy
As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover to an obedient ear.

איך קרירותא דתלגא ביומא דחצדא היכנא אזגדא מהימנא למשדרוי ונפשיה דמריה מהפך:
mhpk dmryh wnpshyh lmshdrwy mhymna azgda hykna dkhtsda bywma dthlga qryrwtha ayk
As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to those who send him; for he refreshes the soul of his masters.

ליומא דענני ורוחא דמטרא לאית מדמי גברא דמשתבהר במהובתא דשקרא:
dshqra bmhwbtha dmshthbhr gbra mdmy layth dmTra wrwkha denny lywma
As clouds and wind without rain, so is he who boasts of gifts deceptively.

בנגדותא דרוחא משתרגג רשאנא ומלתא רכיכתא תברא גרמא:
grma thbra rkyktha wmltha rshana mshthrgg drwkha bngdwtha
By patience a ruler is persuaded. A soft tongue breaks the bone.
16
דבשא משכחת אכול סופקנך דלא תשבע ותתיביניה:
wththybynyh thshbe dla swpqnk akwl mshkkhth dbsha
Have you found honey? Eat as much as is sufficient for you, lest you eat too much, and vomit it.
17
כלא רגלך מן ביתיה דרחמך דלא נסבעך ומסניך:
wmsnyk nsbek dla drkhmk bythyh mn rglk kla
Let your foot be seldom in your neighbor’s house, lest he be weary of you, and hate you.

איך פריעא וסיפא נגידא שנינא גברא דמסהד על חבריה סהדותא דשקרא:
dshqra shdwtha khbryh el dmshd gbra shnyna ngyda wsypa pryea ayk
A man who gives false testimony against his neighbor is like a club, a sword, or a sharp arrow.

איך שינא בישתא ורגלא מועדא היכנא סבריה דבזוזא ביומא דעקתא:
deqtha bywma dbzwza sbryh hykna mweda wrgla byshtha shyna ayk
Confidence in someone unfaithful in time of trouble is like a bad tooth or a lame foot.

דשקל מרטוטא מן חבריה ביום דקרתא היך הוא דרמי חילא על נתרא ומצרף ללבא כיכא היך ססא למנא ואיך מלטיתא בקיתא היכנא בריותא מחדא לביה דגברא:
dgbra lbyh mkhda brywtha hykna bqytha mlTytha wayk lmna ssa hyk kyka llba wmtsrp nthra el khyla drmy hwa hyk dqrtha bywm khbryh mn mrTwTa dshql
As one who takes away a garment in cold weather, or vinegar on soda, so is one who sings songs to a heavy heart.

אין כפן סנאך אוכליה לחמא ואין צחי אשקיה מיא:
mya ashqyh tskhy wayn lkhma awklyh snak kpn ayn
If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat. If he is thirsty, give him water to drink;

מטול דגומרי דנורא חתי אנת על רישיה ואלהא נשלמיה לך:
lk nshlmyh walha ryshyh el anth khthy dnwra dgwmry mTwl
for you will heap coals of fire on his head, and Yahweh will reward you.

רוחא גרביתא בטנא מטרא היכנא אפי בניסתא ולישנא מטשיא:
mTshya wlyshna bnystha apy hykna mTra bTna grbytha rwkha
The north wind produces rain; so a backbiting tongue brings an angry face.

טב למיתב על קרנא דאגרא מן דלמעמד עם אתתא תגרניתא וביתא טרקא:
Trqa wbytha thgrnytha aththa em dlmemd mn dagra qrna el lmythb Tb
It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop than to share a house with a contentious woman.

מיא קרירי על נפשא משלהתא היכנא שמועתא טבתא מן ארעא רחיקתא:
rkhyqtha area mn Tbtha shmwetha hykna mshlhtha npsha el qryry mya
Like cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

היך דסכיר אניש מעינא ומבועא מחבל צדיקא דנפל קדם רשיעא:
rshyea qdm dnpl tsdyqa mkhbl wmbwea meyna anysh dskyr hyk
Like a muddied spring and a polluted well, so is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.
27
למיכל דובשא סגי לא שפיר אף לא למבציא מלי מיקרתא:
myqrtha mly lmbtsya la ap shpyr la sgy dwbsha lmykl
It is not good to eat much honey, nor is it honorable to seek one’s own honor.
