ܠܐ ܬܛܢ ܒܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܒܝܫ̈ܐ ܘܠܐ ܬܪܓ ܠܡܗܘܐ ܥܡܗܘܢ

Don’t be envious of evil men, neither desire to be with them;

ܡܛܠ ܕܒܝܫܬܐ ܗܘ ܪܢܐ ܠܒܗܘܢ ܘܥܘ̣ܠܐ ܡܡ̈ܠܠܢ ܣ̈ܦܘܬܗܘܢ

for their hearts plot violence and their lips talk about mischief.

ܒܚܟܡܬܐ ܡܬܒܢܐ ܒܝܬܐ ܘܒܣܘܟܠܐ ܟܠܗ ܬܩܢ
bkhkmth' mthbn' byth' wbswkl' klh thqn
Through wisdom a house is built; by understanding it is established;

ܘܒܝܕܥܬܐ ܡܬܡܠܝܢ ܬܘ̈ܘܢܐ ܟܠ ܩܢܝܢܐ ܘܐܝܩܪܐ ܘܒܘܣܡܐ
wbydeth' mthmlyn thwwn' kl qnyn' w'yqr' wbwsm'
by knowledge the rooms are filled with all rare and beautiful treasure.

ܛܒ ܗܘ ܚܟܝܡܐ ܡܢ ܥܫܝܢܐ ܘܓܒܪܐ ܕܝܕܥܬܐ ܡܢ ܓܢܒܪ ܚܝܠܐ
Tb hw khkym' mn eshyn' wgbr' dydeth' mn gnbr khyl'
A wise man has great power. A knowledgeable man increases strength,

ܒܓܘܪܓܐ ܡܬܥܒܕ ܩܪܒܐ ܘܦܘܪܩܢܐ ܒܣܘܓܐܐ ܕܡܠ̣ܟܐ
bgwrg' mthebd qrb' wpwrqn' bswg'' dmlk'
for by wise guidance you wage your war, and victory is in many advisors.

ܚܟܡܬܐ ܪܡܝܐ ܠܣܟܠܐ ܘܒܬܪܥܐ ܠܐ ܦܬܚ ܦܘܡܗ
khkmth' rmy' lskl' wbthre' l' pthkh pwmh
Wisdom is too high for a fool. He doesn’t open his mouth in the gate.

ܕܡܬܚܫܒ ܠܡܒܐܫܘ ܓܒܪܐ ܥܘܠܐ ܡܬܩܪܐ
dmthkhshb lmb'shw gbr' ewl' mthqr'
One who plots to do evil will be called a schemer.

ܘܬܪܥܝܬܗ ܕܣܟܠܐ ܚܛܝܬܐ ܘܛܡܐܘܬܗ ܕܒܪܢܫܐ ܒܝܫܬܐ
wthreythh dskl' khTyth' wTm'wthh dbrnsh' byshth'
The schemes of folly are sin. The mocker is detested by men.

ܘܠܥܘ̈ܠܐ ܒܝܫܬܐ ܬܕܒܪ ܐܢܘܢ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܕܐܘܠܨܢܐ

If you falter in the time of trouble, your strength is small.

ܦܨܐ ܠܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܡܬܕܒܪܝܢ ܠܡܘܬܐ ܘܠܡܙܒܢ ܠܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܡܬܬܚܕܝܢ ܠܩܛܠܐ ܠܐ ܬܚܘܣ

Rescue those who are being led away to death! Indeed, hold back those who are staggering to the slaughter!

ܘܐܢ ܬܐܡܪ ܕܠܐ ܝܕܥ ܐܢܐ ܕܥ ܕܬܪܥܝܬܐ ܕܠܒܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܒܨܐ ܘܕܢܛܪ ܢܦܫܟ ܗܘ ܝܕܥ ܘܦܪܥ ܠܒܪ ܐܢܫܐ ܐܝܟ ܥ̇ܒ̈ܕܘܗܝ

If you say, “Behold, we didn’t know this,” doesn’t he who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, doesn’t he know it? Shall he not give to every man according to his work?

ܐܟܘܠ ܒܪܝ ܕܒܫܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܛܒ ܗܘ ܘܟܟܪܝܬܐ ܚܠܝܬܐ ܒܚܟܟ

My son, eat honey, for it is good, the droppings of the honeycomb, which are sweet to your taste;

ܗܟܢܐ ܐܦ ܚܟܡܬܐ ܠܢܦܫܟ ܬܫܟܚ ܘܬܗܘܐ ܠܟ ܚܪܬܐ ܘܣܒܪܟ ܠܐ ܢܬܦܣܩ

so you shall know wisdom to be to your soul. If you have found it, then there will be a reward: Your hope will not be cut off.

ܠܐ ܬܟܡܢ ܥܘ̣ܠܐ ܒܕܝܪܗ ܕܙܕܝܩܐ ܘܠܐ ܬܒܘܙ ܒܝܬ ܡܫܪܝܗ

Don’t lay in wait, wicked man, against the habitation of the righteous. Don’t destroy his resting place;

ܡܛܠ ܕܫܒܥ ܙܒ̈ܢܝܢ ܢܦܠ ܙܕܝܩܐ ܘܩܐܡ ܘܪ̈ܫܝܥܐ ܒܒܝܫܬܐ ܢܣܬܚܦܘܢ
mTl dshbe zbnyn npl zdyq' wq'm wrshye' bbyshth' nsthkhpwn
for a righteous man falls seven times and rises up again, but the wicked are overthrown by calamity.

ܡܐ ܕܢܦܠ ܒܥܠܕܒܒܟ ܠܐ ܬܚܕܐ ܘܡܐ ܕܡܣܬܚܦ ܠܐ ܢܕܘܨ ܠܒܟ

Don’t rejoice when your enemy falls. Don’t let your heart be glad when he is overthrown,

ܕܠܐ ܢܚܙܐ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܢܬܒܐܫ ܒܥܝܢ̈ܘܗܝ ܘܢܗܦܟ ܪܘܓܙܗ ܡܢܗ

lest Yahweh see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

ܠܐ ܬܚܣܡ ܒܒ̈ܝܫܐ ܘܠܐ ܬܛܢ ܒܥܘ̈ܠܐ
l' thkhsm bbysh' wl' thTn bewl'
Don’t fret yourself because of evildoers, neither be envious of the wicked;

ܡܛܠ ܕܠܒܝܫ̈ܐ ܠܐ ܗܘܝܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܚܪܬܐ ܘܫܪܓܐ ܕܥܘ̈ܠܐ ܢܕܥܟ

for there will be no reward to the evil man. The lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out.

ܕܚܠ ܒܪܝ ܡܢ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܐܡܠܟ ܘܥܡ ܫ̈ܛܝܐ ܠܐ ܬܬܚܠܛ

My son, fear Yahweh and the king. Don’t join those who are rebellious,

ܡܢ ܫܠܝܐ ܓܝܪ ܐܬܐ ܬܒܪܗܘܢ ܘܣܘܦܐ ܕܫ̈ܢܝܗܘܢ ܡܢܘ ܝܕܥ
mn shly' gyr 'th' thbrhwn wswp' dshnyhwn mnw yde
for their calamity will rise suddenly. Who knows what destruction may come from them both?

ܗܠܝܢ ܠܚ̈ܟܝܡܐ ܐܡܪ ܐܢܐ ܠܡܣܒ ܒܐ̈ܦܐ ܒܕܝܢܐ ܠܐ ܫܦܝܪ

These also are sayings of the wise: To show partiality in judgment is not good.

ܐܦ ܠܐ ܠܡܐܡܪ ܠܥܘܠܐ ܕܙܕܝܩ ܐܢܬ ܢܠܘܛܘܢܗ ܥܡ̈ܡܐ ܘܢܨܚܝܢܗ ܐ̈ܡܘܬܐ

He who says to the wicked, “You are righteous,” peoples will curse him, and nations will abhor him—

ܘܡܣܟ̈ܢܐ ܢܬܒܣܡܘܢ ܘܥܠܝܗܘܢ ܬܐܬܐ ܒܘܪܟܬܐ ܛܒܬܐ

but it will go well with those who convict the guilty, and a rich blessing will come on them.

ܘܣ̈ܦܘܬܐ ܢܢܫܩܘܢ ܕܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܡܟܣ̈ܢܝܢ
wspwth' nnshqwn d'ylyn dmksnyn
An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips.

ܛܝܒ ܒܫܘܩܐ ܥ̇ܒ̈ܕܝܟ ܘܥܬܕ ܒܚܩܠܟ ܘܒܬܪܟܢ ܬܒܢܐ ܒܝܬܟ
Tyb bshwq' ebdyk wethd bkhqlk wbthrkn thbn' bythk
Prepare your work outside, and get your fields ready. Afterwards, build your house.

ܠܐ ܬܗܘܐ ܣܗܕܐ ܕܓܠܐ ܥܠ ܚܒܪܟ ܘܠܐ ܬܦܬܦܬܝܘܗܝ ܒܣ̈ܦܘܬܟ

Don’t be a witness against your neighbor without cause. Don’t deceive with your lips.

ܘܠܐ ܬܐܡܪ ܕܐܥܒܕ ܠܗ ܐܝܟ ܕܥܒܕ ܠܝ ܘܐܦܪܥܝܘܗܝ ܐܝܟ ܥ̇ܒ̈ܕܘܗܝ
wl' th'mr d'ebd lh 'yk debd ly w'preywhy 'yk ebdwhy
Don’t say, “I will do to him as he has done to me; I will repay the man according to his work.”

ܥܠ ܚܩܠܗ ܕܓܒܪܐ ܚܒܢܢܐ ܥܒܪܬ ܘܥܠ ܟܪܡܗ ܕܒܪܢܫܐ ܚܣܝܪ ܠܒܐ

I went by the field of the sluggard, by the vineyard of the man void of understanding.

ܘܣܠܩ ܟܠܗ ܐܬܡܠܝ ܝܥܪܐ ܘܟܣܝܘ ܐ̈ܦܘܗܝ ܚ̈ܘܠܕܐ ܘܣ̈ܝܓܘܗܝ ܕܟܐ̈ܦܐ ܐܣܬܚܦܘ

Behold, it was all grown over with thorns. Its surface was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down.

ܘܚܙܝܬ ܐܢܐ ܘܣܡܬ ܒܠܒܝ ܘܩܒܠܬ ܡܪܕܘܬܐ

ܘܐܢ ܩܠܝܠ ܬܢܘܡ ܘܩܠܝܠ ܬܕܡܟ ܘܩܠܝܠ ܬܣܝܡ ܐܝܕܟ ܥܠ ܚܕܝܟ

a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep,

ܬܐܙܠ ܩܕܡܝܟ ܡܣܟܢܘܬܐ ܘܬܕܪܟܟ ܨܪܝܟܘܬܐ ܐܝܟ ܓܒܪܐ ܛܒܠܪܐ

so your poverty will come as a robber and your want as an armed man.
