ܐܢ ܝܬܒ ܐܢܬ ܠܡܚܫܡܘ ܥܡ ܫܠܝܛܐ ܐܫܬܘܕܥ ܡܕܡ ܕܣܝܡ ܩܕܡܝܟ
qdmyk dsym mdm 'shthwde shlyT' em lmkhshmw 'nth ythb 'n
When you sit to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before you;

ܕܠܐ ܬܣܝܡ ܣܟܝܢܐ ܒܦܘܡܟ ܐܢ ܐܝܬ ܓܒܪܐ ܕܢܦܝܫ
dnpysh gbr' 'yth 'n bpwmk skyn' thsym dl'
put a knife to your throat if you are a man given to appetite.

ܠܐ ܬܪܓ ܡܢ ܡܐܟܘܠܬܗ ܡܛܠ ܕܠܚܡܗ ܠܚܡܐ ܗܘ ܕܕܓܠܘܬܐ
ddglwth' hw lkhm' dlkhmh mTl m'kwlthh mn thrg l'
Don’t be desirous of his dainties, since they are deceitful food.

ܠܐ ܬܬܩܪܒ ܠܥܬܝܪܐ ܐܠܐ ܒܚܟܡܬܐ ܐܬܦܪܩ ܡܢܗ
mnh 'thprq bkhkmth' 'l' lethyr' ththqrb l'
Don’t weary yourself to be rich. In your wisdom, show restraint.

ܐܢ ܬܨܕ ܓܝܪ ܥܝܢܟ ܒܗ ܠܐ ܡܬܚܙܐ ܠܟ ܡܛܠ ܕܥܒܕ ܠܗ ܓܦ̈ܐ ܐܝܟ ܕܢܫܪܐ ܘܦܪܚ ܠܫܡܝܐ
lshmy' wprkh dnshr' 'yk gp' lh debd mTl lk mthkhz' l' bh eynk gyr thtsd 'n
Why do you set your eyes on that which is not? For it certainly sprouts wings like an eagle and flies in the sky.

ܠܐ ܬܚܫܡ ܥܡ ܓܒܪܐ ܚܘܪܐ ܘܠܐ ܬܪܓ ܡܢ ܡܐܟܘܠܬܗ
m'kwlthh mn thrg wl' khwr' gbr' em thkhshm l'
Don’t eat the food of him who has a stingy eye, and don’t crave his delicacies,

ܐܟܙܢܐ ܓܝܪ ܕܐܢܫ ܒܠܥ ܙܦܬܐ ܗܟܢܐ ܐܟܠ ܐܢܬ ܘܫܬܐ ܥܡܗ ܘܠܒܗ ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܠܘܬܟ
lwthk hw' l' wlbh emh wshth' 'nth 'kl hkn' zpth' ble d'nsh gyr 'kzn'
for as he thinks about the cost, so he is. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, but his heart is not with you.

ܘܠܚܡܐ ܕܐܟܠ ܐܢܬ ܡܬܝܒ ܐܢܬ ܠܗ ܘܡܚܒܠ ܐܢܬ ܡ̈ܠܝܟ ܒܣ̈ܝܡܬܐ
bsymth' mlyk 'nth wmkhbl lh 'nth mthyb 'nth d'kl wlkhm'
You will vomit up the morsel which you have eaten and waste your pleasant words.

ܩܕܡ ܣܟܠܐ ܠܐ ܬܡܠܠ ܡܛܠ ܕܫܐܛ ܠܗܝܢ ܠܡ̈ܠܝܟ
lmlyk lhyn dsh'T mTl thmll l' skl' qdm
Don’t speak in the ears of a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of your words.

ܠܐ ܬܫܢܐ ܬܚܘܡܐ ܕܡܢ ܥܠܡ ܘܒܚܩܠܐ ܕܝܬ̈ܡܐ ܠܐ ܬܥܘܠ
thewl l' dythm' wbkhql' elm dmn thkhwm' thshn' l'
Don’t move the ancient boundary stone. Don’t encroach on the fields of the fatherless,

ܡܛܘܠ ܕܦܪܘܩܗܘܢ ܬܩܝܦ ܗܘ ܘܗܘ ܢܕܘܢ ܕܝܢܗܘܢ ܥܡܟ
emk dynhwn ndwn whw hw thqyp dprwqhwn mTwl
for their Defender is strong. He will plead their case against you.

ܐܥܠ ܠܒܟ ܠܡܪܕܘܬܐ ܘܐܕܢܟ ܠܡܐܡܪܐ ܕܝܕܥܬܐ
dydeth' lm'mr' w'dnk lmrdwth' lbk 'el
Apply your heart to instruction, and your ears to the words of knowledge.

ܠܐ ܬܟܠܐ ܡܪܕܘܬܐ ܡܢ ܛܠܝܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܢ ܡܚܐ ܐܢܬ ܠܗ ܠܐ ܡܐܬ
m'th l' lh 'nth mkh' d'n mTl Tly' mn mrdwth' thkl' l'
Don’t withhold correction from a child. If you punish him with the rod, he will not die.

ܐܢܬ ܓܝܪ ܡܚܐ ܐܢܬ ܠܗ ܒܫܒܛܐ ܘܢܦܫܗ ܡܢ ܫܝܘܠ ܡܦܨܐ ܐܢܬ
'nth mpts' shywl mn wnpshh bshbT' lh 'nth mkh' gyr 'nth
Punish him with the rod, and save his soul from Sheol.

ܒܪܝ ܐܢ ܚܟܝܡ ܠܒܟ ܐܦ ܠܒܝ ܕܝܠܝ ܢܚܕܐ
nkhd' dyly lby 'p lbk khkym 'n bry
My son, if your heart is wise, then my heart will be glad, even mine.

ܘܢܕܘ̈ܨܢ ܟ̈ܘܠܝܬܝ ܡܐ ܕܡܡ̈ܠܠܢ ܣ̈ܦܘܬܟ ܬܪܝܨܘܬܐ
thrytswth' spwthk dmmlln m' kwlythy wndwtsn
Yes, my heart will rejoice when your lips speak what is right.

ܠܐ ܢܛܢ ܠܒܟ ܒܚ̈ܛܝܐ ܐܠܐ ܒܕܚܠܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܟܠ ܝܘܡ
ywm kl dmry' bdkhlthh 'l' bkhTy' lbk nTn l'
Don’t let your heart envy sinners, but rather fear Yahweh all day long.

ܕܬܗܘܐ ܠܟ ܚܪܬܐ ܘܣܒܪܟ ܠܐ ܢܓܡܪ
ngmr l' wsbrk khrth' lk dthhw'
Indeed surely there is a future hope, and your hope will not be cut off.

ܫܡܥ ܒܪܝ ܘܗܘܝ ܚܟܝܡ ܘܬܕܘܨ ܬܪܥܝܬܝ ܒܠܒܟ
blbk threythy wthdwts khkym whwy bry shme
Listen, my son, and be wise, and keep your heart on the right path!

ܠܐ ܬܗܘܐ ܪܘܝ ܒܚܡܪܐ ܘܠܐ ܬܗܘܐ ܐܣܘܛ ܒܒܣܪܐ
bbsr' 'swT thhw' wl' bkhmr' rwy thhw' l'
Don’t be among ones drinking too much wine, or those who gorge themselves on meat;

ܡܛܠ ܕܕܪܘܝ ܒܚܡܪܐ ܘܐܣܘܛ ܒܒܣܪܐ ܢܐܒܕ ܘܕܕܡܟ ܢܠܒܫ ܒܪܕܥܬܐ
brdeth' nlbsh wddmk n'bd bbsr' w'swT bkhmr' ddrwy mTl
for the drunkard and the glutton shall become poor; and drowsiness clothes them in rags.

ܫܡܥ ܠܐܒܘܟ ܕܐܘܠܕܟ ܘܠܐ ܬܫܘܛ ܣܝܒܘܬܗ̇ ܕܐܡܟ
d'mk sybwthh thshwT wl' d'wldk l'bwk shme
Listen to your father who gave you life, and don’t despise your mother when she is old.

ܩܘܫܬܐ ܩܢܝ ܘܠܐ ܬܙܒܢ ܚܟܡܬܐ ܘܡܪܕܘܬܐ ܘܣܘܟܠܐ
wswkl' wmrdwth' khkmth' thzbn wl' qny qwshth'
Buy the truth, and don’t sell it. Get wisdom, discipline, and understanding.

ܢܪܘܙ ܘܢܕܘܨ ܐܒܘܗܝ ܕܙܕܝܩܐ ܘܢܘܠܕ ܚܟܝܡܐ ܘܢܚܕܐ ܒܗ ܐܒܘܗܝ
'bwhy bh wnkhd' khkym' wnwld dzdyq' 'bwhy wndwts nrwz
The father of the righteous has great joy. Whoever fathers a wise child delights in him.

ܘܢܚܕܘܢ ܒܟ ܐܒܘܟ ܘܐܡܟ ܘܬܕܘܨ ܝܠܕܬܟ
yldthk wthdwts w'mk 'bwk bk wnkhdwn
Let your father and your mother be glad! Let her who bore you rejoice!

ܗܒ ܠܝ ܒܪܝ ܠܒܟ ܘܥܝܢ̈ܝܟ ܐܘܪ̈ܚܬܝ ܢܛܪ̈ܢ
nTrn 'wrkhthy weynyk lbk bry ly hb
My son, give me your heart; and let your eyes keep in my ways.

ܓܘܡܨܐ ܗܝ ܓܝܪ ܥܡܝܩܐ ܙܢܝܬܐ ܘܒܪܐ ܕܐܘܠܨܢܐ ܢܘܟܪܝܬܐ
nwkryth' d'wltsn' wbr' znyth' emyq' gyr hy gwmts'
For a prostitute is a deep pit; and a wayward wife is a narrow well.

ܘܡܢ ܫܠܝܐ ܡܘܒܕܐ ܘܒܢܝܢ̈ܫܐ ܣ̈ܓܝܐܐ ܥܘ̣ܠܐ ܡܣܓܝܢ
msgyn ewl' sgy'' wbnynsh' mwbd' shly' wmn
Yes, she lies in wait like a robber, and increases the unfaithful among men.

ܠܡ̇ܢ ܘܝܐ ܘܠܡ̇ܢ ܕܘܘܕܐ ܘܠܡ̇ܢ ܕܝܢܐ ܘܠܡ̇ܢ ܒܝܫܬ̈ܐ ܘܠܡ̇ܢ ܨܘ̈ܠܦܬܐ ܕܡܓܢ ܘܕܡ̇ܢ ܡܩ̈ܢܐܢ ܥܝ̈ܢܘܗܝ
eynwhy mqn'n wdmn dmgn tswlpth' wlmn byshth' wlmn dyn' wlmn dwwd' wlmn wy' lmn
Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes?

ܐܠܐ ܕܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܡܘܚܪܝܢ ܒܚܡܪܐ ܘܡܥܩܒܝܢ ܐܝܟܐ ܕܐܝܬ ܒܝܬ ܡܫܬܝܐ ܠܐ ܬܗܘܐ ܪܘܝ ܒܚܡܪܐ ܐܠܐ ܡܠܠ ܥܡ ܐܢܫܐ ܙܕܝܩ̈ܐ ܘܗܘܝܬ ܡܗܠܟ ܥܡܗܘܢ ܘܡܡܠܠ
wmmll emhwn mhlk whwyth zdyq' 'nsh' em mll 'l' bkhmr' rwy thhw' l' mshthy' byth d'yth 'yk' wmeqbyn bkhmr' dmwkhryn d'ylyn 'l'
Those who stay long at the wine; those who go to seek out mixed wine.

ܠܐ ܬܨܕ ܥܝܢܟ ܒܚܡܪܐ ܕܙܪܓܐ ܥܝܢܗ ܒܟܣܐ ܐܠܐ ܪܢܝ ܒܙܕܝܩܘܬܐ
bzdyqwth' rny 'l' bks' eynh dzrg' bkhmr' eynk thtsd l'
Don’t look at the wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly.

ܡܛܠ ܕܚܪܬܗ ܕܚܡܪܐ ܐܝܟ ܡܚܘܬܐ ܗܝ ܕܚܘܝܐ ܘܐܝܟ ܚܪܡܢܐ ܕܦܪܚ
dprkh khrmn' w'yk dkhwy' hy mkhwth' 'yk dkhmr' dkhrthh mTl
In the end, it bites like a snake, and poisons like a viper.

ܥܝܢ̈ܝܟ ܡܐ ܕܚܪ ܒܢܘܟܪܝܬܐ ܗܝܕܝܢ ܠܒܟ ܡܡܠܠ ܗ̈ܦܝܟܬܐ
hpykth' mmll lbk hydyn bnwkryth' dkhr m' eynyk
Your eyes will see strange things, and your mind will imagine confusing things.

ܘܗܘܐ ܐܢܬ ܠܟ ܐܝܟ ܗ̇ܘ ܕܫܟܝܒ ܒܠܒܗ ܕܝܡܐ ܘܐܝܟ ܡ̇ܠܚܐ ܒܡܚܫܘܠܐ ܪܒܐ
rb' bmkhshwl' mlkh' w'yk dym' blbh dshkyb hw 'yk lk 'nth whw'
Yes, you will be as he who lies down in the middle of the sea, or as he who lies on top of the rigging:

ܘܬܐܡܪ ܕܡܚܐܘܢܝ ܘܠܐ ܚܫܬ ܘܡܒܙܚܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܒܝ ܘܠܐ ܝܕܥ ܗܘܝܬ ܐܡܬܝ ܐܬܬܥܝܪ ܘܐܙܠ ܐܒܥܝܗ̇
'beyh w'zl 'ththeyr 'mthy hwyth yde wl' by hww wmbzkhyn khshth wl' dmkh'wny wth'mr
“They hit me, and I was not hurt! They beat me, and I don’t feel it! When will I wake up? I can do it again. I will look for more.”
