ܡܝܬܪ ܗܘ ܫܡܐ ܡܢ ܥܘܬܪܐ ܣܓܝܐܐ ܘܛܒܐ ܡܪܚܡܢܘܬܐ ܡܢ ܕܗܒܐ ܘܡܢ ܣܐܡܐ
s'm' wmn dhb' mn mrkhmnwth' wTb' sgy'' ewthr' mn shm' hw mythr
A good name is more desirable than great riches, and loving favor is better than silver and gold.

ܥܬܝܪܐ ܘܡܣܟܢܐ ܦܓܥܘ ܚܕ ܒܚܕ ܘܠܬܪ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܡܪܝܐ ܥܒ̣ܕ

The rich and the poor have this in common: Yahweh is the maker of them all.

ܥܪܝܡܐ ܚܙܐ ܒܝܫܐ ܕܡܬܢܓܕ ܘܥܫܝܢܐܝܬ ܐܬܪܕܝ ܣ̈ܟܠܐ ܕܝܢ ܥܒܪܘ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܘܚܣܪܘ

A prudent man sees danger and hides himself; but the simple pass on, and suffer for it.

ܥܩܒ̈ܝܗ̇ ܕܡܟܝܟܘܬܐ ܕܚܠܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܘܥܘܬܪܐ ܘܐܝܩܪܐ ܘܚ̈ܝܐ
wkhy' w'yqr' wewthr' dmry' dkhlthh dmkykwth' eqbyh
The result of humility and the fear of Yahweh is wealth, honor, and life.

ܢܫ̈ܒܐ ܘܦܚ̈ܐ ܒܐܘܪܚܐ ܥܣܩܬܐ ܘܡ̇ܢ ܕܢܛܪ ܢܦܫܗ ܢܬܪܚܩ ܡܢܗܘܢ
mnhwn nthrkhq npshh dnTr wmn esqth' b'wrkh' wpkh' nshb'
Thorns and snares are in the path of the wicked; whoever guards his soul stays far from them.

ܕܡܟܣ ܠܛܠܝܐ ܥܠ ܦܘܡܗ̇ ܕܐܘܪܚܗ ܐܦܢ ܢܩܫ ܠܐ ܢܣܛܐ ܡܢܗ̇

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

ܥܬܝܪܐ ܢܫܬܠܛ ܒܗ ܡܣܟܢܐ ܘܥܒ̣ܕܐ ܢܘܙܦ ܠܡ̇ܢ ܕܡܘܙܦ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ
lh hw' dmwzp lmn nwzp webd' mskn' bh nshthlT ethyr'
The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender.

ܕܙܪܥ ܥܘ̣ܠܐ ܢܚܨܘܕ ܥܬܐ ܘܫܒܛܐ ܕܐܟܬܗ ܢܓܡܘܪ
ngmwr d'kthh wshbT' eth' nkhtswd ewl' dzre
He who sows wickedness reaps trouble, and the rod of his fury will be destroyed.

ܡ̇ܢ ܕܛܒܐ ܥܝܢܗ ܗܘ ܢܬܒܪܟ ܡܛܠ ܕܝܗܒ ܡܢ ܠܚܡܗ ܠܡܣܟܢܐ

He who has a generous eye will be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor.

ܐܘܒܕ ܠܒܝܫܐ ܘܐܦܩ ܠܚܪܝܝܐ ܘܒܛܠ ܕܝܢܐ ܘܨܥܪܐ ܕܠܐ ܐܢ ܢܬܒ ܒܟܢܘܫܬܐ ܠܟܠܟܘܢ ܢܨܥܪ

Drive out the mocker, and strife will go out; yes, quarrels and insults will stop.

ܪܚܡ ܐܠܗܐ ܠܐܝܢܐ ܕܕܟܐ ܒܠܒܗ ܘܡܪܚܡ ܥܠ ܣ̈ܦܘܬܐ ܕܪ̈ܚܡܘܗܝ ܕܡܠܟܐ
dmlk' drkhmwhy spwth' el wmrkhm blbh ddk' l'yn' 'lh' rkhm
He who loves purity of heart and speaks gracefully is the king’s friend.

ܥܝܢ̈ܘܗܝ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܢܛܪ̈ܢ ܝܕܥܬܐ ܘܡܘܒ̈ܕܢ ܡ̈ܠܐ ܕܓ̈ܠܬܐ

Yahweh’s eyes watch over knowledge, but he frustrates the words of the unfaithful.

ܐܡܪ ܚܒܢܢܐ ܡܐ ܕܡܫܬܕܪ ܐܪܝܐ ܒܐܘܪܚܐ ܘܗܐ ܩܛܠܐ ܒܫ̈ܘܩܐ

The sluggard says, “There is a lion outside! I will be killed in the streets!”

ܓܘܡܨܐ ܥܡܝܩܐ ܦܘܡܗ̇ ܕܢܘܟܪܝܬܐ ܘܐܝܢܐ ܕܪܓܙ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܡܪܝܐ ܢܦܠ ܬܡܢ
thmn npl mry' elwhy drgz w'yn' dnwkryth' pwmh emyq' gwmts'
The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit. He who is under Yahweh’s wrath will fall into it.

ܫܛܝܘܬܐ ܡܦܪܕܐ ܠܒܗ ܕܛܠܝܐ ܘܫܒܛܐ ܕܡܪܕܘܬܐ ܡܪܚܩ ܡܢܗ
mnh mrkhq dmrdwth' wshbT' dTly' lbh mprd' shTywth'
Folly is bound up in the heart of a child; the rod of discipline drives it far from him.

ܕܬܐܟ ܠܡܣܟܢܐ ܡܣܓܐ ܒܝܫܬܗ ܘܕܝܗܒ ܠܥܬܝܪܐ ܚܘܣܪܢܐ ܗܘ ܠܢܦܫܗ
lnpshh hw khwsrn' lethyr' wdyhb byshthh msg' lmskn' dth'k
Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase and whoever gives to the rich, both come to poverty.

ܐܪܟܢ ܐܕܢܟ ܘܫܡܥ ܡ̈ܠܐ ܕܚ̈ܟܝܡܐ ܘܣܝܡ ܠܒܟ ܠܝܕܥܬܝ
lydethy lbk wsym dkhkym' ml' wshme 'dnk 'rkn
Turn your ear, and listen to the words of the wise. Apply your heart to my teaching.

ܡܛܘܠ ܕܒܣܝ̈ܡܢ ܐܢܝ̈ܢ ܛܪ ܐ̈ܢܝܢ ܒܟܪܣܟ ܘܢ̈ܬܩܢܢ ܐܝܟ ܚܕܐ ܥܠ ܣ̈ܦܘܬܟ
spwthk el khd' 'yk wnthqnn bkrsk 'nyn Tr 'nyn dbsymn mTwl
For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you, if all of them are ready on your lips.

ܕܢܗܘܐ ܬܘܟܠܢܟ ܥܠ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܘܕܥܬܟ ܝܘܡܢܐ
ywmn' 'wdethk mry' el thwklnk dnhw'
I teach you today, even you, so that your trust may be in Yahweh.

ܘܗܐ ܟܬܒܬ ܐ̈ܢܝܢ ܠܟ ܥܠ ܬܠܬ ܙܒ̈ܢܝܢ
zbnyn thlth el lk 'nyn kthbth wh'
Haven’t I written to you thirty excellent things of counsel and knowledge,

ܕܐܘܕܥܟ ܡܠ̣ܟܐ ܘܝܕܥܬܐ ܘܫܠܝܐ ܘܡ̈ܠܐ ܕܩܘܫܬܐ ܕܬܗܦܟ ܡܠܬܐ ܕܩܘܫܬܐ ܠܡ̇ܢ ܕܫܕܪܟ
dshdrk lmn dqwshth' mlth' dthhpk dqwshth' wml' wshly' wydeth' mlk' d'wdek
To teach you truth, reliable words, to give sound answers to the ones who sent you?

ܠܐ ܬܬܘܟ ܠܡܣܟܢܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܡܣܟܝܢ ܗܘ ܘܠܐ ܬܡܟܟ ܠܒܝ̇ܫܐ ܒܬܪܥܐ
bthre' lbysh' thmkk wl' hw dmskyn mTl lmskn' ththwk l'
Don’t exploit the poor because he is poor; and don’t crush the needy in court;

ܡܛܠ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܕܐ̇ܢ ܕܝܢܗܘܢ ܘܡܬܦܪܥ ܥܘܠܒܢܐ ܕܢܦܫܗܘܢ

for Yahweh will plead their case, and plunder the life of those who plunder them.

ܠܐ ܬܗܘܐ ܪܚܡܐ ܠܓܒܪܐ ܚܡܬܢܐ ܘܥܡ ܓܒܪܐ ܕܡܠܐ ܪܘܓܙܐ ܠܐ ܬܥܘܠ

Don’t befriend a hot-tempered man. Don’t associate with one who harbors anger,

ܕܠܐ ܬܐܠܦ ܢܡ̈ܘܣܘܗܝ ܘܬܫܟܚ ܬܘܩܠܬܐ ܠܢܦܫܟ

lest you learn his ways and ensnare your soul.

ܠܐ ܬܬܠ ܢܦܫܟ ܠܥܪܒܘܬܐ ܒܕܒܗ̇ܬ ܐܢܬ ܡܢ ܦܪ̈ܨܘܦܐ
prtswp' mn 'nth bdbhth lerbwth' npshk ththl l'
Don’t you be one of those who strike hands, of those who are collateral for debts.

ܐܢ ܠܝܬ ܠܟ ܓܝܪ ܡܢ ܐܬܪ ܕܬܦܪܘܥ ܢܣܒܝܢ ܬܫܘܝܬܐ ܡܢ ܬܚܘܬܝܟ
thkhwthyk mn thshwyth' nsbyn dthprwe 'thr mn gyr lk lyth 'n
If you don’t have means to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you?

ܠܐ ܬܫܢܐ ܬܚܘܡܐ ܕܡܢ ܥܠܡ ܕܥܒܕܘ ܐ̈ܒܗܝܟ
'bhyk debdw elm dmn thkhwm' thshn' l'
Don’t move the ancient boundary stone which your fathers have set up.
