שמא טבא אתבחר מן עותרא סגיעא ומכספא ומן דהבא שפיר חסדא:
khsda shpyr dhba wmn wmkspa sgyea ewthra mn athbkhr Tba shma
A good name is more desirable than great riches, and loving favor is better than silver and gold.

עתירא ומסכנא פגען חד בחד ותרויהון אלהא ברא אינון:
aynwn bra alha wthrwyhwn bkhd khd pgen wmskna ethyra
The rich and the poor have this in common: Yahweh is the maker of them all.

ערימא חזי בישתא ומטשי ושברי עבדין וחסרין אנון:
anwn wkhsryn ebdyn wshbry wmTshy byshtha khzy eryma
A prudent man sees danger and hides himself; but the simple pass on, and suffer for it.

עקבא דענותנותא דחלתא דיי עותרא ויקרא וחיי:
wkhyy wyqra ewthra dyy dkhltha denwthnwtha eqba
The result of humility and the fear of Yahweh is wealth, honor, and life.

נשבא בארחא עקימתא ומן דנטר נפשיה ירחק מנהון:
mnhwn yrkhq npshyh dnTr wmn eqymtha barkha nshba
Thorns and snares are in the path of the wicked; whoever guards his soul stays far from them.

אדרכא לטליא לקבל אורחיה דלא כד נסוב נסטי מניה:
mnyh nsTy nswb kd dla awrkhyh lqbl lTlya adrka
Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

עתירא במסכני נשתלט ועבדא יוזיף לגברא מוזפנא:
mwzpna lgbra ywzyp webda nshthlT bmskny ethyra
The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender.

דזריע עולא נחצד עאתא ושבטא דחריניה נגמור:
ngmwr dkhrynyh wshbTa eatha nkhtsd ewla dzrye
He who sows wickedness reaps trouble, and the rod of his fury will be destroyed.

מן דטבא הוא עיניה הוא נתברך מטול דיהיב מן לחמיה למסכינא:
lmskyna lkhmyh mn dyhyb mTwl nthbrk hwa eynyh hwa dTba mn
He who has a generous eye will be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor.

תרך לממקנא ואפיק לתגרנא ויבטל דינא וצערא:
wtsera dyna wybTl lthgrna wapyq lmmqna thrk
Drive out the mocker, and strife will go out; yes, quarrels and insults will stop.

רחם אלהא דכי לבא ובחסדא דשפותיה יתחבר למלכא:
lmlka ythkhbr dshpwthyh wbkhsda lba dky alha rkhm
He who loves purity of heart and speaks gracefully is the king’s friend.

עינוי דאלהא נטרן ידיעתא ומטלטל מליהון דבזוזי:
dbzwzy mlyhwn wmTlTl ydyetha nTrn dalha eynwy
Yahweh’s eyes watch over knowledge, but he frustrates the words of the unfaithful.

אמר עטלא בחכיננותיה אריא אית לברא ובינת שוקי מתקטלנא:
mthqTlna shwqy wbynth lbra ayth arya bkhkynnwthyh eTla amr
The sluggard says, “There is a lion outside! I will be killed in the streets!”

גומצא עמקתא פומא דנוכריתא ומן דמרגז קדם אלהא נפל תמן:
thmn npl alha qdm dmrgz wmn dnwkrytha pwma emqtha gwmtsa
The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit. He who is under Yahweh’s wrath will fall into it.

שטיותא קטירא בלביה דטליא שבטא דמרדותא נרחקיה מניה:
mnyh nrkhqyh dmrdwtha shbTa dTlya blbyh qTyra shTywtha
Folly is bound up in the heart of a child; the rod of discipline drives it far from him.

דעשק למסכנא מסגי ליה בישתא ודיהב לעתירא חוסרנא הוא ליה:
lyh hwa khwsrna lethyra wdyhb byshtha lyh msgy lmskna deshq
Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase and whoever gives to the rich, both come to poverty.
17
ברי צלי אדנך ושמע מלי דחכימי ולבך שים לידיעתי:
lydyethy shym wlbk dkhkymy mly wshme adnk tsly bry
Turn your ear, and listen to the words of the wise. Apply your heart to my teaching.

מטול דבסימין נטר אינון בכרסך ונתקנון איך חדא על שפותך:
shpwthk el khda ayk wnthqnwn bkrsk aynwn nTr dbsymyn mTwl
For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you, if all of them are ready on your lips.
19
דנהוי באלהא סברך ואודעתך יומנא הדא אף אנת:
anth ap hda ywmna wawdethk sbrk balha dnhwy
I teach you today, even you, so that your trust may be in Yahweh.

והא כתבת אנון לך על תלתא זמנין בעצתא וידיעתא:
wydyetha betstha zmnyn thltha el lk anwn kthbth wha
Haven’t I written to you thirty excellent things of counsel and knowledge,
21
לאודענך קושטא ומלי דתריצותא דתהפיך מלתא דקושטא למשדריך:
lmshdryk dqwshTa mltha dthhpyk dthrytswtha wmly qwshTa lawdenk
To teach you truth, reliable words, to give sound answers to the ones who sent you?
22
לא תגזול למסכנא מטול דמסכינא הוא ולא תמכיך עניא בתרעא:
bthrea enya thmkyk wla hwa dmskyna mTwl lmskna thgzwl la
Don’t exploit the poor because he is poor; and don’t crush the needy in court;
23
מטול דאלהא דאן דינהון ומתפרע פורענותהון דנפשהון:
dnpshhwn pwrenwthhwn wmthpre dynhwn dan dalha mTwl
for Yahweh will plead their case, and plunder the life of those who plunder them.
24
לא תתחבר עם מרי מרירותא ועם גברא חמתנא לא תעול:
thewl la khmthna gbra wem mryrwtha mry em ththkhbr la
Don’t befriend a hot-tempered man. Don’t associate with one who harbors anger,
25
דלא תילף ארחתיה ותשכח פחא לנפשך:
lnpshk pkha wthshkkh arkhthyh thylp dla
lest you learn his ways and ensnare your soul.

לא תהוי משלם אידך בערבותא על חברך:
khbrk el berbwtha aydk mshlm thhwy la
Don’t you be one of those who strike hands, of those who are collateral for debts.
27
אם לית לך דפריע נסבין תשויתך מתחתיך:
mthkhthyk thshwythk nsbyn dprye lk lyth am
If you don’t have means to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you?
28
לא תשני תחומא דמן עלמא דעבדו אבתך:
abthk debdw elma dmn thkhwma thshny la
Don’t move the ancient boundary stone which your fathers have set up.
