היך טיפי דמיא לביה דמלכא באידוי דאלהא ולאתר דצבי נרכן ליה:
lyh nrkn dtsby wlathr dalha baydwy dmlka lbyh dmya Typy hyk
The king’s heart is in Yahweh’s hand like the watercourses. He turns it wherever he desires.

כלהון ארחתיה דגברא תריצן אינון באפוי ואלהא מתקן לביה:
lbyh mthqn walha bapwy aynwn thrytsn dgbra arkhthyh klhwn
Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but Yahweh weighs the hearts.

מן דעבד צדקתא ודינא מתרעי ביה אלהא מן דבחא:
dbkha mn alha byh mthrey wdyna tsdqtha debd mn
To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to Yahweh than sacrifice.

רמות עיני ובעי לבא ושרגא דרשיעי לחטאה:
lkhTah drshyey wshrga lba wbey eyny rmwth
A high look and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, is sin.

מחשבתא דגבין ליותרגא ורגלא דמסרהבא לחוסרנא:
lkhwsrna dmsrhba wrgla lywthrga dgbyn mkhshbtha
The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit; and everyone who is hasty surely rushes to poverty.

מעבדנותא דסימתא בלשנא דשקרא ויתחבלון וינתרון אלין דבעין למותא:
lmwtha dbeyn alyn wynthrwn wythkhblwn dshqra blshna dsymtha mebdnwtha
Getting treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor for those who seek death.

דכונא דרשיעי יעלנון ולא צבין דיעבדון דינא:
dyna dyebdwn tsbyn wla yelnwn drshyey dkwna
The violence of the wicked will drive them away, because they refuse to do what is right.

דהפך ארחיה דגברא הוא נוכראה ודדכי תריצן עובדוהי:
ewbdwhy thrytsn wddky nwkrah hwa dgbra arkhyh dhpk
The way of the guilty is devious, but the conduct of the innocent is upright.

טב למיתב על קרנא דאגרא מן אתתא תגרניתא וביתא טרקא:
Trqa wbytha thgrnytha aththa mn dagra qrna el lmythb Tb
It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop than to share a house with a contentious woman.

נפשיה דרשיעא ריגא בישתא ולא מתרחם בעינוי חבריה:
khbryh beynwy mthrkhm wla byshtha ryga drshyea npshyh
The soul of the wicked desires evil; his neighbor finds no mercy in his eyes.

בתכיה דממקנא נחכם שברא ובסוכלתנותיה דחכימא יסב ידיעתא:
ydyetha ysb dkhkyma wbswklthnwthyh shbra nkhkm dmmqna bthkyh
When the mocker is punished, the simple gains wisdom. When the wise is instructed, he receives knowledge.

מתתכל צדיקא בביתיה דרשיעא ומטלטל רשיעיא בבישתא:
bbyshtha rshyeya wmTlTl drshyea bbythyh tsdyqa mththkl
The Righteous One considers the house of the wicked, and brings the wicked to ruin.

דמסכר אדניה דלא נשמע לצוחתיה דמסכנא אף נקרא לאלהא ולא נתעני:
ntheny wla lalha nqra ap dmskna ltswkhthyh nshme dla adnyh dmskr
Whoever stops his ears at the cry of the poor, he will also cry out, but shall not be heard.

מוהבא בטישא מדעכא רוגזא ושוחדא עובא חמתא עשינתא:
eshyntha khmtha ewba wshwkhda rwgza mdeka bTysha mwhba
A gift in secret pacifies anger, and a bribe in the cloak, strong wrath.

חדותא דצדיקא למעבד דינא ושציא לאילן דעבדין עאתא:
eatha debdyn layln wshtsya dyna lmebd dtsdyqa khdwtha
It is joy to the righteous to do justice; but it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity.

בר נשא דתעי מן אורחא דסכולא עם בני ארעא נתתנח:
nththnkh area bny em dskwla awrkha mn dthey nsha br
The man who wanders out of the way of understanding shall rest in the assembly of the departed spirits.
17
גברא די חסר ליה ורחם חדותא ורחם חמרא ובסמא לא נעתר:
nethr la wbsma khmra wrkhm khdwtha wrkhm lyh khsr dy gbra
He who loves pleasure will be a poor man. He who loves wine and oil won’t be rich.

שלחופיה דצדיקא רשיעא ושלחופי דתריצי בזוזי:
bzwzy dthrytsy wshlkhwpy rshyea dtsdyqa shlkhwpyh
The wicked is a ransom for the righteous, the treacherous for the upright.

טב למתב בארע מדברא מן אתתא תגרניתא ומרגזניתא:
wmrgznytha thgrnytha aththa mn mdbra bare lmthb Tb
It is better to dwell in a desert land, than with a contentious and fretful woman.
20
סימתא רגנתא ומשחא בדריה דחכימא וסכלא דבני נשא נבלענון:
nblenwn nsha dbny wskla dkhkyma bdryh wmshkha rgntha symtha
There is precious treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise, but a foolish man swallows it up.
21
דרדף צדקתא וחסדא ישכח חיי וצדקתא ויקרא:
wyqra wtsdqtha khyy yshkkh wkhsda tsdqtha drdp
He who follows after righteousness and kindness finds life, righteousness, and honor.
22
למדנתא דגברי סליק חכימא ואחת עושנא דסברא:
dsbra ewshna wakhth khkyma slyq dgbry lmdntha
A wise man scales the city of the mighty, and brings down the strength of its confidence.

דנטר פומיה ולישניה נטר מן עקתא נפשיה:
npshyh eqtha mn nTr wlyshnyh pwmyh dnTr
Whoever guards his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles.
24
ממיקנא מריחא זידנא שמיה עבד חרינא בזידנותיה:
bzydnwthyh khryna ebd shmyh zydna mrykha mmyqna
The proud and arrogant man—“Scoffer” is his name— he works in the arrogance of pride.
25
רגתא דעטלא ממיתא ליה דלא צבין אידין דעבדין עבדתא:
ebdtha debdyn aydyn tsbyn dla lyh mmytha deTla rgtha
The desire of the sluggard kills him, for his hands refuse to labor.

כל יומא ראג רגתא וצדיקא יהב ולא מחשך:
mkhshk wla yhb wtsdyqa rgtha rag ywma kl
There are those who covet greedily all day long; but the righteous give and don’t withhold.
27
דבחא דרשיעי מרחק הוא מטול דבעברתא מיתי ליה:
lyh mythy dbebrtha mTwl hwa mrkhq drshyey dbkha
The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination— how much more, when he brings it with a wicked mind!
28
סהדא דכדבותא יאבד וגברא שמועא שריראית ממלל:
mmll shryrayth shmwea wgbra yabd dkdbwtha shda
A false witness will perish. A man who listens speaks to eternity.
29
מחציף אפוי גברא רשיעא ותריצא הוא מתקן אורחיה:
awrkhyh mthqn hwa wthrytsa rshyea gbra apwy mkhtsyp
A wicked man hardens his face; but as for the upright, he establishes his ways.
30
לית חכמתא ולית ביונא ולית עצתא היך דאלהא:
dalha hyk etstha wlyth bywna wlyth khkmtha lyth
There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against Yahweh.
