ܡܬ̈ܠܘܗܝ ܕܫܠܝܡܘܢ ܒܪ ܕܘܝܕ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ
d'ysryl mlk' dwyd br dshlymwn mthlwhy
The proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel:

ܠܡܕܥ ܚܟܡܬܐ ܘܡܪܕܘܬܐ ܘܠܡܬܒܝܢܘ ܒܡ̈ܠܐ ܕܣܘܟܠܐ
dswkl' bml' wlmthbynw wmrdwth' khkmth' lmde
to know wisdom and instruction; to discern the words of understanding;

ܘܠܡܩܒܠܘ ܡܪܕܘܬܐ ܘܕܚܠܬܐ ܘܙܕܝܩܘܬܐ ܘܕܝܢܐ ܘܬܪܝܨܘܬܐ
wthrytswth' wdyn' wzdyqwth' wdkhlth' mrdwth' wlmqblw
to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity;

ܠܡܬܠ ܠܫܒܪ̈ܐ ܥܪܝܡܘܬܐ ܘ̈ܠܛܠܝܐ ܝܕܥܬܐ ܘܬܪܥܝܬܐ
wthreyth' ydeth' wlTly' erymwth' lshbr' lmthl
to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young man—

ܢܫܡܥ ܚܟܝܡܐ ܘܢܘܣܦ ܥܠ ܚܟܡܬܗ ܘܣܟܘܠܬܢܐ ܡܕܒܪܢܘܬܐ ܢܩܢܐ
nqn' mdbrnwth' wskwlthn' khkmthh el wnwsp khkym' nshme
that the wise man may hear, and increase in learning; that the man of understanding may attain to sound counsel;

ܕܢܫܬܘܕܥ ܡܬ̈ܠܐ ܘܦܠܐ̈ܬܐ ܘܡ̈ܠܐ ܕܚ̈ܟܝܡܐ ܘܐܘܚ̈ܕܬܗܘܢ
w'wkhdthhwn dkhkym' wml' wpl'th' mthl' dnshthwde
to understand a proverb and parables, the words and riddles of the wise.

ܪܝܫ ܚܟܡܬܐ ܕܚܠܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܝܕܥܬܐ ܕܝܢ ܘܡܪܕܘܬܐ ܫܝܛܝܢ ܥܘ̈ܠܐ
ewl' shyTyn wmrdwth' dyn ydeth' dmry' dkhlthh khkmth' rysh
The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge, but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.

ܫܡܥ ܒܪܝ ܢܡܘܣܐ ܕܐܒܘܟ ܘܠܐ ܬܛܥܐ ܢܡܘܣܐ ܕܐܡܟ
d'mk nmws' thTe' wl' d'bwk nmws' bry shme
My son, listen to your father’s instruction, and don’t forsake your mother’s teaching;

ܝܐܝܘܬܐ ܐܢܘܢ ܓܝܪ ܠܪܝܫܟ ܘܗܡܢܝܟܐ ܠܨܘܪܟ
ltswrk whmnyk' lryshk gyr 'nwn y'ywth'
for they will be a garland to grace your head, and chains around your neck.

ܒܪܝ ܐܢ ܢܫܕܠܘܢܟ ܚ̈ܛܝܐ ܠܐ ܬܛܦܝܣ
thTpys l' khTy' nshdlwnk 'n bry
My son, if sinners entice you, don’t consent.

ܘܐܢ ܢܐܡܪܘܢ ܠܟ ܬܐ ܥܡܢ ܢܟܡܢ ܠܕܡܐ ܘܢܛܫܐ ܠܙܟܝܐ ܒܥܬܐ
beth' lzky' wnTsh' ldm' nkmn emn th' lk n'mrwn w'n
If they say, “Come with us. Let’s lie in wait for blood. Let’s lurk secretly for the innocent without cause.

ܘܢܒܠܥܝܘܗܝ ܐܝܟ ܫܝܘܠ ܠܚܝܐ ܘܠܕܠܐ ܡܘܡ ܐܝܟ ܢܚ̈ܬܝ ܓܘܒܐ
gwb' nkhthy 'yk mwm wldl' lkhy' shywl 'yk wnbleywhy
Let’s swallow them up alive like Sheol, and whole, like those who go down into the pit.

ܟܠܗ ܥܘܬܪܗ ܘܐܝܩܪܗ ܢܫܟܚ ܘܢܡܠܐ ܒܬ̈ܝܢ ܒܙܬܐ
bzth' bthyn wnml' nshkkh w'yqrh ewthrh klh
We’ll find all valuable wealth. We’ll fill our houses with plunder.

ܦܨܬܟ ܐܪܡܐ ܒܝܢܬܢ ܘܟܝܣܐ ܚܕ ܢܗܘܐ ܠܟܠܢ
lkln nhw' khd wkys' bynthn 'rm' ptsthk
You shall cast your lot among us. We’ll all have one purse”—

ܒܪܝ ܠܐ ܬܐܙܠ ܥܡܗܘܢ ܒܐܘܪܚܐ ܐܠܐ ܟܠܝ ܪܓܠܟ ܡܢ ܫܒܝ̈ܠܝܗܘܢ
shbylyhwn mn rglk kly 'l' b'wrkh' emhwn th'zl l' bry
my son, don’t walk on the path with them. Keep your foot from their path,

ܡܛܠ ܕܪ̈ܓܠܝܗܘܢ ܠܒܝܫܬܐ ܗܘ ܪ̈ܗܛܢ ܘܡܣܬܪ̈ܗܒܝܢ ܠܡܐܫܕ ܕܡܐ ܙܟܝܐ
zky' dm' lm'shd wmsthrhbyn rhTn hw lbyshth' drglyhwn mTl
for their feet run to evil. They hurry to shed blood.

ܘܒܥܬܐ ܗܘ ܦܪ̈ܣܝܢ ܡܨܝ̈ܕܬܐ ܥܠ ܦܪܚܬܐ
prkhth' el mtsydth' prsyn hw wbeth'
For the net is spread in vain in the sight of any bird;

ܘܟܡܢܝܢ ܠܕܡܐ ܘܡܛܫܝܢ ܢܦܫ̈ܬܗܘܢ
npshthhwn wmTshyn ldm' wkmnyn
but these lay in wait for their own blood. They lurk secretly for their own lives.

ܗܟܢܐ ܐ̈ܢܝܢ ܐܘܪ̈ܚܬܐ ܕܟܠ ܕܥܒܕܝܢ ܥܘ̣ܠܐ ܘܢܣܒܝܢ ܢܦܫ̈ܬܐ ܕܡܪ̈ܝܗܝܢ
dmryhyn npshth' wnsbyn ewl' debdyn dkl 'wrkhth' 'nyn hkn'
So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain. It takes away the life of its owners.

ܚܟܡܬܐ ܒܫ̈ܘܩܐ ܡܫܬܒܚܐ ܘܒܫ̈ܘܩܐ ܡܪܝܡܐ ܩܠܗ̇
qlh mrym' wbshwq' mshthbkh' bshwq' khkmth'
Wisdom calls aloud in the street. She utters her voice in the public squares.

ܘܒܪܝܫ ܒܪ̈ܝܬܐ ܡܟܪܙܐ ܘܒܡ̈ܥܠܢܐ ܕܬܪ̈ܥܐ ܕܟܪ̈ܟܐ ܡ̈ܠܝܗ̇ ܐܡܪܐ
'mr' mlyh dkrk' dthre' wbmeln' mkrz' bryth' wbrysh
She calls at the head of noisy places. At the entrance of the city gates, she utters her words:

ܥܕܡܐ ܠܐܡܬܝ ܫܒܪ̈ܐ ܪ̈ܚܡܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܫܒܪܘܬܐ ܘܡܡ̈ܝܩܢܐ ܪ̈ܓܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܡܡܝܩܢܘܬܐ ܘܣܟ̈ܠܐ ܣܢܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܝܕܥܬܐ
ydeth' 'nthwn snyn wskl' mmyqnwth' 'nthwn rgyn wmmyqn' shbrwth' 'nthwn rkhmyn shbr' l'mthy edm'
“How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? How long will mockers delight themselves in mockery, and fools hate knowledge?

ܐܢ ܬܬܦܢܘܢ ܠܡܟܣܢܘܬܝ ܐܒܥ ܠܟܘܢ ܪܘܚܝ ܘܐܘܕܥܟܘܢ ܡܠܬܝ
mlthy w'wdekwn rwkhy lkwn 'be lmksnwthy ththpnwn 'n
Turn at my reproof. Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you. I will make known my words to you.

ܥܠ ܕܩܪܝܬ ܘܠܐ ܗܝܡܢܬܘܢ ܘܐܪܝܡܬ ܩܠܝ ܘܠܐ ܫܡܥܬܘܢ
shmethwn wl' qly w'rymth hymnthwn wl' dqryth el
Because I have called, and you have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one has paid attention;

ܘܫܛܬܘܢ ܟܠܗܝܢ ܬܪ̈ܥܝܬܝ ܘܒܡܟܣܢܘܬܝ ܠܐ ܨܒܝܬܘܢ
tsbythwn l' wbmksnwthy threythy klhyn wshTthwn
but you have ignored all my counsel, and wanted none of my reproof;

ܐܦ ܐܢܐ ܐܓܚܟ ܥܠ ܬܒܪܟܘܢ ܘܐܚܕܐ ܡܐ ܕܐܬ̇ܐ ܥܠܝܟܘܢ ܕܠܘܚܝܐ ܘܐܒܕܢܐ ܡܢ ܫܠܝܐ
shly' mn w'bdn' dlwkhy' elykwn d'th' m' w'khd' thbrkwn el 'gkhk 'n' 'p
I also will laugh at your disaster. I will mock when calamity overtakes you,

ܘܬܒܪܟܘܢ ܐܝܟ ܥܠܥܠܐ ܢܐܬܐ ܘܡܐ ܕܐܬ̣ܐ ܥܠܝܗܘܢ ܐܘܠܨܢܐ ܘܥܩܬܐ
weqth' 'wltsn' elyhwn d'th' wm' n'th' elel' 'yk wthbrkwn
when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come on you.

ܗܝܕܝܢ ܢܩܪܘܢܢܝ ܘܠܐ ܐܥܢܐ ܐܢܘܢ ܘܢܩܕܡܘܢ ܠܘܬܝ ܘܠܐ ܢܫܟܚܘܢܢܝ
nshkkhwnny wl' lwthy wnqdmwn 'nwn 'en' wl' nqrwnny hydyn
Then they will call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me,

ܥܠ ܕܣܢܘ ܝܕܥܬܐ ܘܕܚܠܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܠܐ ܓܒܘ
gbw l' dmry' wdkhlthh ydeth' dsnw el
because they hated knowledge, and didn’t choose the fear of Yahweh.

ܘܠܐ ܨܒܘ ܒܬܪ̈ܥܝܬܝ ܘܐܣܠܝܘ ܟܠܗ̇ ܡܟܣܢܘܬܝ
mksnwthy klh w'slyw bthreythy tsbw wl'
They wanted none of my counsel. They despised all my reproof.

ܘܐܟܠܘ ܡܢ ܦܐܪ̈ܐ ܕܐܘܪ̈ܚܬܗܘܢ ܘܡܢ ܬܪ̈ܥܝܬܗܘܢ ܣܒܥܘ
sbew threythhwn wmn d'wrkhthhwn p'r' mn w'klw
Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own schemes.

ܡܛܠ ܗܢܐ ܡܗܦܟܢܘܬܐ ܕܫܒܪ̈ܐ ܬܩܛܘܠ ܐܢܘܢ ܘܛܘܥܝܝ ܕܚܣܝܪ̈ܝ ܪܥܝܢܐ ܬܘܒܕ ܐܢܘܢ
'nwn thwbd reyn' dkhsyry wTweyy 'nwn thqTwl dshbr' mhpknwth' hn' mTl
For the backsliding of the simple will kill them. The careless ease of fools will destroy them.

ܘܡ̇ܢ ܕܫܡܥ ܠܝ ܢܫܪܐ ܒܣܒܪܐ ܘܢܫܠܐ ܡܢ ܣܘܓܐܐ ܕܒܝܫܬ̈ܐ
dbyshth' swg'' mn wnshl' bsbr' nshr' ly dshme wmn
But whoever listens to me will dwell securely, and will be at ease, without fear of harm.”
