טב מסכינא דמהלך בתמימותא מן הוא דמעקמן ארחתיה והוא סכל:
skl whwa arkhthyh dmeqmn hwa mn bthmymwtha dmhlk mskyna Tb
Better is the poor who walks in his integrity than he who is perverse in his lips and is a fool.

מן דלא ידיע נפשיה לא שפיר ליה ודקליל ברגלוי לבישתא חטיא הוא:
hwa khTya lbyshtha brglwy wdqlyl lyh shpyr la npshyh ydye dla mn
It isn’t good to have zeal without knowledge, nor being hasty with one’s feet and missing the way.

שטיותא דבר נשא מטלטלא ארחתיה ועל אלהא מתרעם לביה:
lbyh mthrem alha wel arkhthyh mTlTla nsha dbr shTywtha
The foolishness of man subverts his way; his heart rages against Yahweh.

מזלא מוסיף חברי סגיעי ומסכנא פריש חבריה מניה:
mnyh khbryh prysh wmskna sgyey khbry mwsyp mzla
Wealth adds many friends, but the poor is separated from his friend.

סהדא דשקרא לא נזדכי ודמועי כדבותא לא נתמלט:
nthmlT la kdbwtha wdmwey nzdky la dshqra shda
A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who pours out lies shall not go free.

סגיעי דמשמשין קדם רבא ודלבישין יהיב מוהבתא:
mwhbtha yhyb wdlbyshyn rba qdm dmshmshyn sgyey
Many will entreat the favor of a ruler, and everyone is a friend to a man who gives gifts.

כולהון רחמוי דמסכנא סנין ליה ואף חברוי רחקין מניה איכא דטרך במלוי לא שריר:
shryr la bmlwy dTrk ayka mnyh rkhqyn khbrwy wap lyh snyn dmskna rkhmwy kwlhwn
All the relatives of the poor shun him; how much more do his friends avoid him! He pursues them with pleas, but they are gone.

קני לבא טבא רחם נפשיה נטר ביונה משכח טבתא:
Tbtha mshkkh bywnh nTr npshyh rkhm Tba lba qny
He who gets wisdom loves his own soul. He who keeps understanding shall find good.

סהדא דשקרא לא נזדכא ודמועי כדבותא נאבד:
nabd kdbwtha wdmwey nzdka la dshqra shda
A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who utters lies shall perish.
10
לא יאי לסכלא פנוקא אף לא לעבדא דנשתלט ברברבנין:
brbrbnyn dnshthlT lebda la ap pnwqa lskla yay la
Delicate living is not appropriate for a fool, much less for a servant to have rule over princes.

שכליה דבר נשא נגידות אורחיה ושבהוריה דנעבר על חובא:
khwba el dnebr wshbhwryh awrkhyh ngydwth nsha dbr shklyh
The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger. It is his glory to overlook an offense.

נהם היך אריא זעפיה דמלכא והיך טלא על עסבא רעותיה:
rewthyh esba el Tla whyk dmlka zepyh arya hyk nhm
The king’s wrath is like the roaring of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass.

בר סכלא קשיה הוא לאבוי היך קרסי והיך דלפא דדלף תגרי דאתתא:
daththa thgry ddlp dlpa whyk qrsy hyk labwy hwa qshyh skla br
A foolish son is the calamity of his father. A wife’s quarrels are a continual dripping.

ביתא ומזלא וירותתא הוא דאבהן ומן אלהא מתמסרא אתתא לגברא:
lgbra aththa mthmsra alha wmn dabhn hwa wyrwththa wmzla bytha
House and riches are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from Yahweh.

עטלותא יהבא שנתא ונפשא רמיתא תכפן:
thkpn rmytha wnpsha shntha yhba eTlwtha
Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep. The idle soul shall suffer hunger.
16
דנטר פוקדנא נטר נפשיה ודמשיט אורחתיה ימות:
ymwth awrkhthyh wdmshyT npshyh nTr pwqdna dnTr
He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul, but he who is contemptuous in his ways shall die.
17
מן דבעי דנזיף לאלהא מתרחם על מסכנא ופורענותא טבתא משלם ליה:
lyh mshlm Tbtha wpwrenwtha mskna el mthrkhm lalha dnzyp dbey mn
He who has pity on the poor lends to Yahweh; he will reward him.
18
רדי ברך מטול דאית סכויא ולמיתותיה לא תרים נפשך:
npshk thrym la wlmythwthyh skwya dayth mTwl brk rdy
Discipline your son, for there is hope; don’t be a willing party to his death.

גברא חמתנא מקבל תכא וכמה דמתעלי על טועניה מוסיף:
mwsyp Twenyh el dmthely wkmh thka mqbl khmthna gbra
A hot-tempered man must pay the penalty, for if you rescue him, you must do it again.
20
שמע עצתא וקבל מרדותא מטול דתתחכם בסופך:
bswpk dththkhkm mTwl mrdwtha wqbl etstha shme
Listen to counsel and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter end.
21
סגיען מחשבתא בלביה דגברא ועצתא דאלהא היא תקום:
thqwm hya dalha wetstha dgbra blbyh mkhshbtha sgyen
There are many plans in a man’s heart, but Yahweh’s counsel will prevail.
22
רגתיה דבר נשא חסדיה וטב מסכנא מן גברא כדבא:
kdba gbra mn mskna wTb khsdyh nsha dbr rgthyh
That which makes a man to be desired is his kindness. A poor man is better than a liar.

דחלתיה דאלהא לחיי ומן דשביע מניה נבות ולא נפקוד בישתא:
byshtha npqwd wla nbwth mnyh dshbye wmn lkhyy dalha dkhlthyh
The fear of Yahweh leads to life, then contentment; he rests and will not be touched by trouble.
24
עטלא דמטשי ידיה בשחתיה אף לא לפומיה מקרב ליה:
lyh mqrb lpwmyh la ap bshkhthyh ydyh dmTshy eTla
The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; he will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
25
לממקנא תמחי ושברא מתערם ואכיס לסוכלתן דנתביין ידיעתא:
ydyetha dnthbyyn lswklthn wakys mtherm wshbra thmkhy lmmqna
Flog a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; rebuke one who has understanding, and he will gain knowledge.

דביז לאבוי ומעריק לאמיה ברא הוא מבהתנא ומחפרנא:
wmkhprna mbhthna hwa bra lamyh wmeryq labwy dbyz
He who robs his father and drives away his mother is a son who causes shame and brings reproach.
27
פרש ברי ושמע מרדותא ולא תשגא מן מאמרי דפומי:
dpwmy mamry mn thshga wla mrdwtha wshme bry prsh
If you stop listening to instruction, my son, you will stray from the words of knowledge.

סהדא רגלאה ממיק בדיניה ופומהון דרשיעי מפיק עאתא:
eatha mpyq drshyey wpwmhwn bdynyh mmyq rglah shda
A corrupt witness mocks justice, and the mouth of the wicked gulps down iniquity.
