טבא היא לחמא שרבתא ושלותא בה מן ביתא דמלי דבחי דדינא:
ddyna dbkhy dmly bytha mn bh wshlwtha shrbtha lkhma hya Tba
Better is a dry morsel with quietness, than a house full of feasting with strife.

עבדא סוכלתנא ישתלט בברא מבהתנא ובינת אחי נפלג ירותתא:
yrwththa nplg akhy wbynth mbhthna bbra yshthlT swklthna ebda
A servant who deals wisely will rule over a son who causes shame, and shall have a part in the inheritance among the brothers.

צרפא נקי לסאמא וכורא לדהבא ואלהא בדיק לביא:
lbya bdyq walha ldhba wkwra lsama nqy tsrpa
The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, but Yahweh tests the hearts.

גברא בישא צית לספותא דעאתא שקרא ורגלותא על לישנא דעאתא:
deatha lyshna el wrglwtha shqra deatha lspwtha tsyth bysha gbra
An evildoer heeds wicked lips. A liar gives ear to a mischievous tongue.

דמצדי למסכנא מרגז לבריה ודחדי לתברא דחבריה לא מזדכי:
mzdky la dkhbryh lthbra wdkhdy lbryh mrgz lmskna dmtsdy
Whoever mocks the poor reproaches his Maker. He who is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.

כלילא דסבי בני בניא ושבהורהון דבניא אבהתהון:
abhthhwn dbnya wshbhwrhwn bnya bny dsby klyla
Children’s children are the crown of old men; the glory of children is their parents.

לא יאי לטפשא שפתא יתירתא אף לא לשליטא שפתא דשקרא:
dshqra shptha lshlyTa la ap ythyrtha shptha lTpsha yay la
Excellent speech isn’t fitting for a fool, much less do lying lips fit a prince.

כיפא דשוחדא חסידא היא באפי מאן דשקל לה לכל אתר דמתפני שכולא:
shkwla dmthpny athr lkl lh dshql man bapy hya khsyda dshwkhda kypa
A bribe is a precious stone in the eyes of him who gives it; wherever he turns, he prospers.

דמכסי חובה בעי רחמותא ודשני מלתא מפרק רחמא:
rkhma mprq mltha wdshny rkhmwtha bey khwbh dmksy
He who covers an offense promotes love; but he who repeats a matter separates best friends.

עלא בעתא במן דמתבין טב מן דלממחי לסכלא מאה חוטרין:
khwTryn mah lskla dlmmkhy mn Tb dmthbyn bmn betha ela
A rebuke enters deeper into one who has understanding than a hundred lashes into a fool.

ברם גברא מרידא בעי בישתא ומלאכא נוכזריא ישתדר עליה:
elyh yshthdr nwkzrya wmlaka byshtha bey mryda gbra brm
An evil man seeks only rebellion; therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.

פגיע דוב ורתיתא בגברא חכימא לא מתזיע וסכלא בשטיותיה נפל:
npl bshTywthyh wskla mthzye la khkyma bgbra wrthytha dwb pgye
Let a bear robbed of her cubs meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.

דפריע בישתא חלף טבתא לא תפסוק בישתא מן ביתיה:
bythyh mn byshtha thpswq la Tbtha khlp byshtha dprye
Whoever rewards evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.

אשד דמא היך מיא מגרי תגרי וקדם אצטדיא אטעי דינא:
dyna aTey atsTdya wqdm thgry mgry mya hyk dma ashd
The beginning of strife is like breaching a dam, therefore stop contention before quarreling breaks out.

דמזכי לרשיעא ומחיב לצדיקא מרחקתיה דאלהא אף תרויהון:
thrwyhwn ap dalha mrkhqthyh ltsdyqa wmkhyb lrshyea dmzky
He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the righteous, both of them alike are an abomination to Yahweh.

למא דין אזלא ליה תגרותא לסכלא דלית ליה לבא וחכמתא:
wkhkmtha lba lyh dlyth lskla thgrwtha lyh azla dyn lma
Why is there money in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, since he has no understanding?

בכל עדן גברא רחים הוא ואחא לעקתא מתיליד:
mthylyd leqtha wakha hwa rkhym gbra edn bkl
A friend loves at all times; and a brother is born for adversity.

בר נש חסיר רעינא משלם ידיה וערב ערבותא על חבריה:
khbryh el erbwtha werb ydyh mshlm reyna khsyr nsh br
A man void of understanding strikes hands, and becomes collateral in the presence of his neighbor.

דרחם חובא רחם מצותא ומרים תרעיה בעי תברא:
thbra bey threyh wmrym mtswtha rkhm khwba drkhm
He who loves disobedience loves strife. One who builds a high gate seeks destruction.
20
מן דעקים לביה לא משכח טבתא ודמתהפך בלשניה נפל בבישתא:
bbyshtha npl blshnyh wdmthhpk Tbtha mshkkh la lbyh deqym mn
One who has a perverse heart doesn’t find prosperity, and one who has a deceitful tongue falls into trouble.

דמוליד סכלא חמוצא דיליה ולא חדי אבוי דטפשא:
dTpsha abwy khdy wla dylyh khmwtsa skla dmwlyd
He who becomes the father of a fool grieves. The father of a fool has no joy.

לבא חדיא משפיר גופא ורוחא רכיכתא מיבשא גרמא:
grma mybsha rkyktha wrwkha gwpa mshpyr khdya lba
A cheerful heart makes good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

שוחדא מן עובא יסב רשיעא למצלי ארחא דדינא:
ddyna arkha lmtsly rshyea ysb ewba mn shwkhda
A wicked man receives a bribe in secret, to pervert the ways of justice.
24
אפוי דסוכלתנא חדין בחכמתא ועינוי דסכלא בעומקא דארעא:
darea bewmqa dskla weynwy bkhkmtha khdyn dswklthna apwy
Wisdom is before the face of one who has understanding, but the eyes of a fool wander to the ends of the earth.

ברא סכלא מכביד אבוי וממרמיר לאמיה:
lamyh wmmrmyr abwy mkbyd skla bra
A foolish son brings grief to his father, and bitterness to her who bore him.

למתך לצדיקא לא שפיר אף לא לממחי צדיקיא דאמרין תריצותא:
thrytswtha damryn tsdyqya lmmkhy la ap shpyr la ltsdyqa lmthk
Also to punish the righteous is not good, nor to flog officials for their integrity.
27
דחשך מלוי ידיע ידיעתא ודמכיכא רוחיה גברא דמתבין:
dmthbyn gbra rwkhyh wdmkyka ydyetha ydye mlwy dkhshk
He who spares his words has knowledge. He who is even tempered is a man of understanding.
