מלתא רככתא מהפכא חמתא ומלתא דעזיזא מסקא רוגזא:
rwgza msqa dezyza wmltha khmtha mhpka rkktha mltha
A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

לישנא דחכימי משפר ידיעתא ופומהון דסכלי נביע שטיותא:
shTywtha nbye dskly wpwmhwn ydyetha mshpr dkhkymy lyshna
The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouths of fools gush out folly.

בכל אתר עינוי דיי חמין בבישי ובטבי:
wbTby bbyshy khmyn dyy eynwy athr bkl
Yahweh’s eyes are everywhere, keeping watch on the evil and the good.

אסיותא דלישנא אילנא דחיי הוא ודאכל מן פרוהי נשבע:
nshbe prwhy mn wdakl hwa dkhyy aylna dlyshna asywtha
A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but deceit in it crushes the spirit.

שטיא מסלי מרדותא דאבוי ודמזדהר במכסנותא ערימא הוא:
hwa eryma bmksnwtha wdmzdhr dabwy mrdwtha msly shTya
A fool despises his father’s correction, but he who heeds reproof shows prudence.

בביתא דצדיקי סגי חילא ועללתהון דרשיעי תתעכר:
ththekr drshyey wellthhwn khyla sgy dtsdyqy bbytha
In the house of the righteous is much treasure, but the income of the wicked brings trouble.

שפותיה דחכימי מודעין מנדעא ולבהון דסכלי לא כן:
kn la dskly wlbhwn mndea mwdeyn dkhkymy shpwthyh
The lips of the wise spread knowledge; not so with the heart of fools.

דבחהון דרשיעי מרחקתיה דאלהא ובצלותהון דתריצי מתרעי:
mthrey dthrytsy wbtslwthhwn dalha mrkhqthyh drshyey dbkhhwn
The sacrifice made by the wicked is an abomination to Yahweh, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

מרחק אלהא אורחיה דרשיעא ודרדף צדקתא נתרחם:
nthrkhm tsdqtha wdrdp drshyea awrkhyh alha mrkhq
The way of the wicked is an abomination to Yahweh, but he loves him who follows after righteousness.

מרדותא דבישא מטעיא אורחיה ומן דסני מכסנותא ימות:
ymwth mksnwtha dsny wmn awrkhyh mTeya dbysha mrdwtha
There is stern discipline for one who forsakes the way. Whoever hates reproof shall die.

שיול ואובדנא קדם אלהא אף לבי בר נשא:
nsha br lby ap alha qdm wawbdna shywl
Sheol and Abaddon are before Yahweh— how much more then the hearts of the children of men!

לא רחם ממיקנא למן דמכסן ליה ולות חכימי לא אזל:
azl la khkymy wlwth lyh dmksn lmn mmyqna rkhm la
A scoffer doesn’t love to be reproved; he will not go to the wise.

לבא חדיא משפיר אפי ובכיבא דלבא רוחא ממכתא:
mmktha rwkha dlba wbkyba apy mshpyr khdya lba
A glad heart makes a cheerful face, but an aching heart breaks the spirit.

לבא דמתבין בעי ידיעתא ופומהון דסכלי שטיותא:
shTywtha dskly wpwmhwn ydyetha bey dmthbyn lba
The heart of one who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouths of fools feed on folly.

כל יומי דמסכנא בישין ומן דטב לביה משקיא תדירא:
thdyra mshqya lbyh dTb wmn byshyn dmskna ywmy kl
All the days of the afflicted are wretched, but one who has a cheerful heart enjoys a continual feast.

טב קליל בדחלתיה דאלהא מן סימתא רברבתא ועאתא בהן:
bhn weatha rbrbtha symtha mn dalha bdkhlthyh qlyl Tb
Better is little, with the fear of Yahweh, than great treasure with trouble.

טבא שרותא דירקא ורחמותא תמן מן תורי מפטמי בסגיאתא:
bsgyatha mpTmy thwry mn thmn wrkhmwtha dyrqa shrwtha Tba
Better is a dinner of herbs, where love is, than a fattened calf with hatred.

גברא חמתנא מגרא תגרא ונגיד רוחא מדעך חרתא:
khrtha mdek rwkha wngyd thgra mgra khmthna gbra
A wrathful man stirs up contention, but one who is slow to anger appeases strife.

אורחיהון דעטלי קרצובי וכובי ואורחא דתאיצי שפיא:
shpya dthaytsy wawrkha wkwby qrtswby deTly awrkhyhwn
The way of the sluggard is like a thorn patch, but the path of the upright is a highway.

ברא חכימא יחדי לאבוי וברא סכלא משיט אמיה:
amyh mshyT skla wbra labwy ykhdy khkyma bra
A wise son makes a father glad, but a foolish man despises his mother.

שטיותא חדותא היא לחסיר לבא וגברא דמתבין תריצות מהלך:
mhlk thrytswth dmthbyn wgbra lba lkhsyr hya khdwtha shTywtha
Folly is joy to one who is void of wisdom, but a man of understanding keeps his way straight.
22
בטולא דמחשבתא היך דלית רזא ובסוגעא דאלין דמתמלכין עצתא תקום:
thqwm etstha dmthmlkyn dalyn wbswgea rza dlyth hyk dmkhshbtha bTwla
Where there is no counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established.

חדותא לגברא במלתא דפומיה ומלתא בעדנא סגו טבא:
Tba sgw bedna wmltha dpwmyh bmltha lgbra khdwtha
Joy comes to a man with the reply of his mouth. How good is a word at the right time!

ארחא דחיי מעליא לסוכלתנא דנסטא מן שיול תחתיתא:
thkhthytha shywl mn dnsTa lswklthna melya dkhyy arkha
The path of life leads upward for the wise, to keep him from going downward to Sheol.
25
ביתא דגיותנא נסתר אלהא ויעתד תחומא דארמלתא:
darmltha thkhwma wyethd alha nsthr dgywthna bytha
Yahweh will uproot the house of the proud, but he will keep the widow’s borders intact.

מרחקתיה דאלהא מחשבתא דבישתא ודכין מלי בסימתא:
bsymtha mly wdkyn dbyshtha mkhshbtha dalha mrkhqthyh
Yahweh detests the thoughts of the wicked, but the thoughts of the pure are pleasing.
27
מוביד ביתיה מכנש ממון דשקר ודסני מוהביתא דמגן יחי:
ykhy dmgn mwhbytha wdsny dshqr mmwn mknsh bythyh mwbyd
He who is greedy for gain troubles his own house, but he who hates bribes will live.

לבא דצדיקא רנן בהימנותא ופומהון דרשיעי מביע בשתא:
bshtha mbye drshyey wpwmhwn bhymnwtha rnn dtsdyqa lba
The heart of the righteous weighs answers, but the mouth of the wicked gushes out evil.

רחיק הוא אלהא מרשיעי וצלותהון דצדיקי ישמע:
yshme dtsdyqy wtslwthhwn mrshyey alha hwa rkhyq
Yahweh is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous.
30
נהורא דעיני מחרי לבא שומעתא טבא מדהנא גרמא:
grma mdhna Tba shwmetha lba mkhry deyny nhwra
The light of the eyes rejoices the heart. Good news gives health to the bones.
31
אודנא דשמעא מכסנותא דחיי בינת דחכימי תבות:
thbwth dkhkymy bynth dkhyy mksnwtha dshmea awdna
The ear that listens to reproof lives, and will be at home among the wise.
32
מריש מרדותא מסלי נפשיה ודשמיע מכסנותא דחיי קני חוכמתא:
khwkmtha qny dkhyy mksnwtha wdshmye npshyh msly mrdwtha mrysh
He who refuses correction despises his own soul, but he who listens to reproof gets understanding.
