ܚܙܘܐ ܕܥܘܒܕܝܐ ܗܟܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܡܪܐ ܡܪ̈ܘܬܐ ܠܐܕܘܡ ܛܒܐ ܫܡܥܢ ܡܢ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܐܝܙܓܕܐ ܠܥܡ̈ܡܐ ܐܫܬܠܚ ܩܘܡܘ ܘܢܩܘܡ ܥܠܝܗ̇ ܠܩܪܒܐ

The vision of Obadiah. This is what the Lord Yahweh says about Edom. We have heard news from Yahweh, and an ambassador is sent among the nations, saying, “Arise, and let’s rise up against her in battle.

ܗܐ ܙܥܘܪܐ ܝܗܒܬܟ ܒܥܡ̈ܡܐ ܘܫܝܛ ܐܢܬ ܛܒ

Behold, I have made you small among the nations. You are greatly despised.

ܫܘܒܗܪܗ ܕܠܒܟ ܐܛܥܝܟ ܕܥܡܪ ܒܥܘܫܢܐ ܕܫܩܝܦܐ ܘܒܪܘܡܐ ܡܘܬܒܗ ܘܐܡܪ ܒܠܒܗ ܡܢܘ ܢܚܬܢܝ ܠܐܪܥܐ

The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high, who says in his heart, ‘Who will bring me down to the ground?’

ܐܢ ܬܬܪܝܡ ܐܝܟ ܢܫܪܐ ܘܐܢ ܒܝܬ ܟܘ̈ܟܒܐ ܬܣܝܡ ܩܢܟ ܡܢ ܬܡܢ ܐܚܬܟ ܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ
'n ththrym 'yk nshr' w'n byth kwkb' thsym qnk mn thmn 'khthk 'mr mry'
Though you mount on high as the eagle, and though your nest is set among the stars, I will bring you down from there,” says Yahweh.

ܐܢ ܓܢ̈ܒܐ ܐܬܘ ܥܠܝܟ ܐܘ ܒܙܘ̈ܙܐ ܒܠܠܝܐ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܫܬܩܬ ܥܕܡܐ ܕܓܢܒܘ ܡܣܬܗܘܢ ܘܐܢ ܩ̈ܛܘܦܐ ܐܬܘ ܥܠܝܟ ܠܐ ܫܒܩܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܒܘܥܪܐ

“If thieves came to you, if robbers by night—oh, what disaster awaits you—wouldn’t they only steal until they had enough? If grape pickers came to you, wouldn’t they leave some gleaning grapes?

ܐܝܟܢܐ ܐܬܒܨܝ ܥܣܘ ܘܢܒܥ ܡܛܫܝ̈ܬܗ

How Esau will be ransacked! How his hidden treasures are sought out!

ܥܕܡܐ ܠܬܚܘܡܐ ܫܕܪܘܟ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܕܩܝܡܟ ܐܛܥܝܘܟ ܘܐܬܡܨܝܘ ܚܝܠܟ ܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܕܫܠܡܟ ܘܕܠܚܡܟ ܣܡܘ ܟܡܐܢܐ ܬܚܘܬܝܟ ܕܠܝܬ ܒܗ ܣܘܟܠܐ

All the men of your alliance have brought you on your way, even to the border. The men who were at peace with you have deceived you, and prevailed against you. Friends who eat your bread lay a snare under you. There is no understanding in him.”

ܒܗ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܗ̇ܘ ܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܘܒܕ ܚܟܝܡܐ ܡܢ ܐܕܘܡ ܘܣܟܘܠܬܢܐ ܡܢ ܛܘܪܐ ܕܥܣܘ

“Won’t I in that day”, says Yahweh, “destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mountain of Esau?

ܘܢܬܒܙܘܢ ܓܢܒܪ̈ܝܟܝ ܬܝܡܢ ܘܢܐܒܕ ܐܢܫܐ ܡܢ ܛܘܪܐ ܕܥܣܘ ܡܢ ܩܛܠܐ
wnthbzwn gnbryky thymn wn'bd 'nsh' mn Twr' desw mn qTl'
Your mighty men, Teman, will be dismayed, to the end that everyone may be cut off from the mountain of Esau by slaughter.

ܘܡܢ ܚܛܘܦܝܐ ܕܐܚܘܟ ܝܥܩܘܒ ܬܟܣܝܟ ܒܗܬܬܐ ܘܬܐܒܕ ܠܥܠܡ
wmn khTwpy' d'khwk yeqwb thksyk bhthth' wth'bd lelm
For the violence done to your brother Jacob, shame will cover you, and you will be cut off forever.

ܒܝܘܡܐ ܕܩܡܬ ܠܩܘܒܠܗ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܕܫܒܘ ܢܘܟܪ̈ܝܐ ܚܝܠܗ ܘܢܘܟܪ̈ܝܐ ܥܠܘ ܒܬܪ̈ܥܘܗܝ ܘܥܠ ܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܐܪܡܝܘ ܦܨ̈ܐ ܘܐܦ ܐܢܬ ܐܝܟ ܚܕ ܡܢܗܘܢ ܬܗܘܐ
bywm' dqmth lqwblh bywm' dshbw nwkry' khylh wnwkry' elw bthrewhy wel 'wrshlm 'rmyw pts' w'p 'nth 'yk khd mnhwn thhw'
In the day that you stood on the other side, in the day that strangers carried away his substance and foreigners entered into his gates and cast lots for Jerusalem, even you were like one of them.

ܘܠܐ ܬܚܙܐ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܕܐܚܘܟ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܕܢܘܟܪ̈ܝܐ ܘܠܐ ܬܚܕܐ ܠܒܢ̈ܝ ܝܗܘܕܐ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܕܐܒܕܢܗܘܢ ܘܠܐ ܬܘܪܒ ܦܘܡܟ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܕܐܘܠܨܢܐ
wl' thkhz' bywm' d'khwk bywm' dnwkry' wl' thkhd' lbny yhwd' bywm' d'bdnhwn wl' thwrb pwmk bywm' d'wltsn'
But don’t look down on your brother in the day of his disaster, and don’t rejoice over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction. Don’t speak proudly in the day of distress.

ܘܠܐ ܬܥܘܠ ܒܬܪܥܗ ܕܥܡܝ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܕܥܩܬܗܘܢ ܘܠܐ ܬܚܕܐ ܐܦ ܐܢܬ ܒܒܝܫܬܗ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܕܥܩܬܗ ܘܠܐ ܬܣܪܕܝܘܗܝ ܒܚܝܠܗ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܕܥܩܬܗ
wl' thewl bthreh demy bywm' deqthhwn wl' thkhd' 'p 'nth bbyshthh bywm' deqthh wl' thsrdywhy bkhylh bywm' deqthh
Don’t enter into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity. Don’t look down on their affliction in the day of their calamity, neither seize their wealth on the day of their calamity.

ܘܠܐ ܬܩܘܡ ܥܠ ܡܩܒܬܐ ܠܡܘܒܕܘ ܠܡܫ̈ܘܙܒܘܗܝ ܘܠܐ ܬܫܠܡ ܣܪ̈ܝܕܘܗܝ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܕܐܘܠܨܢܐ
wl' thqwm el mqbth' lmwbdw lmshwzbwhy wl' thshlm srydwhy bywm' d'wltsn'
Don’t stand in the crossroads to cut off those of his who escape. Don’t deliver up those of his who remain in the day of distress.

ܡܛܠ ܕܩܪܝܒ ܗܘ ܝܘܡܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܥܠ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܥܡ̈ܡܐ ܐܝܟ ܕܥܒܕܬ ܗܟܢܐ ܢܬܥܒܕ ܠܟ ܘܦܘܪܥܢܟ ܢܗܦܘܟ ܥܠ ܪܝܫܟ
mTl dqryb hw ywmh dmry' el klhwn emm' 'yk debdth hkn' nthebd lk wpwrenk nhpwk el ryshk
For the day of Yahweh is near all the nations! As you have done, it will be done to you. Your deeds will return upon your own head.

ܡܛܠ ܕܐܝܟܢܐ ܕܐܫܬܝܬܘܢ ܥܠ ܛܘܪܐ ܕܩܘܕܫܝ ܢܫܬܘܢ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܥܡ̈ܡܐ ܐܡܝܢܐܝܬ ܢܫܬܘܢ ܘܢܬܘܪܘܢ ܘܢܬܛܪܦܘܢ ܘܢܗܘܘܢ ܐܝܟ ܕܠܐ ܗܘܘ
mTl d'ykn' d'shthythwn el Twr' dqwdshy nshthwn klhwn emm' 'myn'yth nshthwn wnthwrwn wnthTrpwn wnhwwn 'yk dl' hww
For as you have drunk on my holy mountain, so all the nations will drink continually. Yes, they will drink, swallow down, and will be as though they had not been.

ܘܒܛܘܪܐ ܕܨܗܝܘܢ ܬܗܘܐ ܡܫܘܙܒܘܬܐ ܘܢܗܘܐ ܩܕܝܫ ܘܢܐܪܬܘܢ ܕܒܝܬ ܝܥܩܘܒ ܠܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܝܪܬܘ ܐܢܘܢ
wbTwr' dtshywn thhw' mshwzbwth' wnhw' qdysh wn'rthwn dbyth yeqwb l'ylyn dyrthw 'nwn
But in Mount Zion, there will be those who escape, and it will be holy. The house of Jacob will possess their possessions.

ܘܢܗܘܐ ܒܝܬ ܝܥܩܘܒ ܢܘܪܐ ܘܒܝܬ ܝܘܣܦ ܫܠܗܒܝܬܐ ܘܒܝܬ ܥܣܘ ܚܒܬܐ ܘܢܐܩܕܘܢ ܒܗܘܢ ܘܢܐܟܠܘܢ ܐܢܘܢ ܘܠܐ ܢܗܘܐ ܣܪܝܕܐ ܠܒܝܬܐ ܕܥܣܘ ܡܛܠ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܡܠܠ
wnhw' byth yeqwb nwr' wbyth ywsp shlhbyth' wbyth esw khbth' wn'qdwn bhwn wn'klwn 'nwn wl' nhw' sryd' lbyth' desw mTl dmry' mll
The house of Jacob will be a fire, the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble. They will burn among them and devour them. There will not be any remaining to the house of Esau.” Indeed, Yahweh has spoken.

ܘܢܐܪܬܘܢ ܕܬܝܡܢܐ ܠܛܘܪܐ ܕܥܣܘ ܘܕܦܩܥܬܐ ܠܦ̈ܠܫܬܝܐ ܘܢܐܪܬܘܢ ܚܩܠܐ ܕܐܦܪܝܡ ܘܚܩܠܐ ܕܫܡܪܝܢ ܘܒܢܝܡܝܢ ܠܓܠܥܕ
wn'rthwn dthymn' lTwr' desw wdpqeth' lplshthy' wn'rthwn khql' d'prym wkhql' dshmryn wbnymyn lgled
Those of the South will possess the mountain of Esau, and those of the lowland, the Philistines. They will possess the field of Ephraim, and the field of Samaria. Benjamin will possess Gilead.

ܘܫܒܝܬܐ ܩܕܡܝܬܐ ܗܕܐ ܠܒܢ̈ܝ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܕܡܢ ܟܢܥܢ ܘܥܕܡܐ ܠܨܪܦܬ ܘܫܒܝܬܐ ܕܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܕܒܐܣܦܢܝܐ ܢܐܪܬܘܢ ܠܡܕܝ̈ܢܬܐ ܕܬܝܡܢܐ
wshbyth' qdmyth' hd' lbny 'ysryl dmn knen wedm' ltsrpth wshbyth' d'wrshlm db'spny' n'rthwn lmdynth' dthymn'
The captives of this army of the children of Israel, who are among the Canaanites, will possess even to Zarephath; and the captives of Jerusalem, who are in Sepharad, will possess the cities of the Negev.

Saviors will go up on Mount Zion to judge the mountains of Esau, and the kingdom will be Yahweh’s.
