ובעיר סגי הוה לבני ראובן ולבני גד תקיף לחדא וחזו ית ארע יעזר וית ארע גלעד והא אתרא אתר כשר לבית בעיר:

Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of livestock. They saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead. Behold, the place was a place for livestock.

ואתו בני גד ובני ראובן ואמרו למשה ולאלעזר כהנא ולרברבי כנשתא למימר:
wathw bny gd wbny rawbn wamrw lmshh wlalezr khna wlrbrby knshtha lmymr
Then the children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spoke to Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and to the princes of the congregation, saying,

מכללתא ומלבשתא וכומרין ובית נמרין ובית חושבנא ובעלי דבבא וכימא וסיעת בית קברתא דמשה ובעון:
mklltha wmlbshtha wkwmryn wbyth nmryn wbyth khwshbna wbely dbba wkyma wsyeth byth qbrtha dmshh wbewn
“Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo, and Beon,

ארעא די מחא יי ית יתבהא קדם כנשתא דישראל ארע כשרא לבית בעיר היא ולעבדיך אית בעיר:
area dy mkha yy yth ythbha qdm knshtha dyshral are kshra lbyth beyr hya wlebdyk ayth beyr
the land which Yahweh struck before the congregation of Israel, is a land for livestock; and your servants have livestock.”

ואמרו אם אשכחנא רחמין בעיניך תתיהיב ית ארעא הדא לעבדיך לאחסנא לא תעברננא ית ירדנא:
wamrw am ashkkhna rkhmyn beynyk ththyhyb yth area hda lebdyk lakhsna la thebrnna yth yrdna
They said, “If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants for a possession. Don’t bring us over the Jordan.”

ואמר משה לבני גד ולבני ראובן האחיכון יעלון לקרבא ואתון תיתבון הכא:
wamr mshh lbny gd wlbny rawbn hakhykwn yelwn lqrba wathwn thythbwn hka
Moses said to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, “Shall your brothers go to war while you sit here?

ולמא תונון ית לבא דבני ישראל מלמעבר לארעא דיהב להון יי:
wlma thwnwn yth lba dbny yshral mlmebr larea dyhb lhwn yy
Why do you discourage the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which Yahweh has given them?

כדין עבדו אבהתכון כד שלחית יתהון מרקם גיאה למחזי ית ארעא:
kdyn ebdw abhthkwn kd shlkhyth ythhwn mrqm gyah lmkhzy yth area
Your fathers did so when I sent them from Kadesh Barnea to see the land.

וסליקו עד נחלא דאתכלא וחזו ית ארעא ואוניאו ית לבא דבני ישראל בדיל דלא למעל לארעא דיהב להון יי:
wslyqw ed nkhla dathkla wkhzw yth area wawnyaw yth lba dbny yshral bdyl dla lmel larea dyhb lhwn yy
For when they went up to the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which Yahweh had given them.

ותקף רוגזא דיי ביומא ההוא וקיים למימר:
wthqp rwgza dyy bywma hhwa wqyym lmymr
Yahweh’s anger burned in that day, and he swore, saying,

אם יחזון גבריא דסליקו ממצרים מבר עשרין שנין ולעלא ית ארעא די קימית לאברהם ליצחק וליעקב ארי לא אשלימו בתר דחלתי:
am ykhzwn gbrya dslyqw mmtsrym mbr eshryn shnyn wlela yth area dy qymyth labrhm lytskhq wlyeqb ary la ashlymw bthr dkhlthy
‘Surely none of the men who came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me,

אלהן כלב בר יפנה קנזאה ויהושע בר נון ארי אשלימו בתר דחלתא דיי:
alhn klb br ypnh qnzah wyhwshe br nwn ary ashlymw bthr dkhltha dyy
except Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, and Joshua the son of Nun, because they have followed Yahweh completely.’

ותקף רוגזא דיי בישראל וטרדנון במדברא ארבעין שנין עד דסף כל דרא דעביד דביש קדם יי:
wthqp rwgza dyy byshral wTrdnwn bmdbra arbeyn shnyn ed dsp kl dra debyd dbysh qdm yy
Yahweh’s anger burned against Israel, and he made them wander back and forth in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation who had done evil in Yahweh’s sight was consumed.

והא קמתון חלף אבהתכון תלמידי גבריא חיביא לאוספא עוד על תקוף רוגזא דיי לישראל:
wha qmthwn khlp abhthkwn thlmydy gbrya khybya lawspa ewd el thqwp rwgza dyy lyshral
“Behold, you have risen up in your fathers’ place, an increase of sinful men, to increase the fierce anger of Yahweh toward Israel.

ארי תתובון מבתר דחלתיה ויוסף עוד לאחרותהון במדברא ותחבלון לכל עמא הדין:
ary ththwbwn mbthr dkhlthyh wywsp ewd lakhrwthhwn bmdbra wthkhblwn lkl ema hdyn
For if you turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and you will destroy all these people.”

וקריבו לותיה ואמרו חטרין דען נבני לבעירנא הכא וקרוין לטפלנא:
wqrybw lwthyh wamrw khTryn den nbny lbeyrna hka wqrwyn lTplna
They came near to him, and said, “We will build sheepfolds here for our livestock, and cities for our little ones;

ואנחנא נזדרז מבעין קדם בני ישראל עד די נעלנון לאתריהון ויתבון טפלנא בקרוין כריכין מן קדם יתבי ארעא:
wankhna nzdrz mbeyn qdm bny yshral ed dy nelnwn lathryhwn wythbwn Tplna bqrwyn krykyn mn qdm ythby area
but we ourselves will be ready armed to go before the children of Israel, until we have brought them to their place. Our little ones shall dwell in the fortified cities because of the inhabitants of the land.

לא נתוב לביתנא עד דיחסנון בני ישראל גבר אחסנתיה:
la nthwb lbythna ed dykhsnwn bny yshral gbr akhsnthyh
We will not return to our houses until the children of Israel have all received their inheritance.
19
ארי לא נחסין עמהון מעברא לירדנא ולהלא ארי קבלנא אחסנתנא לנא מעברא לירדנא מדינחא:
ary la nkhsyn emhwn mebra lyrdna wlhla ary qblna akhsnthna lna mebra lyrdna mdynkha
For we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan and beyond, because our inheritance has come to us on this side of the Jordan eastward.”

ואמר להון משה אם תעבדון ית פתגמא הדין אם תזדרזון קדם עמא דיי לקרבא:
wamr lhwn mshh am thebdwn yth pthgma hdyn am thzdrzwn qdm ema dyy lqrba
Moses said to them: “If you will do this thing, if you will arm yourselves to go before Yahweh to the war,

ויעבר לכון כל דמזרז ית ירדנא קדם עמא דיי עד דיתרך ית בעלי דבבוהי מן קדמוהי:
wyebr lkwn kl dmzrz yth yrdna qdm ema dyy ed dythrk yth bely dbbwhy mn qdmwhy
and every one of your armed men will pass over the Jordan before Yahweh until he has driven out his enemies from before him,

ותתכבש ארעא קדם עמא דיי ובתר כן תתובון ותהון זכאין מן קדם יי ומישראל ותהי ארעא הדא לכון לאחסנא קדם יי:
wththkbsh area qdm ema dyy wbthr kn ththwbwn wthhwn zkayn mn qdm yy wmyshral wthhy area hda lkwn lakhsna qdm yy
and the land is subdued before Yahweh; then afterward you shall return, and be clear of obligation to Yahweh and to Israel. Then this land shall be your possession before Yahweh.
23
ואם לא תעבדון כן הא חבתון קדם יי ותדעון חובתכון די תשכח יתכון:
wam la thebdwn kn ha khbthwn qdm yy wthdewn khwbthkwn dy thshkkh ythkwn
“But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against Yahweh; and be sure your sin will find you out.

בנו לכון קרוין לטפלכון וחטרין לענכון ודיפוק מפומכון תעבדון:
bnw lkwn qrwyn lTplkwn wkhTryn lenkwn wdypwq mpwmkwn thebdwn
Build cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do that which has proceeded out of your mouth.”
25
ואמרו בני גד ובני ראובן למשה למימר עבדיך יעבדון כמא די רבוני מפקד:
wamrw bny gd wbny rawbn lmshh lmymr ebdyk yebdwn kma dy rbwny mpqd
The children of Gad and the children of Reuben spoke to Moses, saying, “Your servants will do as my lord commands.
26
טפלנא נשנא גיתנא וכל בעירנא יהון תמן בקרוי גלעד:
Tplna nshna gythna wkl beyrna yhwn thmn bqrwy gled
Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our livestock shall be there in the cities of Gilead;
27
ועבדיך יעברון כל דמזרז חילא קדם עמא דיי לקרבא כמא די רבוני ממלל:
webdyk yebrwn kl dmzrz khyla qdm ema dyy lqrba kma dy rbwny mmll
but your servants will pass over, every man who is armed for war, before Yahweh to battle, as my lord says.”
28
ופקיד להון משה ית אלעזר כהנא וית יהושע בר נון וית רישי אבהת שבטיא לבני ישראל:
wpqyd lhwn mshh yth alezr khna wyth yhwshe br nwn wyth ryshy abhth shbTya lbny yshral
So Moses commanded concerning them to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the heads of the fathers’ households of the tribes of the children of Israel.

ואמר משה להון אם יעברון בני גד ובני ראובן עמכון ית ירדנא כל דמזרז לקרבא קדם עמא דיי ותתכבש ארעא קדמיכון ותתנון להון ית ארעא דגלעד לאחסנא:
wamr mshh lhwn am yebrwn bny gd wbny rawbn emkwn yth yrdna kl dmzrz lqrba qdm ema dyy wththkbsh area qdmykwn wththnwn lhwn yth area dgled lakhsna
Moses said to them, “If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben will pass with you over the Jordan, every man who is armed to battle before Yahweh, and the land is subdued before you, then you shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession;
30
ואם לא יעברון מזרזין עמכון ויחסנון ביניכון בארעא דכנען:
wam la yebrwn mzrzyn emkwn wykhsnwn bynykwn barea dknen
but if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.”
31
ואתיבו בני גד ובני ראובן למימר ית די מליל יי לעבדיך כן נעבד:
wathybw bny gd wbny rawbn lmymr yth dy mlyl yy lebdyk kn nebd
The children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying, “As Yahweh has said to your servants, so will we do.
32
נחנא נעבר מזרזין קדם עמא דיי לארעא דכנען ועמנא אחודת אחסנתנא מעברא לירדנא:
nkhna nebr mzrzyn qdm ema dyy larea dknen wemna akhwdth akhsnthna mebra lyrdna
We will pass over armed before Yahweh into the land of Canaan, and the possession of our inheritance shall remain with us beyond the Jordan.”
33
ויהב להון משה לבני גד ולבני ראובן ולפלגות שבטא דמנשה בר יוסף ית מלכות סיחון מלכא דאמוראה וית מלכות עוג מלכא דמתנן ארעא לקרוהא בתחומין קרוי ארעא סחור סחור:
wyhb lhwn mshh lbny gd wlbny rawbn wlplgwth shbTa dmnshh br ywsp yth mlkwth sykhwn mlka damwrah wyth mlkwth ewg mlka dmthnn area lqrwha bthkhwmyn qrwy area skhwr skhwr
Moses gave to them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan; the land, according to its cities and borders, even the cities of the surrounding land.
34
ובנו בני גד ית דיבון וית עטרות וית ערער:
wbnw bny gd yth dybwn wyth eTrwth wyth erer
The children of Gad built Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,
35
וית עטרות שופן וית יעזר ורמתא:
wyth eTrwth shwpn wyth yezr wrmtha
Atroth-shophan, Jazer, Jogbehah,
36
וית בית נמרה וית בית הרן קרוין כריכן וחטרין דען:
wyth byth nmrh wyth byth hrn qrwyn krykn wkhTryn den
Beth Nimrah, and Beth Haran: fortified cities and folds for sheep.
37
ובני ראובן בנו ית חשבון וית אלעלא וית קריתים:
wbny rawbn bnw yth khshbwn wyth alela wyth qrythym
The children of Reuben built Heshbon, Elealeh, Kiriathaim,
38
וית נבו וית בעל מעון מקפן שמהן וית שבמה וקרו בשמהן ית שמהת קרויא די בנו:
wyth nbw wyth bel mewn mqpn shmhn wyth shbmh wqrw bshmhn yth shmhth qrwya dy bnw
Nebo, and Baal Meon, (their names being changed), and Sibmah. They gave other names to the cities which they built.
39
ואזלו בני מכיר בר מנשה לגלעד וכבשוה ותריך ית אמוראה די בה:
wazlw bny mkyr br mnshh lgled wkbshwh wthryk yth amwrah dy bh
The children of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead, took it, and dispossessed the Amorites who were therein.
40
ויהב משה ית גלעד למכיר בר מנשה ויתב בה:
wyhb mshh yth gled lmkyr br mnshh wythb bh
Moses gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh; and he lived therein.
41
ויאיר בר מנשה אזל וכבש ית כפרניהון וקרא יתהן כפרני יאיר:
wyayr br mnshh azl wkbsh yth kprnyhwn wqra ythhn kprny yayr
Jair the son of Manasseh went and took its villages, and called them Havvoth Jair.
42
ונבח אזל וכבש ית קנת וית כפרנהא וקרא לה נבח בשמיה:
wnbkh azl wkbsh yth qnth wyth kprnha wqra lh nbkh bshmyh
Nobah went and took Kenath and its villages, and called it Nobah, after his own name.
