ובעיר סגי הוה לבני ראובן ולבני גד תקיף לחדא וחזו ית ארע יעזר וית ארע גלעד והא אתרא אתר כשר לבית בעיר:
beyr lbyth kshr athr athra wha gled are wyth yezr are yth wkhzw lkhda thqyp gd wlbny rawbn lbny hwh sgy wbeyr
Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of livestock. They saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead. Behold, the place was a place for livestock.

ואתו בני גד ובני ראובן ואמרו למשה ולאלעזר כהנא ולרברבי כנשתא למימר:
lmymr knshtha wlrbrby khna wlalezr lmshh wamrw rawbn wbny gd bny wathw
Then the children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spoke to Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and to the princes of the congregation, saying,

מכללתא ומלבשתא וכומרין ובית נמרין ובית חושבנא ובעלי דבבא וכימא וסיעת בית קברתא דמשה ובעון:
wbewn dmshh qbrtha byth wsyeth wkyma dbba wbely khwshbna wbyth nmryn wbyth wkwmryn wmlbshtha mklltha
“Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo, and Beon,

ארעא די מחא יי ית יתבהא קדם כנשתא דישראל ארע כשרא לבית בעיר היא ולעבדיך אית בעיר:
beyr ayth wlebdyk hya beyr lbyth kshra are dyshral knshtha qdm ythbha yth yy mkha dy area
the land which Yahweh struck before the congregation of Israel, is a land for livestock; and your servants have livestock.”

ואמרו אם אשכחנא רחמין בעיניך תתיהיב ית ארעא הדא לעבדיך לאחסנא לא תעברננא ית ירדנא:
yrdna yth thebrnna la lakhsna lebdyk hda area yth ththyhyb beynyk rkhmyn ashkkhna am wamrw
They said, “If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants for a possession. Don’t bring us over the Jordan.”

ואמר משה לבני גד ולבני ראובן האחיכון יעלון לקרבא ואתון תיתבון הכא:
hka thythbwn wathwn lqrba yelwn hakhykwn rawbn wlbny gd lbny mshh wamr
Moses said to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, “Shall your brothers go to war while you sit here?

ולמא תונון ית לבא דבני ישראל מלמעבר לארעא דיהב להון יי:
yy lhwn dyhb larea mlmebr yshral dbny lba yth thwnwn wlma
Why do you discourage the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which Yahweh has given them?

כדין עבדו אבהתכון כד שלחית יתהון מרקם גיאה למחזי ית ארעא:
area yth lmkhzy gyah mrqm ythhwn shlkhyth kd abhthkwn ebdw kdyn
Your fathers did so when I sent them from Kadesh Barnea to see the land.

וסליקו עד נחלא דאתכלא וחזו ית ארעא ואוניאו ית לבא דבני ישראל בדיל דלא למעל לארעא דיהב להון יי:
yy lhwn dyhb larea lmel dla bdyl yshral dbny lba yth wawnyaw area yth wkhzw dathkla nkhla ed wslyqw
For when they went up to the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which Yahweh had given them.

ותקף רוגזא דיי ביומא ההוא וקיים למימר:
lmymr wqyym hhwa bywma dyy rwgza wthqp
Yahweh’s anger burned in that day, and he swore, saying,

אם יחזון גבריא דסליקו ממצרים מבר עשרין שנין ולעלא ית ארעא די קימית לאברהם ליצחק וליעקב ארי לא אשלימו בתר דחלתי:
dkhlthy bthr ashlymw la ary wlyeqb lytskhq labrhm qymyth dy area yth wlela shnyn eshryn mbr mmtsrym dslyqw gbrya ykhzwn am
‘Surely none of the men who came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me,

אלהן כלב בר יפנה קנזאה ויהושע בר נון ארי אשלימו בתר דחלתא דיי:
dyy dkhltha bthr ashlymw ary nwn br wyhwshe qnzah ypnh br klb alhn
except Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, and Joshua the son of Nun, because they have followed Yahweh completely.’

ותקף רוגזא דיי בישראל וטרדנון במדברא ארבעין שנין עד דסף כל דרא דעביד דביש קדם יי:
yy qdm dbysh debyd dra kl dsp ed shnyn arbeyn bmdbra wTrdnwn byshral dyy rwgza wthqp
Yahweh’s anger burned against Israel, and he made them wander back and forth in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation who had done evil in Yahweh’s sight was consumed.

והא קמתון חלף אבהתכון תלמידי גבריא חיביא לאוספא עוד על תקוף רוגזא דיי לישראל:
lyshral dyy rwgza thqwp el ewd lawspa khybya gbrya thlmydy abhthkwn khlp qmthwn wha
“Behold, you have risen up in your fathers’ place, an increase of sinful men, to increase the fierce anger of Yahweh toward Israel.

ארי תתובון מבתר דחלתיה ויוסף עוד לאחרותהון במדברא ותחבלון לכל עמא הדין:
hdyn ema lkl wthkhblwn bmdbra lakhrwthhwn ewd wywsp dkhlthyh mbthr ththwbwn ary
For if you turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and you will destroy all these people.”

וקריבו לותיה ואמרו חטרין דען נבני לבעירנא הכא וקרוין לטפלנא:
lTplna wqrwyn hka lbeyrna nbny den khTryn wamrw lwthyh wqrybw
They came near to him, and said, “We will build sheepfolds here for our livestock, and cities for our little ones;

ואנחנא נזדרז מבעין קדם בני ישראל עד די נעלנון לאתריהון ויתבון טפלנא בקרוין כריכין מן קדם יתבי ארעא:
area ythby qdm mn krykyn bqrwyn Tplna wythbwn lathryhwn nelnwn dy ed yshral bny qdm mbeyn nzdrz wankhna
but we ourselves will be ready armed to go before the children of Israel, until we have brought them to their place. Our little ones shall dwell in the fortified cities because of the inhabitants of the land.

לא נתוב לביתנא עד דיחסנון בני ישראל גבר אחסנתיה:
akhsnthyh gbr yshral bny dykhsnwn ed lbythna nthwb la
We will not return to our houses until the children of Israel have all received their inheritance.
19
ארי לא נחסין עמהון מעברא לירדנא ולהלא ארי קבלנא אחסנתנא לנא מעברא לירדנא מדינחא:
mdynkha lyrdna mebra lna akhsnthna qblna ary wlhla lyrdna mebra emhwn nkhsyn la ary
For we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan and beyond, because our inheritance has come to us on this side of the Jordan eastward.”

ואמר להון משה אם תעבדון ית פתגמא הדין אם תזדרזון קדם עמא דיי לקרבא:
lqrba dyy ema qdm thzdrzwn am hdyn pthgma yth thebdwn am mshh lhwn wamr
Moses said to them: “If you will do this thing, if you will arm yourselves to go before Yahweh to the war,

ויעבר לכון כל דמזרז ית ירדנא קדם עמא דיי עד דיתרך ית בעלי דבבוהי מן קדמוהי:
qdmwhy mn dbbwhy bely yth dythrk ed dyy ema qdm yrdna yth dmzrz kl lkwn wyebr
and every one of your armed men will pass over the Jordan before Yahweh until he has driven out his enemies from before him,

ותתכבש ארעא קדם עמא דיי ובתר כן תתובון ותהון זכאין מן קדם יי ומישראל ותהי ארעא הדא לכון לאחסנא קדם יי:
yy qdm lakhsna lkwn hda area wthhy wmyshral yy qdm mn zkayn wthhwn ththwbwn kn wbthr dyy ema qdm area wththkbsh
and the land is subdued before Yahweh; then afterward you shall return, and be clear of obligation to Yahweh and to Israel. Then this land shall be your possession before Yahweh.
23
ואם לא תעבדון כן הא חבתון קדם יי ותדעון חובתכון די תשכח יתכון:
ythkwn thshkkh dy khwbthkwn wthdewn yy qdm khbthwn ha kn thebdwn la wam
“But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against Yahweh; and be sure your sin will find you out.

בנו לכון קרוין לטפלכון וחטרין לענכון ודיפוק מפומכון תעבדון:
thebdwn mpwmkwn wdypwq lenkwn wkhTryn lTplkwn qrwyn lkwn bnw
Build cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do that which has proceeded out of your mouth.”

ואמרו בני גד ובני ראובן למשה למימר עבדיך יעבדון כמא די רבוני מפקד:
mpqd rbwny dy kma yebdwn ebdyk lmymr lmshh rawbn wbny gd bny wamrw
The children of Gad and the children of Reuben spoke to Moses, saying, “Your servants will do as my lord commands.
26
טפלנא נשנא גיתנא וכל בעירנא יהון תמן בקרוי גלעד:
gled bqrwy thmn yhwn beyrna wkl gythna nshna Tplna
Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our livestock shall be there in the cities of Gilead;
27
ועבדיך יעברון כל דמזרז חילא קדם עמא דיי לקרבא כמא די רבוני ממלל:
mmll rbwny dy kma lqrba dyy ema qdm khyla dmzrz kl yebrwn webdyk
but your servants will pass over, every man who is armed for war, before Yahweh to battle, as my lord says.”

ופקיד להון משה ית אלעזר כהנא וית יהושע בר נון וית רישי אבהת שבטיא לבני ישראל:
yshral lbny shbTya abhth ryshy wyth nwn br yhwshe wyth khna alezr yth mshh lhwn wpqyd
So Moses commanded concerning them to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the heads of the fathers’ households of the tribes of the children of Israel.

ואמר משה להון אם יעברון בני גד ובני ראובן עמכון ית ירדנא כל דמזרז לקרבא קדם עמא דיי ותתכבש ארעא קדמיכון ותתנון להון ית ארעא דגלעד לאחסנא:
lakhsna dgled area yth lhwn wththnwn qdmykwn area wththkbsh dyy ema qdm lqrba dmzrz kl yrdna yth emkwn rawbn wbny gd bny yebrwn am lhwn mshh wamr
Moses said to them, “If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben will pass with you over the Jordan, every man who is armed to battle before Yahweh, and the land is subdued before you, then you shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession;
30
ואם לא יעברון מזרזין עמכון ויחסנון ביניכון בארעא דכנען:
dknen barea bynykwn wykhsnwn emkwn mzrzyn yebrwn la wam
but if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.”
31
ואתיבו בני גד ובני ראובן למימר ית די מליל יי לעבדיך כן נעבד:
nebd kn lebdyk yy mlyl dy yth lmymr rawbn wbny gd bny wathybw
The children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying, “As Yahweh has said to your servants, so will we do.
32
נחנא נעבר מזרזין קדם עמא דיי לארעא דכנען ועמנא אחודת אחסנתנא מעברא לירדנא:
lyrdna mebra akhsnthna akhwdth wemna dknen larea dyy ema qdm mzrzyn nebr nkhna
We will pass over armed before Yahweh into the land of Canaan, and the possession of our inheritance shall remain with us beyond the Jordan.”
33
ויהב להון משה לבני גד ולבני ראובן ולפלגות שבטא דמנשה בר יוסף ית מלכות סיחון מלכא דאמוראה וית מלכות עוג מלכא דמתנן ארעא לקרוהא בתחומין קרוי ארעא סחור סחור:
skhwr skhwr area qrwy bthkhwmyn lqrwha area dmthnn mlka ewg mlkwth wyth damwrah mlka sykhwn mlkwth yth ywsp br dmnshh shbTa wlplgwth rawbn wlbny gd lbny mshh lhwn wyhb
Moses gave to them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan; the land, according to its cities and borders, even the cities of the surrounding land.

ובנו בני גד ית דיבון וית עטרות וית ערער:
erer wyth eTrwth wyth dybwn yth gd bny wbnw
The children of Gad built Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,
35
וית עטרות שופן וית יעזר ורמתא:
wrmtha yezr wyth shwpn eTrwth wyth
Atroth-shophan, Jazer, Jogbehah,
36
וית בית נמרה וית בית הרן קרוין כריכן וחטרין דען:
den wkhTryn krykn qrwyn hrn byth wyth nmrh byth wyth
Beth Nimrah, and Beth Haran: fortified cities and folds for sheep.
37
ובני ראובן בנו ית חשבון וית אלעלא וית קריתים:
qrythym wyth alela wyth khshbwn yth bnw rawbn wbny
The children of Reuben built Heshbon, Elealeh, Kiriathaim,
38
וית נבו וית בעל מעון מקפן שמהן וית שבמה וקרו בשמהן ית שמהת קרויא די בנו:
bnw dy qrwya shmhth yth bshmhn wqrw shbmh wyth shmhn mqpn mewn bel wyth nbw wyth
Nebo, and Baal Meon, (their names being changed), and Sibmah. They gave other names to the cities which they built.
39
ואזלו בני מכיר בר מנשה לגלעד וכבשוה ותריך ית אמוראה די בה:
bh dy amwrah yth wthryk wkbshwh lgled mnshh br mkyr bny wazlw
The children of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead, took it, and dispossessed the Amorites who were therein.
40
ויהב משה ית גלעד למכיר בר מנשה ויתב בה:
bh wythb mnshh br lmkyr gled yth mshh wyhb
Moses gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh; and he lived therein.
41
ויאיר בר מנשה אזל וכבש ית כפרניהון וקרא יתהן כפרני יאיר:
yayr kprny ythhn wqra kprnyhwn yth wkbsh azl mnshh br wyayr
Jair the son of Manasseh went and took its villages, and called them Havvoth Jair.
