אתפרע פרענות בני ישראל מן מדינאי בתר כן תתכנש לעמיך:

“Avenge the children of Israel on the Midianites. Afterward you shall be gathered to your people.”

ומליל משה עם עמא למימר זריזו מנכון גברין לחילא ויהון על מדין למיהב פרענות דין עמא דיי במדין:
wmlyl mshh em ema lmymr zryzw mnkwn gbryn lkhyla wyhwn el mdyn lmyhb prenwth dyn ema dyy bmdyn
Moses spoke to the people, saying, “Arm men from among you for war, that they may go against Midian, to execute Yahweh’s vengeance on Midian.

אלפא לשבטא אלפא לשבטא לכל שבטיא דישראל תשלחון לחילא:
alpa lshbTa alpa lshbTa lkl shbTya dyshral thshlkhwn lkhyla
You shall send one thousand out of every tribe, throughout all the tribes of Israel, to the war.”

ואתבחרו מאלפיא דישראל אלפא לשבטא תרי עשר אלפין מזרזי חילא:
wathbkhrw malpya dyshral alpa lshbTa thry eshr alpyn mzrzy khyla
So there were delivered, out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand from every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.

ושלח יתהון משה אלפא לשבטא לחילא יתהון וית פינחס בר אלעזר כהנא לחילא ומני דקודשא וחצצרת יבבתא בידיה:
wshlkh ythhwn mshh alpa lshbTa lkhyla ythhwn wyth pynkhs br alezr khna lkhyla wmny dqwdsha wkhtstsrth ybbtha bydyh
Moses sent them, one thousand of every tribe, to the war with Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the vessels of the sanctuary and the trumpets for the alarm in his hand.

ואתחילו על מדין כמא די פקיד יי ית משה וקטלו כל דכורא:
wathkhylw el mdyn kma dy pqyd yy yth mshh wqTlw kl dkwra
They fought against Midian, as Yahweh commanded Moses. They killed every male.
8
וית מלכי מדין קטלו על קטיליהון ית אוי וית רקם וית צור וית חור וית רבע חמשא מלכי מדין וית בלעם בר בעור קטלו בחרבא:
wyth mlky mdyn qTlw el qTylyhwn yth awy wyth rqm wyth tswr wyth khwr wyth rbe khmsha mlky mdyn wyth blem br bewr qTlw bkhrba
They killed the kings of Midian with the rest of their slain: Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian. They also killed Balaam the son of Beor with the sword.

ושבו בני ישראל ית נשי מדין וית טפלהון וית כל בעירהון וית כל גיתיהון וית כל נכסיהון בזו:
wshbw bny yshral yth nshy mdyn wyth Tplhwn wyth kl beyrhwn wyth kl gythyhwn wyth kl nksyhwn bzw
The children of Israel took the women of Midian captive with their little ones; and all their livestock, all their flocks, and all their goods, they took as plunder.

וית כל קרויהון במותבניהון וית כל בית סגדתהון אוקידו בנורא:
wyth kl qrwyhwn bmwthbnyhwn wyth kl byth sgdthhwn awqydw bnwra
All their cities in the places in which they lived, and all their encampments, they burned with fire.
11
ושבו ית כל עדאה וית כל דברתא באנשא ובבעירא:
wshbw yth kl edah wyth kl dbrtha bansha wbbeyra
They took all the captives, and all the plunder, both of man and of animal.
12
ואיתיו לות משה ולות אלעזר כהנא ולות כנשתא דבני ישראל ית שביא וית דברתא וית עדאה למשריתא למישריא דמואב די על ירדנא דירחו:
waythyw lwth mshh wlwth alezr khna wlwth knshtha dbny yshral yth shbya wyth dbrtha wyth edah lmshrytha lmyshrya dmwab dy el yrdna dyrkhw
They brought the captives with the prey and the plunder, to Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and to the congregation of the children of Israel, to the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by the Jordan at Jericho.

ונפקו משה ואלעזר כהנא וכל רברבי כנשתא לקדמותהון למברא למשריתא:
wnpqw mshh walezr khna wkl rbrby knshtha lqdmwthhwn lmbra lmshrytha
Moses and Eleazar the priest, with all the princes of the congregation, went out to meet them outside of the camp.

ורגיז משה על דממנן על חילא רבני אלפין ורבני מאותא דאתו מחיל קרבא:
wrgyz mshh el dmmnn el khyla rbny alpyn wrbny mawtha dathw mkhyl qrba
Moses was angry with the officers of the army, the captains of thousands and the captains of hundreds, who came from the service of the war.

ואמר להון משה הקימתון כל נוקבא:
wamr lhwn mshh hqymthwn kl nwqba
Moses said to them, “Have you saved all the women alive?
16
הא אנון הואה לבני ישראל בעצת בלעם לשקרא שקר קדם יי על עסק פעור והות מותנא בכנשתא דיי:
ha anwn hwah lbny yshral betsth blem lshqra shqr qdm yy el esq pewr whwth mwthna bknshtha dyy
Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against Yahweh in the matter of Peor, and so the plague was among the congregation of Yahweh.

וכען קטולו כל דכורא בטפלא וכל אתתא דידעת גבר למשכבי דכורא קטולו:
wken qTwlw kl dkwra bTpla wkl aththa dydeth gbr lmshkby dkwra qTwlw
Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man by lying with him.
18
וכל טפלא בנשיא די לא ידעא משכבי דכורא קיימו לכון:
wkl Tpla bnshya dy la ydea mshkby dkwra qyymw lkwn
But all the girls, who have not known man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.
19
ואתון שרו מברא למשריתא שבעא יומין כל די קטל נפשא וכל די קרב בקטילא תדון עלוהי ביומא תליתאה וביומא שביעאה אתון ושביכון:
wathwn shrw mbra lmshrytha shbea ywmyn kl dy qTl npsha wkl dy qrb bqTyla thdwn elwhy bywma thlythah wbywma shbyeah athwn wshbykwn
“Encamp outside of the camp for seven days. Whoever has killed any person, and whoever has touched any slain, purify yourselves on the third day and on the seventh day, you and your captives.

וכל לבוש וכל מאן דמשך וכל עובד מעזי וכל מאן דעא תדון עלוהי:
wkl lbwsh wkl man dmshk wkl ewbd mezy wkl man dea thdwn elwhy
You shall purify every garment, and all that is made of skin, and all work of goats’ hair, and all things made of wood.”

ואמר אלעזר כהנא לגברי חילא דאתו לקרבא דא גזרת אוריתא די פקיד יי ית משה:
wamr alezr khna lgbry khyla dathw lqrba da gzrth awrytha dy pqyd yy yth mshh
Eleazar the priest said to the men of war who went to the battle, “This is the statute of the law which Yahweh has commanded Moses.

ברם ית דהבא וית כספא ית נחשא ית פרזלא ית אבצא וית אברא:
brm yth dhba wyth kspa yth nkhsha yth przla yth abtsa wyth abra
However the gold, and the silver, the bronze, the iron, the tin, and the lead,
23
כל מדעם דמתעל בנורא תעברוניה בנורא וידכי ברם במי אדיותא יתדי וכל די לא מתעל בנורא תעברניה במיא:
kl mdem dmthel bnwra thebrwnyh bnwra wydky brm bmy adywtha ythdy wkl dy la mthel bnwra thebrnyh bmya
everything that may withstand the fire, you shall make to go through the fire, and it shall be clean; nevertheless it shall be purified with the water for impurity. All that doesn’t withstand the fire you shall make to go through the water.

ותחורון לבושיכון ביומא שביעאה ותדכון ובתר כן תעלון למשריתא:
wthkhwrwn lbwshykwn bywma shbyeah wthdkwn wbthr kn thelwn lmshrytha
You shall wash your clothes on the seventh day, and you shall be clean. Afterward you shall come into the camp.”

קבל ית חושבן דברת שביא באנשא ובבעירא את ואלעזר כהנא ורישי אבהת כנשתא:
qbl yth khwshbn dbrth shbya bansha wbbeyra ath walezr khna wryshy abhth knshtha
“Count the plunder that was taken, both of man and of animal, you, and Eleazar the priest, and the heads of the fathers’ households of the congregation;

ותפלג ית דברתא בין גברי מגיחי קרבא דנפקו לחילא ובין כל כנשתא:
wthplg yth dbrtha byn gbry mgykhy qrba dnpqw lkhyla wbyn kl knshtha
and divide the plunder into two parts: between the men skilled in war, who went out to battle, and all the congregation.
28
ותפרש נסיבא קדם יי מן גברי מגיחי קרבא דנפקו לחילא חד נפשא מחמש מאה מן אנשא ומן תורי ומן חמרי ומן ענא:
wthprsh nsyba qdm yy mn gbry mgykhy qrba dnpqw lkhyla khd npsha mkhmsh mah mn ansha wmn thwry wmn khmry wmn ena
Levy a tribute to Yahweh of the men of war who went out to battle: one soul of five hundred; of the persons, of the cattle, of the donkeys, and of the flocks.

מפלגותהון תסבון ותתן לאלעזר כהנא אפרשותא קדם יי:
mplgwthhwn thsbwn wththn lalezr khna aprshwtha qdm yy
Take it from their half, and give it to Eleazar the priest, for Yahweh’s wave offering.
30
ומפלגות בני ישראל תסב חד דאתחד מן חמשין מן אנשא מן תורי מן חמרי ומן ענא מכל בעירא ותתן יתהון ללואי נטרי מטרת משכנא דיי:
wmplgwth bny yshral thsb khd dathkhd mn khmshyn mn ansha mn thwry mn khmry wmn ena mkl beyra wththn ythhwn llway nTry mTrth mshkna dyy
Of the children of Israel’s half, you shall take one drawn out of every fifty, of the persons, of the cattle, of the donkeys, and of the flocks, of all the livestock, and give them to the Levites, who perform the duty of Yahweh’s tabernacle.”

ועבד משה ואלעזר כהנא כמא די פקיד יי ית משה:
webd mshh walezr khna kma dy pqyd yy yth mshh
Moses and Eleazar the priest did as Yahweh commanded Moses.
32
והוה דברתא שאר בזא די בזו עמא די נפקו לחילא ענא שית מאה ושבעין וחמשא אלפין:
whwh dbrtha shar bza dy bzw ema dy npqw lkhyla ena shyth mah wshbeyn wkhmsha alpyn
Now the plunder, over and above the booty which the men of war took, was six hundred seventy-five thousand sheep,

ותורי שבעין ותרין אלפין:
wthwry shbeyn wthryn alpyn
seventy-two thousand head of cattle,
35
ונפשא דאנשא מן נשיא די לא ידעא משכבי דכורא כל נפשתא תלתין ותרין אלפין:
wnpsha dansha mn nshya dy la ydea mshkby dkwra kl npshtha thlthyn wthryn alpyn
and thirty-two thousand persons in all, of the women who had not known man by lying with him.
36
והות פלגותא חולק גבריא די נפקו לחילא מנין ענא תלת מאה ותלתין ושבע אלפין וחמש מאה:
whwth plgwtha khwlq gbrya dy npqw lkhyla mnyn ena thlth mah wthlthyn wshbe alpyn wkhmsh mah
The half, which was the portion of those who went out to war, was in number three hundred thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep;
37
והוה נסיבא קדם יי מן ענא שית מאה שבעין וחמש:
whwh nsyba qdm yy mn ena shyth mah shbeyn wkhmsh
and Yahweh’s tribute of the sheep was six hundred seventy-five.
38
ותורי תלתין ושתא אלפין ונסיבהון קדם יי שבעין ותרין:
wthwry thlthyn wshtha alpyn wnsybhwn qdm yy shbeyn wthryn
The cattle were thirty-six thousand, of which Yahweh’s tribute was seventy-two.
39
וחמרי תלתין אלפין וחמש מאה ונסיבהון קדם יי שתין וחד:
wkhmry thlthyn alpyn wkhmsh mah wnsybhwn qdm yy shthyn wkhd
The donkeys were thirty thousand five hundred, of which Yahweh’s tribute was sixty-one.
40
ונפשא דאנשא שתא עשר אלפין ונסיבהון קדם יי תלתין ותרין נפשין:
wnpsha dansha shtha eshr alpyn wnsybhwn qdm yy thlthyn wthryn npshyn
The persons were sixteen thousand, of whom Yahweh’s tribute was thirty-two persons.
41
ויהב משה ית נסיב אפרשותא קדם יי לאלעזר כהנא כמא די פקיד יי ית משה:
wyhb mshh yth nsyb aprshwtha qdm yy lalezr khna kma dy pqyd yy yth mshh
Moses gave the tribute, which was Yahweh’s wave offering, to Eleazar the priest, as Yahweh commanded Moses.

ומפלגות בני ישראל די פלג משה מן גבריא די נפקו לחילא:
wmplgwth bny yshral dy plg mshh mn gbrya dy npqw lkhyla
Of the children of Israel’s half, which Moses divided off from the men who fought
43
והות פלגות כנשתא מן ענא תלת מאה ותלתין ושבעא אלפין וחמש מאה:
whwth plgwth knshtha mn ena thlth mah wthlthyn wshbea alpyn wkhmsh mah
(now the congregation’s half was three hundred thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep,

ותורי תלתין ושתא אלפין:
wthwry thlthyn wshtha alpyn
thirty-six thousand head of cattle,
45
וחמרי תלתין אלפין וחמש מאה:
wkhmry thlthyn alpyn wkhmsh mah
thirty thousand five hundred donkeys,
46
ונפשא דאנשא שתא עשר אלפין:
wnpsha dansha shtha eshr alpyn
and sixteen thousand persons),
47
ונסיב משה מפלגות בני ישראל ית דאתחד חד מן חמשין מן אנשא ומן בעירא ויהב יתהון ללואי נטרי מטרת משכנא דיי כמא די פקיד יי ית משה:
wnsyb mshh mplgwth bny yshral yth dathkhd khd mn khmshyn mn ansha wmn beyra wyhb ythhwn llway nTry mTrth mshkna dyy kma dy pqyd yy yth mshh
even of the children of Israel’s half, Moses took one drawn out of every fifty, both of man and of animal, and gave them to the Levites, who performed the duty of Yahweh’s tabernacle, as Yahweh commanded Moses.

וקריבו לות משה די ממנן על אלפי חילא רבני אלפין ורבני מאותא:
wqrybw lwth mshh dy mmnn el alpy khyla rbny alpyn wrbny mawtha
The officers who were over the thousands of the army, the captains of thousands, and the captains of hundreds, came near to Moses.

ואמרו למשה עבדיך קבילו ית חשבן גברי מגיחי קרבא די עמנא ולא שגא מננא אנש:
wamrw lmshh ebdyk qbylw yth khshbn gbry mgykhy qrba dy emna wla shga mnna ansh
They said to Moses, “Your servants have taken the sum of the men of war who are under our command, and there lacks not one man of us.

וקרבנא ית קורבנא דיי גבר דאשכח מאן דדהב שירין ושבכין עזקן קדשין ומחוך לכפרא על נפשתנא קדם יי:
wqrbna yth qwrbna dyy gbr dashkkh man ddhb shyryn wshbkyn ezqn qdshyn wmkhwk lkpra el npshthna qdm yy
We have brought Yahweh’s offering, what every man found: gold ornaments, armlets, bracelets, signet rings, earrings, and necklaces, to make atonement for our souls before Yahweh.”

ונסיב משה ואלעזר כהנא ית דהבא מנהון כל מאן דעובדא:
wnsyb mshh walezr khna yth dhba mnhwn kl man dewbda
Moses and Eleazar the priest took their gold, even all worked jewels.
52
והוה כל דהב אפרשותא די אפרישו קדם יי שתא עשר אלפין שבע מאה וחמשין סלעין מן רבני אלפין ומן רבני מאותא:
whwh kl dhb aprshwtha dy apryshw qdm yy shtha eshr alpyn shbe mah wkhmshyn sleyn mn rbny alpyn wmn rbny mawtha
All the gold of the wave offering that they offered up to Yahweh, of the captains of thousands, and of the captains of hundreds, was sixteen thousand seven hundred fifty shekels.

גברי דחילא בזו גבר לנפשיה:
gbry dkhyla bzw gbr lnpshyh
The men of war had taken booty, every man for himself.
54
ונסיב משה ואלעזר כהנא ית דהבא מן רבני אלפין ומאותא ואיתיאו יתיה למשכן זמנא דכרנא לבני ישראל קדם יי:
wnsyb mshh walezr khna yth dhba mn rbny alpyn wmawtha waythyaw ythyh lmshkn zmna dkrna lbny yshral qdm yy
Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the Tent of Meeting for a memorial for the children of Israel before Yahweh.
