אתפרע פרענות בני ישראל מן מדינאי בתר כן תתכנש לעמיך:
lemyk ththknsh kn bthr mdynay mn yshral bny prenwth athpre
“Avenge the children of Israel on the Midianites. Afterward you shall be gathered to your people.”

ומליל משה עם עמא למימר זריזו מנכון גברין לחילא ויהון על מדין למיהב פרענות דין עמא דיי במדין:
bmdyn dyy ema dyn prenwth lmyhb mdyn el wyhwn lkhyla gbryn mnkwn zryzw lmymr ema em mshh wmlyl
Moses spoke to the people, saying, “Arm men from among you for war, that they may go against Midian, to execute Yahweh’s vengeance on Midian.

אלפא לשבטא אלפא לשבטא לכל שבטיא דישראל תשלחון לחילא:
lkhyla thshlkhwn dyshral shbTya lkl lshbTa alpa lshbTa alpa
You shall send one thousand out of every tribe, throughout all the tribes of Israel, to the war.”

ואתבחרו מאלפיא דישראל אלפא לשבטא תרי עשר אלפין מזרזי חילא:
khyla mzrzy alpyn eshr thry lshbTa alpa dyshral malpya wathbkhrw
So there were delivered, out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand from every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.

ושלח יתהון משה אלפא לשבטא לחילא יתהון וית פינחס בר אלעזר כהנא לחילא ומני דקודשא וחצצרת יבבתא בידיה:
bydyh ybbtha wkhtstsrth dqwdsha wmny lkhyla khna alezr br pynkhs wyth ythhwn lkhyla lshbTa alpa mshh ythhwn wshlkh
Moses sent them, one thousand of every tribe, to the war with Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the vessels of the sanctuary and the trumpets for the alarm in his hand.

ואתחילו על מדין כמא די פקיד יי ית משה וקטלו כל דכורא:
dkwra kl wqTlw mshh yth yy pqyd dy kma mdyn el wathkhylw
They fought against Midian, as Yahweh commanded Moses. They killed every male.

וית מלכי מדין קטלו על קטיליהון ית אוי וית רקם וית צור וית חור וית רבע חמשא מלכי מדין וית בלעם בר בעור קטלו בחרבא:
bkhrba qTlw bewr br blem wyth mdyn mlky khmsha rbe wyth khwr wyth tswr wyth rqm wyth awy yth qTylyhwn el qTlw mdyn mlky wyth
They killed the kings of Midian with the rest of their slain: Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian. They also killed Balaam the son of Beor with the sword.

ושבו בני ישראל ית נשי מדין וית טפלהון וית כל בעירהון וית כל גיתיהון וית כל נכסיהון בזו:
bzw nksyhwn kl wyth gythyhwn kl wyth beyrhwn kl wyth Tplhwn wyth mdyn nshy yth yshral bny wshbw
The children of Israel took the women of Midian captive with their little ones; and all their livestock, all their flocks, and all their goods, they took as plunder.

וית כל קרויהון במותבניהון וית כל בית סגדתהון אוקידו בנורא:
bnwra awqydw sgdthhwn byth kl wyth bmwthbnyhwn qrwyhwn kl wyth
All their cities in the places in which they lived, and all their encampments, they burned with fire.

ושבו ית כל עדאה וית כל דברתא באנשא ובבעירא:
wbbeyra bansha dbrtha kl wyth edah kl yth wshbw
They took all the captives, and all the plunder, both of man and of animal.
12
ואיתיו לות משה ולות אלעזר כהנא ולות כנשתא דבני ישראל ית שביא וית דברתא וית עדאה למשריתא למישריא דמואב די על ירדנא דירחו:
dyrkhw yrdna el dy dmwab lmyshrya lmshrytha edah wyth dbrtha wyth shbya yth yshral dbny knshtha wlwth khna alezr wlwth mshh lwth waythyw
They brought the captives with the prey and the plunder, to Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and to the congregation of the children of Israel, to the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by the Jordan at Jericho.

ונפקו משה ואלעזר כהנא וכל רברבי כנשתא לקדמותהון למברא למשריתא:
lmshrytha lmbra lqdmwthhwn knshtha rbrby wkl khna walezr mshh wnpqw
Moses and Eleazar the priest, with all the princes of the congregation, went out to meet them outside of the camp.

ורגיז משה על דממנן על חילא רבני אלפין ורבני מאותא דאתו מחיל קרבא:
qrba mkhyl dathw mawtha wrbny alpyn rbny khyla el dmmnn el mshh wrgyz
Moses was angry with the officers of the army, the captains of thousands and the captains of hundreds, who came from the service of the war.

ואמר להון משה הקימתון כל נוקבא:
nwqba kl hqymthwn mshh lhwn wamr
Moses said to them, “Have you saved all the women alive?
16
הא אנון הואה לבני ישראל בעצת בלעם לשקרא שקר קדם יי על עסק פעור והות מותנא בכנשתא דיי:
dyy bknshtha mwthna whwth pewr esq el yy qdm shqr lshqra blem betsth yshral lbny hwah anwn ha
Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against Yahweh in the matter of Peor, and so the plague was among the congregation of Yahweh.

וכען קטולו כל דכורא בטפלא וכל אתתא דידעת גבר למשכבי דכורא קטולו:
qTwlw dkwra lmshkby gbr dydeth aththa wkl bTpla dkwra kl qTwlw wken
Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man by lying with him.

וכל טפלא בנשיא די לא ידעא משכבי דכורא קיימו לכון:
lkwn qyymw dkwra mshkby ydea la dy bnshya Tpla wkl
But all the girls, who have not known man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.
19
ואתון שרו מברא למשריתא שבעא יומין כל די קטל נפשא וכל די קרב בקטילא תדון עלוהי ביומא תליתאה וביומא שביעאה אתון ושביכון:
wshbykwn athwn shbyeah wbywma thlythah bywma elwhy thdwn bqTyla qrb dy wkl npsha qTl dy kl ywmyn shbea lmshrytha mbra shrw wathwn
“Encamp outside of the camp for seven days. Whoever has killed any person, and whoever has touched any slain, purify yourselves on the third day and on the seventh day, you and your captives.

וכל לבוש וכל מאן דמשך וכל עובד מעזי וכל מאן דעא תדון עלוהי:
elwhy thdwn dea man wkl mezy ewbd wkl dmshk man wkl lbwsh wkl
You shall purify every garment, and all that is made of skin, and all work of goats’ hair, and all things made of wood.”
21
ואמר אלעזר כהנא לגברי חילא דאתו לקרבא דא גזרת אוריתא די פקיד יי ית משה:
mshh yth yy pqyd dy awrytha gzrth da lqrba dathw khyla lgbry khna alezr wamr
Eleazar the priest said to the men of war who went to the battle, “This is the statute of the law which Yahweh has commanded Moses.

ברם ית דהבא וית כספא ית נחשא ית פרזלא ית אבצא וית אברא:
abra wyth abtsa yth przla yth nkhsha yth kspa wyth dhba yth brm
However the gold, and the silver, the bronze, the iron, the tin, and the lead,
23
כל מדעם דמתעל בנורא תעברוניה בנורא וידכי ברם במי אדיותא יתדי וכל די לא מתעל בנורא תעברניה במיא:
bmya thebrnyh bnwra mthel la dy wkl ythdy adywtha bmy brm wydky bnwra thebrwnyh bnwra dmthel mdem kl
everything that may withstand the fire, you shall make to go through the fire, and it shall be clean; nevertheless it shall be purified with the water for impurity. All that doesn’t withstand the fire you shall make to go through the water.
24
ותחורון לבושיכון ביומא שביעאה ותדכון ובתר כן תעלון למשריתא:
lmshrytha thelwn kn wbthr wthdkwn shbyeah bywma lbwshykwn wthkhwrwn
You shall wash your clothes on the seventh day, and you shall be clean. Afterward you shall come into the camp.”

קבל ית חושבן דברת שביא באנשא ובבעירא את ואלעזר כהנא ורישי אבהת כנשתא:
knshtha abhth wryshy khna walezr ath wbbeyra bansha shbya dbrth khwshbn yth qbl
“Count the plunder that was taken, both of man and of animal, you, and Eleazar the priest, and the heads of the fathers’ households of the congregation;

ותפלג ית דברתא בין גברי מגיחי קרבא דנפקו לחילא ובין כל כנשתא:
knshtha kl wbyn lkhyla dnpqw qrba mgykhy gbry byn dbrtha yth wthplg
and divide the plunder into two parts: between the men skilled in war, who went out to battle, and all the congregation.
28
ותפרש נסיבא קדם יי מן גברי מגיחי קרבא דנפקו לחילא חד נפשא מחמש מאה מן אנשא ומן תורי ומן חמרי ומן ענא:
ena wmn khmry wmn thwry wmn ansha mn mah mkhmsh npsha khd lkhyla dnpqw qrba mgykhy gbry mn yy qdm nsyba wthprsh
Levy a tribute to Yahweh of the men of war who went out to battle: one soul of five hundred; of the persons, of the cattle, of the donkeys, and of the flocks.
29
מפלגותהון תסבון ותתן לאלעזר כהנא אפרשותא קדם יי:
yy qdm aprshwtha khna lalezr wththn thsbwn mplgwthhwn
Take it from their half, and give it to Eleazar the priest, for Yahweh’s wave offering.
30
ומפלגות בני ישראל תסב חד דאתחד מן חמשין מן אנשא מן תורי מן חמרי ומן ענא מכל בעירא ותתן יתהון ללואי נטרי מטרת משכנא דיי:
dyy mshkna mTrth nTry llway ythhwn wththn beyra mkl ena wmn khmry mn thwry mn ansha mn khmshyn mn dathkhd khd thsb yshral bny wmplgwth
Of the children of Israel’s half, you shall take one drawn out of every fifty, of the persons, of the cattle, of the donkeys, and of the flocks, of all the livestock, and give them to the Levites, who perform the duty of Yahweh’s tabernacle.”

ועבד משה ואלעזר כהנא כמא די פקיד יי ית משה:
mshh yth yy pqyd dy kma khna walezr mshh webd
Moses and Eleazar the priest did as Yahweh commanded Moses.
32
והוה דברתא שאר בזא די בזו עמא די נפקו לחילא ענא שית מאה ושבעין וחמשא אלפין:
alpyn wkhmsha wshbeyn mah shyth ena lkhyla npqw dy ema bzw dy bza shar dbrtha whwh
Now the plunder, over and above the booty which the men of war took, was six hundred seventy-five thousand sheep,

ונפשא דאנשא מן נשיא די לא ידעא משכבי דכורא כל נפשתא תלתין ותרין אלפין:
alpyn wthryn thlthyn npshtha kl dkwra mshkby ydea la dy nshya mn dansha wnpsha
and thirty-two thousand persons in all, of the women who had not known man by lying with him.
36
והות פלגותא חולק גבריא די נפקו לחילא מנין ענא תלת מאה ותלתין ושבע אלפין וחמש מאה:
mah wkhmsh alpyn wshbe wthlthyn mah thlth ena mnyn lkhyla npqw dy gbrya khwlq plgwtha whwth
The half, which was the portion of those who went out to war, was in number three hundred thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep;

והוה נסיבא קדם יי מן ענא שית מאה שבעין וחמש:
wkhmsh shbeyn mah shyth ena mn yy qdm nsyba whwh
and Yahweh’s tribute of the sheep was six hundred seventy-five.
38
ותורי תלתין ושתא אלפין ונסיבהון קדם יי שבעין ותרין:
wthryn shbeyn yy qdm wnsybhwn alpyn wshtha thlthyn wthwry
The cattle were thirty-six thousand, of which Yahweh’s tribute was seventy-two.
39
וחמרי תלתין אלפין וחמש מאה ונסיבהון קדם יי שתין וחד:
wkhd shthyn yy qdm wnsybhwn mah wkhmsh alpyn thlthyn wkhmry
The donkeys were thirty thousand five hundred, of which Yahweh’s tribute was sixty-one.
40
ונפשא דאנשא שתא עשר אלפין ונסיבהון קדם יי תלתין ותרין נפשין:
npshyn wthryn thlthyn yy qdm wnsybhwn alpyn eshr shtha dansha wnpsha
The persons were sixteen thousand, of whom Yahweh’s tribute was thirty-two persons.
41
ויהב משה ית נסיב אפרשותא קדם יי לאלעזר כהנא כמא די פקיד יי ית משה:
mshh yth yy pqyd dy kma khna lalezr yy qdm aprshwtha nsyb yth mshh wyhb
Moses gave the tribute, which was Yahweh’s wave offering, to Eleazar the priest, as Yahweh commanded Moses.
42
ומפלגות בני ישראל די פלג משה מן גבריא די נפקו לחילא:
lkhyla npqw dy gbrya mn mshh plg dy yshral bny wmplgwth
Of the children of Israel’s half, which Moses divided off from the men who fought
43
והות פלגות כנשתא מן ענא תלת מאה ותלתין ושבעא אלפין וחמש מאה:
mah wkhmsh alpyn wshbea wthlthyn mah thlth ena mn knshtha plgwth whwth
(now the congregation’s half was three hundred thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep,

וחמרי תלתין אלפין וחמש מאה:
mah wkhmsh alpyn thlthyn wkhmry
thirty thousand five hundred donkeys,
47
ונסיב משה מפלגות בני ישראל ית דאתחד חד מן חמשין מן אנשא ומן בעירא ויהב יתהון ללואי נטרי מטרת משכנא דיי כמא די פקיד יי ית משה:
mshh yth yy pqyd dy kma dyy mshkna mTrth nTry llway ythhwn wyhb beyra wmn ansha mn khmshyn mn khd dathkhd yth yshral bny mplgwth mshh wnsyb
even of the children of Israel’s half, Moses took one drawn out of every fifty, both of man and of animal, and gave them to the Levites, who performed the duty of Yahweh’s tabernacle, as Yahweh commanded Moses.

וקריבו לות משה די ממנן על אלפי חילא רבני אלפין ורבני מאותא:
mawtha wrbny alpyn rbny khyla alpy el mmnn dy mshh lwth wqrybw
The officers who were over the thousands of the army, the captains of thousands, and the captains of hundreds, came near to Moses.
49
ואמרו למשה עבדיך קבילו ית חשבן גברי מגיחי קרבא די עמנא ולא שגא מננא אנש:
ansh mnna shga wla emna dy qrba mgykhy gbry khshbn yth qbylw ebdyk lmshh wamrw
They said to Moses, “Your servants have taken the sum of the men of war who are under our command, and there lacks not one man of us.
50
וקרבנא ית קורבנא דיי גבר דאשכח מאן דדהב שירין ושבכין עזקן קדשין ומחוך לכפרא על נפשתנא קדם יי:
yy qdm npshthna el lkpra wmkhwk qdshyn ezqn wshbkyn shyryn ddhb man dashkkh gbr dyy qwrbna yth wqrbna
We have brought Yahweh’s offering, what every man found: gold ornaments, armlets, bracelets, signet rings, earrings, and necklaces, to make atonement for our souls before Yahweh.”
51
ונסיב משה ואלעזר כהנא ית דהבא מנהון כל מאן דעובדא:
dewbda man kl mnhwn dhba yth khna walezr mshh wnsyb
Moses and Eleazar the priest took their gold, even all worked jewels.
52
והוה כל דהב אפרשותא די אפרישו קדם יי שתא עשר אלפין שבע מאה וחמשין סלעין מן רבני אלפין ומן רבני מאותא:
mawtha rbny wmn alpyn rbny mn sleyn wkhmshyn mah shbe alpyn eshr shtha yy qdm apryshw dy aprshwtha dhb kl whwh
All the gold of the wave offering that they offered up to Yahweh, of the captains of thousands, and of the captains of hundreds, was sixteen thousand seven hundred fifty shekels.

גברי דחילא בזו גבר לנפשיה:
lnpshyh gbr bzw dkhyla gbry
The men of war had taken booty, every man for himself.
54
ונסיב משה ואלעזר כהנא ית דהבא מן רבני אלפין ומאותא ואיתיאו יתיה למשכן זמנא דכרנא לבני ישראל קדם יי:
yy qdm yshral lbny dkrna zmna lmshkn ythyh waythyaw wmawtha alpyn rbny mn dhba yth khna walezr mshh wnsyb
Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the Tent of Meeting for a memorial for the children of Israel before Yahweh.
