ויתב ישראל בשטין ושרי עמא למטעי בתר בנת מואב:
wythb yshral bshTyn wshry ema lmTey bthr bnth mwab
Israel stayed in Shittim; and the people began to play the prostitute with the daughters of Moab;

וקרא לעמא לדבחי טעותהון ואכל עמא וסגידו לטעותהון:
wqra lema ldbkhy Tewthhwn wakl ema wsgydw lTewthhwn
for they called the people to the sacrifices of their gods. The people ate and bowed down to their gods.

ואתחבר ישראל לבעלא פעור ותקף רגזא דיי בישראל:
wathkhbr yshral lbela pewr wthqp rgza dyy byshral
Israel joined himself to Baal Peor, and Yahweh’s anger burned against Israel.

ואמר יי למשה דבר ית כל רישי עמא ודון וקטול דחיב קטול קדם יי לקבל שמשא ויתוב תקוף רוגזא דיי מישראל:
wamr yy lmshh dbr yth kl ryshy ema wdwn wqTwl dkhyb qTwl qdm yy lqbl shmsha wythwb thqwp rwgza dyy myshral
Yahweh said to Moses, “Take all the chiefs of the people, and hang them up to Yahweh before the sun, that the fierce anger of Yahweh may turn away from Israel.”

ואמר משה לדיני ישראל קטולו גבר גברוהי דאתחברו לבעלא פעור:
wamr mshh ldyny yshral qTwlw gbr gbrwhy dathkhbrw lbela pewr
Moses said to the judges of Israel, “Everyone kill his men who have joined themselves to Baal Peor.”

והא גברא מבני ישראל אתא וקרב לות אחוהי ית מדיניתא לעיני משה ולעיני כל כנשתא דבני ישראל ואנון בכן בתרע משכן זמנא:
wha gbra mbny yshral atha wqrb lwth akhwhy yth mdynytha leyny mshh wleyny kl knshtha dbny yshral wanwn bkn bthre mshkn zmna
Behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought to his brothers a Midianite woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, while they were weeping at the door of the Tent of Meeting.

וחזא פינחס בר אלעזר בר אהרן כהנא וקם מגו כנשתא ונסיב רמחא בידיה:
wkhza pynkhs br alezr br ahrn khna wqm mgw knshtha wnsyb rmkha bydyh
When Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from the middle of the congregation, and took a spear in his hand.

ועל בתר גברא בר ישראל לקובתא ובזע ית תרויהון ית גברא בר ישראל וית אתתא למעהא ואתכלי מותנא מעל בני ישראל:
wel bthr gbra br yshral lqwbtha wbze yth thrwyhwn yth gbra br yshral wyth aththa lmeha wathkly mwthna mel bny yshral
He went after the man of Israel into the pavilion, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her body. So the plague was stopped among the children of Israel.

והוו דמיתו במותנא עשרין וארבעא אלפין:
whww dmythw bmwthna eshryn warbea alpyn
Those who died by the plague were twenty-four thousand.

פינחס בר אלעזר בר אהרן כהנא אתב ית חימתי מעל בני ישראל בדקני ית קנאתי ביניהון ולא שיציתי ית בני ישראל בקנאתי:
pynkhs br alezr br ahrn khna athb yth khymthy mel bny yshral bdqny yth qnathy bynyhwn wla shytsythy yth bny yshral bqnathy
“Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, in that he was jealous with my jealousy among them, so that I didn’t consume the children of Israel in my jealousy.

בכן אמר הא אנא גזר ליה ית קימי שלם:
bkn amr ha ana gzr lyh yth qymy shlm
Therefore say, ‘Behold, I give to him my covenant of peace.

ותהי ליה ולבנוהי בתרוהי קים כהנת עלם חלף די קני קדם אלהיה וכפר על בני ישראל:
wthhy lyh wlbnwhy bthrwhy qym khnth elm khlp dy qny qdm alhyh wkpr el bny yshral
It shall be to him, and to his offspring after him, the covenant of an everlasting priesthood, because he was jealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Israel.’”

ושום גברא בר ישראל קטילא די אתקטל עם מדיניתא זמרי בר סלוא רב בית אבא לבית שמעון:
wshwm gbra br yshral qTyla dy athqTl em mdynytha zmry br slwa rb byth aba lbyth shmewn
Now the name of the man of Israel that was slain, who was slain with the Midianite woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a fathers’ house among the Simeonites.

ושום אתתא דאתקטילת מדינתא כזבי בת צור ריש אמי בית אבא במדין הוא:
wshwm aththa dathqTylth mdyntha kzby bth tswr rysh amy byth aba bmdyn hwa
The name of the Midianite woman who was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur. He was head of the people of a fathers’ house in Midian.

אעק ית מדינאי ותקטול יתהון:
aeq yth mdynay wthqTwl ythhwn
“Harass the Midianites, and strike them;

ארי מעיקין אנון לכון בנכליהון די נכילו לכון על עסק פעור ועל עסק כזבי בת רבא דמדין אחתהון דאתקטילת ביומא דמותנא על עסק פעור:
ary meyqyn anwn lkwn bnklyhwn dy nkylw lkwn el esq pewr wel esq kzby bth rba dmdyn akhthhwn dathqTylth bywma dmwthna el esq pewr
for they harassed you with their wiles, wherein they have deceived you in the matter of Peor, and in the incident regarding Cozbi, the daughter of the prince of Midian, their sister, who was slain on the day of the plague in the matter of Peor.”
