ונטלו בני ישראל ושרו במשריא דמואב מעברא לירדנא דירחו:
wnTlw bny yshral wshrw bmshrya dmwab mebra lyrdna dyrkhw
The children of Israel traveled, and encamped in the plains of Moab beyond the Jordan at Jericho.

וחזא בלק בר צפור ית כל די עבד ישראל לאמוראי:
wkhza blq br tspwr yth kl dy ebd yshral lamwray
Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.

ודחל מואבאה מן קדם עמא לחדא ארי סגי הוא ועקת למואבאה מן קדם בני ישראל:
wdkhl mwabah mn qdm ema lkhda ary sgy hwa weqth lmwabah mn qdm bny yshral
Moab was very afraid of the people, because they were many. Moab was distressed because of the children of Israel.

ואמר מואב לסבי מדין כען ישיצון קהלא ית כל סחרננא כמא דמלחיך תורא ית ירוקא דחקלא ובלק בר צפור מלכא למואב בעדנא ההיא:
wamr mwab lsby mdyn ken yshytswn qhla yth kl skhrnna kma dmlkhyk thwra yth yrwqa dkhqla wblq br tspwr mlka lmwab bedna hhya
Moab said to the elders of Midian, “Now this multitude will lick up all that is around us, as the ox licks up the grass of the field.” Balak the son of Zippor was king of Moab at that time.

ושלח אזגדין לות בלעם בר בעור לפתור ארם דעל פרת ארע בני עמיה למקרי ליה למימר הא עמא נפק ממצרים הא חפא ית עין שמשא דארעא והוא שרי מלקבלי:
wshlkh azgdyn lwth blem br bewr lpthwr arm del prth are bny emyh lmqry lyh lmymr ha ema npq mmtsrym ha khpa yth eyn shmsha darea whwa shry mlqbly
He sent messengers to Balaam the son of Beor, to Pethor, which is by the River, to the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying, “Behold, there is a people who came out of Egypt. Behold, they cover the surface of the earth, and they are staying opposite me.

וכען איתא כען לוט לי ית עמא הדין ארי תקיף הוא מני מאים אכול לאגחא ביה קרב ואתרכניה מן ארעא ארי ידענא ית די תברך מברך ודי תלוט ליט:
wken aytha ken lwT ly yth ema hdyn ary thqyp hwa mny maym akwl lagkha byh qrb wathrknyh mn area ary ydena yth dy thbrk mbrk wdy thlwT lyT
Please come now therefore, and curse this people for me; for they are too mighty for me. Perhaps I shall prevail, that we may strike them, and that I may drive them out of the land; for I know that he whom you bless is blessed, and he whom you curse is cursed.”

ואזלו סבי מואב וסבי מדין וקסמיא בידיהון ואתו לות בלעם ומלילו עמיה פתגמי בלק:
wazlw sby mwab wsby mdyn wqsmya bydyhwn wathw lwth blem wmlylw emyh pthgmy blq
The elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand. They came to Balaam, and spoke to him the words of Balak.

ואמר להון ביתו הכא בליליא ואתב יתכון פתגמא כמא די מליל יי עמי ואוריכו רברבי מואב עם בלעם:
wamr lhwn bythw hka blylya wathb ythkwn pthgma kma dy mlyl yy emy wawrykw rbrby mwab em blem
He said to them, “Lodge here this night, and I will bring you word again, as Yahweh shall speak to me.” The princes of Moab stayed with Balaam.

ואתא מימר מן קדם יי לות בלעם ואמר מן גבריא האלין דעמך:
watha mymr mn qdm yy lwth blem wamr mn gbrya halyn demk
God came to Balaam, and said, “Who are these men with you?”

ואמר בלעם קדם יי בלק בר צפור מלכא דמואב שלח לותי:
wamr blem qdm yy blq br tspwr mlka dmwab shlkh lwthy
Balaam said to God, “Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, has said to me,

הא עמא די נפק ממצרים וחפא ית עין שמשא דארעא כען איתא לוט לי יתיה מאים איכול לאגחא ביה קרב ואתרכניה:
ha ema dy npq mmtsrym wkhpa yth eyn shmsha darea ken aytha lwT ly ythyh maym aykwl lagkha byh qrb wathrknyh
‘Behold, the people that has come out of Egypt covers the surface of the earth. Now, come curse them for me. Perhaps I shall be able to fight against them, and shall drive them out.’”

ואמר יי לבלעם לא תזל עמהון לא תלוט ית עמא ארי בריך הוא:
wamr yy lblem la thzl emhwn la thlwT yth ema ary bryk hwa
God said to Balaam, “You shall not go with them. You shall not curse the people, for they are blessed.”

וקם בלעם בצפרא ואמר לרברבי בלק איזילו לארעכון ארי לית רעוא קדם יי למשבקי למזל עמכון:
wqm blem btspra wamr lrbrby blq ayzylw larekwn ary lyth rewa qdm yy lmshbqy lmzl emkwn
Balaam rose up in the morning, and said to the princes of Balak, “Go to your land; for Yahweh refuses to permit me to go with you.”

וקמו רברבי מואב ואתו לות בלק ואמרו סרב בלעם למתי עמנא:
wqmw rbrby mwab wathw lwth blq wamrw srb blem lmthy emna
The princes of Moab rose up, and they went to Balak, and said, “Balaam refuses to come with us.”
15
ואוסיף עוד בלק למשלח רברבין סגיאין ויקירין מאלין:
wawsyp ewd blq lmshlkh rbrbyn sgyayn wyqyryn malyn
Balak again sent princes, more, and more honorable than they.
16
ואתו לות בלעם ואמרו ליה כדנן אמר בלק בר צפור לא כען תתמנע מלמתי לותי:
wathw lwth blem wamrw lyh kdnn amr blq br tspwr la ken ththmne mlmthy lwthy
They came to Balaam, and said to him, “Balak the son of Zippor says, ‘Please let nothing hinder you from coming to me,

ארי יקרא איקרנך לחדא וכל די תימר לי אעבד ואיתא כען לוט לי ית עמא הדין:
ary yqra ayqrnk lkhda wkl dy thymr ly aebd waytha ken lwT ly yth ema hdyn
for I will promote you to very great honor, and whatever you say to me I will do. Please come therefore, and curse this people for me.’”

ואתב בלעם ואמר לעבדי בלק אם יתן לי בלק מלי ביתיה כסף ודהב לית לי רשו למעבר על גזרת מימרא דיי אלהי למעבד זערתא או רבתא:
wathb blem wamr lebdy blq am ythn ly blq mly bythyh ksp wdhb lyth ly rshw lmebr el gzrth mymra dyy alhy lmebd zertha aw rbtha
Balaam answered the servants of Balak, “If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I can’t go beyond the word of Yahweh my God, to do less or more.

וכען אוריכו כען הכא אף אתון בליליא ואדע מא יוסף יי למללא עמי:
wken awrykw ken hka ap athwn blylya wade ma ywsp yy lmlla emy
Now therefore please stay here tonight as well, that I may know what else Yahweh will speak to me.”
20
ואתא מימר מן קדם יי לבלעם בליליא ואמר ליה אם למקרי לך אתו גבריא קום אזל עמהון וברם ית פתגמא די אמלל עמך יתיה תעבד:
watha mymr mn qdm yy lblem blylya wamr lyh am lmqry lk athw gbrya qwm azl emhwn wbrm yth pthgma dy amll emk ythyh thebd
God came to Balaam at night, and said to him, “If the men have come to call you, rise up, go with them; but only the word which I speak to you, that you shall do.”

וקם בלעם בצפרא וזריז ית אתניה ואזל עם רברבי מואב:
wqm blem btspra wzryz yth athnyh wazl em rbrby mwab
Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his donkey, and went with the princes of Moab.
22
ותקף רגזא דיי ארי אזל הוא ואתעתד מלאכא דיי בארחא לשטן ליה והוא רכיב על אתניה ותרין עולמוהי עמיה:
wthqp rgza dyy ary azl hwa wathethd mlaka dyy barkha lshTn lyh whwa rkyb el athnyh wthryn ewlmwhy emyh
God’s anger burned because he went; and Yahweh’s angel placed himself in the way as an adversary against him. Now he was riding on his donkey, and his two servants were with him.
23
וחזת אתנא ית מלאכא דיי מעתד בארחא וחרביה שליפא בידיה וסטת אתנא מן אורחא ואזלת בחקלא ומחא בלעם ית אתנא לאסטיותה לארחא:
wkhzth athna yth mlaka dyy methd barkha wkhrbyh shlypa bydyh wsTth athna mn awrkha wazlth bkhqla wmkha blem yth athna lasTywthh larkha
The donkey saw Yahweh’s angel standing in the way, with his sword drawn in his hand; and the donkey turned out of the path, and went into the field. Balaam struck the donkey, to turn her into the path.
24
וקם מלאכא דיי בשביל כרמיא אתרא דגדרא מכא וגדרא מכא:
wqm mlaka dyy bshbyl krmya athra dgdra mka wgdra mka
Then Yahweh’s angel stood in a narrow path between the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side.

וחזת אתנא ית מלאכא דיי ואדחקת לכתלא ודחקת ית רגלא דבלעם לכתלא ואוסיף לממחה:
wkhzth athna yth mlaka dyy wadkhqth lkthla wdkhqth yth rgla dblem lkthla wawsyp lmmkhh
The donkey saw Yahweh’s angel, and she thrust herself to the wall, and crushed Balaam’s foot against the wall. He struck her again.
26
ואוסף מלאכא דיי למעבר וקם באתר עק די לית ארח למסטי לימינא ולשמאלא:
wawsp mlaka dyy lmebr wqm bathr eq dy lyth arkh lmsTy lymyna wlshmala
Yahweh’s angel went further, and stood in a narrow place, where there was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.
27
וחזת אתנא ית מלאכא דיי ורבעת תחות בלעם ותקף רוגזא דבלעם ומחא ית אתנא בחטרא:
wkhzth athna yth mlaka dyy wrbeth thkhwth blem wthqp rwgza dblem wmkha yth athna bkhTra
The donkey saw Yahweh’s angel, and she lay down under Balaam. Balaam’s anger burned, and he struck the donkey with his staff.
28
ופתח יי ית פומא דאתנא ואמרת לבלעם מה עבדית לך ארי מחיתני דנן תלת זמנין:
wpthkh yy yth pwma dathna wamrth lblem mh ebdyth lk ary mkhythny dnn thlth zmnyn
Yahweh opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, “What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times?”
29
ואמר בלעם לאתנא ארי חיכת בי אלופון אית חרבא בידי ארי כען קטלתיך:
wamr blem lathna ary khykth by alwpwn ayth khrba bydy ary ken qTlthyk
Balaam said to the donkey, “Because you have mocked me, I wish there were a sword in my hand, for now I would have killed you.”
30
ואמרת אתנא לבלעם הלא אנא אתנך די רכבת עלי מדאיתך עד יומא הדין המילף אליפנא למעבד לך כדין ואמר לא:
wamrth athna lblem hla ana athnk dy rkbth ely mdaythk ed ywma hdyn hmylp alypna lmebd lk kdyn wamr la
The donkey said to Balaam, “Am I not your donkey, on which you have ridden all your life long until today? Was I ever in the habit of doing so to you?” He said, “No.”

וגלא יי ית עיני בלעם וחזא ית מלאכא דיי מעתד בארחא וחרביה שליפא בידיה וכרע וסגיד לאפוהי:
wgla yy yth eyny blem wkhza yth mlaka dyy methd barkha wkhrbyh shlypa bydyh wkre wsgyd lapwhy
Then Yahweh opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw Yahweh’s angel standing in the way, with his sword drawn in his hand; and he bowed his head, and fell on his face.
32
ואמר ליה מלאכא דיי על מא מחיתא ית אתנך דנן תלת זמנין הא אנא נפקית למסטן ארי גלי קדמי דאת רעי למזל באורחא לקבלי:
wamr lyh mlaka dyy el ma mkhytha yth athnk dnn thlth zmnyn ha ana npqyth lmsTn ary gly qdmy dath rey lmzl bawrkha lqbly
Yahweh’s angel said to him, “Why have you struck your donkey these three times? Behold, I have come out as an adversary, because your way is perverse before me.
33
וחזתני אתנא וסטת מן קדמי דנן תלת זמנין אלופון לא סטת מן קדמי ארי כען אף יתך קטלית ויתה קימית:
wkhzthny athna wsTth mn qdmy dnn thlth zmnyn alwpwn la sTth mn qdmy ary ken ap ythk qTlyth wythh qymyth
The donkey saw me, and turned away before me these three times. Unless she had turned away from me, surely now I would have killed you, and saved her alive.”

ואמר בלעם למלאכא דיי חבית ארי לא ידעית די את מעתד לקדמותי בארחא וכען אם ביש בעיניך אתוב לי:
wamr blem lmlaka dyy khbyth ary la ydeyth dy ath methd lqdmwthy barkha wken am bysh beynyk athwb ly
Balaam said to Yahweh’s angel, “I have sinned; for I didn’t know that you stood in the way against me. Now therefore, if it displeases you, I will go back again.”
35
ואמר מלאכא דיי לבלעם אזל עם גבריא ולחוד ית פתגמא די אמלל עמך יתיה תמלל ואזל בלעם עם רברבי בלק:
wamr mlaka dyy lblem azl em gbrya wlkhwd yth pthgma dy amll emk ythyh thmll wazl blem em rbrby blq
Yahweh’s angel said to Balaam, “Go with the men; but you shall only speak the word that I shall speak to you.” So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.
36
ושמע בלק ארי אתא בלעם ונפק לקדמותיה לקרתא דמואב די על תחום ארנון די בסטר תחומא:
wshme blq ary atha blem wnpq lqdmwthyh lqrtha dmwab dy el thkhwm arnwn dy bsTr thkhwma
When Balak heard that Balaam had come, he went out to meet him to the City of Moab, which is on the border of the Arnon, which is in the utmost part of the border.
37
ואמר בלק לבלעם הלא משלח שלחית לותך למקרי לך למא לא אתיתא לותי הבקושטא הויתא אמר לית אנא יכיל ליקרותך:
wamr blq lblem hla mshlkh shlkhyth lwthk lmqry lk lma la athytha lwthy hbqwshTa hwytha amr lyth ana ykyl lyqrwthk
Balak said to Balaam, “Didn’t I earnestly send for you to summon you? Why didn’t you come to me? Am I not able indeed to promote you to honor?”
38
ואמר בלעם לבלק הא אתיתי לותך כען המיכל יכלנא למללא מדעם פתגמא דישוי יי בפומי יתיה אמלל:
wamr blem lblq ha athythy lwthk ken hmykl yklna lmlla mdem pthgma dyshwy yy bpwmy ythyh amll
Balaam said to Balak, “Behold, I have come to you. Have I now any power at all to speak anything? I will speak the word that God puts in my mouth.”
39
ואזל בלעם עם בלק ואתו לקרית מחוזוהי:
wazl blem em blq wathw lqryth mkhwzwhy
Balaam went with Balak, and they came to Kiriath Huzoth.
40
ונכס בלק תורין ועאן ושלח לבלעם ולרברביא די עמיה:
wnks blq thwryn wean wshlkh lblem wlrbrbya dy emyh
Balak sacrificed cattle and sheep, and sent to Balaam, and to the princes who were with him.
41
והוה בצפרא ודבר בלק ית בלעם ואסקיה לרמת דחלתיה וחזא מתמן קצת מן עמא:
whwh btspra wdbr blq yth blem wasqyh lrmth dkhlthyh wkhza mthmn qtsth mn ema
In the morning, Balak took Balaam, and brought him up into the high places of Baal; and he saw from there part of the people.
