Yahweh spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the Tent of Meeting, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt, saying,

“Take a census of all the congregation of the children of Israel, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, every male, one by one,

מבר עשרין שנין ולעלא כל נפק חילא בישראל תמנון יתהון לחיליהון את ואהרן:
mbr eshryn shnyn wlela kl npq khyla byshral thmnwn ythhwn lkhylyhwn ath wahrn
from twenty years old and upward, all who are able to go out to war in Israel. You and Aaron shall count them by their divisions.

ועמכון יהון גברא גברא לשבטא גבר ריש לבית אבהתוהי הוא:
wemkwn yhwn gbra gbra lshbTa gbr rysh lbyth abhthwhy hwa
With you there shall be a man of every tribe, each one head of his fathers’ house.

ואלין שמהת גבריא די יקומון עמכון לראובן אליצור בר שדיאור:
walyn shmhth gbrya dy yqwmwn emkwn lrawbn alytswr br shdyawr
These are the names of the men who shall stand with you: Of Reuben: Elizur the son of Shedeur.

לשמעון שלמיאל בר צורישדי:
lshmewn shlmyal br tswryshdy
Of Simeon: Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai.

ליהודה נחשון בר עמינדב:
lyhwdh nkhshwn br emyndb
Of Judah: Nahshon the son of Amminadab.

ליששכר נתנאל בר צוער:
lyshshkr nthnal br tswer
Of Issachar: Nethanel the son of Zuar.

לבני יוסף לאפרים אלישמע בר עמיהוד למנשה גמליאל בר פדהצור:

Of the children of Joseph: of Ephraim: Elishama the son of Ammihud; of Manasseh: Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur.

Of Benjamin: Abidan the son of Gideoni.

לדן אחיעזר בר עמישדי:

Of Dan: Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai.

אלין מערעי כנשתא רברבי שבטי אבהתהון רישי אלפיא דישראל אנון:
alyn merey knshtha rbrby shbTy abhthhwn ryshy alpya dyshral anwn
These are those who were called of the congregation, the princes of the tribes of their fathers; they were the heads of the thousands of Israel.

ונסב משה ואהרן ית גבריא האלין די אתפרשו בשמהן:
wnsb mshh wahrn yth gbrya halyn dy athprshw bshmhn
Moses and Aaron took these men who are mentioned by name.

וית כל כנשתא אכנשו בחד לירחא תנינא ואתיחסו על זרעיתהון לבית אבהתהון במנין שמהן מבר עשרין שנין ולעלא לגלגלתהון:

They assembled all the congregation together on the first day of the second month; and they declared their ancestry by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, one by one.

כמא די פקיד יי ית משה ומננון במדברא דסיני:

As Yahweh commanded Moses, so he counted them in the wilderness of Sinai.

והוו בני ראובן בוכרא דישראל תולדתהון לזרעיתהון לבית אבהתהון במנין שמהן לגלגלתהון כל דכורא מבר עשרין שנין ולעלא כל נפק חילא:

those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Reuben, were forty-six thousand five hundred.

לבני שמעון תולדתהון לזרעיתהון לבית אבהתהון מנינוהי במנין שמהן לגלגלתהון כל דכורא מבר עשרין שנין ולעלא כל נפק חילא:

those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Simeon, were fifty-nine thousand three hundred.

לבני גד תולדתהון לזרעיתהון לבית אבהתהון במנין שמהן מבר עשרין שנין ולעלא כל נפק חילא:

those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Gad, were forty-five thousand six hundred fifty.

those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Judah, were seventy-four thousand six hundred.

those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Issachar, were fifty-four thousand four hundred.

לבני זבולן תולדתהון לזרעיתהון לבית אבהתהון במנין שמהן מבר עשרין שנין ולעלא כל נפק חילא:

לבני מנשה תולדתהון לזרעיתהון לבית אבהתהון במנין שמהן מבר עשרין שנין ולעלא כל נפק חילא:

those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Manasseh, were thirty-two thousand two hundred.

those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Dan, were sixty-two thousand seven hundred.

לבני אשר תולדתהון לזרעיתהון לבית אבהתהון במנין שמהן מבר עשרין שנין ולעלא כל נפק חילא:

those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Asher, were forty-one thousand five hundred.

בני נפתלי תולדתהון לזרעיתהון לבית אבהתהון במנין שמהן מבר עשרין שנין ולעלא כל נפק חילא:
bny npthly thwldthhwn lzreythhwn lbyth abhthhwn bmnyn shmhn mbr eshryn shnyn wlela kl npq khyla
Of the children of Naphtali, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war:

מניניהון לשבטא דנפתלי חמשין ותלת אלפין וארבע מאה:
mnynyhwn lshbTa dnpthly khmshyn wthlth alpyn warbe mah
those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Naphtali, were fifty-three thousand four hundred.
44
אלין מניניא די מנא משה ואהרן ורברבי ישראל תרין עשר גברין גברא חד לבית אבהתוהי הוו:
alyn mnynya dy mna mshh wahrn wrbrby yshral thryn eshr gbryn gbra khd lbyth abhthwhy hww
These are those who were counted, whom Moses and Aaron counted, and the twelve men who were princes of Israel, each one for his fathers’ house.

והוו כל מניני בני ישראל לבית אבהתהון מבר עשרין שנין ולעלא כל נפק חילא בישראל:
whww kl mnyny bny yshral lbyth abhthhwn mbr eshryn shnyn wlela kl npq khyla byshral
So all those who were counted of the children of Israel by their fathers’ houses, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war in Israel—

והוו כל מניניא שית מאה ותלתא אלפין וחמש מאה וחמשין:
whww kl mnynya shyth mah wthltha alpyn wkhmsh mah wkhmshyn
all those who were counted were six hundred three thousand five hundred fifty.
47
ולואי לשבטא דאבהתהון לא אתמניאו ביניהון:
wlway lshbTa dabhthhwn la athmnyaw bynyhwn
But the Levites after the tribe of their fathers were not counted among them.
49
ברם ית שבטא דלוי לא תמני וית חשבנהון לא תקבל בגו בני ישראל:
brm yth shbTa dlwy la thmny wyth khshbnhwn la thqbl bgw bny yshral
“Only the tribe of Levi you shall not count, neither shall you take a census of them among the children of Israel;

ואת מני ית לואי על משכנא דסהדותא ועל כל מנוהי ועל כל די ליה אנון יטלון ית משכנא וית כל מנוהי ואנון ישמשניה וסחור סחור למשכנא ישרון:
wath mny yth lway el mshkna dshdwtha wel kl mnwhy wel kl dy lyh anwn yTlwn yth mshkna wyth kl mnwhy wanwn yshmshnyh wskhwr skhwr lmshkna yshrwn
but appoint the Levites over the Tabernacle of the Testimony, and over all its furnishings, and over all that belongs to it. They shall carry the tabernacle and all its furnishings; and they shall take care of it, and shall encamp around it.

ובמטל משכנא יפרקון יתיה לואי ובמשרי משכנא יקימון יתיה לואי וחלוני דיקרב יתקטל:

When the tabernacle is to move, the Levites shall take it down; and when the tabernacle is to be set up, the Levites shall set it up. The stranger who comes near shall be put to death.

וישרון בני ישראל גבר על משרוהי וגבר על טקסיה לחיליהון:
wyshrwn bny yshral gbr el mshrwhy wgbr el Tqsyh lkhylyhwn
The children of Israel shall pitch their tents, every man by his own camp, and every man by his own standard, according to their divisions.

ולואי ישרון סחור סחור למשכנא דסהדותא ולא יהי רוגזא על כנשתא דבני ישראל ויטרון לואי ית מטרת משכנא דסהדותא:
wlway yshrwn skhwr skhwr lmshkna dshdwtha wla yhy rwgza el knshtha dbny yshral wyTrwn lway yth mTrth mshkna dshdwtha
But the Levites shall encamp around the Tabernacle of the Testimony, that there may be no wrath on the congregation of the children of Israel. The Levites shall be responsible for the Tabernacle of the Testimony.”

ועבדו בני ישראל ככל די פקיד יי ית משה כן עבדו:
webdw bny yshral kkl dy pqyd yy yth mshh kn ebdw
Thus the children of Israel did. According to all that Yahweh commanded Moses, so they did.
