וארימת כל כנשתא ויהבו ית קלהון ובכו עמא בליליא ההוא:
warymth kl knshtha wyhbw yth qlhwn wbkw ema blylya hhwa
All the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.

ואתרעמו על משה ועל אהרן כל בני ישראל ואמרו להון כל כנשתא לוי דמיתנא בארעא דמצרים או במדברא הדין לוי דמיתנא:
wathremw el mshh wel ahrn kl bny yshral wamrw lhwn kl knshtha lwy dmythna barea dmtsrym aw bmdbra hdyn lwy dmythna
All the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron. The whole congregation said to them, “We wish that we had died in the land of Egypt, or that we had died in this wilderness!

ולמא יי מעל יתנא לארעא הדא למנפל בחרבא נשנא וטפלנא יהון לבזא הלא טב לנא די נתוב למצרים:
wlma yy mel ythna larea hda lmnpl bkhrba nshna wTplna yhwn lbza hla Tb lna dy nthwb lmtsrym
Why does Yahweh bring us to this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be captured or killed! Wouldn’t it be better for us to return into Egypt?”

ואמרו גבר לאחוהי נמני רישא ונתוב למצרים:
wamrw gbr lakhwhy nmny rysha wnthwb lmtsrym
They said to one another, “Let’s choose a leader, and let’s return into Egypt.”

ונפל משה ואהרן על אפיהון קדם כל קהל כנשתא דבני ישראל:
wnpl mshh wahrn el apyhwn qdm kl qhl knshtha dbny yshral
Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.

ויהושע בר נון וכלב בר יפנה מן מאללי ית ארעא בזעו לבושיהון:
wyhwshe br nwn wklb br ypnh mn mally yth area bzew lbwshyhwn
Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were of those who spied out the land, tore their clothes.

ואמרו לכל כנשתא דבני ישראל למימר ארעא די עברנא בה לאללא יתה טבא ארעא לחדא לחדא:
wamrw lkl knshtha dbny yshral lmymr area dy ebrna bh lalla ythh Tba area lkhda lkhda
They spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, “The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceedingly good land.

אם רעוא בנא קדם יי ויעל יתנא לארעא הדא ויתננה לנא ארעא די היא עבדא חלב ודבש:
am rewa bna qdm yy wyel ythna larea hda wythnnh lna area dy hya ebda khlb wdbsh
If Yahweh delights in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it to us: a land which flows with milk and honey.

ברם במימרא דיי לא תמרדון ואתון לא תדחלון מן עמא דארעא ארי בידנא מסירין אנון עדא תקפהון מנהון ומימרא דיי בסעדנא לא תדחלון מנהון:
brm bmymra dyy la thmrdwn wathwn la thdkhlwn mn ema darea ary bydna msyryn anwn eda thqphwn mnhwn wmymra dyy bsedna la thdkhlwn mnhwn
Only don’t rebel against Yahweh, neither fear the people of the land; for they are bread for us. Their defense is removed from over them, and Yahweh is with us. Don’t fear them.”

ואמרו כל כנשתא למרגם יתהון באבניא ויקרא דיי אתגלי במשכן זמנא לכל בני ישראל:
wamrw kl knshtha lmrgm ythhwn babnya wyqra dyy athgly bmshkn zmna lkl bny yshral
But all the congregation threatened to stone them with stones. Yahweh’s glory appeared in the Tent of Meeting to all the children of Israel.

ואמר יי למשה עד אימתי יהון מרגזין קדמי עמא הדין ועד אימתי לא יהימנון במימרי בכל אתיא די עבדית ביניהון:
wamr yy lmshh ed aymthy yhwn mrgzyn qdmy ema hdyn wed aymthy la yhymnwn bmymry bkl athya dy ebdyth bynyhwn
Yahweh said to Moses, “How long will this people despise me? How long will they not believe in me, for all the signs which I have worked among them?

אמחנון במותא ואשצנון ואעבד יתך לעם רב ותקיף מנהון:
amkhnwn bmwtha washtsnwn waebd ythk lem rb wthqyp mnhwn
I will strike them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of you a nation greater and mightier than they.”
13
ואמר משה קדם יי וישמעון מצראי ארי אסקתא בחילך ית עמא הדין מביניהון:
wamr mshh qdm yy wyshmewn mtsray ary asqtha bkhylk yth ema hdyn mbynyhwn
Moses said to Yahweh, “Then the Egyptians will hear it; for you brought up this people in your might from among them.

וימרון ליתב ארעא הדא דשמעו ארי את יי דשכנתך שרית בגו עמא הדין די בעיניהון חזן שכינת יקרא דיי ועננך מטל עלוהון ובעמודא דעננא את מדבר קדמיהון ביממא ובעמודא דאשתא בליליא:
wymrwn lythb area hda dshmew ary ath yy dshknthk shryth bgw ema hdyn dy beynyhwn khzn shkynth yqra dyy wennk mTl elwhwn wbemwda denna ath mdbr qdmyhwn bymma wbemwda dashtha blylya
They will tell it to the inhabitants of this land. They have heard that you Yahweh are among this people; for you Yahweh are seen face to face, and your cloud stands over them, and you go before them, in a pillar of cloud by day, and in a pillar of fire by night.

ותקטל ית עמא הדין כגברא חד וימרון עממיא די שמעו ית שמע גברתך למימר:
wthqTl yth ema hdyn kgbra khd wymrwn emmya dy shmew yth shme gbrthk lmymr
Now if you killed this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of you will speak, saying,

מדלית יוכלא קדם יי לאעלא ית עמא הדין לארעא די קים להון וקטלנון במדברא:
mdlyth ywkla qdm yy laela yth ema hdyn larea dy qym lhwn wqTlnwn bmdbra
‘Because Yahweh was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore to them, therefore he has slain them in the wilderness.’
17
וכען סגי כען חילא קדם יי כמא דמלילתא למימר:
wken sgy ken khyla qdm yy kma dmlyltha lmymr
Now please let the power of the Lord be great, according as you have spoken, saying,
18
יי מרחק רגז ומסגי למעבד טבון שבק לעוין ולמרוד ולחובין סלח לדתיבין לאוריתיה ודלא תיבין לא מזכי מסער חובי אבהן על בנין מרדין על דר תליתאי ועל דר רביעאי:
yy mrkhq rgz wmsgy lmebd Tbwn shbq lewyn wlmrwd wlkhwbyn slkh ldthybyn lawrythyh wdla thybyn la mzky mser khwby abhn el bnyn mrdyn el dr thlythay wel dr rbyeay
‘Yahweh is slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, forgiving iniquity and disobedience; and he will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and on the fourth generation.’

שבוק כען לחובי עמא הדין כסגיאות טבותך וכמא די שבקתא לעמא הדין ממצרים ועד כען:
shbwq ken lkhwby ema hdyn ksgyawth Tbwthk wkma dy shbqtha lema hdyn mmtsrym wed ken
Please pardon the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of your loving kindness, and just as you have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.”

ואמר יי שבקית כפתגמך:
wamr yy shbqyth kpthgmk
Yahweh said, “I have pardoned according to your word;
21
וברם קים אנא ומליא יקרא דיי ית כל ארעא:
wbrm qym ana wmlya yqra dyy yth kl area
but in very deed—as I live, and as all the earth shall be filled with Yahweh’s glory—
22
ארי כל גבריא דחזו ית יקרי וית אתותי די עבדית במצרים ובמדברא ונסיאו קדמי דנן עשר זמנין ולא קבילו במימרי:
ary kl gbrya dkhzw yth yqry wyth athwthy dy ebdyth bmtsrym wbmdbra wnsyaw qdmy dnn eshr zmnyn wla qbylw bmymry
because all those men who have seen my glory and my signs, which I worked in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet have tempted me these ten times, and have not listened to my voice;
23
אם יחזון ית ארעא די קימית לאבהתהון וכל דארגיזו קדמי לא יחזנה:
am ykhzwn yth area dy qymyth labhthhwn wkl dargyzw qdmy la ykhznh
surely they shall not see the land which I swore to their fathers, neither shall any of those who despised me see it.
24
ועבדי כלב חלף דהוה רוח אוחרי עמיה ואשלם בתר דחלתי ואעלניה לארעא די על לתמן ובנוהי יתרכנה:
webdy klb khlp dhwh rwkh awkhry emyh washlm bthr dkhlthy waelnyh larea dy el lthmn wbnwhy ythrknh
But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and has followed me fully, him I will bring into the land into which he went. His offspring shall possess it.
25
ועמלקאה וכנענאה יתב במישרא מחר אתפנו וטולו לכון למדברא ארח ימא דסוף:
wemlqah wknenah ythb bmyshra mkhr athpnw wTwlw lkwn lmdbra arkh yma dswp
Since the Amalekite and the Canaanite dwell in the valley, tomorrow turn and go into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea.”

ומליל יי עם משה ועם אהרן למימר:
wmlyl yy em mshh wem ahrn lmymr
Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,
27
עד אימתי לכנשתא בישתא הדא די אנון מתרעמין עלי ית תרעמת בני ישראל די אנון מתרעמין עלי שמיע קדמי:
ed aymthy lknshtha byshtha hda dy anwn mthremyn ely yth thremth bny yshral dy anwn mthremyn ely shmye qdmy
“How long shall I bear with this evil congregation that complain against me? I have heard the complaints of the children of Israel, which they complain against me.
28
אמר להון קים אנא אמר יי אם לא כמא די מללתון קדמי כן אעבד לכון:
amr lhwn qym ana amr yy am la kma dy mllthwn qdmy kn aebd lkwn
Tell them, ‘As I live, says Yahweh, surely as you have spoken in my ears, so I will do to you.
29
במדברא הדין יפלון פגריכון וכל מניניכון לכל חשבנכון מבר עשרין שנין ולעלא די אתרעמתון עלי:
bmdbra hdyn yplwn pgrykwn wkl mnynykwn lkl khshbnkwn mbr eshryn shnyn wlela dy athremthwn ely
Your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness; and all who were counted of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have complained against me,
30
אם אתון תעלון לארעא די קימית במימרי לאשראה יתכון בה אלהן כלב בר יפנה ויהושע בר נון:
am athwn thelwn larea dy qymyth bmymry lashrah ythkwn bh alhn klb br ypnh wyhwshe br nwn
surely you shall not come into the land concerning which I swore that I would make you dwell therein, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
31
וטפלכון די אמרתון לבזא יהי ואעל יתהון וידעון ית ארעא די קצתון בה:
wTplkwn dy amrthwn lbza yhy wael ythhwn wydewn yth area dy qtsthwn bh
But I will bring in your little ones that you said should be captured or killed, and they shall know the land which you have rejected.
32
ופגריכון די לכון יפלון במדברא הדין:
wpgrykwn dy lkwn yplwn bmdbra hdyn
But as for you, your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness.
33
ובניכון יהון מאחרין במדברא ארבעין שנין ויקבלון ית חוביכון עד דיסופון פגריכון במדברא:
wbnykwn yhwn makhryn bmdbra arbeyn shnyn wyqblwn yth khwbykwn ed dyswpwn pgrykwn bmdbra
Your children shall be wanderers in the wilderness forty years, and shall bear your prostitution, until your dead bodies are consumed in the wilderness.
34
במנין יומיא די אללתון ית ארעא ארבעין יומין יומא לשתא יומא לשתא תקבלון ית חוביכון ארבעין שנין ותדעון ית דאתרעמתון עלי:
bmnyn ywmya dy allthwn yth area arbeyn ywmyn ywma lshtha ywma lshtha thqblwn yth khwbykwn arbeyn shnyn wthdewn yth dathremthwn ely
After the number of the days in which you spied out the land, even forty days, for every day a year, you will bear your iniquities, even forty years, and you will know my alienation.’
35
אנא יי גזרית במימרי אם לא דא אעבד לכל כנשתא בישתא הדא דאזדמנון עלי במדברא הדין יסופון ותמן ימותון:
ana yy gzryth bmymry am la da aebd lkl knshtha byshtha hda dazdmnwn ely bmdbra hdyn yswpwn wthmn ymwthwn
I, Yahweh, have spoken. I will surely do this to all this evil congregation who are gathered together against me. In this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.”
36
וגבריא די שלח משה לאללא ית ארעא ותבו וארעימו עלוהי ית כל כנשתא לאפקא שום ביש על ארעא:
wgbrya dy shlkh mshh lalla yth area wthbw wareymw elwhy yth kl knshtha lapqa shwm bysh el area
The men whom Moses sent to spy out the land, who returned and made all the congregation to murmur against him by bringing up an evil report against the land,
37
ומיתו גבריא דאפיקו שום ביש על ארעא במותנא קדם יי:
wmythw gbrya dapyqw shwm bysh el area bmwthna qdm yy
even those men who brought up an evil report of the land, died by the plague before Yahweh.
38
ויהושע בר נון וכלב בר יפנה אתקימו מן גבריא האנון דאזלו לאללא ית ארעא:
wyhwshe br nwn wklb br ypnh athqymw mn gbrya hanwn dazlw lalla yth area
But Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh remained alive of those men who went to spy out the land.
39
ומליל משה ית פתגמיא האלין לכל בני ישראל ואתאבלו עמא לחדא:
wmlyl mshh yth pthgmya halyn lkl bny yshral wathablw ema lkhda
Moses told these words to all the children of Israel, and the people mourned greatly.
40
ואקדימו בצפרא וסליקו לריש טורא למימר הא אנחנא סלקין לאתרא די אמר יי ארי חבנא:
waqdymw btspra wslyqw lrysh Twra lmymr ha ankhna slqyn lathra dy amr yy ary khbna
They rose up early in the morning and went up to the top of the mountain, saying, “Behold, we are here, and will go up to the place which Yahweh has promised; for we have sinned.”
41
ואמר משה למא דנן אתון עברין על גזרת מימרא דיי והיא לא תצלח:
wamr mshh lma dnn athwn ebryn el gzrth mymra dyy whya la thtslkh
Moses said, “Why now do you disobey the commandment of Yahweh, since it shall not prosper?
42
לא תסקון ארי לית שכנתא דיי ביניכון ולא תתברון קדם בעלי דבביכון:
la thsqwn ary lyth shkntha dyy bynykwn wla ththbrwn qdm bely dbbykwn
Don’t go up, for Yahweh isn’t among you; that way you won’t be struck down before your enemies.
43
ארי עמלקאה וכנענאה תמן קדמיכון ותפלון בחרבא ארי על כן תבתון מבתר פלחנא דיי ולא יהי מימרא דיי בסעדכון:
ary emlqah wknenah thmn qdmykwn wthplwn bkhrba ary el kn thbthwn mbthr plkhna dyy wla yhy mymra dyy bsedkwn
For there the Amalekite and the Canaanite are before you, and you will fall by the sword because you turned back from following Yahweh; therefore Yahweh will not be with you.”
44
וארשעו למסק לריש טורא וארון קימא דיי ומשה לא עדו מגו משריתא:
warshew lmsq lrysh Twra warwn qyma dyy wmshh la edw mgw mshrytha
But they presumed to go up to the top of the mountain. Nevertheless, the ark of Yahweh’s covenant and Moses didn’t depart out of the camp.
45
ונחת עמלקאה וכנענאה דיתב בטורא ההוא ומחנון וטרדנון עד חרמה:
wnkhth emlqah wknenah dythb bTwra hhwa wmkhnwn wTrdnwn ed khrmh
Then the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites who lived in that mountain, and struck them and beat them down even to Hormah.
