שלח לך גברין ויאללון ית ארעא דכנען די אנא יהב לבני ישראל גברא חד גברא חד לשבטא דאבהתוהי תשלחון כל רבא דבהון:

“Send men, that they may spy out the land of Canaan, which I give to the children of Israel. Of every tribe of their fathers, you shall send a man, every one a prince among them.”

ושלח יתהון משה ממדברא דפארן על מימרא דיי כלהון גברין רישי בני ישראל אנון:
wshlkh ythhwn mshh mmdbra dparn el mymra dyy klhwn gbryn ryshy bny yshral anwn
Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran according to the commandment of Yahweh. All of them were men who were heads of the children of Israel.

ואלין שמהתהון לשבטא דראובן שמוע בר זכור:
walyn shmhthhwn lshbTa drawbn shmwe br zkwr
These were their names: Of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur.

לשבטא דשמעון שפט בר חורי:
lshbTa dshmewn shpT br khwry
Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori.

לשבטא דיהודה כלב בר יפנה:
lshbTa dyhwdh klb br ypnh
Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.

לשבטא דיששכר יגאל בר יוסף:
lshbTa dyshshkr ygal br ywsp
Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph.

לשבטא דאפרים הושע בר נון:
lshbTa daprym hwshe br nwn
Of the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun.

לשבטא דבנימן פלטי בר רפוא:
lshbTa dbnymn plTy br rpwa
Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu.

לשבטא דזבולן גדיאל בר סודי:
lshbTa dzbwln gdyal br swdy
Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi.

לשבטא דיוסף לשבטא דמנשה גדי בר סוסי:
lshbTa dywsp lshbTa dmnshh gdy br swsy
Of the tribe of Joseph, of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi.

לשבטא דדן עמיאל בר גמלי:
lshbTa ddn emyal br gmly
Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli.

לשבטא דאשר סתור בר מיכאל:
lshbTa dashr sthwr br mykal
Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael.

לשבטא דנפתלי נחבי בר ופסי:
lshbTa dnpthly nkhby br wpsy
Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi.

לשבטא דגד גאואל בר מכי:
lshbTa dgd gawal br mky
Of the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.

אלין שמהת גבריא די שלח משה לאללא ית ארעא וקרא משה להושע בר נון יהושע:
alyn shmhth gbrya dy shlkh mshh lalla yth area wqra mshh lhwshe br nwn yhwshe
These are the names of the men who Moses sent to spy out the land. Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun Joshua.

ושלח יתהון משה לאללא ית ארעא דכנען ואמר להון סקו דא בדרומא ותסקון לטורא:
wshlkh ythhwn mshh lalla yth area dknen wamr lhwn sqw da bdrwma wthsqwn lTwra
Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said to them, “Go up this way by the South, and go up into the hill country.

ותחזון ית ארעא מא היא וית עמא דיתב עלה התקיף הוא אם חלש הזער הוא אם סגי:
wthkhzwn yth area ma hya wyth ema dythb elh hthqyp hwa am khlsh hzer hwa am sgy
See the land, what it is; and the people who dwell therein, whether they are strong or weak, whether they are few or many;

ומא ארעא די הוא יתב בה הטבא היא אם בישא ומא קרויא די הוא יתב בהון הבפצחין אם בכרכין:
wma area dy hwa ythb bh hTba hya am bysha wma qrwya dy hwa ythb bhwn hbptskhyn am bkrkyn
and what the land is that they dwell in, whether it is good or bad; and what cities they are that they dwell in, whether in camps, or in strongholds;

ומא ארעא העתירא היא אם מסכנא האית בה אילנין אם לא ותתקפון ותסבון מאבא דארעא ויומיא יומי בכורי ענבין:
wma area hethyra hya am mskna hayth bh aylnyn am la wththqpwn wthsbwn maba darea wywmya ywmy bkwry enbyn
and what the land is, whether it is fertile or poor, whether there is wood therein, or not. Be courageous, and bring some of the fruit of the land.” Now the time was the time of the first-ripe grapes.

וסליקו ואלילו ית ארעא ממדברא דצין עד רחוב למטי חמת:
wslyqw walylw yth area mmdbra dtsyn ed rkhwb lmTy khmth
So they went up, and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, to the entrance of Hamath.

וסליקו בדרומא ואתא עד חברון ותמן אחימן ששי ותלמי בני גבריא וחברון שבע שנין אתבניאת קדם טנס דמצרים:
wslyqw bdrwma watha ed khbrwn wthmn akhymn shshy wthlmy bny gbrya wkhbrwn shbe shnyn athbnyath qdm Tns dmtsrym
They went up by the South, and came to Hebron; and Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were there. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

ואתו עד נחלא דאתכלא וקצו מתמן עוברתא ואתכל ענבין חד ונטלוהי באריחא בתרין ומן רמוניא ומן תאניא:
wathw ed nkhla dathkla wqtsw mthmn ewbrtha wathkl enbyn khd wnTlwhy barykha bthryn wmn rmwnya wmn thanya
They came to the valley of Eshcol, and cut down from there a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bore it on a staff between two. They also brought some of the pomegranates and figs.

לאתרא ההוא קרא נחלא דאתכלא על עסק אתכלא דקצו מתמן בני ישראל:
lathra hhwa qra nkhla dathkla el esq athkla dqtsw mthmn bny yshral
That place was called the valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster which the children of Israel cut down from there.

ותבו מלאללא ית ארעא מסוף ארבעין יומין:
wthbw mlalla yth area mswp arbeyn ywmyn
They returned from spying out the land at the end of forty days.

ואזלו ואתו לות משה ולות אהרן ולות כל כנשתא דבני ישראל למדברא דפארן לרקם ואתיבו יתהון פתגמא וית כל כנשתא ואחזיאנון ית אבא דארעא:
wazlw wathw lwth mshh wlwth ahrn wlwth kl knshtha dbny yshral lmdbra dparn lrqm wathybw ythhwn pthgma wyth kl knshtha wakhzyanwn yth aba darea
They went and came to Moses, to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, to the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word to them and to all the congregation. They showed them the fruit of the land.

ואשתעיאו ליה ואמרו אתינא לארעא די שלחתנא ואף עבדא חלב ודבש היא ודין אבה:
washtheyaw lyh wamrw athyna larea dy shlkhthna wap ebda khlb wdbsh hya wdyn abh
They told him, and said, “We came to the land where you sent us. Surely it flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit.

לחוד ארי תקיף עמא דיתב בארעא וקרויא כריכן רברבן לחדא ואף בני גבריא חזינא תמן:
lkhwd ary thqyp ema dythb barea wqrwya krykn rbrbn lkhda wap bny gbrya khzyna thmn
However, the people who dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large. Moreover, we saw the children of Anak there.

עמלקאה יתב בארע דרומא וחתאה ויבוסאה ואמוראה יתב בטורא וכנענאה יתב על ימא ועל כיף ירדנא:
emlqah ythb bare drwma wkhthah wybwsah wamwrah ythb bTwra wknenah ythb el yma wel kyp yrdna
Amalek dwells in the land of the South. The Hittite, the Jebusite, and the Amorite dwell in the hill country. The Canaanite dwells by the sea, and along the side of the Jordan.”

ואצית כלב ית עמא למשה ואמר מיסק ניסק ונירת יתה ארי מיכל ניכול לה:
watsyth klb yth ema lmshh wamr mysq nysq wnyrth ythh ary mykl nykwl lh
Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, “Let’s go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it!”

וגבריא די סליקו עמיה אמרו לא ניכול למיסק לות עמא ארי תקיף הוא מננא:
wgbrya dy slyqw emyh amrw la nykwl lmysq lwth ema ary thqyp hwa mnna
But the men who went up with him said, “We aren’t able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.”

ואפיקו שום ביש על ארעא די אלילו יתה לות בני ישראל למימר ארעא די עברנא בה לאללא יתה ארעא מקטלת יתבהא היא וכל עמא די חזינא בגוה אנשין דמשחן:
wapyqw shwm bysh el area dy alylw ythh lwth bny yshral lmymr area dy ebrna bh lalla ythh area mqTlth ythbha hya wkl ema dy khzyna bgwh anshyn dmshkhn
They brought up an evil report of the land which they had spied out to the children of Israel, saying, “The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that eats up its inhabitants; and all the people who we saw in it are men of great stature.

ותמן חזינא ית גבריא בני ענק מן גבריא והוינא בעיני נפשנא כקמצין וכן הוינא בעיניהון:
wthmn khzyna yth gbrya bny enq mn gbrya whwyna beyny npshna kqmtsyn wkn hwyna beynyhwn
There we saw the Nephilim, the sons of Anak, who come from the Nephilim. We were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.”
