והוה עמא כד מסתקפין ביש קדם יי ושמיע קדם יי ותקף רגזיה ודלקת בהון אשתא מן קדם יי ושציאת בסיפי משריתא:
whwh ema kd msthqpyn bysh qdm yy wshmye qdm yy wthqp rgzyh wdlqth bhwn ashtha mn qdm yy wshtsyath bsypy mshrytha
The people were complaining in the ears of Yahweh. When Yahweh heard it, his anger burned; and Yahweh’s fire burned among them, and consumed some of the outskirts of the camp.

וצוח עמא על משה וצלי משה קדם יי ואשתקעת אשתא:
wtswkh ema el mshh wtsly mshh qdm yy washthqeth ashtha
The people cried to Moses; and Moses prayed to Yahweh, and the fire abated.

וקרא שמא דאתרא ההוא דלקתא ארי דלקת בהון אשתא מן קדם יי:
wqra shma dathra hhwa dlqtha ary dlqth bhwn ashtha mn qdm yy
The name of that place was called Taberah, because Yahweh’s fire burned among them.

וערברבין די ביניהון שאילו שאלתא ותבו ובכו אף בני ישראל ואמרו מאן ייכלננא בסרא:
werbrbyn dy bynyhwn shaylw shaltha wthbw wbkw ap bny yshral wamrw man yyklnna bsra
The mixed multitude that was among them lusted exceedingly; and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, “Who will give us meat to eat?

דכירין אנחנא ית נוניא דהוינא אכלין במצרים מגן ית בוציניא וית אבטיחיא וכרתי ובוצלי ותומי:
dkyryn ankhna yth nwnya dhwyna aklyn bmtsrym mgn yth bwtsynya wyth abTykhya wkrthy wbwtsly wthwmy
We remember the fish, which we ate in Egypt for nothing; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic;

וכען נפשנא תאיבא לית כל מדעם אלהן למנא עיננא:
wken npshna thayba lyth kl mdem alhn lmna eynna
but now we have lost our appetite. There is nothing at all except this manna to look at.”

ומנא כבר זרע גדא הוא וחזויה כחזו בדלחא:
wmna kbr zre gda hwa wkhzwyh kkhzw bdlkha
The manna was like coriander seed, and it looked like bdellium.

שיטין עמא ולקטין דצבי טחין בריחיא או דצבי דאיך במדכתא ומבשלין ליה בקדרא ועבדין יתיה גריצן והוה טעמיה כטעם דליש במשחא:
shyTyn ema wlqTyn dtsby Tkhyn brykhya aw dtsby dayk bmdktha wmbshlyn lyh bqdra webdyn ythyh grytsn whwh Temyh kTem dlysh bmshkha
The people went around, gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in mortars, and boiled it in pots, and made cakes of it. Its taste was like the taste of fresh oil.

וכד נחית טלא על משריתא ליליא נחית מנא עלוהי:
wkd nkhyth Tla el mshrytha lylya nkhyth mna elwhy
When the dew fell on the camp in the night, the manna fell on it.
10
ושמע משה ית עמא בכן לזרעיתהון גבר בתרע משכניה ותקף רגזא דיי לחדא ובעיני משה ביש:
wshme mshh yth ema bkn lzreythhwn gbr bthre mshknyh wthqp rgza dyy lkhda wbeyny mshh bysh
Moses heard the people weeping throughout their families, every man at the door of his tent; and Yahweh’s anger burned greatly; and Moses was displeased.

ואמר משה קדם יי למא אבאשתא לעבדך ולמא לא אשכחית רחמין קדמך לשואה ית מטול כל עמא הדין עלי:
wamr mshh qdm yy lma abashtha lebdk wlma la ashkkhyth rkhmyn qdmk lshwah yth mTwl kl ema hdyn ely
Moses said to Yahweh, “Why have you treated your servant so badly? Why haven’t I found favor in your sight, that you lay the burden of all this people on me?

האב אנא לכל עמא הדין אם בני אנון דאמרת לי סוברהי בתקפך כמא דמסובר תרבינא ית ינקא על ארעא די קימתא לאבהתוהי:
hab ana lkl ema hdyn am bny anwn damrth ly swbrhy bthqpk kma dmswbr thrbyna yth ynqa el area dy qymtha labhthwhy
Have I conceived all this people? Have I brought them out, that you should tell me, ‘Carry them in your bosom, as a nurse carries a nursing infant, to the land which you swore to their fathers’?

מנן לי בסרא למיהב לכל עמא הדין ארי בכן עלי למימר הב לנא בסרא וניכול:
mnn ly bsra lmyhb lkl ema hdyn ary bkn ely lmymr hb lna bsra wnykwl
Where could I get meat to give all these people? For they weep before me, saying, ‘Give us meat, that we may eat.’

לית אנא יכיל בלחודי לסוברא ית כל עמא הדין ארי יקיר מני:
lyth ana ykyl blkhwdy lswbra yth kl ema hdyn ary yqyr mny
I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me.
15
ואם כדין את עבד לי קטלני כען קטול אם אשכחית רחמין קדמך ולא אחזי בבישתי:
wam kdyn ath ebd ly qTlny ken qTwl am ashkkhyth rkhmyn qdmk wla akhzy bbyshthy
If you treat me this way, please kill me right now, if I have found favor in your sight; and don’t let me see my wretchedness.”

ואמר יי למשה כנוש קדמי שבעין גברא מסבי ישראל די ידעת ארי אנון סבי עמא וסרכוהי ותדבר יתהון למשכן זמנא ויתעתדון תמן עמך:
wamr yy lmshh knwsh qdmy shbeyn gbra msby yshral dy ydeth ary anwn sby ema wsrkwhy wthdbr ythhwn lmshkn zmna wythethdwn thmn emk
Yahweh said to Moses, “Gather to me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people and officers over them; and bring them to the Tent of Meeting, that they may stand there with you.

ואתגלי ואמלל עמך תמן וארבי מן רוחא דעלך ואשוי עליהון ויסוברון עמך במטול עמא ולא תסובר את בלחודך:
wathgly wamll emk thmn warby mn rwkha delk washwy elyhwn wyswbrwn emk bmTwl ema wla thswbr ath blkhwdk
I will come down and talk with you there. I will take of the Spirit which is on you, and will put it on them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, that you don’t bear it yourself alone.

ולעמא תימר אזדמנו למחר ותיכלון בסרא ארי בכיתון קדם יי למימר מן יכלננא בסרא ארי טב לנא במצרים ויתן יי לכון בסרא ותיכלון:
wlema thymr azdmnw lmkhr wthyklwn bsra ary bkythwn qdm yy lmymr mn yklnna bsra ary Tb lna bmtsrym wythn yy lkwn bsra wthyklwn
“Say to the people, ‘Sanctify yourselves in preparation for tomorrow, and you will eat meat; for you have wept in the ears of Yahweh, saying, “Who will give us meat to eat? For it was well with us in Egypt.” Therefore Yahweh will give you meat, and you will eat.
19
לא יומא חד תיכלון ולא תרין יומין ולא חמשא יומין ולא עשרא יומין ולא עשרין יומין:
la ywma khd thyklwn wla thryn ywmyn wla khmsha ywmyn wla eshra ywmyn wla eshryn ywmyn
You will not eat just one day, or two days, or five days, or ten days, or twenty days,

עד ירח יומין עד די תקוצון ביה ויהי לכון לתקלא חלף דקצתון ית מימרא דיי דשכנתיה שרית ביניכון ובכיתון קדמוהי למימר למא דנן נפקנא ממצרים:
ed yrkh ywmyn ed dy thqwtswn byh wyhy lkwn lthqla khlp dqtsthwn yth mymra dyy dshknthyh shryth bynykwn wbkythwn qdmwhy lmymr lma dnn npqna mmtsrym
but a whole month, until it comes out at your nostrils, and it is loathsome to you; because you have rejected Yahweh who is among you, and have wept before him, saying, “Why did we come out of Egypt?”’”

ואמר משה שית מאה אלפין גברא רגלאה עמא די אנא ביניהון ואת אמרת בסרא אתן להון וייכלון ירח יומין:
wamr mshh shyth mah alpyn gbra rglah ema dy ana bynyhwn wath amrth bsra athn lhwn wyyklwn yrkh ywmyn
Moses said, “The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand men on foot; and you have said, ‘I will give them meat, that they may eat a whole month.’

הען ותורין יתנכסון להון היספקון להון אם ית כל נוני ימא יתכנשון להון היספקון להון:
hen wthwryn ythnkswn lhwn hyspqwn lhwn am yth kl nwny yma ythknshwn lhwn hyspqwn lhwn
Shall flocks and herds be slaughtered for them, to be sufficient for them? Shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to be sufficient for them?”
23
ואמר יי למשה המימרא דיי יתעכב כען תחזי היערענך פתגמי אם לא:
wamr yy lmshh hmymra dyy ythekb ken thkhzy hyerenk pthgmy am la
Yahweh said to Moses, “Has Yahweh’s hand grown short? Now you will see whether my word will happen to you or not.”

ונפק משה ומליל לעמא ית פתגמיא דיי וכנש שבעין גברא מסבי עמא ואקם יתהון סחור סחור למשכנא:
wnpq mshh wmlyl lema yth pthgmya dyy wknsh shbeyn gbra msby ema waqm ythhwn skhwr skhwr lmshkna
Moses went out, and told the people Yahweh’s words; and he gathered seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them around the Tent.

ואתגלי יי בעננא ומליל עמיה ורבי מן רוחא די עלוהי ויהב על שבעין גברא סביא והוה כד שרת עליהון רוחא דנבואה ומתנבאין ולא פסקין:
wathgly yy benna wmlyl emyh wrby mn rwkha dy elwhy wyhb el shbeyn gbra sbya whwh kd shrth elyhwn rwkha dnbwah wmthnbayn wla psqyn
Yahweh came down in the cloud, and spoke to him, and took of the Spirit that was on him, and put it on the seventy elders. When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied, but they did so no more.

ואשתארו תרין גברין במשריתא שום חד אלדד ושום תנינא מידד ושרת עליהון רוחא דנבואה ואנון בכתיביא ולא נפקו למשכנא ואתנביאו במשריתא:
washtharw thryn gbryn bmshrytha shwm khd aldd wshwm thnyna mydd wshrth elyhwn rwkha dnbwah wanwn bkthybya wla npqw lmshkna wathnbyaw bmshrytha
But two men remained in the camp. The name of one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad; and the Spirit rested on them. They were of those who were written, but had not gone out to the Tent; and they prophesied in the camp.

ורהט עולמא וחוי למשה ואמר אלדד ומידד מתנבאין במשריתא:
wrhT ewlma wkhwy lmshh wamr aldd wmydd mthnbayn bmshrytha
A young man ran, and told Moses, and said, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp!”
28
ואתב יהושע בר נון משמשניה דמשה מעולמותיה ואמר רבוני משה אסרנון:
wathb yhwshe br nwn mshmshnyh dmshh mewlmwthyh wamr rbwny mshh asrnwn
Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his chosen men, answered, “My lord Moses, forbid them!”

ואמר ליה משה הקנאתי את מקני לי רעינא פון דיהון כל עמא דיי נביאין ארי יתן יי ית רוח נבואתיה עליהון:
wamr lyh mshh hqnathy ath mqny ly reyna pwn dyhwn kl ema dyy nbyayn ary ythn yy yth rwkh nbwathyh elyhwn
Moses said to him, “Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all Yahweh’s people were prophets, that Yahweh would put his Spirit on them!”

ואתכנש משה למשריתא הוא וסבי ישראל:
wathknsh mshh lmshrytha hwa wsby yshral
Moses went into the camp, he and the elders of Israel.
31
ורוחא נטל מן קדם יי ואפרח שליו מן ימא ורמא על משריתא כמהלך יומא לכא וכמהלך יומא לכא סחור סחור למשריתא וכרום תרתין אמין על אפי ארעא:
wrwkha nTl mn qdm yy waprkh shlyw mn yma wrma el mshrytha kmhlk ywma lka wkmhlk ywma lka skhwr skhwr lmshrytha wkrwm thrthyn amyn el apy area
A wind from Yahweh went out and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, about a day’s journey on this side, and a day’s journey on the other side, around the camp, and about two cubits above the surface of the earth.
32
וקם עמא כל יומא ההוא וכל ליליא וכל יומא דבתרוהי וכנשו ית שליו דאזער כנש עשרא דגורין ושטחו להון משטיחין סחור סחור למשריתא:
wqm ema kl ywma hhwa wkl lylya wkl ywma dbthrwhy wknshw yth shlyw dazer knsh eshra dgwryn wshTkhw lhwn mshTykhyn skhwr skhwr lmshrytha
The people rose up all that day, and all of that night, and all the next day, and gathered the quails. He who gathered least gathered ten homers; and they spread them all out for themselves around the camp.
33
בסרא עד כען בין שניהון עד לא פסק ורגזא דיי תקיף בעמא וקטל יי בעמא קטול סגי לחדא:
bsra ed ken byn shnyhwn ed la psq wrgza dyy thqyp bema wqTl yy bema qTwl sgy lkhda
While the meat was still between their teeth, before it was chewed, Yahweh’s anger burned against the people, and Yahweh struck the people with a very great plague.
34
וקרא ית שמא דאתרא ההוא קברי דמשאלי ארי תמן קברו ית עמא דשאילו:
wqra yth shma dathra hhwa qbry dmshaly ary thmn qbrw yth ema dshaylw
The name of that place was called Kibroth Hattaavah, because there they buried the people who lusted.
35
מקברי דמשאלי נטלו עמא לחצרות והוו בחצרות:
mqbry dmshaly nTlw ema lkhtsrwth whww bkhtsrwth
From Kibroth Hattaavah the people traveled to Hazeroth; and they stayed at Hazeroth.
