ܗܝܕܝܢ ܟܕ ܐܫܬܡܥܬ ܡܠܬܐ ܠܣܡܒܠܝܛ ܘܠܛܘܒܝܐ ܘܠܓܫܘܡ ܥܪܒܝܐ ܘܠܫܪܟܐ ܕܒܥ̈ܠܕܒܒܝܢ ܕܒܢܝܢܝܗܝ ܠܫܘܪܐ ܘܠܐ ܒܗ ܬܘܪܥܬܐ ܘܥܕܡܐ ܠܗ ܠܙܒܢܐ ܗ̇ܘ ܦܪ̈ܘܣܬܕܐ ܕܬܪ̈ܥܐ ܥܕܟܝܠ ܠܐ ܐܩܝܡܝܢ
'qymyn l' edkyl dthre' prwsthd' hw lzbn' lh wedm' thwreth' bh wl' lshwr' dbnynyhy dbeldbbyn wlshrk' erby' wlgshwm wlTwby' lsmblyT mlth' 'shthmeth kd hydyn
Now when it was reported to Sanballat, Tobiah, Geshem the Arabian, and to the rest of our enemies that I had built the wall, and that there was no breach left in it (though even to that time I had not set up the doors in the gates),

ܘܫܕܪܘ ܠܘܬܝ ܣܡܒܠܝܛ ܘܓܫܘܡ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܝ ܬܐ ܢܐܙܠ ܐܟܚܕܐ ܘܢܫܪܐ ܐܝܟ ܓܝܣܐ ܒܦܩܥܬܐ ܕܐܝܢܘ ܘܗ̣ܢܘܢ ܡܬܪܥܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܡܥܒܕ ܠܝ ܒܝܫܬܐ
byshth' ly lmebd hww mthreyn whnwn d'ynw bpqeth' gys' 'yk wnshr' 'kkhd' n'zl th' ly w'mryn wgshwm smblyT lwthy wshdrw
Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, “Come! Let’s meet together in the villages in the plain of Ono.” But they intended to harm me.

ܘܫ̇ܕܪܬ ܠܘܬܗܘܢ ܡܠܐܟܐ ܘܐܡ̇ܪܬ ܠܗܘܢ ܥ̇ܒܕܐ ܪܒܐ ܥ̇ܒܕ ܐܢܐ ܘܠܐ ܡܫܟܚ ܐܢܐ ܠܡܚܬ ܕܠܡܐ ܢܒܛܠ ܟܕ ܐܪܦܐ ܘܐܚܘܬ ܠܘܬܟܘܢ
lwthkwn w'khwth 'rp' kd nbTl dlm' lmkhth 'n' mshkkh wl' 'n' ebd rb' ebd' lhwn w'mrth ml'k' lwthhwn wshdrth
I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work, so that I can’t come down. Why should the work cease while I leave it and come down to you?”

ܘܫܕܪܘ ܠܘܬܝ ܐܝܟ ܦܬܓܡܐ ܗܢܐ ܐܪܒܥ ܙܒ̈ܢܝܢ ܘܐܬܝ̇ܒܬ ܐܢܘܢ ܐܝܟ ܦܬܓܡܐ ܗܢܐ
hn' pthgm' 'yk 'nwn w'thybth zbnyn 'rbe hn' pthgm' 'yk lwthy wshdrw
They sent to me four times like this; and I answered them the same way.

ܘܫܕܪܘ ܠܘܬܝ ܣܡܒܠܝܛ ܐܝܟ ܦܬܓܡܐ ܗܢܐ ܒܙܒܢܬܐ ܚܡܝܫܝܬܐ ܠܥܠܝܡܗ ܘܐܓܪܬܐ ܒܐܝܕܗ
b'ydh w'grth' lelymh khmyshyth' bzbnth' hn' pthgm' 'yk smblyT lwthy wshdrw
Then Sanballat sent his servant to me the same way the fifth time with an open letter in his hand,

ܘܟܬܝܒ ܒܗ̇ ܒܥܡܡ̈ܐ ܐܫܬܡܥ ܘܓܫܘܡ ܐܡ̇ܪ ܐܢܬ ܘܝܗܘ̈ܕܝܐ ܡܬܪܥܝܢ ܠܡܡܪܕ ܡܛܠ ܗܢܐ ܐܢܬ ܒ̇ܢܐ ܫܘܪܐ ܘܐܢܬ ܗ̇ܘܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܡܠܟܐ ܐܝܟ ܦܬܓܡ̈ܐ ܗܠܝܢ
hlyn pthgm' 'yk mlk' lhwn hw' w'nth shwr' bn' 'nth hn' mTl lmmrd mthreyn wyhwdy' 'nth 'mr wgshwm 'shthme bemm' bh wkthyb
in which was written, “It is reported among the nations, and Gashmu says it, that you and the Jews intend to rebel. Because of that, you are building the wall. You would be their king, according to these words.

ܐܦ ܢܒܝ̈ܐ ܐܩܝܡܬ ܠܡܬܢܒܝܘ ܥܠܝܟ ܒܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܕܗܐ ܐܡܠܟ ܥܙܪܐ ܒܝܗܘܕ ܘܡܟܝܠ ܐܫܬܡܥ ܠܡ̇ܠܟܐ ܐܝܟ ܡ̈ܠܐ ܗܠܝܢ ܡܟܝܠ ܬܘ ܢܬܡܠܟ ܐܟܚܕܐ
'kkhd' nthmlk thw mkyl hlyn ml' 'yk lmlk' 'shthme wmkyl byhwd ezr' 'mlk dh' w'mryn b'wrshlm elyk lmthnbyw 'qymth nby' 'p
You have also appointed prophets to proclaim of you at Jerusalem, saying, ‘There is a king in Judah!’ Now it will be reported to the king according to these words. Come now therefore, and let’s take counsel together.”

ܘܫ̇ܕܪܬ ܠܘܬܗ ܘܐܡ̇ܪܬ ܠܗ ܠܐ ܫܦܝܪ ܕܢܗ̈ܘܝܢ ܐܝܟ ܡ̈ܠܐ ܗܠܝܢ ܕܐܢܬ ܐܡ̇ܪ ܡܛܠ ܕܡܢ ܠܒܟ ܐܢܬ ܐܡ̇ܪ ܠܗܝܢ
lhyn 'mr 'nth lbk dmn mTl 'mr d'nth hlyn ml' 'yk dnhwyn shpyr l' lh w'mrth lwthh wshdrth
Then I sent to him, saying, “There are no such things done as you say, but you imagine them out of your own heart.”

ܡܛܠ ܕܟܘܠܗܘܢ ܡܕܚܠܝܢ ܠܢ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܡܬܪ̈ܦܝܢ ܐܝܕܝ̈ܗܘܢ ܡܢ ܥܒܝܕܬܐ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܢ ܕܠܐ ܬܥܒܕܘܢ ܡܟܝܠ ܐܥܫܢ ܐܝ̈ܕܝ
'ydy 'eshn mkyl thebdwn dl' ln w'mryn ebydth' mn 'ydyhwn mthrpyn w'mryn ln mdkhlyn dkwlhwn mTl
For they all would have made us afraid, saying, “Their hands will be weakened from the work, that it not be done.” But now, strengthen my hands.

ܘܐܢܐ ܥ̇ܠܬ ܠܒܝܬ ܫܡܥܝܐ ܒܪ ܕܠܝܐ ܒܪ ܡܗܛܒܐܝܠ ܘܗܘ ܟ̇ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܘܐܡ̣ܪ ܠܝ ܬܐ ܢܬܘܥܕ ܠܒܝܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܠܓܘ ܗܝܟܠܐ ܘܢܐܚܘܕ ܬܪ̈ܥܐ ܕܗܝܟܠܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܬܝܢ ܠܡܩܛܠܟ ܘܒܠܠܝܐ ܐܬܝܢ ܠܡܩܛܠܟ

I went to the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah the son of Mehetabel, who was shut in at his home; and he said, “Let us meet together in God’s house, within the temple, and let’s shut the doors of the temple; for they will come to kill you. Yes, in the night they will come to kill you.”

ܘܐܡ̇ܪܬ ܓܒܪܐ ܕܐܟܘܬܝ ܢܥܪܘܩ ܚܣ ܠܝ ܕܐܥܪܘܩ ܘܐܥܘܠ ܠܗܝܟܠܐ
lhykl' w'ewl d'erwq ly khs nerwq d'kwthy gbr' w'mrth
I said, “Should a man like me flee? Who is there that, being such as I, would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in.”

ܚ̇ܟܡ ܐܢܐ ܕܝܢ ܕܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܫܕܪܗ ܥܠܝ ܘܐܦܠܐ ܒܝܕ ܢܒܝܐ ܐܬܐܡܪ ܠܝ ܕܩ̇ܛܠ ܠܝ ܛܘܒܝܐ ܘܣܡܒܠܝܛ ܘܚܒܪ̈ܘܗܝ ܐܓܪܘ ܘܫܕܪܘܗܝ ܥܠܝ ܠܡܩܛܠܢܝ
lmqTlny ely wshdrwhy 'grw wkhbrwhy wsmblyT Twby' ly dqTl ly 'th'mr nby' byd w'pl' ely shdrh 'lh' hw' dl' dyn 'n' khkm
I discerned, and behold, God had not sent him, but he pronounced this prophecy against me. Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.

ܡܛܠ ܕܐܓܝܪܐ ܗܘ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܕܚܠ ܘܐܥ̇ܒܕ ܗܟܢܐ ܘܐܚ̇ܛܐ ܘܐܗ̇ܘܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܠܫܡܐ ܒܝܫܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܢܚܣܕܘܢܢܝ

He was hired so that I would be afraid, do so, and sin, and that they might have material for an evil report, that they might reproach me.

ܐܬܕܟܪ ܐܠܗܝ ܠܛܘܒܝܐ ܘܠܣܡܒܠܝܛ ܘܠܚܒܪ̈ܘܗܝ ܐܝܟ ܥ̇ܒ̈ܕܝܗܘܢ ܗܠܝܢ ܣܢܝ̈ܐ ܐܦ ܠܝܘܕܥܝܐ ܢܒܝܐ ܐܦ ܠܫܪܟܐ ܕܢܒܝ̈ܐ ܕܗܘܘ ܡܕܚܠܝܢ ܠܝ ܡܢܗܘܢ
mnhwn ly mdkhlyn dhww dnby' lshrk' 'p nby' lywdey' 'p sny' hlyn ebdyhwn 'yk wlkhbrwhy wlsmblyT lTwby' 'lhy 'thdkr
“Remember, my God, Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works, and also the prophetess Noadiah and the rest of the prophets that would have put me in fear.”

ܘܫ̣ܠܡ ܫܘܪܐ ܒܚܡܫܐ ܘܥܣܪܝܢ ܒܐܝܠܘܠ ܠܚܡܫܝܢ ܘܬܪܝܢ ܝܘܡ̈ܝܢ
ywmyn wthryn lkhmshyn b'ylwl wesryn bkhmsh' shwr' wshlm
So the wall was finished in the twenty-fifth day of Elul, in fifty-two days.

ܗܝܕܝܢ ܟܕ ܫܡܥܘ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܒܥ̈ܠܕܒܒܝܢ ܕܚܠܘ ܟܘܠܗܘܢ ܥܡܡ̈ܐ ܕܚܕܪܝܢ ܘܙܥܘ ܛܒ ܡܢ ܩܕܡܝܢ ܘܝܕܥܘ ܕܡܢ ܩܕܡ ܐܠܗܐ ܐܬܥܒܕܬ ܥܒܝܕܬܐ ܗܕܐ
hd' ebydth' 'thebdth 'lh' qdm dmn wydew qdmyn mn Tb wzew dkhdryn emm' kwlhwn dkhlw beldbbyn klhwn shmew kd hydyn
When all our enemies heard of it, all the nations that were around us were afraid, and they lost their confidence; for they perceived that this work was done by our God.

ܐܦ ܒܝܘܡ̈ܬܐ ܗ̇ܢܘܢ ܡܣܓܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܪ̈ܘܪܒܢܐ ܕܝܗܘ̈ܕܝܐ ܐܓܪ̈ܬܗܘܢ ܘܐܙ̈ܠܢ ܗܘ̈ܝ ܠܘܬ ܛܘܒܝܐ ܘܐܓܪ̈ܬܗ ܕܛܘܒܝܐ ܐܬܝ̈ܢ ܗܘ̈ܝ ܠܘܬܗܘܢ
lwthhwn hwy 'thyn dTwby' w'grthh Twby' lwth hwy w'zln 'grthhwn dyhwdy' rwrbn' hww msgyn hnwn bywmth' 'p
Moreover in those days the nobles of Judah sent many letters to Tobiah, and Tobiah’s letters came to them.

ܡܛܠ ܕܣܓܝܐ̈ܐ ܗܘܘ ܒܝܗܘܕ ܐܢܫܐ ܕܝܡܘ ܠܗ ܕܠܐ ܢܗܪܘܢܗ ܡܛܠ ܕܚܬܢܐ ܗܘܐ ܕܫܟܢܝܐ ܒܪ ܐܪܚ ܘܝܘܚܢܢ ܒܪܗ ܢ̣ܣܒ ܠܒܪܬ ܡܫܠܘܡ ܒܪ ܒܪܟܝܐ
brky' br mshlwm lbrth nsb brh wywkhnn 'rkh br dshkny' hw' dkhthn' mTl nhrwnh dl' lh dymw 'nsh' byhwd hww dsgy'' mTl
For there were many in Judah sworn to him because he was the son-in-law of Shecaniah the son of Arah; and his son Jehohanan had taken the daughter of Meshullam the son of Berechiah as wife.

ܐܦ ܡ̈ܠܘܗܝ ܛܒ̈ܬܐ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܩܕܡܝ ܘܡܠܬܐ ܕܐܡ̇ܪ ܗ̇ܘܝܬ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܗ ܘܐܓܪ̈ܬܐ ܡܫܕܪ ܗܘܐ ܗܘ ܛܘܒܝܐ ܠܡܕܚܠܘܬܢܝ

Also they spoke of his good deeds before me, and reported my words to him. Tobiah sent letters to put me in fear.
