ܒܗܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܒܝܘܡܬܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܐܬܐ ܝܘܚܢܢ ܡܥܡܕܢܐ ܘܡܟܪܙ ܗܘܐ ܒܚܘܪܒܐ ܕܝܗܘܕ
dyhwd bkhwrb' hw' wmkrz memdn' ywkhnn 'th' hnwn bywmth' dyn bhwn
In those days, John the Baptizer came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying,

ܘܐܡܪ ܬܘܒܘ ܩܪܒܬ ܠܗ ܡܠܟܘܬܐ ܕܫܡܝܐ
dshmy' mlkwth' lh qrbth thwbw w'mr
“Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!”

ܗܢܘ ܓܝܪ ܗܘ ܕܐܡܝܪ ܒܝܕ ܐܫܥܝܐ ܢܒܝܐ ܩܠܐ ܕܩܪܐ ܒܚܘܪܒܐ ܛܝܒܘ ܐܘܪܚܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܘܐܫܘܘ ܠܫܒܝܠܘܗܝ
lshbylwhy w'shww dmry' 'wrkhh Tybw bkhwrb' dqr' ql' nby' 'shey' byd d'myr hw gyr hnw
For this is he who was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, make ready the way of the Lord. Make his paths straight.”

ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܝܘܚܢܢ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܗܘܐ ܠܒܘܫܗ ܕܣܥܪܐ ܕܓܡܠܐ ܘܐܣܪ ܚܨܐ ܕܡܫܟܐ ܥܠ ܚܨܘܗܝ ܘܡܐܟܘܠܬܗ ܩܡܨܐ ܘܕܒܫܐ ܕܒܪܐ
dbr' wdbsh' qmts' wm'kwlthh khtswhy el dmshk' khts' w'sr dgml' dser' lbwshh hw' 'ythwhy ywkhnn dyn hw
Now John himself wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.

ܗܝܕܝܢ ܢܦܩܐ ܗܘܬ ܠܘܬܗ ܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܘܟܠܗ ܝܗܘܕ ܘܟܠܗ ܐܬܪܐ ܕܚܕܪܝ ܝܘܪܕܢܢ
ywrdnn dkhdry 'thr' wklh yhwd wklh 'wrshlm lwthh hwth npq' hydyn
Then people from Jerusalem, all of Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him.

ܘܥܡܕܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܡܢܗ ܒܝܘܪܕܢܢ ܢܗܪܐ ܟܕ ܡܘܕܝܢ ܒܚܛܗܝܗܘܢ
bkhThyhwn mwdyn kd nhr' bywrdnn mnh hww wemdyn
They were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.

ܟܕ ܚܙܐ ܕܝܢ ܣܓܝܐܐ ܡܢ ܦܪܝܫܐ ܘܡܢ ܙܕܘܩܝܐ ܕܐܬܝܢ ܠܡܥܡܕ ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܝܠܕܐ ܕܐܟܕܢܐ ܡܢܘ ܚܘܝܟܘܢ ܠܡܥܪܩ ܡܢ ܪܘܓܙܐ ܕܐܬܐ
d'th' rwgz' mn lmerq khwykwn mnw d'kdn' yld' lhwn 'mr lmemd d'thyn zdwqy' wmn prysh' mn sgy'' dyn khz' kd
But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for his baptism, he said to them, “You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

ܥܒܕܘ ܗܟܝܠ ܦܐܪܐ ܕܫܘܝܢ ܠܬܝܒܘܬܐ
lthybwth' dshwyn p'r' hkyl ebdw
Therefore produce fruit worthy of repentance!

ܘܠܐ ܬܣܒܪܘܢ ܘܬܐܡܪܘܢ ܒܢܦܫܟܘܢ ܕܐܒܐ ܐܝܬ ܠܢ ܐܒܪܗܡ ܐܡܪ ܐܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܓܝܪ ܕܡܫܟܚ ܐܠܗܐ ܡܢ ܗܠܝܢ ܟܐܦܐ ܠܡܩܡܘ ܒܢܝܐ ܠܐܒܪܗܡ
l'brhm bny' lmqmw k'p' hlyn mn 'lh' dmshkkh gyr lkwn 'n' 'mr 'brhm ln 'yth d'b' bnpshkwn wth'mrwn thsbrwn wl'
Don’t think to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham for our father,’ for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.

ܗܐ ܕܝܢ ܢܪܓܐ ܣܝܡ ܥܠ ܥܩܪܐ ܕܐܝܠܢܐ ܟܠ ܐܝܠܢܐ ܗܟܝܠ ܕܦܐܪܐ ܛܒܐ ܠܐ ܥܒܕ ܡܬܦܣܩ ܘܢܦܠ ܒܢܘܪܐ
bnwr' wnpl mthpsq ebd l' Tb' dp'r' hkyl 'yln' kl d'yln' eqr' el sym nrg' dyn h'
“Even now the ax lies at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.

ܐܢܐ ܡܥܡܕ ܐܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܒܡܝܐ ܠܬܝܒܘܬܐ ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܕܒܬܪܝ ܐܬܐ ܚܣܝܢ ܗܘ ܡܢܝ ܗܘ ܕܠܐ ܫܘܐ ܐܢܐ ܡܣܢܘܗܝ ܠܡܫܩܠ ܗܘ ܡܥܡܕ ܠܟܘܢ ܒܪܘܚܐ ܕܩܘܕܫܐ ܘܒܢܘܪܐ
wbnwr' dqwdsh' brwkh' lkwn memd hw lmshql msnwhy 'n' shw' dl' hw mny hw khsyn 'th' dbthry dyn hw lthybwth' bmy' lkwn 'n' memd 'n'
I indeed baptize you in water for repentance, but he who comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit.

ܗܘ ܕܪܦܫܐ ܒܐܝܕܗ ܘܡܕܟܐ ܐܕܪܘܗܝ ܘܚܛܐ ܟܢܫ ܠܐܘܨܪܘܗܝ ܘܬܒܢܐ ܡܘܩܕ ܒܢܘܪܐ ܕܠܐ ܕܥܟܐ
dek' dl' bnwr' mwqd wthbn' l'wtsrwhy knsh wkhT' 'drwhy wmdk' b'ydh drpsh' hw
His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor. He will gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.”

ܗܝܕܝܢ ܐܬܐ ܝܫܘܥ ܡܢ ܓܠܝܠܐ ܠܝܘܪܕܢܢ ܠܘܬ ܝܘܚܢܢ ܕܢܥܡܕ ܡܢܗ
mnh dnemd ywkhnn lwth lywrdnn glyl' mn yshwe 'th' hydyn
Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him.

ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܝܘܚܢܢ ܟܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܘܐܡܪ ܐܢܐ ܣܢܝܩ ܐܢܐ ܕܡܢܟ ܐܬܥܡܕ ܘܐܢܬ ܠܘܬܝ ܐܬܝܬ
'thyth lwthy w'nth 'themd dmnk 'n' snyq 'n' w'mr lh hw' kl' ywkhnn dyn hw
But John would have hindered him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and you come to me?”

ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܥܢܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܫܒܘܩ ܗܫܐ ܗܟܢܐ ܓܝܪ ܝܐܐ ܠܢ ܕܢܡܠܐ ܟܠܗ ܟܐܢܘܬܐ ܘܗܝܕܝܢ ܫܒܩܗ
shbqh whydyn k'nwth' klh dnml' ln y'' gyr hkn' hsh' shbwq lh w'mr en' yshwe dyn hw
But Jesus, answering, said to him, “Allow it now, for this is the fitting way for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed him.

ܟܕ ܥܡܕ ܕܝܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܡܚܕܐ ܣܠܩ ܡܢ ܡܝܐ ܘܐܬܦܬܚܘ ܠܗ ܫܡܝܐ ܘܚܙܐ ܪܘܚܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܕܢܚܬܐ ܐܝܟ ܝܘܢܐ ܘܐܬܬ ܥܠܘܗܝ

Jesus, when he was baptized, went up directly from the water: and behold, the heavens were opened to him. He saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming on him.

ܘܗܐ ܩܠܐ ܡܢ ܫܡܝܐ ܕܐܡܪ ܗܢܘ ܒܪܝ ܚܒܝܒܐ ܕܒܗ ܐܨܛܒܝܬ
'tsTbyth dbh khbyb' bry hnw d'mr shmy' mn ql' wh'
Behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
