ܟܕ ܕܝܢ ܗܘܐ ܨܦܪܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܢܣܒܘ ܥܠ ܝܫܘܥ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܪܒܝ ܟܗܢܐ ܘܩܫܝܫܐ ܕܥܡܐ ܐܝܟ ܕܢܡܝܬܘܢܝܗܝ

Now when morning had come, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:

ܘܐܣܪܘܗܝ ܘܐܘܒܠܘܗܝ ܘܐܫܠܡܘܗܝ ܠܦܝܠܛܘܣ ܗܓܡܘܢܐ

and they bound him, and led him away, and delivered him up to Pontius Pilate, the governor.

ܗܝܕܝܢ ܝܗܘܕܐ ܡܫܠܡܢܐ ܟܕ ܚܙܐ ܕܐܬܚܝܒ ܝܫܘܥ ܐܬܬܘܝ ܘܐܙܠ ܐܗܦܟ ܗܠܝܢ ܬܠܬܝܢ ܕܟܣܦܐ ܠܪܒܝ ܟܗܢܐ ܘܠܩܫܝܫܐ

Then Judas, who betrayed him, when he saw that Jesus was condemned, felt remorse, and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,

ܘܐܡܪ ܚܛܝܬ ܕܐܫܠܡܬ ܕܡܐ ܙܟܝܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܐܡܪܘ ܠܗ ܠܢ ܡܐ ܠܢ ܐܢܬ ܝܕܥ ܐܢܬ

saying, “I have sinned in that I betrayed innocent blood.”
But they said, “What is that to us? You see to it.”

ܘܫܕܝܗܝ ܟܣܦܐ ܒܗܝܟܠܐ ܘܫܢܝ ܘܐܙܠ ܚܢܩ ܢܦܫܗ

He threw down the pieces of silver in the sanctuary, and departed. He went away and hanged himself.

ܪܒܝ ܟܗܢܐ ܕܝܢ ܫܩܠܘܗܝ ܠܟܣܦܐ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܐ ܫܠܝܛ ܕܢܪܡܝܘܗܝ ܒܝܬ ܩܘܪܒܢܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܛܝܡܝ ܕܡܐ ܗܘ

The chief priests took the pieces of silver, and said, “It’s not lawful to put them into the treasury, since it is the price of blood.”

ܘܢܣܒܘ ܡܠܟܐ ܘܙܒܢܘ ܒܗ ܐܓܘܪܣܗ ܕܦܚܪܐ ܠܒܝܬ ܩܒܘܪܐ ܕܐܟܣܢܝܐ
wnsbw mlk' wzbnw bh 'gwrsh dpkhr' lbyth qbwr' d'ksny'
They took counsel, and bought the potter’s field with them, to bury strangers in.

ܡܛܠ ܗܢܐ ܐܬܩܪܝ ܐܓܘܪܣܐ ܗܘ ܩܪܝܬܐ ܕܕܡܐ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܝܘܡܢܐ
mTl hn' 'thqry 'gwrs' hw qryth' ddm' edm' lywmn'
Therefore that field was called “The Field of Blood” to this day.

ܗܝܕܝܢ ܐܬܡܠܝ ܡܕܡ ܕܐܬܐܡܪ ܒܝܕ ܢܒܝܐ ܕܐܡܪ ܕܢܣܒܬ ܬܠܬܝܢ ܕܟܣܦܐ ܕܡܘܗܝ ܕܝܩܝܪܐ ܕܩܨܘ ܡܢ ܒܢܝ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ
hydyn 'thmly mdm d'th'mr byd nby' d'mr dnsbth thlthyn dksp' dmwhy dyqyr' dqtsw mn bny 'ysryl
Then that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled, saying,
“They took the thirty pieces of silver,
the price of him upon whom a price had been set,
whom some of the children of Israel priced,

ܘܝܗܒܬ ܐܢܘܢ ܠܐܓܘܪܣܗ ܕܦܚܪܐ ܐܝܟ ܕܦܩܕ ܠܝ ܡܪܝܐ

and they gave them for the potter’s field,
as the Lord commanded me.”

ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܩܡ ܩܕܡ ܗܓܡܘܢܐ ܘܫܐܠܗ ܗܓܡܘܢܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܐܢܬ ܗܘ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܝܫܘܥ ܐܢܬ ܐܡܪܬ
hw dyn yshwe qm qdm hgmwn' wsh'lh hgmwn' w'mr lh 'nth hw mlk' dyhwdy' 'mr lh yshwe 'nth 'mrth
Now Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, “Are you the King of the Jews?”
Jesus said to him,
“So you say.”

ܘܟܕ ܐܟܠܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܩܪܨܘܗܝ ܪܒܝ ܟܗܢܐ ܘܩܫܝܫܐ ܡܕܡ ܦܬܓܡܐ ܗܘ ܠܐ ܦܢܝ

When he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.

ܗܝܕܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܦܝܠܛܘܣ ܠܐ ܫܡܥ ܐܢܬ ܟܡܐ ܡܣܗܕܝܢ ܥܠܝܟ

Then Pilate said to him, “Don’t you hear how many things they testify against you?”

ܘܠܐ ܝܗܒ ܠܗ ܦܬܓܡܐ ܘܠܐ ܒܚܕܐ ܡܠܐ ܘܥܠ ܗܕܐ ܐܬܕܡܪ ܛܒ

He gave him no answer, not even one word, so that the governor marveled greatly.

ܒܟܠ ܥܐܕܐ ܕܝܢ ܡܥܕ ܗܘܐ ܗܓܡܘܢܐ ܕܢܫܪܐ ܐܣܝܪܐ ܚܕ ܠܥܡܐ ܐܝܢܐ ܕܗܢܘܢ ܨܒܝܢ ܗܘܘ

Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to release to the multitude one prisoner, whom they desired.

ܐܣܝܪ ܗܘܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܐܣܝܪܐ ܝܕܝܥܐ ܕܡܬܩܪܐ ܒܪ-ܐܒܐ
'syr hw' lhwn dyn 'syr' ydye' dmthqr' br-'b'
They had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.

ܘܟܕ ܟܢܝܫܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܦܝܠܛܘܣ ܠܡܢ ܨܒܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܐܫܪܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܠܒܪ-ܐܒܐ ܐܘ ܠܝܫܘܥ ܕܡܬܩܪܐ ܡܫܝܚܐ

When therefore they were gathered together, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release to you? Barabbas, or Jesus, who is called Christ?”

ܝܕܥ ܗܘܐ ܓܝܪ ܦܝܠܛܘܣ ܕܡܢ ܚܣܡܐ ܐܫܠܡܘܗܝ

For he knew that because of envy they had delivered him up.

ܟܕ ܝܬܒ ܕܝܢ ܗܓܡܘܢܐ ܥܠ ܒܝܡ ܕܝܠܗ ܫܠܚܬ ܠܗ ܐܢܬܬܗ ܘܐܡܪܐ ܠܗ ܠܐ ܠܟ ܘܠܗܘ ܙܕܝܩܐ ܣܓܝ ܓܝܪ ܚܫܬ ܒܚܠܡܝ ܝܘܡܢܐ ܡܛܠܬܗ

While he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, “Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered many things today in a dream because of him.”

ܪܒܝ ܟܗܢܐ ܕܝܢ ܘܩܫܝܫܐ ܐܦܝܣܘ ܠܟܢܫܐ ܕܢܫܐܠܘܢ ܠܒܪ-ܐܒܐ ܠܝܫܘܥ ܕܝܢ ܕܢܘܒܕܘܢ
rby khn' dyn wqshysh' 'pysw lknsh' dnsh'lwn lbr-'b' lyshwe dyn dnwbdwn
Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the multitudes to ask for Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.

ܘܥܢܐ ܗܓܡܘܢܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܠܡܢ ܨܒܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܐܫܪܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܡܢ ܬܪܝܗܘܢ ܗܢܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܐܡܪܘ ܠܒܪ-ܐܒܐ
wen' hgmwn' w'mr lhwn lmn tsbyn 'nthwn d'shr' lkwn mn thryhwn hnwn dyn 'mrw lbr-'b'
But the governor answered them, “Which of the two do you want me to release to you?”
They said, “Barabbas!”

ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܦܝܠܛܘܣ ܘܠܝܫܘܥ ܕܡܬܩܪܐ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܡܢܐ ܐܥܒܕ ܠܗ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܢܙܕܩܦ
'mr lhwn pylTws wlyshwe dmthqr' mshykh' mn' 'ebd lh 'mryn klhwn nzdqp
Pilate said to them, “What then shall I do to Jesus, who is called Christ?”
They all said to him, “Let him be crucified!”

ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܗܓܡܘܢܐ ܡܢܐ ܓܝܪ ܕܒܝܫ ܥܒܕ ܗܢܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܝܬܝܪܐܝܬ ܩܥܘ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܢܙܕܩܦ
'mr lhwn hgmwn' mn' gyr dbysh ebd hnwn dyn ythyr'yth qew w'mrw nzdqp
But the governor said, “Why? What evil has he done?”
But they cried out exceedingly, saying, “Let him be crucified!”

ܦܝܠܛܘܣ ܕܝܢ ܟܕ ܚܙܐ ܕܡܕܡ ܠܐ ܡܘܬܪ ܐܠܐ ܝܬܝܪܐܝܬ ܪܘܒܐ ܗܘܐ ܫܩܠ ܡܝܐ ܐܫܝܓ ܐܝܕܘܗܝ ܠܥܝܢ ܟܢܫܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܡܚܣܝ ܐܢܐ ܡܢ ܕܡܗ ܕܗܢܐ ܙܕܝܩܐ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܬܕܥܘܢ

So when Pilate saw that nothing was being gained, but rather that a disturbance was starting, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, “I am innocent of the blood of this righteous person. You see to it.”

ܘܥܢܘ ܟܠܗ ܥܡܐ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܕܡܗ ܥܠܝܢ ܘܥܠ ܒܢܝܢ

All the people answered, “May his blood be on us, and on our children!”

ܗܝܕܝܢ ܫܪܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܠܒܪ-ܐܒܐ ܘܢܓܕ ܒܦܪܓܠܐ ܠܝܫܘܥ ܘܐܫܠܡܗ ܕܢܙܕܩܦ

Then he released to them Barabbas, but Jesus he flogged and delivered to be crucified.

ܗܝܕܝܢ ܐܣܛܪܛܝܘܛܐ ܕܗܓܡܘܢܐ ܕܒܪܘܗܝ ܠܝܫܘܥ ܠܦܪܛܘܪܝܢ ܘܟܢܫܘ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܠܟܠܗ ܐܣܦܝܪ

Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium, and gathered the whole garrison together against him.

ܘܐܫܠܚܘܗܝ ܘܐܠܒܫܘܗܝ ܟܠܡܝܣ ܕܙܚܘܪܝܬܐ

They stripped him, and put a scarlet robe on him.

ܘܓܕܠܘ ܟܠܝܠܐ ܕܥܘܙܢܝܐ ܘܣܡܘ ܒܪܫܗ ܘܩܢܝܐ ܒܝܡܝܢܗ ܘܒܪܟܘ ܥܠ ܒܘܪܟܝܗܘܢ ܩܕܡܘܗܝ ܘܡܒܙܚܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܒܗ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܫܠܡ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܝܐ

They braided a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they kneeled down before him, and mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”

ܘܪܩܘ ܒܦܪܨܘܦܗ ܘܫܩܠܘ ܩܢܝܐ ܘܡܚܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܗ ܥܠ ܪܫܗ

They spat on him, and took the reed and struck him on the head.

ܘܟܕ ܒܙܚܘ ܒܗ ܐܫܠܚܘܗܝ ܟܠܡܝܣ ܘܐܠܒܫܘܗܝ ܢܚܬܘܗܝ ܘܐܘܒܠܘܗܝ ܕܢܙܕܩܦ
wkd bzkhw bh 'shlkhwhy klmys w'lbshwhy nkhthwhy w'wblwhy dnzdqp
When they had mocked him, they took the robe off him, and put his clothes on him, and led him away to crucify him.

ܘܟܕ ܢܦܩܝܢ ܐܫܟܚܘ ܓܒܪܐ ܩܘܪܝܢܝܐ ܕܫܡܗ ܫܡܥܘܢ ܠܗܢܐ ܫܚܪܘ ܕܢܫܩܘܠ ܙܩܝܦܗ

As they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name, and they compelled him to go with them, that he might carry his cross.

ܘܐܬܘ ܠܕܘܟܬܐ ܕܡܬܩܪܝܐ ܓܓܘܠܬܐ ܗܝ ܕܡܬܦܫܩܐ ܩܪܩܦܬܐ

When they came to a place called “Golgotha”, that is to say, “The place of a skull,”

ܘܝܗܒܘ ܠܗ ܕܢܫܬܐ ܚܠܐ ܕܚܠܝܛ ܒܡܪܪܬܐ ܘܛܥܡ ܘܠܐ ܨܒܐ ܠܡܫܬܐ

they gave him sour wine to drink mixed with gall. When he had tasted it, he would not drink.

ܘܟܕ ܙܩܦܘܗܝ ܦܠܓܘ ܢܚܬܘܗܝ ܒܦܣܐ

When they had crucified him, they divided his clothing among them, casting lots,

ܘܝܬܒܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܘܢܛܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܬܡܢ
wythbyn hww wnTryn lh thmn
and they sat and watched him there.

ܘܣܡܘ ܠܥܠ ܡܢ ܪܫܗ ܥܠܬܐ ܕܡܘܬܗ ܒܟܬܒܐ ܗܢܘ ܝܫܘܥ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܝܐ
wsmw lel mn rshh elth' dmwthh bkthb' hnw yshwe mlk' dyhwdy'
They set up over his head the accusation against him written, “THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS.”

ܘܐܙܕܩܦܘ ܥܡܗ ܬܪܝܢ ܠܣܛܝܐ ܚܕ ܡܢ ܝܡܝܢܗ ܘܚܕ ܡܢ ܣܡܠܗ

Then there were two robbers crucified with him, one on his right hand and one on the left.

ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܝܢ ܕܥܒܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܡܓܕܦܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܘܡܢܝܕܝܢ ܪܫܝܗܘܢ
'ylyn dyn debryn hww mgdpyn hww elwhy wmnydyn rshyhwn
Those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads,
40
ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܣܬܪ ܗܝܟܠܐ ܘܒܢܐ ܠܗ ܠܬܠܬܐ ܝܘܡܝܢ ܦܨܐ ܢܦܫܟ ܐܢ ܒܪܗ ܐܢܬ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܘܚܘܬ ܡܢ ܙܩܝܦܐ
w'mryn sthr hykl' wbn' lh lthlth' ywmyn pts' npshk 'n brh 'nth d'lh' wkhwth mn zqyp'
and saying, “You who destroy the temple, and build it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross!”

ܗܟܘܬ ܐܦ ܪܒܝ ܟܗܢܐ ܡܒܙܚܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܥܡ ܣܦܪܐ ܘܩܫܝܫܐ ܘܦܪܝܫܐ

Likewise the chief priests also mocking, with the scribes, the Pharisees, and the elders, said,

ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܐܚܪܢܐ ܐܚܝ ܢܦܫܗ ܠܐ ܡܫܟܚ ܠܡܚܝܘ ܐܢ ܡܠܟܗ ܗܘ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܢܚܘܬ ܗܫܐ ܡܢ ܙܩܝܦܐ ܘܢܗܝܡܢ ܒܗ
w'mryn l'khrn' 'khy npshh l' mshkkh lmkhyw 'n mlkh hw d'ysryl nkhwth hsh' mn zqyp' wnhymn bh
“He saved others, but he can’t save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him come down from the cross now, and we will believe in him.

ܬܟܝܠ ܥܠ ܐܠܗܐ ܢܦܪܩܝܘܗܝ ܗܫܐ ܐܢ ܨܒܐ ܒܗ ܐܡܪ ܓܝܪ ܕܒܪܗ ܐܢܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ
thkyl el 'lh' nprqywhy hsh' 'n tsb' bh 'mr gyr dbrh 'n' d'lh'
He trusts in God. Let God deliver him now, if he wants him; for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”

ܗܟܘܬ ܐܦ ܓܝܣܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܕܐܙܕܩܦܘ ܥܡܗ ܡܚܣܕܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܗ

The robbers also who were crucified with him cast on him the same reproach.

ܡܢ ܫܬ ܫܥܝܢ ܕܝܢ ܗܘܐ ܚܫܘܟܐ ܥܠ ܟܠܗ ܐܪܥܐ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܫܥܐ ܬܫܥ
mn shth sheyn dyn hw' khshwk' el klh 're' edm' lshe' thshe
Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.

ܘܠܐܦܝ ܬܫܥ ܫܥܝܢ ܩܥܐ ܝܫܘܥ ܒܩܠܐ ܪܡܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܐܝܠ ܐܝܠ ܠܡܢܐ ܫܒܩܬܢܝ
wl'py thshe sheyn qe' yshwe bql' rm' w'mr 'yl 'yl lmn' shbqthny
About the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying,
“Eli, Eli, lima
sabachthani?”
That is,
“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

ܐܢܫܝܢ ܕܝܢ ܡܢ ܗܢܘܢ ܕܩܝܡܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܬܡܢ ܟܕ ܫܡܥܘ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܗܢܐ ܠܐܠܝܐ ܩܪܐ
'nshyn dyn mn hnwn dqymyn hww thmn kd shmew 'mryn hww hn' l'ly' qr'
Some of them who stood there, when they heard it, said, “This man is calling Elijah.”

ܘܒܗ ܒܫܥܬܐ ܪܗܛ ܚܕ ܡܢܗܘܢ ܘܫܩܠ ܐܣܦܘܓܐ ܘܡܠܗ ܚܠܐ ܘܣܡܗ ܒܩܢܝܐ ܘܡܫܩܐ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ

Immediately one of them ran, and took a sponge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him a drink.

ܫܪܟܐ ܕܝܢ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܫܒܘܩܘ ܢܚܙܐ ܐܢ ܐܬܐ ܐܠܝܐ ܠܡܦܪܩܗ
shrk' dyn 'mryn hww shbwqw nkhz' 'n 'th' 'ly' lmprqh
The rest said, “Let him be. Let’s see whether Elijah comes to save him.”

The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised;

and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection, they entered into the holy city and appeared to many.

Now the centurion, and those who were with him watching Jesus, when they saw the earthquake, and the things that were done, feared exceedingly, saying, “Truly this was the Son of God.”

Many women were there watching from afar, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, serving him.

This man went to Pilate, and asked for Jesus’ body. Then Pilate commanded the body to be given up.

Command therefore that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest perhaps his disciples come at night and steal him away, and tell the people, ‘He is risen from the dead;’ and the last deception will be worse than the first.”

Pilate said to them, “You have a guard. Go, make it as secure as you can.”

So they went with the guard and made the tomb secure, sealing the stone.
