ܘܥܢܐ ܬܘܒ ܝܫܘܥ ܒܡܬܠܐ ܘܐܡܪ

Jesus answered and spoke to them again in parables, saying,

ܐܬܕܡܝܬ ܡܠܟܘܬܐ ܕܫܡܝܐ ܠܓܒܪܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܥܒܕ ܡܫܬܘܬܐ ܠܒܪܗ
'thdmyth mlkwth' dshmy' lgbr' mlk' debd mshthwth' lbrh
“The Kingdom of Heaven is like a certain king, who made a marriage feast for his son,

ܘܫܕܪ ܠܥܒܕܘܗܝ ܕܢܩܪܘܢ ܠܡܙܡܢܐ ܠܡܫܬܘܬܐ ܘܠܐ ܨܒܘ ܠܡܐܬܐ
wshdr lebdwhy dnqrwn lmzmn' lmshthwth' wl' tsbw lm'th'
and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the marriage feast, but they would not come.

ܬܘܒ ܫܕܪ ܥܒܕܐ ܐܚܪܢܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܐܡܪܘ ܠܡܙܡܢܐ ܕܗܐ ܫܪܘܬܝ ܡܛܝܒܐ ܘܬܘܪܝ ܘܡܦܛܡܝ ܩܛܝܠܝܢ ܘܟܠ ܡܕܡ ܡܛܝܒ ܬܘ ܠܡܫܬܘܬܐ

Again he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “Behold, I have prepared my dinner. My cattle and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the marriage feast!”’

ܗܢܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܒܣܘ ܘܐܙܠܘ ܐܝܬ ܕܠܩܪܝܬܗ ܘܐܝܬ ܕܠܬܐܓܘܪܬܗ
hnwn dyn bsw w'zlw 'yth dlqrythh w'yth dlth'gwrthh
But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his merchandise,

ܫܪܟܐ ܕܝܢ ܐܚܕܘ ܠܥܒܕܘܗܝ ܘܨܥܪܘ ܘܩܛܠܘ

and the rest grabbed his servants, and treated them shamefully, and killed them.

ܟܕ ܫܡܥ ܕܝܢ ܡܠܟܐ ܪܓܙ ܘܫܕܪ ܚܝܠܘܬܗ ܐܘܒܕ ܠܩܛܘܠܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܘܠܡܕܝܢܬܗܘܢ ܐܘܩܕ
kd shme dyn mlk' rgz wshdr khylwthh 'wbd lqTwl' hnwn wlmdynthhwn 'wqd
When the king heard that, he was angry, and sent his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.

ܗܝܕܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܠܥܒܕܘܗܝ ܡܫܬܘܬܐ ܡܛܝܒܐ ܘܗܢܘܢ ܕܡܙܡܢܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܐ ܫܘܝܢ ܗܘܘ
hydyn 'mr lebdwhy mshthwth' mTyb' whnwn dmzmnyn hww l' shwyn hww
“Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited weren’t worthy.

ܙܠܘ ܗܟܝܠ ܠܡܦܩܢܐ ܕܐܘܪܚܬܐ ܘܟܠ ܡܢ ܕܡܫܟܚܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܩܪܘ ܠܡܫܬܘܬܐ
zlw hkyl lmpqn' d'wrkhth' wkl mn dmshkkhyn 'nthwn qrw lmshthwth'
Go therefore to the intersections of the highways, and as many as you may find, invite to the marriage feast.’

ܘܢܦܩܘ ܥܒܕܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܠܐܘܪܚܬܐ ܘܟܢܫܘ ܟܠ ܕܐܫܟܚܘ ܒܝܫܐ ܘܛܒܐ ܘܐܬܡܠܝ ܒܝܬ ܡܫܬܘܬܐ ܣܡܝܟܐ
wnpqw ebd' hnwn l'wrkhth' wknshw kl d'shkkhw bysh' wTb' w'thmly byth mshthwth' smyk'
Those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together as many as they found, both bad and good. The wedding was filled with guests.

ܘܥܠ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܢܚܙܐ ܣܡܝܟܐ ܘܚܙܐ ܬܡܢ ܓܒܪܐ ܕܠܐ ܠܒܝܫ ܠܒܘܫܐ ܕܡܫܬܘܬܐ
wel mlk' dnkhz' smyk' wkhz' thmn gbr' dl' lbysh lbwsh' dmshthwth'
But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who didn’t have on wedding clothing,

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܚܒܪܝ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܥܠܬ ܠܟܐ ܟܕ ܢܚܬܐ ܕܡܫܬܘܬܐ ܠܝܬ ܠܟ ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܐܫܬܬܩ

and he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here not wearing wedding clothing?’ He was speechless.

ܗܝܕܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܡܠܟܐ ܠܡܫܡܫܢܐ ܐܣܘܪܘ ܐܝܕܘܗܝ ܘܪܓܠܘܗܝ ܘܐܦܩܘܗܝ ܠܚܫܘܟܐ ܒܪܝܐ ܬܡܢ ܢܗܘܐ ܒܟܝܐ ܘܚܘܪܩ ܫܢܐ
hydyn 'mr mlk' lmshmshn' 'swrw 'ydwhy wrglwhy w'pqwhy lkhshwk' bry' thmn nhw' bky' wkhwrq shn'
Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and throw him into the outer darkness. That is where the weeping and grinding of teeth will be.’

ܣܓܝܐܝܢ ܐܢܘܢ ܓܝܪ ܩܪܝܐ ܘܙܥܘܪܝܢ ܓܒܝܐ
sgy'yn 'nwn gyr qry' wzewryn gby'
For many are called, but few chosen.”

ܗܝܕܝܢ ܐܙܠܘ ܦܪܝܫܐ ܢܣܒܘ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܝܟܢܐ ܢܨܘܕܘܢܝܗܝ ܒܡܠܬܐ

Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how they might entrap him in his talk.

ܘܫܕܪܘ ܠܘܬܗ ܬܠܡܝܕܝܗܘܢ ܥܡ ܕܒܝܬ ܗܪܘܕܣ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܡܠܦܢܐ ܝܕܥܝܢܢ ܕܫܪܝܪ ܐܢܬ ܘܐܘܪܚܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܒܩܘܫܬܐ ܡܠܦ ܐܢܬ ܘܠܐ ܫܩܝܠ ܐܢܬ ܨܦܬܐ ܕܐܢܫ ܠܐ ܓܝܪ ܢܣܒ ܐܢܬ ܒܐܦܐ ܕܐܢܫܐ

They sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are honest, and teach the way of God in truth, no matter whom you teach, for you aren’t partial to anyone.

ܐܡܪ ܠܢ ܗܟܝܠ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܡܬܚܙܐ ܠܟ ܫܠܝܛ ܠܡܬܠ ܟܣܦ ܪܫܐ ܠܩܣܪ ܐܘ ܠܐ
'mr ln hkyl 'ykn' mthkhz' lk shlyT lmthl ksp rsh' lqsr 'w l'
Tell us therefore, what do you think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”

ܝܫܘܥ ܕܝܢ ܝܕܥ ܒܝܫܘܬܗܘܢ ܘܐܡܪ ܡܢܐ ܡܢܣܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܝ ܢܣܒܝ ܒܐܦܐ
yshwe dyn yde byshwthhwn w'mr mn' mnsyn 'nthwn ly nsby b'p'
But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said,
“Why do you test me, you hypocrites?

ܚܘܐܘܢܝ ܕܝܢܪܐ ܕܟܣܦ ܪܫܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܩܪܒܘ ܠܗ ܕܝܢܪܐ
khw'wny dynr' dksp rsh' hnwn dyn qrbw lh dynr'
Show me the tax money.”
They brought to him a denarius.

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܕܡܢܘ ܨܠܡܐ ܗܢܐ ܘܟܬܒܐ
w'mr lhwn yshwe dmnw tslm' hn' wkthb'
He asked them,
“Whose is this image and inscription?”

ܐܡܪܝܢ ܕܩܣܪ ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܗܒܘ ܗܟܝܠ ܕܩܣܪ ܠܩܣܪ ܘܕܐܠܗܐ ܠܐܠܗܐ
'mryn dqsr 'mr lhwn hbw hkyl dqsr lqsr wd'lh' l'lh'
They said to him, “Caesar’s.”
Then he said to them,
“Give therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”

ܘܟܕ ܫܡܥܘ ܐܬܕܡܪܘ ܘܫܒܩܘܗܝ ܘܐܙܠܘ

When they heard it, they marveled, and left him, and went away.

ܒܗܘ ܝܘܡܐ ܩܪܒܘ ܙܕܘܩܝܐ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܠܝܬ ܚܝܬ ܡܝܬܐ ܘܫܐܠܘܗܝ
bhw ywm' qrbw zdwqy' w'mryn lh lyth khyth myth' wsh'lwhy
On that day Sadducees (those who say that there is no resurrection) came to him. They asked him,

ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܡܠܦܢܐ ܡܘܫܐ ܐܡܪ ܠܢ ܕܐܢ ܐܢܫ ܢܡܘܬ ܟܕ ܠܝܬ ܠܗ ܒܢܝܐ ܢܣܒ ܐܚܘܗܝ ܐܢܬܬܗ ܘܢܩܝܡ ܙܪܥܐ ܠܐܚܘܗܝ
w'mryn lh mlpn' mwsh' 'mr ln d'n 'nsh nmwth kd lyth lh bny' nsb 'khwhy 'nththh wnqym zre' l'khwhy
saying, “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up offspring for his brother.’

ܐܝܬ ܗܘܘ ܕܝܢ ܠܘܬܢ ܐܚܐ ܫܒܥܐ ܩܕܡܝܐ ܫܩܠ ܐܢܬܬܐ ܘܡܝܬ ܘܕܠܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܒܢܝܐ ܫܒܩܗ ܐܢܬܬܗ ܠܐܚܘܗܝ
'yth hww dyn lwthn 'kh' shbe' qdmy' shql 'nthth' wmyth wdlyth hw' lh bny' shbqh 'nththh l'khwhy
Now there were with us seven brothers. The first married and died, and having no offspring left his wife to his brother.

ܗܟܘܬ ܐܦ ܗܘ ܕܬܪܝܢ ܘܐܦ ܗܘ ܕܬܠܬܐ ܘܥܕܡܐ ܠܫܒܥܬܝܗܘܢ

In the same way, the second also, and the third, to the seventh.

ܒܚܪܬܐ ܕܝܢ ܕܟܠܗܘܢ ܡܝܬܬ ܐܦ ܐܢܬܬܐ
bkhrth' dyn dklhwn mythth 'p 'nthth'
After them all, the woman died.

ܒܩܝܡܬܐ ܗܟܝܠ ܠܐܝܢܐ ܡܢ ܗܠܝܢ ܫܒܥܐ ܬܗܘܐ ܐܢܬܬܐ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܓܝܪ ܢܣܒܘܗ
bqymth' hkyl l'yn' mn hlyn shbe' thhw' 'nthth' klhwn gyr nsbwh
In the resurrection therefore, whose wife will she be of the seven? For they all had her.”

ܥܢܐ ܝܫܘܥ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܛܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܠܐ ܝܕܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܟܬܒܐ ܘܠܐ ܚܝܠܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ
en' yshwe w'mr lhwn Teyn 'nthwn dl' ydeyn 'nthwn kthb' wl' khylh d'lh'
But Jesus answered them,
“You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God.

ܒܩܝܡܬܐ ܓܝܪ ܕܡܝܬܐ ܠܐ ܢܣܒܝܢ ܢܫܐ ܐܦܠܐ ܢܫܐ ܗܘܝܢ ܠܓܒܪܐ ܐܠܐ ܐܝܟ ܡܠܐܟܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܒܫܡܝܐ ܐܝܬܝܗܘܢ
bqymth' gyr dmyth' l' nsbyn nsh' 'pl' nsh' hwyn lgbr' 'l' 'yk ml'k' d'lh' bshmy' 'ythyhwn
For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are like God’s angels in heaven.

ܥܠ ܩܝܡܬܐ ܕܝܢ ܕܡܝܬܐ ܠܐ ܩܪܝܬܘܢ ܡܕܡ ܕܐܬܐܡܪ ܠܟܘܢ ܡܢ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܡܪ
el qymth' dyn dmyth' l' qrythwn mdm d'th'mr lkwn mn 'lh' d'mr
But concerning the resurrection of the dead, haven’t you read that which was spoken to you by God, saying,

ܕܐܢܐ ܐܢܐ ܐܠܗܗ ܕܐܒܪܗܡ ܐܠܗܗ ܕܐܝܣܚܩ ܐܠܗܗ ܕܝܥܩܘܒ ܘܐܠܗܐ ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܕܡܝܬܐ ܐܠܐ ܕܚܝܐ
d'n' 'n' 'lhh d'brhm 'lhh d'yskhq 'lhh dyeqwb w'lh' l' hw' dmyth' 'l' dkhy'
‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?’
God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.”

ܘܟܕ ܫܡܥܘ ܟܢܫܐ ܡܬܬܡܗܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܒܝܘܠܦܢܗ

When the multitudes heard it, they were astonished at his teaching.

ܦܪܝܫܐ ܕܝܢ ܟܕ ܫܡܥܘ ܕܫܬܩ ܠܙܕܘܩܝܐ ܐܬܟܢܫܘ ܐܟܚܕܐ
prysh' dyn kd shmew dshthq lzdwqy' 'thknshw 'kkhd'
But the Pharisees, when they heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, gathered themselves together.

ܘܫܐܠܗ ܚܕ ܡܢܗܘܢ ܕܝܕܥ ܢܡܘܣܐ ܟܕ ܡܢܣܐ ܠܗ
wsh'lh khd mnhwn dyde nmws' kd mns' lh
One of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, testing him.

ܡܠܦܢܐ ܐܝܢܐ ܦܘܩܕܢܐ ܪܒ ܒܢܡܘܣܐ
mlpn' 'yn' pwqdn' rb bnmws'
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?”

ܝܫܘܥ ܕܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܕܬܪܚܡ ܠܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܟ ܡܢ ܟܠܗ ܠܒܟ ܘܡܢ ܟܠܗ ܢܦܫܟ ܘܡܢ ܟܠܗ ܚܝܠܟ ܘܡܢ ܟܠܗ ܪܥܝܢܟ

Jesus said to him,
“‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’

ܗܢܘ ܦܘܩܕܢܐ ܪܒܐ ܘܩܕܡܝܐ
hnw pwqdn' rb' wqdmy'
This is the first and great commandment.
39
ܘܕܬܪܝܢ ܕܕܡܐ ܠܗ ܕܬܪܚܡ ܠܩܪܝܒܟ ܐܝܟ ܢܦܫܟ
wdthryn ddm' lh dthrkhm lqrybk 'yk npshk
A second likewise is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

ܒܗܠܝܢ ܬܪܝܢ ܦܘܩܕܢܝܢ ܬܠܝܐ ܐܘܪܝܬܐ ܘܢܒܝܐ
bhlyn thryn pwqdnyn thly' 'wryth' wnby'
The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.”

ܟܕ ܟܢܝܫܝܢ ܕܝܢ ܦܪܝܫܐ ܫܐܠ ܐܢܘܢ ܝܫܘܥ
kd knyshyn dyn prysh' sh'l 'nwn yshwe
Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question,

ܘܐܡܪ ܡܢܐ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܥܠ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܒܪ ܡܢܘ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܒܪ ܕܘܝܕ
w'mr mn' 'mryn 'nthwn el mshykh' br mnw 'mryn lh br dwyd
saying,
“What do you think of the Christ? Whose son is he?”
They said to him, “Of David.”

ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܘܐܝܟܢܐ ܕܘܝܕ ܒܪܘܚ ܩܪܐ ܠܗ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܡܪ ܓܝܪ
'mr lhwn w'ykn' dwyd brwkh qr' lh mry' 'mr gyr
He said to them,
“How then does David in the Spirit call him Lord, saying,

ܕܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܠܡܪܝ ܬܒ ܠܟ ܡܢ ܝܡܝܢܝ ܥܕܡܐ ܕܐܣܝܡ ܒܥܠܕܒܒܝܟ ܬܚܝܬ ܪܓܠܝܟ

‘The Lord said to my Lord,
sit on my right hand,
until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet?’

ܐܢ ܗܟܝܠ ܕܘܝܕ ܩܪܐ ܠܗ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܒܪܗ ܗܘ

“If then David calls him Lord, how is he his son?”

ܘܠܐ ܐܢܫ ܐܫܟܚ ܕܢܬܠ ܠܗ ܦܬܓܡܐ ܘܠܐ ܐܢܫ ܐܡܪܚ ܬܘܒ ܡܢ ܗܘ ܝܘܡܐ ܠܡܫܐܠܘܬܗ
wl' 'nsh 'shkkh dnthl lh pthgm' wl' 'nsh 'mrkh thwb mn hw ywm' lmsh'lwthh
No one was able to answer him a word, neither did any man dare ask him any more questions from that day forward.
