ܟܕ ܕܝܢ ܐܬܝܠܕ ܝܫܘܥ ܒܒܝܬ-ܠܚܡ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ ܒܝܘܡܝ ܗܪܘܕܣ ܡܠܟܐ ܐܬܘ ܡܓܘܫܐ ܡܢ ܡܕܢܚܐ ܠܐܘܪܫܠܡ
l'wrshlm mdnkh' mn mgwsh' 'thw mlk' hrwds bywmy dyhwd' bbyth-lkhm yshwe 'thyld dyn kd
Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying,

ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܐܝܟܘ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܝܐ ܕܐܬܝܠܕ ܚܙܝܢ ܓܝܪ ܟܘܟܒܗ ܒܡܕܢܚܐ ܘܐܬܝܢ ܠܡܣܓܕ ܠܗ

“Where is he who is born King of the Jews? For we saw his star in the east, and have come to worship him.”

ܫܡܥ ܕܝܢ ܗܪܘܕܣ ܡܠܟܐ ܘܐܬܬܙܝܥ ܘܟܠܗ ܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܥܡܗ

When King Herod heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

ܘܟܢܫ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܪܒܝ ܟܗܢܐ ܘܣܦܪܐ ܕܥܡܐ ܘܡܫܐܠ ܗܘܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܕܐܝܟܐ ܡܬܝܠܕ ܡܫܝܚܐ
mshykh' mthyld d'yk' lhwn hw' wmsh'l dem' wspr' khn' rby klhwn wknsh
Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he asked them where the Christ would be born.

ܗܢܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܐܡܪܘ ܒܒܝܬ-ܠܚܡ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ ܗܟܢܐ ܓܝܪ ܟܬܝܒ ܒܢܒܝܐ
bnby' kthyb gyr hkn' dyhwd' bbyth-lkhm 'mrw dyn hnwn
They said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for this is written through the prophet,

ܐܦ ܐܢܬܝ ܒܝܬ-ܠܚܡ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ ܠܐ ܗܘܝܬܝ ܒܨܝܪܐ ܒܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ ܡܢܟܝ ܓܝܪ ܢܦܘܩ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܗܘ ܢܪܥܝܘܗܝ ܠܥܡܝ ܐܝܣܪܐܝܠ
'ysr'yl lemy nreywhy dhw mlk' npwq gyr mnky dyhwd' bmlk' btsyr' hwythy l' dyhwd' byth-lkhm 'nthy 'p
‘You Bethlehem, land of Judah,
are in no way least among the princes of Judah:
for out of you shall come a governor,
who shall shepherd my people, Israel.’”

ܗܝܕܝܢ ܗܪܘܕܣ ܡܛܫܝܐܝܬ ܩܪܐ ܠܡܓܘܫܐ ܘܝܠܦ ܡܢܗܘܢ ܒܐܝܢܐ ܙܒܢܐ ܐܬܚܙܝ ܠܗܘܢ ܟܘܟܒܐ
kwkb' lhwn 'thkhzy zbn' b'yn' mnhwn wylp lmgwsh' qr' mTshy'yth hrwds hydyn
Then Herod secretly called the wise men, and learned from them exactly what time the star appeared.

ܘܫܕܪ ܐܢܘܢ ܠܒܝܬ-ܠܚܡ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܙܠܘ ܥܩܒܘ ܥܠ ܛܠܝܐ ܚܦܝܛܐܝܬ ܘܡܐ ܕܐܫܟܚܬܘܢܝܗܝ ܬܘ ܚܘܐܘܢܝ ܕܐܦ ܐܢܐ ܐܙܠ ܐܣܓܘܕ ܠܗ

He sent them to Bethlehem, and said, “Go and search diligently for the young child. When you have found him, bring me word, so that I also may come and worship him.”

ܗܢܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܟܕ ܫܡܥܘ ܡܢ ܡܠܟܐ ܐܙܠܘ ܘܗܐ ܟܘܟܒܐ ܗܘ ܕܚܙܘ ܒܡܕܢܚܐ ܐܙܠ ܗܘܐ ܩܕܡܝܗܘܢ ܥܕܡܐ ܕܐܬܐ ܩܡ ܠܥܠ ܡܢ ܐܝܟܐ ܕܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܛܠܝܐ
Tly' d'ythwhy 'yk' mn lel qm d'th' edm' qdmyhwn hw' 'zl bmdnkh' dkhzw hw kwkb' wh' 'zlw mlk' mn shmew kd dyn hnwn
They, having heard the king, went their way; and behold, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, until it came and stood over where the young child was.

ܟܕ ܕܝܢ ܚܙܐܘܗܝ ܠܟܘܟܒܐ ܚܕܝܘ ܚܕܘܬܐ ܪܒܬܐ ܕܛܒ

When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.

ܘܥܠܘ ܠܒܝܬܐ ܘܚܙܐܘܗܝ ܠܛܠܝܐ ܥܡ ܡܪܝܡ ܐܡܗ ܘܢܦܠܘ ܣܓܕܘ ܠܗ ܘܦܬܚܘ ܣܝܡܬܗܘܢ ܘܩܪܒܘ ܠܗ ܩܘܪܒܢܐ ܕܗܒܐ ܘܡܘܪܐ ܘܠܒܘܢܬܐ
wlbwnth' wmwr' dhb' qwrbn' lh wqrbw symthhwn wpthkhw lh sgdw wnplw 'mh mrym em lTly' wkhz'why lbyth' welw
They came into the house and saw the young child with Mary, his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Opening their treasures, they offered to him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

ܘܐܬܚܙܝ ܠܗܘܢ ܒܚܠܡܐ ܕܠܐ ܢܗܦܟܘܢ ܠܘܬ ܗܪܘܕܣ ܘܒܐܘܪܚܐ ܐܚܪܬܐ ܐܙܠܘ ܠܐܬܪܗܘܢ
l'thrhwn 'zlw 'khrth' wb'wrkh' hrwds lwth nhpkwn dl' bkhlm' lhwn w'thkhzy
Being warned in a dream that they shouldn’t return to Herod, they went back to their own country another way.

ܟܕ ܕܝܢ ܐܙܠܘ ܐܬܚܙܝ ܡܠܐܟܐ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܒܚܠܡܐ ܠܝܘܣܦ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܩܘܡ ܕܒܪ ܠܛܠܝܐ ܘܠܐܡܗ ܘܥܪܘܩ ܠܡܨܪܝܢ ܘܬܡܢ ܗܘܝ ܥܕܡܐ ܕܐܡܪ ܐܢܐ ܠܟ ܥܬܝܕ ܗܘ ܓܝܪ ܗܪܘܕܣ ܠܡܒܥܝܗ ܠܛܠܝܐ ܐܝܟ ܕܢܘܒܕܝܘܗܝ

Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and stay there until I tell you, for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.”

ܝܘܣܦ ܕܝܢ ܩܡ ܫܩܠܗ ܠܛܠܝܐ ܘܠܐܡܗ ܒܠܠܝܐ ܘܥܪܩ ܠܡܨܪܝܢ

He arose and took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt,

ܘܗܘܐ ܬܡܢ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܡܘܬܗ ܕܗܪܘܕܣ ܕܢܬܡܠܐ ܡܕܡ ܕܐܬܐܡܪ ܡܢ ܡܪܝܐ ܒܢܒܝܐ ܕܐܡܪ ܕܡܢ ܡܨܪܝܢ ܩܪܝܬ ܠܒܪܝ
lbry qryth mtsryn dmn d'mr bnby' mry' mn d'th'mr mdm dnthml' dhrwds lmwthh edm' thmn whw'
and was there until the death of Herod; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, “Out of Egypt I called my son.”

ܗܝܕܝܢ ܗܪܘܕܣ ܟܕ ܚܙܐ ܕܐܬܒܙܚ ܡܢ ܡܓܘܫܐ ܐܬܚܡܬ ܛܒ ܘܫܕܪ ܩܛܠ ܛܠܝܐ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܕܒܝܬ-ܠܚܡ ܘܕܟܠܗܘܢ ܬܚܘܡܝܗ ܡܢ ܒܪ ܬܪܬܝܢ ܫܢܝܢ ܘܠܬܚܬ ܐܝܟ ܙܒܢܐ ܕܥܩܒ ܡܢ ܡܓܘܫܐ
mgwsh' mn deqb zbn' 'yk wlthkhth shnyn thrthyn br mn thkhwmyh wdklhwn dbyth-lkhm klhwn Tly' qTl wshdr Tb 'thkhmth mgwsh' mn d'thbzkh khz' kd hrwds hydyn
Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked by the wise men, was exceedingly angry, and sent out, and killed all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all the surrounding countryside, from two years old and under, according to the exact time which he had learned from the wise men.

ܗܝܕܝܢ ܐܬܡܠܝ ܡܕܡ ܕܐܬܐܡܪ ܒܝܕ ܐܪܡܝܐ ܢܒܝܐ ܕܐܡܪ

Then that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled, saying,

ܩܠܐ ܐܫܬܡܥ ܒܪܡܬܐ ܒܟܝܐ ܘܐܠܝܐ ܣܓܝܐܐ ܪܚܝܠ ܒܟܝܐ ܥܠ ܒܢܝܗ ܘܠܐ ܨܒܝܐ ܠܡܬܒܝܐܘ ܡܛܠ ܕܠܐ ܐܝܬܝܗܘܢ
'ythyhwn dl' mTl lmthby'w tsby' wl' bnyh el bky' rkhyl sgy'' w'ly' bky' brmth' 'shthme ql'
“A voice was heard in Ramah,
lamentation, weeping and great mourning,
Rachel weeping for her children;
she wouldn’t be comforted,
because they are no more.”

ܟܕ ܡܝܬ ܕܝܢ ܗܪܘܕܣ ܡܠܟܐ ܐܬܚܙܝ ܡܠܐܟܐ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܒܚܠܡܐ ܠܝܘܣܦ ܒܡܨܪܝܢ

But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying,

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܩܘܡ ܕܒܪ ܠܛܠܝܐ ܘܠܐܡܗ ܘܙܠ ܠܐܪܥܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܐܝܠ ܡܝܬܘ ܠܗܘܢ ܓܝܪ ܗܢܘܢ ܕܒܥܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܢܦܫܗ ܕܛܠܝܐ

“Arise and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel, for those who sought the young child’s life are dead.”

ܘܝܘܣܦ ܩܡ ܕܒܪ ܠܛܠܝܐ ܘܠܐܡܗ ܘܐܬܐ ܠܐܪܥܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܐܝܠ

He arose and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.

ܟܕ ܕܝܢ ܫܡܥ ܕܐܪܟܠܐܘܣ ܗܘܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܒܝܗܘܕ ܚܠܦ ܗܪܘܕܣ ܐܒܘܗܝ ܕܚܠ ܕܢܐܙܠ ܠܬܡܢ ܘܐܬܚܙܝ ܠܗ ܒܚܠܡܐ ܕܢܐܙܠ ܠܐܬܪܐ ܕܓܠܝܠܐ

But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in the place of his father, Herod, he was afraid to go there. Being warned in a dream, he withdrew into the region of Galilee,
