ܒܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܙܒܢܐ ܫܡܥ ܗܪܘܕܣ ܛܛܪܪܟܐ ܫܡܥܗ ܕܝܫܘܥ

At that time, Herod the tetrarch heard the report concerning Jesus,

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܥܒܕܘܗܝ ܗܢܘ ܝܘܚܢܢ ܡܥܡܕܢܐ ܗܘ ܩܡ ܡܢ ܒܝܬ ܡܝܬܐ ܡܛܠ ܗܢܐ ܚܝܠܐ ܡܣܬܥܪܝܢ ܒܗ
bh mstheryn khyl' hn' mTl myth' byth mn qm hw memdn' ywkhnn hnw lebdwhy w'mr
and said to his servants, “This is John the Baptizer. He is risen from the dead. That is why these powers work in him.”

ܗܘ ܓܝܪ ܗܪܘܕܣ ܐܚܕ ܗܘܐ ܠܝܘܚܢܢ ܘܐܣܪܗ ܘܐܪܡܝܗ ܒܝܬ ܐܣܝܪܐ ܡܛܠ ܗܪܘܕܝܐ ܐܢܬܬ ܦܝܠܝܦܘܣ ܐܚܘܗܝ
'khwhy pylypws 'nthth hrwdy' mTl 'syr' byth w'rmyh w'srh lywkhnn hw' 'khd hrwds gyr hw
For Herod had laid hold of John, and bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife.

ܐܡܪ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܓܝܪ ܝܘܚܢܢ ܕܠܐ ܫܠܝܛ ܕܬܗܘܐ ܠܟ ܐܢܬܬܐ

For John said to him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.”

ܘܨܒܐ ܗܘܐ ܠܡܩܛܠܗ ܘܕܚܠ ܗܘܐ ܡܢ ܥܡܐ ܕܐܝܟ ܕܠܢܒܝܐ ܐܚܝܕܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܗ
lh hww 'khydyn dlnby' d'yk em' mn hw' wdkhl lmqTlh hw' wtsb'
When he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

ܟܕ ܗܘܐ ܕܝܢ ܒܝܬ ܝܠܕܗ ܕܗܪܘܕܣ ܪܩܕܬ ܒܪܬܗ ܕܗܪܘܕܝܐ ܩܕܡ ܣܡܝܟܐ ܘܫܦܪܬ ܠܗ ܠܗܪܘܕܣ

But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced among them and pleased Herod.

ܡܛܠ ܗܢܐ ܒܡܘܡܬܐ ܝܡܐ ܠܗ ܕܢܬܠ ܠܗ ܟܠܡܕܡ ܕܬܫܐܠ

Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatever she should ask.

ܗܝ ܕܝܢ ܡܛܠ ܕܡܠܦܐ ܗܘܬ ܠܐܡܗ ܐܡܪܬ ܗܒ ܠܝ ܗܪܟܐ ܒܦܝܢܟܐ ܪܫܗ ܕܝܘܚܢܢ ܡܥܡܕܢܐ

She, being prompted by her mother, said, “Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptizer.”

ܘܟܪܝܬ ܠܗ ܠܡܠܟܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܝܢ ܡܘܡܬܐ ܘܣܡܝܟܐ ܦܩܕ ܕܢܬܝܗܒ ܠܗ
lh dnthyhb pqd wsmyk' mwmth' dyn mTl lmlk' lh wkryth
The king was grieved, but for the sake of his oaths, and of those who sat at the table with him, he commanded it to be given,

ܘܫܕܪ ܦܣܩܗ ܪܫܗ ܕܝܘܚܢܢ ܒܝܬ ܐܣܝܪܐ
'syr' byth dywkhnn rshh psqh wshdr
and he sent and beheaded John in the prison.

ܘܐܝܬܝ ܪܫܗ ܒܦܝܢܟܐ ܘܐܬܝܗܒ ܠܛܠܝܬܐ ܘܐܝܬܝܬܗ ܠܐܡܗ

His head was brought on a platter, and given to the young lady: and she brought it to her mother.

ܘܩܪܒܘ ܬܠܡܝܕܘܗܝ ܫܩܠܘ ܫܠܕܗ ܩܒܪܘ ܘܐܬܘ ܚܘܝܘ ܠܝܫܘܥ
lyshwe khwyw w'thw qbrw shldh shqlw thlmydwhy wqrbw
His disciples came, and took the body, and buried it; and they went and told Jesus.

ܝܫܘܥ ܕܝܢ ܟܕ ܫܡܥ ܫܢܝ ܡܢ ܬܡܢ ܒܐܠܦܐ ܠܐܬܪܐ ܚܘܪܒܐ ܒܠܚܘܕܘܗܝ ܘܟܕ ܫܡܥܘ ܟܢܫܐ ܐܙܠܘ ܒܬܪܗ ܒܝܒܫܐ ܡܢ ܡܕܝܢܬܐ
mdynth' mn bybsh' bthrh 'zlw knsh' shmew wkd blkhwdwhy khwrb' l'thr' b'lp' thmn mn shny shme kd dyn yshwe
Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat, to a deserted place apart. When the multitudes heard it, they followed him on foot from the cities.

ܘܢܦܩ ܝܫܘܥ ܚܙܐ ܟܢܫܐ ܣܓܝܐܐ ܘܐܬܪܚܡ ܥܠܝܗܘܢ ܘܐܣܝ ܟܪܝܗܝܗܘܢ
kryhyhwn w'sy elyhwn w'thrkhm sgy'' knsh' khz' yshwe wnpq
Jesus went out, and he saw a great multitude. He had compassion on them, and healed their sick.

ܟܕ ܗܘܐ ܕܝܢ ܪܡܫܐ ܩܪܒܘ ܠܘܬܗ ܬܠܡܝܕܘܗܝ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܗ ܐܬܪܐ ܚܘܪܒܐ ܗܘ ܘܥܕܢܐ ܥܒܪ ܠܗ ܫܪܝ ܟܢܫܐ ܕܐܢܫܐ ܕܢܐܙܠܘܢ ܠܩܘܪܝܐ ܘܢܙܒܢܘܢ ܠܗܘܢ ܣܝܒܪܬܐ

When evening had come, his disciples came to him, saying, “This place is deserted, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves food.”

ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܠܐ ܡܬܒܥܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܠܡܐܙܠ ܗܒܘ ܠܗܘܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܡܐܟܠ
lm'kl 'nthwn lhwn hbw lm'zl lhwn mthbe' l' lhwn 'mr dyn hw
But Jesus said to them, “They don’t need to go away. You give them something to eat.”

ܗܢܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܐܡܪܘ ܠܗ ܠܝܬ ܠܢ ܬܢܢ ܐܠܐ ܚܡܫ ܓܪܝܨܢ ܘܬܪܝܢ ܢܘܢܝܢ
nwnyn wthryn grytsn khmsh 'l' thnn ln lyth lh 'mrw dyn hnwn
They told him, “We only have here five loaves and two fish.”

ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܐܝܬܘ ܐܢܘܢ ܠܝ ܠܗܪܟܐ
lhrk' ly 'nwn 'ythw yshwe lhwn 'mr
He said, “Bring them here to me.”

ܘܦܩܕ ܠܟܢܫܐ ܠܡܣܬܡܟܘ ܥܠ ܐܪܥܐ ܘܫܩܠ ܗܢܘܢ ܚܡܫܐ ܠܚܡܝܢ ܘܬܪܝܢ ܢܘܢܝܢ ܘܚܪ ܒܫܡܝܐ ܘܒܪܟ ܘܩܨܐ ܘܝܗܒ ܠܬܠܡܝܕܘܗܝ ܘܗܢܘܢ ܬܠܡܝܕܐ ܣܡܘ ܠܟܢܫܐ

He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass; and he took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, broke and gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples gave to the multitudes.

ܘܐܟܠܘ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܘܣܒܥܘ ܘܫܩܠܘ ܬܘܬܪܐ ܕܩܨܝܐ ܬܪܥܣܪ ܩܘܦܝܢܝܢ ܟܕ ܡܠܝܢ
mlyn kd qwpynyn thresr dqtsy' thwthr' wshqlw wsbew klhwn w'klw
They all ate, and were filled. They took up twelve baskets full of that which remained left over from the broken pieces.

ܗܢܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܐܢܫܐ ܕܐܟܠܘ ܗܘܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܐܠܦܐ ܚܡܫܐ ܣܛܪ ܡܢ ܢܫܐ ܘܛܠܝܐ
wTly' nsh' mn sTr khmsh' 'lp' hww hwyn d'klw 'nsh' dyn hnwn
Those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

ܘܡܚܕܐ ܐܠܨ ܠܬܠܡܝܕܘܗܝ ܕܢܣܩܘܢ ܠܣܦܝܢܬܐ ܘܢܐܙܠܘܢ ܩܕܡܘܗܝ ܠܥܒܪܐ ܥܕ ܫܪܐ ܗܘ ܠܟܢܫܐ
lknsh' hw shr' ed lebr' qdmwhy wn'zlwn lspynth' dnsqwn lthlmydwhy 'lts wmkhd'
Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat, and to go ahead of him to the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.

ܘܟܕ ܫܪܐ ܠܟܢܫܐ ܣܠܩ ܠܛܘܪܐ ܒܠܚܘܕܘܗܝ ܠܡܨܠܝܘ ܘܟܕ ܚܫܟܬ ܒܠܚܘܕܘܗܝ ܗܘܐ ܬܡܢ
thmn hw' blkhwdwhy khshkth wkd lmtslyw blkhwdwhy lTwr' slq lknsh' shr' wkd
After he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into the mountain by himself to pray. When evening had come, he was there alone.

ܘܐܠܦܐ ܪܚܝܩܐ ܗܘܬ ܡܢ ܐܪܥܐ ܐܣܛܕܘܬܐ ܣܓܝܐܐ ܟܕ ܡܫܬܓܫܐ ܣܓܝ ܡܢ ܓܠܠܐ ܪܘܚܐ ܓܝܪ ܠܩܘܒܠܗ ܗܘܬ
hwth lqwblh gyr rwkh' gll' mn sgy mshthgsh' kd sgy'' 'sTdwth' 're' mn hwth rkhyq' w'lp'
But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, distressed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.

ܒܡܛܪܬܐ ܕܝܢ ܪܒܝܥܝܬܐ ܕܠܠܝܐ ܐܬܐ ܠܘܬܗܘܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܟܕ ܡܗܠܟ ܥܠ ܡܝܐ
my' el mhlk kd yshwe lwthhwn 'th' dlly' rbyeyth' dyn bmTrth'
In the fourth watch of the night, Jesus came to them, walking on the sea.

ܘܚܙܐܘܗܝ ܬܠܡܝܕܘܗܝ ܕܡܗܠܟ ܥܠ ܡܝܐ ܘܐܬܬܙܝܥܘ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܕܚܙܘܐ ܗܘ ܕܓܠܐ ܘܡܢ ܕܚܠܬܗܘܢ ܩܥܘ

When the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It’s a ghost!” and they cried out for fear.

ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܒܪܫܥܬܗ ܡܠܠ ܥܡܗܘܢ ܘܐܡܪ ܐܬܠܒܒܘ ܐܢܐ ܐܢܐ ܠܐ ܬܕܚܠܘܢ
thdkhlwn l' 'n' 'n' 'thlbbw w'mr emhwn mll brshethh yshwe dyn hw
But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Cheer up! It is I! Don’t be afraid.”

ܘܥܢܐ ܟܐܦܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܡܪܝ ܐܢ ܐܢܬ ܗܘ ܦܩܘܕ ܠܝ ܐܬܐ ܠܘܬܟ ܥܠ ܡܝܐ
my' el lwthk 'th' ly pqwd hw 'nth 'n mry lh w'mr k'p' wen'
Peter answered him and said, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the waters.”

ܝܫܘܥ ܕܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܬܐ ܘܢܚܬ ܟܐܦܐ ܡܢ ܐܠܦܐ ܘܗܠܟ ܥܠ ܡܝܐ ܕܢܐܬܐ ܠܘܬ ܝܫܘܥ
yshwe lwth dn'th' my' el whlk 'lp' mn k'p' wnkhth th' lh 'mr dyn yshwe
He said, “Come!” Peter stepped down from the boat, and walked on the waters to come to Jesus.

ܘܟܕ ܚܙܐ ܪܘܚܐ ܕܩܫܝܐ ܕܚܠ ܘܫܪܝ ܠܡܛܒܥ ܘܐܪܝܡ ܩܠܗ ܘܐܡܪ ܡܪܝ ܦܪܘܩܝܢܝ

But when he saw that the wind was strong, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”

ܘܒܪ ܫܥܬܗ ܦܫܛ ܐܝܕܗ ܡܪܢ ܘܐܚܕܗ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܙܥܘܪ ܗܝܡܢܘܬܐ ܠܡܢܐ ܐܬܦܠܓܬ
'thplgth lmn' hymnwth' zewr lh w'mr w'khdh mrn 'ydh pshT shethh wbr
Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand, took hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”

ܘܟܕ ܣܠܩܘ ܠܐܠܦܐ ܫܠܝܬ ܪܘܚܐ

When they got up into the boat, the wind ceased.
33
ܘܐܬܘ ܗܢܘܢ ܕܒܐܠܦܐ ܣܓܕܘ ܠܗ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܫܪܝܪܐܝܬ ܒܪܗ ܐܢܬ ܕܐܠܗܐ
d'lh' 'nth brh shryr'yth w'mrw lh sgdw db'lp' hnwn w'thw
Those who were in the boat came and worshiped him, saying, “You are truly the Son of God!”

ܘܪܕܘ ܘܐܬܘ ܠܐܪܥܐ ܕܓܢܣܪ
dgnsr l're' w'thw wrdw
When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret.

ܘܐܫܬܘܕܥܘܗܝ ܐܢܫܐ ܕܐܬܪܐ ܗܘ ܘܫܕܪܘ ܠܟܠܗܝܢ ܩܘܪܝܐ ܕܚܕܪܝܗܘܢ ܘܩܪܒܘ ܠܗ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܒܝܫ ܒܝܫ ܥܒܝܕܝܢ
ebydyn bysh dbysh 'ylyn klhwn lh wqrbw dkhdryhwn qwry' lklhyn wshdrw hw d'thr' 'nsh' w'shthwdewhy
When the people of that place recognized him, they sent into all that surrounding region, and brought to him all who were sick;

ܘܒܥܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܡܢܗ ܕܢܩܪܒܘܢ ܐܦܢ ܠܟܢܦܐ ܒܠܚܘܕ ܕܠܒܘܫܗ ܘܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܩܪܒܘ ܐܬܐܣܝܘ
'th'syw dqrbw w'ylyn dlbwshh blkhwd lknp' 'pn dnqrbwn mnh hww wbeyn
and they begged him that they might just touch the fringe of his garment. As many as touched it were made whole.
