ܒܗܢܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܝܘܡܬܐ ܟܕ ܟܢܫܐ ܣܓܝܐܐ ܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܘܠܐ ܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܡܕܡ ܕܢܐܟܠܘܢ ܩܪܐ ܠܬܠܡܝܕܘܗܝ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ

In those days, when there was a very great multitude, and they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to himself, and said to them,

ܡܬܪܚܡ ܐܢܐ ܥܠ ܟܢܫܐ ܗܢܐ ܕܗܐ ܬܠܬܐ ܝܘܡܝܢ ܩܘܝܘ ܠܘܬܝ ܘܠܝܬ ܠܗܘܢ ܡܢܐ ܢܐܟܠܘܢ
mthrkhm 'n' el knsh' hn' dh' thlth' ywmyn qwyw lwthy wlyth lhwn mn' n'klwn
“I have compassion on the multitude, because they have stayed with me now three days, and have nothing to eat.

ܘܐܢ ܗܘ ܕܫܪܐ ܐܢܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܟܕ ܨܝܡܝܢ ܠܒܬܝܗܘܢ ܥܝܦܝܢ ܒܐܘܪܚܐ ܐܢܫܐ ܓܝܪ ܡܢܗܘܢ ܡܢ ܪܘܚܩܐ ܐܬܝܐܝܢ
w'n hw dshr' 'n' lhwn kd tsymyn lbthyhwn eypyn b'wrkh' 'nsh' gyr mnhwn mn rwkhq' 'thy'yn
If I send them away fasting to their home, they will faint on the way, for some of them have come a long way.”

ܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܬܠܡܝܕܘܗܝ ܐܝܡܟܐ ܡܫܟܚ ܐܢܫ ܗܪܟܐ ܒܚܘܪܒܐ ܕܢܣܒܥ ܠܚܡܐ ܠܗܠܝܢ ܟܠܗܘܢ
'mryn lh thlmydwhy 'ymk' mshkkh 'nsh hrk' bkhwrb' dnsbe lkhm' lhlyn klhwn
His disciples answered him, “From where could one satisfy these people with bread here in a deserted place?”

ܘܫܐܠ ܐܢܘܢ ܗܘ ܟܡܐ ܠܚܡܝܢ ܐܝܬ ܠܟܘܢ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܫܒܥܐ

He asked them,
“How many loaves do you have?”
They said, “Seven.”

ܘܦܩܕ ܠܟܢܫܐ ܕܢܣܬܡܟܘܢ ܥܠ ܐܪܥܐ ܘܢܣܒ ܗܢܘܢ ܫܒܥܐ ܠܚܡܝܢ ܘܒܪܟ ܘܩܨܐ ܘܝܗܒ ܠܬܠܡܝܕܘܗܝ ܕܢܣܝܡܘܢ ܘܣܡܘ ܠܟܢܫܐ

He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground, and he took the seven loaves. Having given thanks, he broke them, and gave them to his disciples to serve, and they served the multitude.

ܘܐܝܬ ܗܘܘ ܢܘܢܐ ܩܠܝܠ ܘܐܦ ܥܠܝܗܘܢ ܒܪܟ ܘܐܡܪ ܕܢܣܝܡܘܢ ܐܢܘܢ

They had a few small fish. Having blessed them, he said to serve these also.

ܘܐܟܠܘ ܘܣܒܥܘ ܘܫܩܠܘ ܬܘܬܪܐ ܕܩܨܝܐ ܫܒܥܐ ܐܣܦܪܝܕܝܢ

They ate, and were filled. They took up seven baskets of broken pieces that were left over.

ܐܝܬܝܗܘܢ ܗܘܘ ܕܝܢ ܐܢܫܐ ܕܐܟܠܘ ܐܝܟ ܐܪܒܥܐ ܐܠܦܝܢ
'ythyhwn hww dyn 'nsh' d'klw 'yk 'rbe' 'lpyn
Those who had eaten were about four thousand. Then he sent them away.

ܘܫܪܐ ܐܢܘܢ ܘܣܠܩ ܡܚܕܐ ܠܣܦܝܢܬܐ ܥܡ ܬܠܡܝܕܘܗܝ ܘܐܬܐ ܠܐܬܪܐ ܕܕܠܡܢܘܬܐ
wshr' 'nwn wslq mkhd' lspynth' em thlmydwhy w'th' l'thr' ddlmnwth'
Immediately he entered into the boat with his disciples, and came into the region of Dalmanutha.

ܘܢܦܩܘ ܦܪܝܫܐ ܘܫܪܝܘ ܠܡܒܥܐ ܥܡܗ ܘܫܐܠܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܗ ܐܬܐ ܡܢ ܫܡܝܐ ܟܕ ܡܢܣܝܢ ܠܗ
wnpqw prysh' wshryw lmbe' emh wsh'lyn hww lh 'th' mn shmy' kd mnsyn lh
The Pharisees came out and began to question him, seeking from him a sign from heaven, and testing him.

ܘܐܬܬܢܚ ܒܪܘܚܗ ܘܐܡܪ ܡܢܐ ܒܥܝܐ ܐܬܐ ܫܪܒܬܐ ܗܕܐ ܐܡܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܐܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܕܠܐ ܬܬܝܗܒ ܠܗ ܐܬܐ ܠܫܪܒܬܐ ܗܕܐ
w'ththnkh brwkhh w'mr mn' bey' 'th' shrbth' hd' 'myn 'mr 'n' lkwn dl' ththyhb lh 'th' lshrbth' hd'
He sighed deeply in his spirit, and said,
“Why does this generation
seek a sign? Most certainly I tell you, no sign will be given to this generation.”

ܘܫܒܩ ܐܢܘܢ ܘܣܠܩ ܠܣܦܝܢܬܐ ܘܐܙܠܘ ܠܗܘ ܥܒܪܐ
wshbq 'nwn wslq lspynth' w'zlw lhw ebr'
He left them, and again entering into the boat, departed to the other side.

ܘܛܥܘ ܕܢܣܒܘܢ ܠܚܡܐ ܘܐܠܐ ܚܕܐ ܓܪܝܨܬܐ ܠܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܥܡܗܘܢ ܒܣܦܝܢܬܐ
wTew dnsbwn lkhm' w'l' khd' grytsth' lyth hw' emhwn bspynth'
They forgot to take bread; and they didn’t have more than one loaf in the boat with them.

ܘܦܩܕ ܐܢܘܢ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܚܙܘ ܐܙܕܗܪܘ ܡܢ ܚܡܝܪܐ ܕܦܪܝܫܐ ܘܡܢ ܚܡܝܪܗ ܕܗܪܘܕܣ
wpqd 'nwn w'mr lhwn khzw 'zdhrw mn khmyr' dprysh' wmn khmyrh dhrwds
He warned them, saying,
“Take heed: beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod.”

ܘܡܬܚܫܒܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܚܕ ܥܡ ܚܕ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܕܠܚܡܐ ܠܝܬ ܠܢ

They reasoned with one another, saying, “It’s because we have no bread.”

ܝܫܘܥ ܕܝܢ ܝܕܥ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܡܢܐ ܪܢܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܠܚܡܐ ܠܝܬ ܠܟܘܢ ܠܐ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܗܫܐ ܝܕܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܘܠܐ ܡܣܬܟܠܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܥܕܟܝܠ ܠܒܐ ܩܫܝܐ ܐܝܬ ܠܟܘܢ
yshwe dyn yde w'mr lhwn mn' rnyn 'nthwn dlkhm' lyth lkwn l' edm' lhsh' ydeyn 'nthwn wl' msthklyn 'nthwn edkyl lb' qshy' 'yth lkwn
Jesus, perceiving it, said to them,
“Why do you reason that it’s because you have no bread? Don’t you perceive yet, neither understand? Is your heart still hardened?

ܘܥܝܢܐ ܐܝܬ ܠܟܘܢ ܘܠܐ ܚܙܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܘܐܕܢܐ ܐܝܬ ܠܟܘܢ ܘܠܐ ܫܡܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܘܠܐ ܥܗܕܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ
weyn' 'yth lkwn wl' khzyn 'nthwn w'dn' 'yth lkwn wl' shmeyn 'nthwn wl' ehdyn 'nthwn
Having eyes, don’t you see? Having ears, don’t you hear? Don’t you remember?

ܟܕ ܗܠܝܢ ܚܡܫܐ ܠܚܡܝܢ ܩܨܝܬ ܠܚܡܫܐ ܐܠܦܝܢ ܟܡܐ ܩܘܦܝܢܝܢ ܕܩܨܝܐ ܟܕ ܡܠܝܢ ܫܩܠܬܘܢ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܬܪܥܣܪ
kd hlyn khmsh' lkhmyn qtsyth lkhmsh' 'lpyn km' qwpynyn dqtsy' kd mlyn shqlthwn 'mryn lh thresr
When I broke the five loaves among the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?”
They told him, “Twelve.”

ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܘܟܕ ܫܒܥܐ ܠܐܪܒܥܐ ܐܠܦܝܢ ܟܡܐ ܐܣܦܪܝܕܝܢ ܕܩܨܝܐ ܟܕ ܡܠܝܢ ܫܩܠܬܘܢ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܫܒܥܐ
'mr lhwn wkd shbe' l'rbe' 'lpyn km' 'sprydyn dqtsy' kd mlyn shqlthwn 'mryn shbe'
“When the seven loaves fed the four thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?”
They told him, “Seven.”

ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܐܝܟܘ ܠܐ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܗܫܐ ܡܣܬܟܠܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ
'mr lhwn 'ykw l' edm' lhsh' msthklyn 'nthwn
He asked them,
“Don’t you understand yet?”

ܘܐܬܐ ܠܒܝܬ-ܨܝܕܐ ܘܐܝܬܝܘ ܠܗ ܣܡܝܐ ܘܒܥܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܡܢܗ ܕܢܩܪܘܒ ܠܗ
w'th' lbyth-tsyd' w'ythyw lh smy' wbeyn hww mnh dnqrwb lh
He came to Bethsaida. They brought a blind man to him, and begged him to touch him.

ܘܐܚܕ ܒܐܝܕܗ ܕܣܡܝܐ ܘܐܦܩܗ ܠܒܪ ܡܢ ܩܪܝܬܐ ܘܪܩ ܒܥܝܢܘܗܝ ܘܣܡ ܐܝܕܗ ܘܫܐܠܗ ܕܡܢܐ ܚܙܐ

He took hold of the blind man by the hand, and brought him out of the village. When he had spat on his eyes, and laid his hands on him, he asked him if he saw anything.

ܚܪ ܘܐܡܪ ܚܙܐ ܐܢܐ ܒܢܝ ܐܢܫܐ ܐܝܟ ܐܝܠܢܐ ܕܡܗܠܟܝܢ

He looked up, and said, “I see men; for I see them like trees walking.”

ܬܘܒ ܣܡ ܐܝܕܗ ܥܠ ܥܝܢܘܗܝ ܘܬܩܢ ܘܚܙܐ ܗܘܐ ܟܠ ܡܕܡ ܢܗܝܪܐܝܬ

Then again he laid his hands on his eyes. He looked intently, and was restored, and saw everyone clearly.

ܘܫܕܪܗ ܠܒܝܬܗ ܘܐܡܪ ܐܦ ܠܐ ܠܩܪܝܬܐ ܬܥܘܠ ܘܠܐ ܬܐܡܪ ܠܐܢܫ ܒܩܪܝܬܐ

He sent him away to his house, saying,
“Don’t enter into the village, nor tell anyone in the village.”

ܘܢܦܩ ܝܫܘܥ ܘܬܠܡܝܕܘܗܝ ܠܩܘܪܝܐ ܕܩܣܪܝܐ-ܕܦܝܠܝܦܘܣ ܘܡܫܐܠ ܗܘܐ ܠܬܠܡܝܕܘܗܝ ܒܐܘܪܚܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܡܢܘ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܥܠܝ ܐܢܫܐ ܕܐܝܬܝ
wnpq yshwe wthlmydwhy lqwry' dqsry'-dpylypws wmsh'l hw' lthlmydwhy b'wrkh' w'mr lhwn mnw 'mryn ely 'nsh' d'ythy
Jesus went out, with his disciples, into the villages of Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked his disciples,
“Who do men say that I am?”

They told him, “John the Baptizer, and others say Elijah, but others: one of the prophets.”

ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܡܢܘ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܥܠܝ ܕܐܝܬܝ ܥܢܐ ܫܡܥܘܢ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܐܢܬ ܗܘ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܒܪܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܚܝܐ
'mr lhwn yshwe 'nthwn dyn mnw 'mryn 'nthwn ely d'ythy en' shmewn w'mr lh 'nth hw mshykh' brh d'lh' khy'
He said to them,
“But who do you say that I am?”
Peter answered, “You are the Christ.”

ܘܟܐܐ ܒܗܘܢ ܕܠܐܢܫ ܠܐ ܢܐܡܪܘܢ ܥܠܘܗܝ

He commanded them that they should tell no one about him.

ܘܫܪܝ ܗܘܐ ܠܡܠܦܘ ܐܢܘܢ ܕܥܬܝܕ ܗܘ ܒܪܗ ܕܐܢܫܐ ܕܢܚܫ ܣܓܝ ܘܕܢܣܬܠܐ ܡܢ ܩܫܝܫܐ ܘܡܢ ܪܒܝ ܟܗܢܐ ܘܡܢ ܣܦܪܐ ܘܢܬܩܛܠ ܘܠܬܠܬܐ ܝܘܡܝܢ ܢܩܘܡ

He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

ܘܥܝܢ ܒܓܠܐ ܡܠܬܐ ܡܡܠܠ ܗܘܐ ܘܕܒܪܗ ܟܐܦܐ ܘܫܪܝ ܠܡܟܐܐ ܒܗ

He spoke to them openly. Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.

ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܐܬܦܢܝ ܘܚܪ ܒܬܠܡܝܕܘܗܝ ܘܟܐܐ ܒܫܡܥܘܢ ܘܐܡܪ ܙܠ ܠܟ ܠܒܣܬܪܝ ܣܛܢܐ ܕܠܐ ܪܢܐ ܐܢܬ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܐܠܐ ܕܒܢܝ ܐܢܫܐ

But he, turning around, and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter, and said,
“Get behind me, Satan! For you have in mind not the things of God, but the things of men.”

ܘܩܪܐ ܝܫܘܥ ܠܟܢܫܐ ܥܡ ܬܠܡܝܕܘܗܝ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܡܢ ܕܨܒܐ ܕܢܐܬܐ ܒܬܪܝ ܢܟܦܘܪ ܒܢܦܫܗ ܘܢܫܩܘܠ ܙܩܝܦܗ ܘܢܐܬܐ ܒܬܪܝ

He called the multitude to himself with his disciples, and said to them,
“Whoever wants to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

ܟܠ ܡܢ ܕܨܒܐ ܓܝܪ ܕܢܚܐ ܢܦܫܗ ܢܘܒܕܝܗ ܘܟܠ ܕܢܘܒܕ ܢܦܫܗ ܡܛܠܬܝ ܘܡܛܠ ܣܒܪܬܝ ܢܚܝܗ

For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; and whoever will lose his life for my sake and the sake of the Good News will save it.

ܡܢܐ ܓܝܪ ܢܬܥܕܪ ܒܪܢܫܐ ܐܢ ܥܠܡܐ ܟܠܗ ܢܐܬܪ ܘܢܦܫܗ ܢܚܣܪ

For what does it profit a man, to gain the whole world, and forfeit his life?

For what will a man give in exchange for his life?

ܟܠ ܓܝܪ ܕܢܒܗܬ ܒܝ ܘܒܡܠܝ ܒܫܪܒܬܐ ܗܕܐ ܚܛܝܬܐ ܘܓܝܪܬܐ ܘܐܦ ܒܪܗ ܕܐܢܫܐ ܢܒܗܬ ܒܗ ܡܐ ܕܐܬܐ ܒܫܘܒܚܐ ܕܐܒܘܗܝ ܥܡ ܡܠܐܟܘܗܝ ܩܕܝܫܐ

For whoever will be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man also will be ashamed of him, when he comes in his Father’s glory, with the holy angels.”
