ܐܝܟ ܕܟܬܝܒ ܒܐܫܥܝܐ ܢܒܝܐ ܗܐ ܡܫܕܪ ܐܢܐ ܡܠܐܟܝ ܩܕܡ ܦܪܨܘܦܟ ܕܢܬܩܢ ܐܘܪܚܟ

As it is written in the prophets,
“Behold, I send my messenger before your face,
who will prepare your way before you:

ܩܠܐ ܕܩܪܐ ܒܡܕܒܪܐ ܛܝܒܘ ܐܘܪܚܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܘܐܫܘܘ ܫܒܝܠܘܗܝ

the voice of one crying in the wilderness,
‘Make ready the way of the Lord!
Make his paths straight!’”

ܗܘܐ ܝܘܚܢܢ ܒܡܕܒܪܐ ܡܥܡܕ ܘܡܟܪܙ ܡܥܡܘܕܝܬܐ ܕܬܝܒܘܬܐ ܠܫܘܒܩܢܐ ܕܚܛܗܐ

John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching the baptism of repentance for forgiveness of sins.

ܘܢܦܩܐ ܗܘܬ ܠܘܬܗ ܟܠܗ ܟܘܪ ܕܝܗܘܕ ܘܟܠܗܘܢ ܒܢܝ ܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܘܡܥܡܕ ܗܘܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܒܝܘܪܕܢܢ ܟܕ ܡܘܕܝܢ ܒܚܛܗܝܗܘܢ

All the country of Judea and all those of Jerusalem went out to him. They were baptized by him in the Jordan river, confessing their sins.

John was clothed with camel’s hair and a leather belt around his waist. He ate locusts and wild honey.

ܘܡܟܪܙ ܗܘܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܗܐ ܐܬܐ ܒܬܪܝ ܕܚܝܠܬܢ ܡܢܝ ܗܘ ܕܠܐ ܫܘܐ ܐܢܐ ܕܐܓܗܢ ܐܫܪܐ ܥܪܩܐ ܕܡܣܢܘܗܝ

He preached, saying, “After me comes he who is mightier than I, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and loosen.

ܐܢܐ ܐܥܡܕܬܟܘܢ ܒܡܝܐ ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܢܥܡܕܟܘܢ ܒܪܘܚܐ ܕܩܘܕܫܐ

I baptized you in water, but he will baptize you in the Holy Spirit.”

ܘܗܘܐ ܒܝܘܡܬܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܐܬܐ ܝܫܘܥ ܡܢ ܢܨܪܬ ܕܓܠܝܠܐ ܘܐܬܥܡܕ ܒܝܘܪܕܢܢ ܡܢ ܝܘܚܢܢ

In those days, Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan.

ܘܡܚܕܐ ܕܣܠܩ ܡܢ ܡܝܐ ܚܙܐ ܕܐܣܬܕܩܘ ܫܡܝܐ ܘܪܘܚܐ ܐܝܟ ܝܘܢܐ ܕܢܚܬܬ ܥܠܘܗܝ

Immediately coming up from the water, he saw the heavens parting, and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.

ܘܩܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܡܢ ܫܡܝܐ ܐܢܬ ܗܘ ܒܪܝ ܚܒܝܒܐ ܒܟ ܐܨܛܒܝܬ

A voice came out of the sky, “You are my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

ܘܡܚܕܐ ܐܦܩܬܗ ܪܘܚܐ ܠܡܕܒܪܐ

Immediately the Spirit drove him out into the wilderness.

ܘܗܘܐ ܬܡܢ ܒܡܕܒܪܐ ܝܘܡܬܐ ܐܪܒܥܝܢ ܟܕ ܡܬܢܣܐ ܡܢ ܣܛܢܐ ܘܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܗܘܐ ܥܡ ܚܝܘܬܐ ܘܡܫܡܫܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܗ ܡܠܐܟܐ

He was there in the wilderness forty days tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals; and the angels were serving him.

ܒܬܪ ܕܐܫܬܠܡ ܕܝܢ ܝܘܚܢܢ ܐܬܐ ܠܗ ܝܫܘܥ ܠܓܠܝܠܐ ܘܡܟܪܙ ܗܘܐ ܣܒܪܬܐ ܕܡܠܟܘܬܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ

Now after John was taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the Good News of God’s Kingdom,

ܘܐܡܪ ܫܠܡ ܠܗ ܙܒܢܐ ܘܡܛܬ ܡܠܟܘܬܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܬܘܒܘ ܘܗܝܡܢܘ ܒܣܒܪܬܐ

and saying,
“The time is fulfilled, and God’s Kingdom is at hand! Repent, and believe in the Good News.”

ܘܟܕ ܡܗܠܟ ܚܕܪܝ ܝܡܐ ܕܓܠܝܠܐ ܚܙܐ ܠܫܡܥܘܢ ܘܠܐܢܕܪܐܘܣ ܐܚܘܗܝ ܕܪܡܝܢ ܡܨܝܕܬܐ ܒܝܡܐ ܐܝܬܝܗܘܢ ܗܘܘ ܓܝܪ ܨܝܕܐ

Passing along by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܬܘ ܒܬܪܝ ܘܐܥܒܕܟܘܢ ܨܝܕܐ ܕܒܢܝ ܐܢܫܐ

Jesus said to them,
“Come after me, and I will make you into fishers for men.”

ܘܡܚܕܐ ܫܒܩܘ ܡܨܝܕܬܗܘܢ ܘܐܙܠܘ ܒܬܪܗ

Immediately they left their nets, and followed him.

ܘܟܕ ܥܒܪ ܩܠܝܠ ܚܙܐ ܠܝܥܩܘܒ ܒܪ ܙܒܕܝ ܘܠܝܘܚܢܢ ܐܚܘܗܝ ܘܐܦ ܠܗܘܢ ܒܣܦܝܢܬܐ ܕܡܬܩܢܝܢ ܡܨܝܕܬܗܘܢ

Going on a little further from there, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John, his brother, who were also in the boat mending the nets.

ܘܩܪܐ ܐܢܘܢ ܘܡܚܕܐ ܫܒܩܘ ܠܙܒܕܝ ܐܒܘܗܘܢ ܒܣܦܝܢܬܐ ܥܡ ܐܓܝܪܐ ܘܐܙܠܘ ܒܬܪܗ

Immediately he called them, and they left their father, Zebedee, in the boat with the hired servants, and went after him.

ܘܟܕ ܥܠܘ ܠܟܦܪܢܚܘܡ ܡܚܕܐ ܡܠܦ ܗܘܐ ܒܫܒܐ ܒܟܢܘܫܬܗܘܢ

They went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath day he entered into the synagogue and taught.

ܘܬܡܝܗܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܒܝܘܠܦܢܗ ܡܠܦ ܗܘܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܓܝܪ ܐܝܟ ܡܫܠܛܐ ܘܠܐ ܐܝܟ ܣܦܪܝܗܘܢ

They were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as having authority, and not as the scribes.

ܘܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܒܟܢܘܫܬܗܘܢ ܓܒܪܐ ܕܐܝܬ ܒܗ ܪܘܚܐ ܛܡܐܬܐ ܘܩܥܐ

Immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, and he cried out,

ܘܐܡܪ ܡܐ ܠܢ ܘܠܟ ܝܫܘܥ ܢܨܪܝܐ ܐܬܝܬ ܠܡܘܒܕܘܬܢ ܝܕܥ ܐܢܐ ܠܟ ܡܢ ܐܢܬ ܩܕܝܫܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ

saying, “Ha! What do we have to do with you, Jesus, you Nazarene? Have you come to destroy us? I know you who you are: the Holy One of God!”

ܘܟܐܐ ܒܗ ܝܫܘܥ ܘܐܡܪ ܣܟܘܪ ܦܘܡܟ ܘܦܘܩ ܡܢܗ

Jesus rebuked him, saying,
“Be quiet, and come out of him!”

ܘܫܕܬܗ ܪܘܚܐ ܛܢܦܬܐ ܘܩܥܬ ܒܩܠܐ ܪܡܐ ܘܢܦܩܬ ܡܢܗ

The unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him.

ܘܐܬܕܡܪܘ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܘܒܥܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܚܕ ܥܡ ܚܕ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܕܡܢܐ ܗܝ ܗܕܐ ܘܡܢܘ ܝܘܠܦܢܐ ܗܢܐ ܚܕܬܐ ܕܒܫܘܠܛܢܐ ܘܐܦ ܠܪܘܚܐ ܛܢܦܬܐ ܦܩܕ ܘܡܫܬܡܥܢ ܠܗ

They were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching? For with authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him!”

ܘܡܚܕܐ ܢܦܩ ܛܒܗ ܒܟܠܗ ܐܬܪܐ ܕܓܠܝܠܐ

The report of him went out immediately everywhere into all the region of Galilee and its surrounding area.

ܘܢܦܩܘ ܡܢ ܟܢܘܫܬܐ ܘܐܬܘ ܠܒܝܬܗ ܕܫܡܥܘܢ ܘܕܐܢܕܪܐܘܣ ܥܡ ܝܥܩܘܒ ܘܝܘܚܢܢ
wnpqw mn knwshth' w'thw lbythh dshmewn wd'ndr'ws em yeqwb wywkhnn
Immediately, when they had come out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.

ܘܚܡܬܗ ܕܫܡܥܘܢ ܪܡܝܐ ܗܘܬ ܒܐܫܬܐ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܗ ܥܠܝܗ

Now Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick with a fever, and immediately they told him about her.

ܘܩܪܒ ܐܚܕܗ ܒܐܝܕܗ ܘܐܩܝܡܗ ܘܡܚܕܐ ܫܒܩܬܗ ܐܫܬܗ ܘܡܫܡܫܐ ܗܘܬ ܠܗܘܢ
wqrb 'khdh b'ydh w'qymh wmkhd' shbqthh 'shthh wmshmsh' hwth lhwn
He came and took her by the hand, and raised her up. The fever left her, and she served them.

ܒܪܡܫܐ ܕܝܢ ܒܡܥܪܒܝ ܫܡܫܐ ܐܝܬܝܘ ܠܘܬܗ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܒܝܫܐܝܬ ܥܒܝܕܝܢ ܘܕܝܘܢܐ

At evening, when the sun had set, they brought to him all who were sick, and those who were possessed by demons.

ܘܡܕܝܢܬܐ ܟܠܗ ܟܢܝܫܐ ܗܘܬ ܥܠ ܬܪܥܐ

All the city was gathered together at the door.

ܘܐܣܝ ܠܣܓܝܐܐ ܕܒܝܫܐܝܬ ܥܒܝܕܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܒܟܘܪܗܢܐ ܡܫܚܠܦܐ ܘܕܝܘܐ ܣܓܝܐܐ ܐܦܩ ܘܠܐ ܫܒܩ ܗܘܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܠܕܝܘܐ ܕܢܡܠܠܘܢ ܡܛܠ ܕܝܕܥܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܗ

He healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons. He didn’t allow the demons to speak, because they knew him.

ܘܒܨܦܪܐ ܩܕܡ ܩܡ ܛܒ ܘܐܙܠ ܠܐܬܪܐ ܚܘܪܒܐ ܘܬܡܢ ܡܨܠܐ ܗܘܐ

Early in the morning, while it was still dark, he rose up and went out, and departed into a deserted place, and prayed there.

ܘܒܥܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܗ ܫܡܥܘܢ ܘܕܥܡܗ

Simon and those who were with him followed after him;

ܘܟܕ ܐܫܟܚܘܗܝ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܐܢܫܐ ܒܥܝܢ ܠܟ
wkd 'shkkhwhy 'mryn lh klhwn 'nsh' beyn lk
and they found him, and told him, “Everyone is looking for you.”

ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܗܠܟܘ ܠܩܘܪܝܐ ܘܠܡܕܝܢܬܐ ܕܩܪܝܒܢ ܕܐܦ ܬܡܢ ܐܟܪܙ ܠܗܕܐ ܓܝܪ ܐܬܝܬ
'mr lhwn hlkw lqwry' wlmdynth' dqrybn d'p thmn 'krz lhd' gyr 'thyth
He said to them,
“Let’s go elsewhere into the next towns, that I may preach there also, because I came out for this reason.”

ܘܡܟܪܙ ܗܘܐ ܒܟܠܗܝܢ ܟܢܘܫܬܗܘܢ ܒܟܠܗ ܓܠܝܠܐ ܘܡܦܩ ܫܐܕܐ

He went into their synagogues throughout all Galilee, preaching and casting out demons.

ܘܐܬܐ ܠܘܬܗ ܓܪܒܐ ܘܢܦܠ ܥܠ ܪܓܠܘܗܝ ܘܒܥܐ ܗܘܐ ܡܢܗ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܐܢ ܨܒܐ ܐܢܬ ܡܫܟܚ ܐܢܬ ܠܡܕܟܝܘܬܝ
w'th' lwthh grb' wnpl el rglwhy wbe' hw' mnh w'mr lh 'n tsb' 'nth mshkkh 'nth lmdkywthy
A leper came to him, begging him, kneeling down to him, and saying to him, “If you want to, you can make me clean.”

ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܐܬܪܚܡ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܘܦܫܛ ܐܝܕܗ ܩܪܒ ܠܗ ܘܐܡܪ ܨܒܐ ܐܢܐ ܐܬܕܟܐ
hw dyn yshwe 'thrkhm elwhy wpshT 'ydh qrb lh w'mr tsb' 'n' 'thdk'
Being moved with compassion, he stretched out his hand, and touched him, and said to him,
“I want to. Be made clean.”

ܘܒܗ ܒܫܥܬܐ ܐܙܠ ܓܪܒܗ ܡܢܗ ܘܐܬܕܟܝ

When he had said this, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was made clean.

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܚܙܝ ܠܡܐ ܠܐܢܫ ܐܡܪ ܐܢܬ ܐܠܐ ܙܠ ܚܘܐ ܢܦܫܟ ܠܟܗܢܐ ܘܩܪܒ ܩܘܪܒܢܐ ܚܠܦ ܬܕܟܝܬܟ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܕܦܩܕ ܡܘܫܐ ܠܣܗܕܘܬܗܘܢ

and said to him,
“See you say nothing to anybody, but go show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing the things which Moses commanded, for a testimony to them.”

ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܟܕ ܢܦܩ ܫܪܝ ܗܘܐ ܡܟܪܙ ܣܓܝ ܘܐܛܒܗ ܠܡܠܬܐ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܕܠܐ ܢܫܟܚ ܗܘܐ ܝܫܘܥ ܓܠܝܐܝܬ ܕܢܥܘܠ ܠܡܕܝܢܬܐ ܐܠܐ ܠܒܪ ܗܘܐ ܒܐܬܪܐ ܚܘܪܒܐ ܘܐܬܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܘܬܗ ܡܢ ܟܠ ܕܘܟܐ

But he went out, and began to proclaim it much, and to spread about the matter, so that Jesus could no more openly enter into a city, but was outside in desert places: and they came to him from everywhere.
