ܘܫܪܝ ܕܢܡܠܠ ܥܡܗܘܢ ܒܡܬܠܐ ܓܒܪܐ ܚܕ ܢܨܒ ܟܪܡܐ ܘܐܚܕܪܗ ܣܝܓܐ ܘܚܦܪ ܒܗ ܡܥܨܪܬܐ ܘܒܢܐ ܒܗ ܡܓܕܠܐ ܘܐܘܚܕܗ ܠܦܠܚܐ ܘܚܙܩ
wshry dnmll emhwn bmthl' gbr' khd ntsb krm' w'khdrh syg' wkhpr bh metsrth' wbn' bh mgdl' w'wkhdh lplkh' wkhzq
He began to speak to them in parables.
“A man planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it, dug a pit for the wine press, built a tower, rented it out to a farmer, and went into another country.

ܘܫܕܪ ܠܘܬ ܦܠܚܐ ܥܒܕܗ ܒܙܒܢܐ ܕܡܢ ܦܐܪܐ ܕܟܪܡܐ ܢܣܒ

When it was time, he sent a servant to the farmer to get from the farmer his share of the fruit of the vineyard.

ܗܢܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܡܚܐܘܗܝ ܘܫܕܪܘܗܝ ܟܕ ܣܦܝܩ
hnwn dyn mkh'why wshdrwhy kd spyq
They took him, beat him, and sent him away empty.

ܘܫܕܪ ܬܘܒ ܠܘܬܗܘܢ ܥܒܕܐ ܐܚܪܢܐ ܘܐܦ ܠܗܘ ܪܓܡܘܗܝ ܘܨܠܦܘܗܝ ܘܫܕܪܘܗܝ ܒܨܥܪܐ
wshdr thwb lwthhwn ebd' 'khrn' w'p lhw rgmwhy wtslpwhy wshdrwhy btser'
Again, he sent another servant to them; and they threw stones at him, wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully treated.

ܘܫܕܪ ܬܘܒ ܐܚܪܢܐ ܐܦ ܠܗܘ ܩܛܠܘܗܝ ܘܠܣܓܝܐܐ ܥܒܕܐ ܐܚܪܢܐ ܫܕܪ ܘܡܢܗܘܢ ܡܚܘ ܡܢܗܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܩܛܠܘ

Again he sent another; and they killed him; and many others, beating some, and killing some.

ܚܪܬܐ ܕܝܢ ܚܕ ܒܪܐ ܚܒܝܒܐ ܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܘܫܕܪܗ ܠܘܬܗܘܢ ܐܚܪܝܬ ܐܡܪ ܓܝܪ ܟܒܪ ܢܒܗܬܘܢ ܡܢ ܒܪܝ
khrth' dyn khd br' khbyb' 'yth hw' lh wshdrh lwthhwn 'khryth 'mr gyr kbr nbhthwn mn bry
Therefore still having one, his beloved son, he sent him last to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’

ܗܢܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܦܠܚܐ ܐܡܪܘ ܒܢܦܫܗܘܢ ܗܢܘ ܝܪܬܐ ܬܘ ܢܩܛܠܝܘܗܝ ܘܬܗܘܐ ܕܝܠܢ ܝܪܬܘܬܐ
hnwn dyn plkh' 'mrw bnpshhwn hnw yrth' thw nqTlywhy wthhw' dyln yrthwth'
But those farmers said among themselves, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’

ܘܢܣܒܘ ܩܛܠܘܗܝ ܘܐܦܩܘܗܝ ܠܒܪ ܡܢ ܟܪܡܐ
wnsbw qTlwhy w'pqwhy lbr mn krm'
They took him, killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard.

ܡܢܐ ܗܟܝܠ ܢܥܒܕ ܡܪܐ ܟܪܡܐ ܢܐܬܐ ܢܘܒܕ ܠܗܢܘܢ ܦܠܚܐ ܘܢܬܠܝܘܗܝ ܟܪܡܐ ܠܐܚܪܢܐ
mn' hkyl nebd mr' krm' n'th' nwbd lhnwn plkh' wnthlywhy krm' l'khrn'
What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the farmers, and will give the vineyard to others.

ܘܐܦܠܐ ܟܬܒܐ ܗܢܐ ܩܪܝܬܘܢ ܕܟܐܦܐ ܕܐܣܠܝܘ ܒܢܝܐ ܗܝ ܗܘܬ ܠܪܫܐ ܕܙܘܝܬܐ
w'pl' kthb' hn' qrythwn dk'p' d'slyw bny' hy hwth lrsh' dzwyth'
Haven’t you even read this Scripture:
‘The stone which the builders rejected,
the same was made the head of the corner.

ܡܢ ܠܘܬ ܡܪܝܐ ܗܘܬ ܗܕܐ ܘܐܝܬܝܗ ܬܕܡܘܪܬܐ ܒܥܝܢܝܢ
mn lwth mry' hwth hd' w'ythyh thdmwrth' beynyn
This was from the Lord,
it is marvelous in our eyes’?”

ܘܒܥܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܡܐܚܕܗ ܘܕܚܠܘ ܡܢ ܥܡܐ ܝܕܥܘ ܓܝܪ ܕܥܠܝܗܘܢ ܐܡܪ ܡܬܠܐ ܗܢܐ ܘܫܒܩܘܗܝ ܘܐܙܠܘ
wbeyn hww lm'khdh wdkhlw mn em' ydew gyr delyhwn 'mr mthl' hn' wshbqwhy w'zlw
They tried to seize him, but they feared the multitude; for they perceived that he spoke the parable against them. They left him, and went away.

ܘܫܕܪܘ ܠܘܬܗ ܐܢܫܐ ܡܢ ܣܦܪܐ ܘܡܢ ܕܒܝܬ ܗܪܘܕܣ ܕܢܨܘܕܘܢܝܗܝ ܒܡܠܬܐ

They sent some of the Pharisees and the Herodians to him, that they might trap him with words.

ܗܢܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܐܬܘ ܘܫܐܠܘܗܝ ܡܠܦܢܐ ܝܕܥܝܢ ܚܢܢ ܕܫܪܝܪ ܐܢܬ ܘܠܐ ܫܩܝܠ ܐܢܬ ܨܦܬܐ ܠܐܢܫ ܠܐ ܓܝܪ ܚܐܪ ܐܢܬ ܒܦܪܨܘܦܐ ܕܒܢܝ ܐܢܫܐ ܐܠܐ ܒܫܪܪܐ ܐܘܪܚܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܡܠܦ ܐܢܬ ܫܠܝܛ ܠܡܬܠ ܟܣܦ ܪܫܐ ܠܩܣܪ ܐܘ ܠܐ ܢܬܠ ܐܘ ܠܐ ܢܬܠ

When they had come, they asked him, “Teacher, we know that you are honest, and don’t defer to anyone; for you aren’t partial to anyone, but truly teach the way of God. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?

ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܝܕܥ ܢܟܠܗܘܢ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܡܢܐ ܡܢܣܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܝ ܐܝܬܘ ܠܝ ܕܝܢܪܐ ܐܚܙܐ
hw dyn yde nklhwn w'mr lhwn mn' mnsyn 'nthwn ly 'ythw ly dynr' 'khz'
Shall we give, or shall we not give?”
But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them,
“Why do you test me? Bring me a denarius, that I may see it.”

ܘܐܝܬܝܘ ܠܗ ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܕܡܢܘ ܨܠܡܐ ܗܢܐ ܘܟܬܒܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܐܡܪܘ ܕܩܣܪ
w'ythyw lh 'mr lhwn dmnw tslm' hn' wkthb' hnwn dyn 'mrw dqsr
They brought it.
He said to them,
“Whose is this image and inscription?”
They said to him, “Caesar’s.”

ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܕܩܣܪ ܗܒܘ ܠܩܣܪ ܘܕܐܠܗܐ ܠܐܠܗܐ ܘܬܡܗܘ ܗܘܘ ܒܗ
'mr lhwn yshwe dqsr hbw lqsr wd'lh' l'lh' wthmhw hww bh
Jesus answered them,
“Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
They marveled greatly at him.

ܘܐܬܘ ܙܕܘܩܝܐ ܠܘܬܗ ܗܢܘܢ ܕܐܡܪܝܢ ܕܩܝܡܬܐ ܠܝܬ ܘܡܫܐܠܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܗ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ

There came to him Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection. They asked him, saying,

ܡܠܦܢܐ ܡܘܫܐ ܟܬܒ ܠܢ ܕܐܢ ܡܐܬ ܐܚܘܗܝ ܕܐܢܫ ܘܫܒܩ ܐܢܬܬܐ ܘܒܢܝܐ ܠܐ ܫܒܩ ܢܣܒ ܐܚܘܗܝ ܐܢܬܬܗ ܘܢܩܝܡ ܙܪܥܐ ܠܐܚܘܗܝ

“Teacher, Moses wrote to us, ‘If a man’s brother dies, and leaves a wife behind him, and leaves no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up offspring for his brother.’

ܫܒܥܐ ܐܚܝܢ ܐܝܬ ܗܘܘ ܩܕܡܝܐ ܢܣܒ ܐܢܬܬܐ ܘܡܝܬ ܘܠܐ ܫܒܩ ܙܪܥܐ
shbe' 'khyn 'yth hww qdmy' nsb 'nthth' wmyth wl' shbq zre'
There were seven brothers. The first took a wife, and dying left no offspring.

ܘܕܬܪܝܢ ܢܣܒܗ ܘܡܝܬ ܟܕ ܐܦ ܠܐ ܗܘ ܫܒܩ ܙܪܥܐ ܘܕܬܠܬܐ ܗܟܘܬ

The second took her, and died, leaving no children behind him. The third likewise;

ܘܫܒܥܬܝܗܘܢ ܢܣܒܘܗ ܘܠܐ ܫܒܩܘ ܙܪܥܐ ܐܚܪܝܬ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܡܝܬܬ ܐܦ ܗܝ ܐܢܬܬܐ
wshbethyhwn nsbwh wl' shbqw zre' 'khryth klhwn mythth 'p hy 'nthth'
and the seven took her and left no children. Last of all the woman also died.

ܒܩܝܡܬܐ ܗܟܝܠ ܕܐܝܢܐ ܡܢܗܘܢ ܬܗܘܐ ܐܢܬܬܐ ܫܒܥܬܝܗܘܢ ܓܝܪ ܢܣܒܘܗ
bqymth' hkyl d'yn' mnhwn thhw' 'nthth' shbethyhwn gyr nsbwh
In the resurrection, when they rise, whose wife will she be of them? For the seven had her as a wife.”

ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܡܛܠ ܗܕܐ ܛܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܠܐ ܝܕܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܟܬܒܐ ܘܠܐ ܚܝܠܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ
'mr lhwn yshwe l' hw' mTl hd' Teyn 'nthwn dl' ydeyn 'nthwn kthb' wl' khylh d'lh'
Jesus answered them,
“Isn’t this because you are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God?

ܡܐ ܓܝܪ ܕܩܡܘ ܡܢ ܡܝܬܐ ܠܐ ܢܣܒܝܢ ܢܫܐ ܐܦ ܠܐ ܢܫܐ ܗܘܝܢ ܠܓܒܪܐ ܐܠܐ ܐܝܬܝܗܘܢ ܐܝܟ ܡܠܐܟܐ ܕܒܫܡܝܐ

For when they will rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.

ܥܠ ܡܝܬܐ ܕܝܢ ܕܩܝܡܝܢ ܠܐ ܩܪܝܬܘܢ ܒܟܬܒܐ ܕܡܘܫܐ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܡܢ ܣܢܝܐ ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܐܠܗܐ ܐܢܐ ܐܢܐ ܐܠܗܗ ܕܐܒܪܗܡ ܘܐܠܗܗ ܕܐܝܣܚܩ ܘܐܠܗܗ ܕܝܥܩܘܒ

But about the dead, that they are raised; haven’t you read in the book of Moses, about the Bush, how God spoke to him, saying, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’?

ܘܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܡܝܬܐ ܐܠܐ ܕܚܝܐ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܗܟܝܠ ܣܓܝ ܛܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ

He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are therefore badly mistaken.”

ܘܩܪܒ ܚܕ ܡܢ ܣܦܪܐ ܘܫܡܥ ܐܢܘܢ ܕܕܪܫܝܢ ܘܚܙܐ ܕܫܦܝܪ ܐܬܝܒ ܠܗܘܢ ܦܬܓܡܐ ܘܫܐܠܗ ܐܝܢܘ ܦܘܩܕܢܐ ܩܕܡܝܐ ܕܟܠܗܘܢ

One of the scribes came, and heard them questioning together. Knowing that he had answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the greatest of all?”

Jesus answered,
“The greatest is, ‘Hear, Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one:

ܘܕܬܪܚܡ ܠܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܟ ܡܢ ܟܠܗ ܠܒܟ ܘܡܢ ܟܠܗ ܢܦܫܟ ܘܡܢ ܟܠܗ ܪܥܝܢܟ ܘܡܢ ܟܠܗ ܚܝܠܟ ܗܢܘ ܦܘܩܕܢܐ ܩܕܡܝܐ

you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’
This is the first commandment.

ܘܕܬܪܝܢ ܕܕܡܐ ܠܗ ܕܬܚܒ ܠܩܪܝܒܟ ܐܝܟ ܢܦܫܟ ܦܘܩܕܢܐ ܐܚܪܢܐ ܕܪܒ ܡܢ ܗܠܝܢ ܠܝܬ

The second is like this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
There is no other commandment greater than these.”

ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܗܘ ܣܦܪܐ ܫܦܝܪ ܪܒܝ ܒܫܪܪܐ ܐܡܪܬ ܕܚܕ ܗܘ ܘܠܝܬ ܐܚܪܝܢ ܠܒܪ ܡܢܗ

The scribe said to him, “Truly, teacher, you have said well that he is one, and there is none other but he,

ܘܕܢܪܚܡܝܘܗܝ ܐܢܫ ܡܢ ܟܠܗ ܠܒܐ ܘܡܢ ܟܠܗ ܪܥܝܢܐ ܘܡܢ ܟܠܗ ܢܦܫܐ ܘܡܢ ܟܠܗ ܚܝܠܐ ܘܕܢܪܚܡ ܩܪܝܒܗ ܐܝܟ ܢܦܫܗ ܝܬܝܪܐ ܗܝ ܡܢ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܝܩܕܐ ܘܕܒܚܐ
wdnrkhmywhy 'nsh mn klh lb' wmn klh reyn' wmn klh npsh' wmn klh khyl' wdnrkhm qrybh 'yk npshh ythyr' hy mn klhwn yqd' wdbkh'
and to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbor as himself, is more important than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

ܝܫܘܥ ܕܝܢ ܚܙܝܗܝ ܕܚܟܝܡܐܝܬ ܡܦܢܐ ܦܬܓܡܐ ܥܢܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܠܐ ܗܘܝܬ ܪܚܝܩ ܡܢ ܡܠܟܘܬܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܘܠܐ ܐܢܫ ܬܘܒ ܐܡܪܚ ܕܢܫܐܠܝܘܗܝ
yshwe dyn khzyhy dkhkym'yth mpn' pthgm' en' w'mr lh l' hwyth rkhyq mn mlkwth' d'lh' wl' 'nsh thwb 'mrkh dnsh'lywhy
When Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him,
“You are not far from God’s Kingdom.”
No one dared ask him any question after that.

ܘܥܢܐ ܝܫܘܥ ܘܐܡܪ ܟܕ ܡܠܦ ܒܗܝܟܠܐ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܣܦܪܐ ܕܡܫܝܚܐ ܒܪܗ ܗܘ ܕܕܘܝܕ

Jesus responded, as he taught in the temple,
“How is it that the scribes say that the Christ is the son of David?

ܗܘ ܓܝܪ ܕܘܝܕ ܐܡܪ ܒܪܘܚܐ ܕܩܘܕܫܐ ܕܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܠܡܪܝ ܬܒ ܠܟ ܡܢ ܝܡܝܢܝ ܥܕܡܐ ܕܐܣܝܡ ܒܥܠܕܒܒܝܟ ܟܘܒܫܐ ܬܚܝܬ ܪܓܠܝܟ
hw gyr dwyd 'mr brwkh' dqwdsh' d'mr mry' lmry thb lk mn ymyny edm' d'sym beldbbyk kwbsh' thkhyth rglyk
For David himself said in the Holy Spirit,
‘The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at my right hand,
until I make your enemies the footstool of your feet.”’

ܗܘ ܗܟܝܠ ܕܘܝܕ ܩܪܐ ܠܗ ܡܪܝ ܘܐܝܟܢܐ ܒܪܗ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܘܟܠܗ ܟܢܫܐ ܫܡܥ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܒܣܝܡܐܝܬ
hw hkyl dwyd qr' lh mry w'ykn' brh 'ythwhy wklh knsh' shme hw' lh bsym'yth
Therefore David himself calls him Lord, so how can he be his son?”
The common people heard him gladly.

ܘܒܝܘܠܦܢܗ ܐܡܪ ܗܘܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܐܙܕܗܪܘ ܡܢ ܣܦܪܐ ܕܨܒܝܢ ܕܒܐܣܛܠܐ ܢܗܠܟܘܢ ܘܪܚܡܝܢ ܫܠܡܐ ܒܫܘܩܐ
wbywlpnh 'mr hw' lhwn 'zdhrw mn spr' dtsbyn db'sTl' nhlkwn wrkhmyn shlm' bshwq'
In his teaching he said to them,
“Beware of the scribes, who like to walk in long robes, and to get greetings in the marketplaces,

ܘܪܝܫ ܡܘܬܒܐ ܒܟܢܘܫܬܐ ܘܪܝܫ ܣܡܟܐ ܒܚܫܡܝܬܐ

and the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts:

ܗܢܘܢ ܕܐܟܠܝܢ ܒܬܐ ܕܐܪܡܠܬܐ ܒܥܠܬܐ ܕܡܘܪܟܝܢ ܨܠܘܬܗܘܢ ܗܢܘܢ ܢܩܒܠܘܢ ܕܝܢܐ ܝܬܝܪܐ
hnwn d'klyn bth' d'rmlth' belth' dmwrkyn tslwthhwn hnwn nqblwn dyn' ythyr'
those who devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation.”

ܘܟܕ ܝܬܒ ܝܫܘܥ ܠܘܩܒܠ ܒܝܬ ܓܙܐ ܚܐܪ ܗܘܐ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܟܢܫܐ ܪܡܝܢ ܥܘܪܦܢܐ ܒܝܬ ܓܙܐ ܘܣܓܝܐܐ ܥܬܝܪܐ ܪܡܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܣܓܝ

Jesus sat down opposite the treasury, and saw how the multitude cast money into the treasury. Many who were rich cast in much.

ܘܐܬܬ ܐܪܡܠܬܐ ܚܕܐ ܡܣܟܢܬܐ ܐܪܡܝܬ ܬܪܝܢ ܡܢܝܢ ܕܐܝܬܝܗܘܢ ܫܡܘܢܐ

ܘܩܪܐ ܝܫܘܥ ܠܬܠܡܝܕܘܗܝ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܐܡܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܐܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܕܗܕܐ ܐܪܡܠܬܐ ܡܣܟܢܬܐ ܝܬܝܪ ܡܢ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܐܢܫܐ ܕܪܡܝܢ ܐܪܡܝܬ ܒܝܬ ܓܙܐ
wqr' yshwe lthlmydwhy w'mr lhwn 'myn 'mr 'n' lkwn dhd' 'rmlth' msknth' ythyr mn klhwn 'nsh' drmyn 'rmyth byth gz'
He called his disciples to himself, and said to them,
“Most certainly I tell you, this poor widow gave more than all those who are giving into the treasury,

ܟܠܗܘܢ ܓܝܪ ܡܢ ܡܕܡ ܕܝܬܝܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܐܪܡܝܘ ܗܕܐ ܕܝܢ ܡܢ ܚܣܝܪܘܬܗ ܟܠ ܡܕܡ ܕܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܐܪܡܝܬܗ ܟܠܗ ܩܢܝܢܗ
klhwn gyr mn mdm dythyr lhwn 'rmyw hd' dyn mn khsyrwthh kl mdm d'yth hw' lh 'rmythh klh qnynh
for they all gave out of their abundance, but she, out of her poverty, gave all that she had to live on.”
