ܡܬܩܪܒܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܕܝܢ ܠܘܬܗ ܡܟܣܐ ܘܚܛܝܐ ܕܢܫܡܥܘܢܝܗܝ

Now all the tax collectors and sinners were coming close to him to hear him.

ܘܣܦܪܐ ܘܦܪܝܫܐ ܪܛܢܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܗܢܐ ܠܚܛܝܐ ܡܩܒܠ ܘܐܟܠ ܥܡܗܘܢ

The Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, “This man welcomes sinners, and eats with them.”

ܡܢܘ ܡܢܟܘܢ ܓܒܪܐ ܕܐܝܬ ܠܗ ܡܐܐ ܥܪܒܝܢ ܘܐܢ ܢܐܒܕ ܚܕ ܡܢܗܘܢ ܠܐ ܫܒܩ ܬܫܥܝܢ ܘܬܫܥܐ ܒܕܒܪܐ ܘܐܙܠ ܒܥܐ ܠܗܘ ܕܐܒܕ ܥܕܡܐ ܕܢܫܟܚܝܘܗܝ
mnw mnkwn gbr' d'yth lh m'' erbyn w'n n'bd khd mnhwn l' shbq thsheyn wthshe' bdbr' w'zl be' lhw d'bd edm' dnshkkhywhy
“Which of you men, if you had one hundred sheep, and lost one of them, wouldn’t leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one that was lost, until he found it?

ܘܡܐ ܕܐܫܟܚܗ ܚܕܐ ܘܫܩܠ ܠܗ ܥܠ ܟܬܦܬܗ

When he has found it, he carries it on his shoulders, rejoicing.

ܘܐܬܐ ܠܒܝܬܗ ܘܩܪܐ ܠܪܚܡܘܗܝ ܘܠܫܒܒܘܗܝ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܚܕܘ ܥܡܝ ܕܐܫܟܚܬ ܥܪܒܝ ܕܐܒܝܕ ܗܘܐ
w'th' lbythh wqr' lrkhmwhy wlshbbwhy w'mr lhwn khdw emy d'shkkhth erby d'byd hw'
When he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’

ܐܡܪ ܐܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܕܗܟܢܐ ܬܗܘܐ ܚܕܘܬܐ ܒܫܡܝܐ ܥܠ ܚܕ ܚܛܝܐ ܕܬܐܒ ܐܘ ܥܠ ܬܫܥܝܢ ܘܬܫܥܐ ܙܕܝܩܝܢ ܕܠܐ ܡܬܒܥܝܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܬܝܒܘܬܐ
'mr 'n' lkwn dhkn' thhw' khdwth' bshmy' el khd khTy' dth'b 'w el thsheyn wthshe' zdyqyn dl' mthbey' lhwn thybwth'
I tell you that even so there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, than over ninety-nine righteous people who need no repentance.

ܐܘ ܐܝܕܐ ܗܝ ܐܢܬܬܐ ܕܐܝܬ ܠܗ ܥܣܪܐ ܙܘܙܝܢ ܘܬܘܒܕ ܚܕ ܡܢܗܘܢ ܘܠܐ ܡܢܗܪܐ ܫܪܓܐ ܘܚܡܐ ܒܝܬܐ ܘܒܥܝܐ ܠܗ ܒܛܝܠܐܝܬ ܥܕܡܐ ܕܬܫܟܚܝܘܗܝ
'w 'yd' hy 'nthth' d'yth lh esr' zwzyn wthwbd khd mnhwn wl' mnhr' shrg' wkhm' byth' wbey' lh bTyl'yth edm' dthshkkhywhy
Or what woman, if she had ten drachma
coins, if she lost one drachma coin, wouldn’t light a lamp, sweep the house, and seek diligently until she found it?

ܘܡܐ ܕܐܫܟܚܬܗ ܩܪܝܐ ܠܪܚܡܬܗ ܘܠܫܒܒܬܗ ܘܐܡܪܐ ܠܗܝܢ ܚܕܝܝܢ ܥܡܝ ܕܐܫܟܚܬ ܙܘܙܝ ܕܐܒܝܕ ܗܘܐ
wm' d'shkkhthh qry' lrkhmthh wlshbbthh w'mr' lhyn khdyyn emy d'shkkhth zwzy d'byd hw'
When she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the drachma which I had lost.’

ܐܡܪ ܐܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܕܗܟܢܐ ܬܗܘܐ ܚܕܘܬܐ ܩܕܡ ܡܠܐܟܘܗܝ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܥܠ ܚܕ ܚܛܝܐ ܕܬܐܒ
'mr 'n' lkwn dhkn' thhw' khdwth' qdm ml'kwhy d'lh' el khd khTy' dth'b
Even so, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner repenting.”

ܘܐܡܪ ܗܘܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܬܘܒ ܝܫܘܥ ܠܓܒܪܐ ܚܕ ܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܒܢܝܐ ܬܪܝܢ

He said,
“A certain man had two sons.

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܒܪܗ ܙܥܘܪܐ ܐܒܝ ܗܒ ܠܝ ܦܠܓܘܬܐ ܕܡܛܝܐ ܠܝ ܡܢ ܒܝܬܟ ܘܦܠܓ ܠܗܘܢ ܩܢܝܢܗ

The younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of your property.’ He divided his livelihood between them.

ܘܡܢ ܒܬܪ ܝܘܡܬܐ ܩܠܝܠ ܟܢܫ ܗܘ ܒܪܗ ܙܥܘܪܐ ܟܠ ܡܕܡ ܕܡܛܝܗܝ ܘܐܙܠ ܠܐܬܪܐ ܪܚܝܩܐ ܘܬܡܢ ܒܕܪ ܩܢܝܢܗ ܟܕ ܚܝܐ ܦܪܚܐܝܬ
wmn bthr ywmth' qlyl knsh hw brh zewr' kl mdm dmTyhy w'zl l'thr' rkhyq' wthmn bdr qnynh kd khy' prkh'yth
Not many days after, the younger son gathered all of this together and traveled into a far country. There he wasted his property with riotous living.

ܘܟܕ ܓܡܪ ܟܠ ܡܕܡ ܕܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܗܘܐ ܟܦܢܐ ܪܒܐ ܒܐܬܪܐ ܗܘ ܘܫܪܝ ܚܣܪ ܠܗ

When he had spent all of it, there arose a severe famine in that country, and he began to be in need.

ܘܐܙܠ ܢܩܦ ܠܗ ܠܚܕ ܡܢ ܒܢܝ ܡܕܝܢܬܐ ܕܐܬܪܐ ܗܘ ܘܗܘ ܫܕܪܗ ܠܩܪܝܬܐ ܠܡܪܥܐ ܚܙܝܪܐ
w'zl nqp lh lkhd mn bny mdynth' d'thr' hw whw shdrh lqryth' lmre' khzyr'
He went and joined himself to one of the citizens of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed pigs.

ܘܡܬܪܓܪܓ ܗܘܐ ܠܡܡܠܐ ܟܪܣܗ ܡܢ ܚܪܘܒܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܕܐܟܠܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܚܙܝܪܐ ܘܠܐ ܐܢܫ ܝܗܒ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ

He wanted to fill his belly with the husks that the pigs ate, but no one gave him any.

ܘܟܕ ܐܬܐ ܠܘܬ ܢܦܫܗ ܐܡܪ ܟܡܐ ܗܫܐ ܐܓܝܪܐ ܐܝܬ ܒܝܬ ܐܒܝ ܕܝܬܝܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܠܚܡܐ ܘܐܢܐ ܗܪܟܐ ܠܟܦܢܝ ܐܒܕ ܐܢܐ
wkd 'th' lwth npshh 'mr km' hsh' 'gyr' 'yth byth 'by dythyr lhwn lkhm' w'n' hrk' lkpny 'bd 'n'
But when he came to himself he said, ‘How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough to spare, and I’m dying with hunger!

ܐܩܘܡ ܐܙܠ ܠܘܬ ܐܒܝ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܐܒܝ ܚܛܝܬ ܒܫܡܝܐ ܘܩܕܡܝܟ
'qwm 'zl lwth 'by w'mr lh 'by khTyth bshmy' wqdmyk
I will get up and go to my father, and will tell him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight.

ܘܠܐ ܡܟܝܠ ܫܘܐ ܐܢܐ ܕܒܪܟ ܐܬܩܪܐ ܥܒܕܝܢܝ ܐܝܟ ܚܕ ܡܢ ܐܓܝܪܝܟ
wl' mkyl shw' 'n' dbrk 'thqr' ebdyny 'yk khd mn 'gyryk
I am no more worthy to be called your son. Make me as one of your hired servants.”’

ܘܩܡ ܐܬܐ ܠܘܬ ܐܒܘܗܝ ܘܥܕ ܗܘ ܪܚܝܩ ܚܙܝܗܝ ܐܒܘܗܝ ܘܐܬܪܚܡ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܘܪܗܛ ܢܦܠ ܥܠ ܨܘܪܗ ܘܢܫܩܗ
wqm 'th' lwth 'bwhy wed hw rkhyq khzyhy 'bwhy w'thrkhm elwhy wrhT npl el tswrh wnshqh
“He arose, and came to his father. But while he was still far off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܒܪܗ ܐܒܝ ܚܛܝܬ ܒܫܡܝܐ ܘܩܕܡܝܟ ܘܠܐ ܫܘܐ ܐܢܐ ܕܒܪܟ ܐܬܩܪܐ

The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’

ܐܡܪ ܕܝܢ ܐܒܘܗܝ ܠܥܒܕܘܗܝ ܐܦܩܘ ܐܣܛܠܐ ܪܫܝܬܐ ܐܠܒܫܘܗܝ ܘܣܝܡܘ ܥܙܩܬܐ ܒܐܝܕܗ ܘܐܣܐܢܘܗܝ ܡܣܢܐ
'mr dyn 'bwhy lebdwhy 'pqw 'sTl' rshyth' 'lbshwhy wsymw ezqth' b'ydh w's'nwhy msn'
“But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe, and put it on him. Put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet.

ܘܐܝܬܘ ܩܛܘܠܘ ܬܘܪܐ ܕܦܛܡܐ ܘܢܐܟܘܠ ܘܢܬܒܣܡ

Bring the fattened calf, kill it, and let us eat, and celebrate;

ܕܗܢܐ ܒܪܝ ܡܝܬܐ ܗܘܐ ܘܚܝܐ ܘܐܒܝܕܐ ܗܘܐ ܘܐܫܬܟܚ ܘܫܪܝܘ ܠܡܬܒܣܡܘ
dhn' bry myth' hw' wkhy' w'byd' hw' w'shthkkh wshryw lmthbsmw
for this, my son, was dead, and is alive again. He was lost, and is found.’ They began to celebrate.

ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܒܪܗ ܩܫܝܫܐ ܒܩܪܝܬܐ ܗܘܐ ܘܟܕ ܐܬܐ ܘܩܪܒ ܠܘܬ ܒܝܬܐ ܫܡܥ ܩܠ ܙܡܪܐ ܕܣܓܝܐܐ
hw dyn brh qshysh' bqryth' hw' wkd 'th' wqrb lwth byth' shme ql zmr' dsgy''
“Now his elder son was in the field. As he came near to the house, he heard music and dancing.

ܘܩܪܐ ܠܚܕ ܡܢ ܛܠܝܐ ܘܫܐܠܗ ܡܢܘ ܗܢܐ
wqr' lkhd mn Tly' wsh'lh mnw hn'
He called one of the servants to him, and asked what was going on.

ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܐܚܘܟ ܐܬܐ ܘܩܛܠ ܐܒܘܟ ܬܘܪܐ ܕܦܛܡܐ ܕܟܕ ܚܠܝܡ ܐܩܒܠܗ
'mr lh 'khwk 'th' wqTl 'bwk thwr' dpTm' dkd khlym 'qblh
He said to him, ‘Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fattened calf, because he has received him back safe and healthy.’

ܘܪܓܙ ܘܠܐ ܨܒܐ ܗܘܐ ܠܡܥܠ ܘܢܦܩ ܐܒܘܗܝ ܒܥܐ ܡܢܗ

But he was angry, and would not go in. Therefore his father came out, and begged him.

ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܠܐܒܘܗܝ ܗܐ ܟܡܐ ܫܢܝܢ ܦܠܚ ܐܢܐ ܠܟ ܥܒܕܘܬܐ ܘܠܐ ܡܡܬܘܡ ܥܒܪܬ ܦܘܩܕܢܟ ܘܡܢ ܡܬܘܡ ܓܕܝܐ ܠܐ ܝܗܒܬ ܠܝ ܕܐܬܒܣܡ ܥܡ ܪܚܡܝ
hw dyn 'mr l'bwhy h' km' shnyn plkh 'n' lk ebdwth' wl' mmthwm ebrth pwqdnk wmn mthwm gdy' l' yhbth ly d'thbsm em rkhmy
But he answered his father, ‘Behold, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed a commandment of yours, but you never gave me a goat, that I might celebrate with my friends.

ܠܗܢܐ ܕܝܢ ܒܪܟ ܟܕ ܦܪܚ ܩܢܝܢܟ ܥܡ ܙܢܝܬܐ ܘܐܬܐ ܢܟܣܬ ܠܗ ܬܘܪܐ ܕܦܛܡܐ
lhn' dyn brk kd prkh qnynk em znyth' w'th' nksth lh thwr' dpTm'
But when this your son came, who has devoured your living with prostitutes, you killed the fattened calf for him.’

ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܐܒܘܗܝ ܒܪܝ ܐܢܬ ܒܟܠܙܒܢ ܥܡܝ ܐܢܬ ܘܟܠܡܕܡ ܕܝܠܝ ܕܝܠܟ ܗܘ
'mr lh 'bwhy bry 'nth bklzbn emy 'nth wklmdm dyly dylk hw
“He said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours.

ܠܡܒܣܡ ܕܝܢ ܘܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܠܢ ܘܠܡܚܕܐ ܕܗܢܐ ܐܚܘܟ ܡܝܬܐ ܗܘܐ ܘܚܝܐ ܘܐܒܝܕܐ ܗܘܐ ܘܐܫܬܟܚ
lmbsm dyn wl' hw' ln wlmkhd' dhn' 'khwk myth' hw' wkhy' w'byd' hw' w'shthkkh
But it was appropriate to celebrate and be glad, for this, your brother, was dead, and is alive again. He was lost, and is found.’”
