ܘܗܘܐ ܕܟܕ ܥܠ ܠܒܝܬܐ ܕܚܕ ܡܢ ܪܫܐ ܕܦܪܝܫܐ ܕܢܐܟܘܠ ܠܚܡܐ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܕܫܒܬܐ ܘܗܢܘܢ ܢܛܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܗ

When he went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees on a Sabbath to eat bread, they were watching him.

ܘܗܐ ܓܒܪܐ ܚܕ ܕܟܢܝܫ ܗܘܐ ܡܝܐ ܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܩܕܡܘܗܝ

Behold, a certain man who had dropsy was in front of him.

ܘܥܢܐ ܝܫܘܥ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܣܦܪܐ ܘܠܦܪܝܫܐ ܕܐܢ ܫܠܝܛ ܒܫܒܬܐ ܠܡܐܣܝܘ

Jesus, answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying,
“Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”

ܗܢܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܫܬܩܘ ܘܐܚܕܗ ܗܘ ܘܐܣܝܗ ܘܫܪܝܗܝ
hnwn dyn shthqw w'khdh hw w'syh wshryhy
But they were silent.
He took him, and healed him, and let him go.

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܡܢܘ ܡܢܟܘܢ ܕܢܦܠ ܒܪܗ ܐܘ ܬܘܪܗ ܒܒܪܐ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܕܫܒܬܐ ܘܠܐ ܡܚܕܐ ܕܠܐ ܡܣܩ ܠܗ
w'mr lhwn mnw mnkwn dnpl brh 'w thwrh bbr' bywm' dshbth' wl' mkhd' dl' msq lh
He answered them,
“Which of you, if your son
or an ox fell into a well, wouldn’t immediately pull him out on a Sabbath day?”

ܘܠܐ ܐܫܟܚܘ ܠܡܬܠ ܠܗ ܦܬܓܡܐ ܥܠ ܗܕܐ

They couldn’t answer him regarding these things.

ܘܐܡܪ ܗܘܐ ܡܬܠܐ ܠܘܬ ܗܢܘܢ ܕܡܙܡܢܝܢ ܬܡܢ ܥܠ ܕܚܙܐ ܗܘܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܕܡܓܒܝܢ ܕܘܟܝܬܐ ܕܪܝܫ ܣܡܟܐ
w'mr hw' mthl' lwth hnwn dmzmnyn thmn el dkhz' hw' lhwn dmgbyn dwkyth' drysh smk'
He spoke a parable to those who were invited, when he noticed how they chose the best seats, and said to them,

ܐܡܬܝ ܕܡܙܕܡܢ ܐܢܬ ܡܢ ܐܢܫ ܠܒܝܬ ܡܫܬܘܬܐ ܠܐ ܬܐܙܠ ܬܣܬܡܟ ܠܟ ܒܪܝܫ ܣܡܟܐ ܕܠܡܐ ܢܗܘܐ ܡܙܡܢ ܬܡܢ ܐܢܫ ܕܡܝܩܪ ܡܢܟ
'mthy dmzdmn 'nth mn 'nsh lbyth mshthwth' l' th'zl thsthmk lk brysh smk' dlm' nhw' mzmn thmn 'nsh dmyqr mnk
“When you are invited by anyone to a marriage feast, don’t sit in the best seat, since perhaps someone more honorable than you might be invited by him,

ܘܢܐܬܐ ܗܘ ܡܢ ܕܠܟ ܘܠܗ ܩܪܐ ܘܢܐܡܪ ܠܟ ܕܗܒ ܕܘܟܬܐ ܠܗܢܐ ܘܬܒܗܬ ܟܕ ܩܐܡ ܐܢܬ ܘܐܚܕ ܐܢܬ ܕܘܟܬܐ ܐܚܪܝܬܐ
wn'th' hw mn dlk wlh qr' wn'mr lk dhb dwkth' lhn' wthbhth kd q'm 'nth w'khd 'nth dwkth' 'khryth'
and he who invited both of you would come and tell you, ‘Make room for this person.’ Then you would begin, with shame, to take the lowest place.

ܐܠܐ ܡܐ ܕܐܙܕܡܢܬ ܙܠ ܐܣܬܡܟ ܠܟ ܒܚܪܬܐ ܕܡܐ ܕܐܬܐ ܗܘ ܕܩܪܟ ܢܐܡܪ ܠܟ ܪܚܡܝ ܐܬܥܠܐ ܠܥܠ ܘܐܣܬܡܟ ܘܬܗܘܐ ܠܟ ܬܫܒܘܚܬܐ ܩܕܡ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܕܣܡܝܟܝܢ ܥܡܟ
'l' m' d'zdmnth zl 'sthmk lk bkhrth' dm' d'th' hw dqrk n'mr lk rkhmy 'thel' lel w'sthmk wthhw' lk thshbwkhth' qdm klhwn dsmykyn emk
But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes, he may tell you, ‘Friend, move up higher.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at the table with you.

ܡܛܠ ܕܟܠ ܕܢܪܝܡ ܢܦܫܗ ܢܬܡܟܟ ܘܟܠ ܕܢܡܟ ܢܦܫܗ ܢܬܬܪܝܡ
mTl dkl dnrym npshh nthmkk wkl dnmk npshh nththrym
For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”

ܐܡܪ ܕܝܢ ܐܦ ܠܗܘ ܕܩܪܝܗܝ ܡܐ ܕܥܒܕ ܐܢܬ ܫܪܘܬܐ ܐܘ ܐܚܫܡܝܬܐ ܠܐ ܬܗܘܐ ܩܪܐ ܪܚܡܝܟ ܐܦܠܐ ܐܚܝܟ ܐܘ ܐܚܝܢܝܟ ܘܠܐ ܫܒܒܝܟ ܥܬܝܪܐ ܕܠܡܐ ܘܐܦ ܗܢܘܢ ܢܩܪܘܢܟ ܘܢܗܘܐ ܠܟ ܦܘܪܥܢܐ ܗܢܐ
'mr dyn 'p lhw dqryhy m' debd 'nth shrwth' 'w 'khshmyth' l' thhw' qr' rkhmyk 'pl' 'khyk 'w 'khynyk wl' shbbyk ethyr' dlm' w'p hnwn nqrwnk wnhw' lk pwren' hn'
He also said to the one who had invited him,
“When you make a dinner or a supper, don’t call your friends, nor your brothers, nor your kinsmen, nor rich neighbors, or perhaps they might also return the favor, and pay you back.

ܐܠܐ ܡܐ ܕܥܒܕ ܐܢܬ ܩܘܒܠܐ ܩܪܝ ܠܡܣܟܢܐ ܣܓܝܦܐ ܚܓܝܣܐ ܣܡܝܐ
'l' m' debd 'nth qwbl' qry lmskn' sgyp' khgys' smy'
But when you make a feast, ask the poor, the maimed, the lame, or the blind;

ܘܛܘܒܝܟ ܕܠܝܬ ܠܗܘܢ ܕܢܦܪܥܘܢܟ ܢܗܘܐ ܓܝܪ ܦܘܪܥܢܟ ܒܩܝܡܐ ܕܙܕܝܩܐ
wTwbyk dlyth lhwn dnprewnk nhw' gyr pwrenk bqym' dzdyq'
and you will be blessed, because they don’t have the resources to repay you. For you will be repaid in the resurrection of the righteous.”

ܟܕ ܫܡܥ ܕܝܢ ܚܕ ܡܢ ܗܢܘܢ ܕܣܡܝܟܝܢ ܗܠܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܛܘܒܘܗܝ ܠܡܢ ܕܢܐܟܘܠ ܠܚܡܐ ܒܡܠܟܘܬܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ
kd shme dyn khd mn hnwn dsmykyn hlyn 'mr lh Twbwhy lmn dn'kwl lkhm' bmlkwthh d'lh'
When one of those who sat at the table with him heard these things, he said to him, “Blessed is he who will feast in God’s Kingdom!”

ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܝܫܘܥ ܓܒܪܐ ܚܕ ܥܒܕ ܐܚܫܡܝܬܐ ܪܒܬܐ ܘܩܪܐ ܠܣܓܝܐܐ
'mr lh yshwe gbr' khd ebd 'khshmyth' rbth' wqr' lsgy''
But he said to him,
“A certain man made a great supper, and he invited many people.

ܘܫܕܪ ܥܒܕܗ ܒܥܕܢܐ ܕܐܚܫܡܝܬܐ ܕܢܐܡܪ ܠܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܩܪܝܢ ܗܐ ܟܠܡܕܡ ܡܛܝܒ ܠܟܘܢ ܬܘ
wshdr ebdh bedn' d'khshmyth' dn'mr l'ylyn dqryn h' klmdm mTyb lkwn thw
He sent out his servant at supper time to tell those who were invited, ‘Come, for everything is ready now.’

ܘܫܪܝܘ ܡܢ ܚܕ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܠܡܫܬܐܠܘ ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܩܕܡܝܐ ܩܪܝܬܐ ܙܒܢܬ ܘܐܠܝܨ ܐܢܐ ܕܐܦܘܩ ܐܚܙܝܗ ܒܥܐ ܐܢܐ ܡܢܟ ܫܒܘܩܝܢܝ ܕܡܫܬܐܠ ܐܢܐ
wshryw mn khd klhwn lmshth'lw 'mr lh qdmy' qryth' zbnth w'lyts 'n' d'pwq 'khzyh be' 'n' mnk shbwqyny dmshth'l 'n'
They all as one began to make excuses.
“The first said to him, ‘I have bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please have me excused.’

ܐܚܪܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܚܡܫܐ ܙܘܓܝܢ ܬܘܪܐ ܙܒܢܬ ܘܐܙܠ ܐܢܐ ܕܐܒܩܐ ܐܢܘܢ ܒܥܐ ܐܢܐ ܡܢܟ ܫܒܘܩܝܢܝ ܕܡܫܬܐܠ ܐܢܐ
'khrn' 'mr khmsh' zwgyn thwr' zbnth w'zl 'n' d'bq' 'nwn be' 'n' mnk shbwqyny dmshth'l 'n'
“Another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I must go try them out. Please have me excused.’

ܘܐܚܪܢܐ ܐܡܪ ܐܢܬܬܐ ܢܣܒܬ ܘܡܛܠ ܗܕܐ ܠܐ ܡܫܟܚ ܐܢܐ ܕܐܬܐ

“Another said, ‘I have married a wife, and therefore I can’t come.’

ܘܐܬܐ ܗܘ ܥܒܕܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܡܪܗ ܗܠܝܢ ܗܝܕܝܢ ܪܓܙ ܡܪܐ ܒܝܬܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܥܒܕܗ ܦܘܩ ܒܥܓܠ ܠܫܘܩܐ ܘܠܒܪܝܬܐ ܕܡܕܝܢܬܐ ܘܐܥܠ ܠܟܐ ܠܡܣܟܢܐ ܘܠܡܟܐܒܐ ܘܠܡܚܓܪܐ ܘܠܥܘܝܪܐ
w'th' hw ebd' w'mr lmrh hlyn hydyn rgz mr' byth' w'mr lebdh pwq begl lshwq' wlbryth' dmdynth' w'el lk' lmskn' wlmk'b' wlmkhgr' wlewyr'
“That servant came, and told his lord these things. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor, maimed, blind, and lame.’

ܘܐܡܪ ܥܒܕܐ ܡܪܝ ܗܘܐ ܐܝܟ ܕܦܩܕܬ ܘܬܘܒ ܐܝܬ ܐܬܪܐ

“The servant said, ‘Lord, it is done as you commanded, and there is still room.’

ܘܐܡܪ ܡܪܐ ܠܥܒܕܗ ܦܘܩ ܠܐܘܪܚܬܐ ܘܠܒܝܬ ܣܝܓܐ ܘܐܠܘܨ ܕܢܥܠܘܢ ܕܢܬܡܠܐ ܒܝܬܝ
w'mr mr' lebdh pwq l'wrkhth' wlbyth syg' w'lwts dnelwn dnthml' bythy
“The lord said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

ܐܡܪ ܐܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܓܝܪ ܕܚܕ ܡܢ ܗܢܘܢ ܐܢܫܐ ܕܩܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܐ ܢܛܥܡܘܢ ܡܢ ܐܚܫܡܝܬܝ
'mr 'n' lkwn gyr dkhd mn hnwn 'nsh' dqryn hww l' nTemwn mn 'khshmythy
For I tell you that none of those men who were invited will taste of my supper.’”

ܘܟܕ ܐܙܠܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܥܡܗ ܟܢܫܐ ܣܓܝܐܐ ܐܬܦܢܝ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ

Now great multitudes were going with him. He turned and said to them,

ܡܢ ܕܐܬܐ ܠܘܬܝ ܘܠܐ ܣܢܐ ܠܐܒܘܗܝ ܘܠܐܡܗ ܘܠܐܚܘܗܝ ܘܠܐܚܘܬܗ ܘܠܐܢܬܬܗ ܘܠܒܢܘܗܝ ܘܐܦ ܠܢܦܫܗ ܬܠܡܝܕܐ ܠܐ ܡܫܟܚ ܕܢܗܘܐ ܠܝ
mn d'th' lwthy wl' sn' l'bwhy wl'mh wl'khwhy wl'khwthh wl'nththh wlbnwhy w'p lnpshh thlmyd' l' mshkkh dnhw' ly
“If anyone comes to me, and doesn’t disregard
his own father, mother, wife, children, brothers, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he can’t be my disciple.

ܘܡܢ ܕܠܐ ܫܩܠ ܨܠܝܒܗ ܘܐܬܐ ܒܬܪܝ ܬܠܡܝܕܐ ܠܐ ܡܫܟܚ ܕܢܗܘܐ ܠܝ
wmn dl' shql tslybh w'th' bthry thlmyd' l' mshkkh dnhw' ly
Whoever doesn’t bear his own cross, and come after me, can’t be my disciple.

ܡܢܘ ܓܝܪ ܡܢܟܘܢ ܕܨܒܐ ܕܢܒܢܐ ܡܓܕܠܐ ܘܠܐ ܠܘܩܕܡ ܝܬܒ ܚܫܒ ܢܦܩܬܗ ܐܢ ܐܝܬ ܠܗ ܠܡܫܠܡܘܬܗ
mnw gyr mnkwn dtsb' dnbn' mgdl' wl' lwqdm ythb khshb npqthh 'n 'yth lh lmshlmwthh
For which of you, desiring to build a tower, doesn’t first sit down and count the cost, to see if he has enough to complete it?

ܕܠܐ ܟܕ ܢܣܝܡ ܫܬܐܣܬܐ ܘܠܐ ܢܫܟܚ ܠܡܫܠܡܘ ܟܠ ܕܚܙܝܢ ܢܗܘܘܢ ܡܒܙܚܝܢ ܒܗ
dl' kd nsym shth'sth' wl' nshkkh lmshlmw kl dkhzyn nhwwn mbzkhyn bh
Or perhaps, when he has laid a foundation, and is not able to finish, everyone who sees begins to mock him,

ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܕܗܢܐ ܓܒܪܐ ܫܪܝ ܠܡܒܢܐ ܘܠܐ ܐܫܟܚ ܠܡܫܠܡܘ
w'mryn dhn' gbr' shry lmbn' wl' 'shkkh lmshlmw
saying, ‘This man began to build, and wasn’t able to finish.’

ܐܘ ܡܢܘ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܙܠ ܠܩܪܒܐ ܠܡܬܟܬܫܘ ܥܡ ܡܠܟܐ ܚܒܪܗ ܘܠܐ ܠܘܩܕܡ ܡܬܪܥܐ ܕܐܢ ܡܫܟܚ ܒܥܣܪܐ ܐܠܦܝܢ ܠܡܐܪܥ ܠܗܘ ܕܐܬܐ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܒܥܣܪܝܢ ܐܠܦܝܢ
'w mnw mlk' d'zl lqrb' lmthkthshw em mlk' khbrh wl' lwqdm mthre' d'n mshkkh besr' 'lpyn lm're lhw d'th' elwhy besryn 'lpyn
Or what king, as he goes to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?

ܘܐܢ ܕܝܢ ܠܐ ܥܕ ܗܘ ܪܚܝܩ ܡܢܗ ܡܫܕܪ ܐܝܙܓܕܐ ܘܒܥܐ ܥܠ ܫܠܡܐ
w'n dyn l' ed hw rkhyq mnh mshdr 'yzgd' wbe' el shlm'
Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an envoy, and asks for conditions of peace.

ܗܟܢܐ ܟܠܢܫ ܡܢܟܘܢ ܕܠܐ ܫܒܩ ܟܠܗ ܩܢܝܢܗ ܠܐ ܡܫܟܚ ܕܢܗܘܐ ܠܝ ܬܠܡܝܕܐ
hkn' klnsh mnkwn dl' shbq klh qnynh l' mshkkh dnhw' ly thlmyd'
So therefore whoever of you who doesn’t renounce all that he has, he can’t be my disciple.

ܫܦܝܪܐ ܗܝ ܡܠܚܐ ܐܢ ܕܝܢ ܐܦ ܡܠܚܐ ܬܦܟܗ ܒܡܢܐ ܬܬܡܠܚ
shpyr' hy mlkh' 'n dyn 'p mlkh' thpkh bmn' ththmlkh
Salt is good, but if the salt becomes flat and tasteless, with what do you season it?
35
ܠܐ ܠܐܪܥܐ ܘܠܐ ܠܙܒܠܐ ܐܙܠܐ ܠܒܪ ܫܕܝܢ ܠܗ ܡܢ ܕܐܝܬ ܠܗ ܐܕܢܐ ܕܢܫܡܥ ܢܫܡܥ
l' l're' wl' lzbl' 'zl' lbr shdyn lh mn d'yth lh 'dn' dnshme nshme
It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile. It is thrown out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
