How the gold has become dim! The most pure gold has changed! The stones of the sanctuary are poured out at the head of every street.

ܒ̈ܢܝ ܨܗܝܘܢ ܝܩܝܪ̈ܐ ܕܡܝܬܪ̣̈ܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܡܢ ܟܐ̈ܦܐ ܛܒ̈ܬܐ̣. ܐ̣ܝܟܢܐ ܐܬܚܫ̣ܒܘ ܐܝܟ ܡܐܢܐ ܕܚܨܦܐ ܥ̇ܒܕ ܐ̈ܝܕܝܐ ܕܦܚܪܐ ܰ

The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how they are esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!

ܓ̈ܠܝ ܐܝܟ ܝܪ̈ܘܪܐ ܬܕܝ̈ܗܝܢ̣ ܘܐܝܢܩ ܓܪ̈ܝܗܝܢ. ܗܘ̣ܬ ܒܪܬ ܥܡܝ ܠܡܚܘܬܐ̣ ܕܠܝܬ ܠܗ̇ ܐܣܝܘܬܐ. ܘܐܝܟ ܢܥܡ̇ܐ ܒܡܕܒܪܐ ܰ
bmdbr' nem' w'yk 'sywth' lh dlyth lmkhwth' emy brth hwth gryhyn w'ynq thdyhyn yrwr' 'yk gly
Even the jackals offer their breast. They nurse their young ones. But the daughter of my people has become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.

ܕܒ̣ܩ ܠܫܢܗ ܕܝܠܘܕܐ ܠܫܡܝ ܚܟܗ ܒܨܗܝܐ. ܛ̈ܠܝܐ ܫܐ̣ܠܘ ܠܚܡܐ̣. ܘܠܝܬ ܕܩܨ̇ܐ ܝܗ̇ܒ ܠܗܘܢ ܰ

The tongue of the nursing child clings to the roof of his mouth for thirst. The young children ask for bread, and no one breaks it for them.

ܗ̇ܢܘܢ ܕܐܟ̇ܠܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܦܘܢ̈ܩܐ̣. ܗܐ ܣܝܡ̣ܝܢ ܒܫ̈ܘܩܐ. ܕܐܬܪܒ̇ܝܘ ܥܠ ܙܚܘܪ̈ܝܬܐ̣. ܗܐ ܕܡܟ̣ܝܢ ܒܩ̈ܩܠܬܐ ܰ
bqqlth' dmkyn h' zkhwryth' el d'thrbyw bshwq' symyn h' pwnq' hww d'klyn hnwn
Those who ate delicacies are desolate in the streets. Those who were brought up in purple embrace dunghills.

ܘܣܓ̣ܝ ܥܘ̣ܠܗ̇ ܕܒܪܬ ܥܡܝ̣ ܡܢ ܚܛܝܬܗ̇ ܕܣܕܘܡ. ܕܐܬܗ̣ܦܟܬ̇ ܡܢ ܫܠܝܐ̣ ܘܠܐ ܠܐ̣ܝ ܒܗ̇ ܐܝ̈ܕܝܐ ܰ
'ydy' bh l'y wl' shly' mn d'thhpkth dsdwm khTythh mn emy dbrth ewlh wsgy
For the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the sin of Sodom, which was overthrown as in a moment. No hands were laid on her.

ܕܟܝܘ ܢܙܝܪ̈ܝܗ̇ ܡܢ ܬܠܓܐ̣. ܘܚܘܪܘ ܡܢ ܚܠܒܐ ܒܡܪ̈ܥܝܬܗܘܢ. ܣܡܩܘ ܓܪ̈ܡܝܗܘܢ ܡܢ ܣܪܕܘܢ ܘܡܢ ܣܦܝܠܐ ܓܘܫܡܗܘܢ ܰ
gwshmhwn spyl' wmn srdwn mn grmyhwn smqw bmreythhwn khlb' mn wkhwrw thlg' mn nzyryh dkyw
Her nobles were purer than snow. They were whiter than milk. They were more ruddy in body than rubies. Their polishing was like sapphire.

ܚܫ̣ܟ ܡܢ ܫܘܚܪ̈ܐ ܚܙܘܗܘܢ̣ ܘܠܐ ܐܬܝܕܥܘ ܒܫ̈ܘܩܐ. ܩܦܘܕ ܡܫܟܗܘܢ ܥܠ ܓܪ̈ܡܝܗܘܢ. ܝܒ̣ܫ̇ ܘܗܘ̣ܐ̣ ܐܝܟ ܩܝܣܐ ܰ
qys' 'yk whw' ybsh grmyhwn el mshkhwn qpwd bshwq' 'thydew wl' khzwhwn shwkhr' mn khshk
Their appearance is blacker than a coal. They are not known in the streets. Their skin clings to their bones. It is withered. It has become like wood.

ܛܒ̈ܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܩ̈ܛܝܠܝ ܚܪܒܐ ܡܢ ܩ̈ܛܝܠܝ ܟܦܢܐ. ܕܕܒ̣ܘ̣ ܐܝܟ ܗ̇ܢܘܢ ܕܡܡ̇ܚܝܢ ܘܫ̣ܕܝܢ ܒܚܩܠܐ ܰ
bkhql' wshdyn dmmkhyn hnwn 'yk ddbw kpn' qTyly mn khrb' qTyly hww Tbyn
Those who are killed with the sword are better than those who are killed with hunger; for these pine away, stricken through, for lack of the fruits of the field.

ܐܝ̈ܕܝ ܢܫ̈ܐ ܡܪ̈ܚܡܢܝܬܐ ܒܫ̇ܠ ܒ̈ܢܝܗܝܢ̣. ܘܗܘ̣ܘ ܠܗܝܢ ܠܡܐܟܘܠܬܐ ܒܬܒܪܗ̇ ܕܒܪܬ ܥܡܝ ܰ

The hands of the pitiful women have boiled their own children. They were their food in the destruction of the daughter of my people.

ܫܡ̇ܠܝ ܡܪܝܐ ܚܡܬܗ: ܘܐܫ̣ܕ ܚܡܬܐ ܕܪܘܓܙܗ. ܘܫܒ̣ܩ ܢܘܪܐ ܒܨܗܝܘܢ̣ ܘܐܟܠ̣ܬ ܫܬ̈ܐܣܝܗ̇ ܰ
shth'syh w'klth btshywn nwr' wshbq drwgzh khmth' w'shd khmthh mry' shmly
Yahweh has accomplished his wrath. He has poured out his fierce anger. He has kindled a fire in Zion, which has devoured its foundations.

ܘܠܐ ܗܝܡܢܘ ܡ̈ܠܟܐ ܕܐܪܥܐ ܘܟܠܗܘܢ ܥܡܘܪ̈ܝܗ̇ ܕܬܒܝܠ. ܕܐܬܐ ܘܥܐ̇ܠ ܒܥܠܕܒܒܐ ܘܐܠܘܨܐ ܒܬܪ̈ܥܝܗ̇ ܕܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܰ
d'wrshlm bthreyh w'lwts' beldbb' we'l d'th' dthbyl emwryh wklhwn d're' mlk' hymnw wl'
The kings of the earth didn’t believe, neither did all the inhabitants of the world, that the adversary and the enemy would enter into the gates of Jerusalem.

ܡܛܠ ܚ̈ܛܗܐ ܕܢܒܝ̈ܝܗ̣̇ ܘܥܘ̣ܠܐ ܕܟܗ̈ܢܝܗ̇. ܕܐܫܕܘ ܒܓܘܗ̇ ܕܡܐ ܕܙܕܝܩ̈ܐ ܰ ܰ
dzdyq' dm' bgwh d'shdw dkhnyh wewl' dnbyyh khTh' mTl
It is because of the sins of her prophets and the iniquities of her priests, that have shed the blood of the just in the middle of her.

ܢܕܘ ܪ̈ܘܪܒܢܝܗ̇ ܒܫ̈ܘܩܝܗ̇ ܘܐܬܦܠܦܠܘ ܒܕܡܐ. ܘܠܐ ܐܫܟ̣ܚܘ ܕܢܩܪܒܘܢ ܠܠܒ̈ܘܫܝܗܘܢ ܰ
llbwshyhwn dnqrbwn 'shkkhw wl' bdm' w'thplplw bshwqyh rwrbnyh ndw
They wander as blind men in the streets. They are polluted with blood, So that men can’t touch their garments.

ܦܪܘܫܘ ܡܢܗܘܢ ܘܛܡ̈ܐܐ ܩܪܘ ܐܢܘܢ. ܥܒܪܘ̇ ܥܒܪܘ ܘܠܐ ܬܬܩܪܒܘܢ ܠܗܘܢ ܡ̣ܛܠ ܕܐܪܓܙܘ̣ ܐܦ ܐܬܛܪܦܘ. ܐܡܪܘ ܒܝܬ ܥܡ̈ܡܐ̣. ܕܬܘܒ̣ ܠܐ ܢܘܣܦܘܢ ܠܡܥܡܪ ܰ
lmemr nwspwn l' dthwb emm' byth 'mrw 'thTrpw 'p d'rgzw mTl lhwn ththqrbwn wl' ebrw ebrw 'nwn qrw wTm'' mnhwn prwshw
“Go away!” they cried to them. “Unclean! Go away! Go away! Don’t touch! When they fled away and wandered, men said among the nations, “They can’t live here any more.”

ܦܪܨܘܦܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܦ̇ܠܓ ܐܢܘܢ. ܘܠܐ ܢܘܣܦ ܠܡܚܪ ܒܗܘܢ. ܒܐ̈ܦܝ ܟܗ̈ܢܐ̣ ܠܐ ܢܣ̣ܒܘ. ܘܥܠ ܣ̈ܒܐ ܠܐ ܪܚ̇ܡܘ ܰ

Yahweh’s anger has scattered them. He will not pay attention to them any more. They didn’t respect the persons of the priests. They didn’t favor the elders.

ܥܕ ܩܝܡ̣ܝܢ̣ܢ ܚܫ̣ܟ ܥܝܢ̈ܝܢ ܡܢ ܥܘܕܪܢܢ. ܣܪܝܩܐܝܬ ܕܩܘ ܕܘܩ̈ܝܢ ܠܘܬ ܥܡܐ ܕܠܐ ܦܪܩ̇ ܰ
prq dl' em' lwth dwqyn dqw sryq'yth ewdrnn mn eynyn khshk qymynn ed
Our eyes still fail, looking in vain for our help. In our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save.

ܨܕܘ ܠܕܕܩܕܩܝܢ ܠܕܡܗ̇ܠܟܝܢ ܒܫܘܩܐ ܰ ܩ̣ܪܒ ܩܨ̇ܢ ܡܠ̣ܘ ܝܘܡ̈ܝܢ. ܡܛܠ ܕܐܬ̣ܐ ܥܕܢܢ
ednn d'th' mTl ywmyn mlw qtsn qrb bshwq' ldmhlkyn lddqdqyn tsdw
They hunt our steps, so that we can’t go in our streets. Our end is near. Our days are fulfilled, for our end has come.

ܩ̈ܠܝܠܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܪ̈ܕܘܦܝܢ ܡܢ ܢܫܪ̈ܝ ܫܡܝܐ. ܥܠ ܛܘܪ̈ܐ̣ ܪܕܦܘܢ. ܘܒܡܕܒܪܐ̣ ܐܬ̇ܟܡܢܘ ܠܢ ܰ

Our pursuers were swifter than the eagles of the sky. They chased us on the mountains. They set an ambush for us in the wilderness.

ܪܘܚܐ ܕܐ̈ܦܝܢ ܡܫܝܚܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܐܬܬܚܕ ܒܓܘܡܨܗܘܢ. ܗ̇ܘ ܕܐܡܪܢ ܕܒܛܠܠܗ ܢܚ̣ܐ ܒܝܬ ܥܡ̈ܡܐ ܰ
emm' byth nkh' dbTllh d'mrn hw bgwmtshwn 'ththkhd dmry' mshykhh d'pyn rwkh'
The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of Yahweh, was taken in their pits; of whom we said, under his shadow we will live among the nations.

ܕܘܨܝ ܘܚܕܝ ܒܪܬ ܐܕ̇ܘܡ ܕܝܬܒܐ ܒܐܪܥܐ ܕܥܘܨ. ܐܦ ܠܟܝ̣ ܢܡ̣ܛܐ ܟܣܐ. ܕܬܕܘܝ̣ܢ ܘܬܬܛܪܦܝܢ ܰ

Rejoice and be glad, daughter of Edom, who dwells in the land of Uz. The cup will pass through to you also. You will be drunken, and will make yourself naked.

ܓܡ̣̇ܪܘ ܚ̈ܛܗܝܟܝ ܒܪܬ ܨܗܝܘܢ. ܬܘܒ̣ ܠܐ ܢܘܣܦ ܠܡܓܠܝܘܬܟܝ. ܐܬܦ̣ܩܕܘ ܚ̈ܘܒܝܟܝ ܒܪܬ ܐܕܘܡ ܐܬܓܠܝܘ ܚ̈ܛܗܝܟܝ

The punishment of your iniquity is accomplished, daughter of Zion. He will no more carry you away into captivity. He will visit your iniquity, daughter of Edom. He will uncover your sins.
