אנא גברא דחזא עניי בחוטרא דרדי ברוגזיה:
brwgzyh drdy bkhwTra enyy dkhza gbra ana
I am the man who has seen affliction by the rod of his wrath.
2
יתי דבר ואוביל חשוכא ולא לאנהרא:
lanhra wla khshwka wawbyl dbr ythy
He has led me and caused me to walk in darkness, and not in light.
3
ברם בי יתוב יגלגל עלי מחתיה כל יומא:
ywma kl mkhthyh ely yglgl ythwb by brm
Surely he turns his hand against me again and again all day long.
4
עתק בסרי ממכתשין ומשכי מן מחתא תבר גרמי:
grmy thbr mkhtha mn wmshky mmkthshyn bsry ethq
He has made my flesh and my skin old. He has broken my bones.
5
בנה עלי כרכומין ואקף קרתא ועקר רישי עממיא ושלהי אנון:
anwn wshlhy emmya ryshy weqr qrtha waqp krkwmyn ely bnh
He has built against me, and surrounded me with bitterness and hardship.

בבית יסורין דחשוכא אותבני כמיתין דאזלין לעלמא אוחרן:
awkhrn lelma dazlyn kmythyn awthbny dkhshwka yswryn bbyth
He has made me dwell in dark places, as those who have been long dead.

סגר בתרי בגין דלא אפוק מן טריקא יקר על רגלי כבלין דנחשא:
dnkhsha kblyn rgly el yqr Tryqa mn apwq dla bgyn bthry sgr
He has walled me about, so that I can’t go out. He has made my chain heavy.

אף ארום אצוח ואצלי אסתתים בית צלותי:
tslwthy byth asththym watsly atswkh arwm ap
Yes, when I cry, and call for help, he shuts out my prayer.

סגר אורחי במרמירין פסילן שבילי סרך:
srk shbyly psyln bmrmyryn awrkhy sgr
He has walled up my ways with cut stone. He has made my paths crooked.
10
דובא מכמן הוא לי אריא דמיטמר בכבישא:
bkbysha dmyTmr arya ly hwa mkmn dwba
He is to me as a bear lying in wait, as a lion in hiding.
11
אורחי סרך ושסעני שויני צדו:
tsdw shwyny wshseny srk awrkhy
He has turned away my path, and pulled me in pieces. He has made me desolate.
12
מתח קשתיה ועתדני היך פלגליסא לגירא:
lgyra plglysa hyk wethdny qshthyh mthkh
He has bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.
13
אעיל בכליתי גירי תיקיה:
thyqyh gyry bklythy aeyl
He has caused the shafts of his quiver to enter into my kidneys.
14
הויתי חוכא לכל פריצי עמי ומזמרן עלי כל יומא:
ywma kl ely wmzmrn emy prytsy lkl khwka hwythy
I have become a derision to all my people, and their song all day long.
15
אשביעני מרירת חיון ארוני גידא:
gyda arwny khywn mryrth ashbyeny
He has filled me with bitterness. He has stuffed me with wormwood.
16
ורצץ בפרידן שיני כנע יתי בקטמא:
bqTma ythy kne shyny bprydn wrtsts
He has also broken my teeth with gravel. He has covered me with ashes.
17
וקצת מלמשאל שלם נפשי אנשיתי טיבותא:
Tybwtha anshythy npshy shlm mlmshal wqtsth
You have removed my soul far away from peace. I forgot prosperity.
18
ואמרית אובד תוקפי וטובא דהויתי אוריך מן קדם יי:
yy qdm mn awryk dhwythy wTwba thwqpy awbd wamryth
I said, “My strength has perished, along with my expectation from Yahweh.”
19
אדכר ענוי נפשי ומה דאמרידו בי סנאי ואשקין יתי גידין ורישי חיון:
khywn wryshy gydyn ythy washqyn snay by damrydw wmh npshy enwy adkr
Remember my affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the bitterness.
20
מדכר תדכר ותצלי עלי נפשי על סיגופא:
sygwpa el npshy ely wthtsly thdkr mdkr
My soul still remembers them, and is bowed down within me.
21
דא נחמתא אתיב על לבי בגין כן אוריך:
awryk kn bgyn lby el athyb nkhmtha da
This I recall to my mind; therefore I have hope.
22
טיבותא דיי ארום לא פסקו ארום לא אתמניעו רחמוהי:
rkhmwhy athmnyew la arwm psqw la arwm dyy Tybwtha
It is because of Yahweh’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his mercies don’t fail.
23
ניסין חדתין מרחיש בצפריא סגיאה היא הימנותך:
hymnwthk hya sgyah btsprya mrkhysh khdthyn nysyn
They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.
24
חולקי יי אמרית נפשי בגין כן אוריך ליה:
lyh awryk kn bgyn npshy amryth yy khwlqy
“Yahweh is my portion,” says my soul. “Therefore I will hope in him.”
25
טב יי לסוברין לפורקניה לנפשא דתבע אולפניה:
awlpnyh dthbe lnpsha lpwrqnyh lswbryn yy Tb
Yahweh is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.

טב לאורכא ולמשתק עד דמטי פורקנא דיי:
dyy pwrqna dmTy ed wlmshthq lawrka Tb
It is good that a man should hope and quietly wait for the salvation of Yahweh.

טב הוא לגברא ארום יאלף נפשיה לסוברא ניר פקודיא בטליותיה:
bTlywthyh pqwdya nyr lswbra npshyh yalp arwm lgbra hwa Tb
It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.

יתיב בלחודוהי וישתוק ויסבול יסורין דאתין עלוהי בגין יחודא דשמא דיי דמשתלחין לאתפרע מיניה על חובא קלילא דחב בעלמא הדין עד כד יחוס עלוהי ויטלינון מניה ויקבל אפי שלים לעלמא דאתי:
dathy lelma shlym apy wyqbl mnyh wyTlynwn elwhy ykhws kd ed hdyn belma dkhb qlyla khwba el mynyh lathpre dmshthlkhyn dyy dshma ykhwda bgyn elwhy dathyn yswryn wysbwl wyshthwq blkhwdwhy ythyb
Let him sit alone and keep silence, because he has laid it on him.

יתן בעפרא פומיה וישתטח קדם רבוניה מאים אית סבר:
sbr ayth maym rbwnyh qdm wyshthTkh pwmyh bepra ythn
Let him put his mouth in the dust, if it is so that there may be hope.
30
יושיט למחיה ליה ליסתא בגין דחלתא דיי יסבע קלנא:
qlna ysbe dyy dkhltha bgyn lystha lyh lmkhyh ywshyT
Let him give his cheek to him who strikes him. Let him be filled full of reproach.
31
ארום לא ישלי יי לעובדוי לעלם לממסרינון בידא דסנאיהון:
dsnayhwn byda lmmsrynwn lelm lewbdwy yy yshly la arwm
For the Lord will not cast off forever.
32
ארום אלהן ברישא יתבר ובתר כן יתוב וירחום לצדיקיא בסגיאות טיבותיה:
Tybwthyh bsgyawth ltsdyqya wyrkhwm ythwb kn wbthr ythbr brysha alhn arwm
For though he causes grief, yet he will have compassion according to the multitude of his loving kindnesses.

ארום מן בגלל דלא עני גבר ית נפשיה ואעדי זחוחה מלביה בגין כן גרם לאסתקפא תבירא בבני אנשא:
ansha bbny thbyra lasthqpa grm kn bgyn mlbyh zkhwkhh waedy npshyh yth gbr eny dla bgll mn arwm
For he does not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men.

למככא ולכבשא תחות רגלוי כל אסירי ארעא:
area asyry kl rglwy thkhwth wlkbsha lmkka
To crush under foot all the prisoners of the earth,
35
למצלי דין דגבר מסכן כל קביל אפי עילאה:
eylah apy qbyl kl mskn dgbr dyn lmtsly
to turn away the right of a man before the face of the Most High,
36
לסרכא אנש מסכן במצותיה אפשר דמן קדם יי לא יתגלי:
ythgly la yy qdm dmn apshr bmtswthyh mskn ansh lsrka
to subvert a man in his cause, the Lord doesn’t approve.
37
מן הוא אינש דאמר והוה בישתא מתעבדא בעלמא אלהן מן בגלל דעבדו מה דלא אתפקדו מן פומא דיי:
dyy pwma mn athpqdw dla mh debdw bgll mn alhn belma mthebda byshtha whwh damr aynsh hwa mn
Who is he who says, and it comes to pass, when the Lord doesn’t command it?

מפי אלהא לא תיפוק בישתא אלהן על ברת קלא רמיזא בגין חטופין דאתמליאת ארעא ובעידן דבעי למגזר טובא בעלמא מן פום קודשא נפקא:
npqa qwdsha pwm mn belma Twba lmgzr dbey wbeydn area dathmlyath khTwpyn bgyn rmyza qla brth el alhn byshtha thypwq la alha mpy
Doesn’t evil and good come out of the mouth of the Most High?

מה ממון ישכח אנש דיחוב על יומי חיוהי גברא רשיעא על חובוהי:
khwbwhy el rshyea gbra khywhy ywmy el dykhwb ansh yshkkh mmwn mh
Why should a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?
40
נבלוש אורחנא ונבקר ונתוב בתיובתא קדם יי:
yy qdm bthywbtha wnthwb wnbqr awrkhna nblwsh
Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to Yahweh.
41
נטול לבבנא בריר ונרמי חטוף וגזילן מן ידנא ונתוב קדם יי אלהנא דשכינתיה בשמי מרומא:
mrwma bshmy dshkynthyh alhna yy qdm wnthwb ydna mn wgzyln khTwp wnrmy bryr lbbna nTwl
Let’s lift up our heart with our hands to God in the heavens.
42
נחנא מרדנא סרבנא ומן בגלל דלא הדרנא לותך אנת לא שבקת:
shbqth la anth lwthk hdrna dla bgll wmn srbna mrdna nkhna
“We have transgressed and have rebelled. You have not pardoned.
43
טללתא עלנא ברגז ורדפתנא בגלותא קטלתא ולא חסתא:
khstha wla qTltha bglwtha wrdpthna brgz elna Tlltha
“You have covered us with anger and pursued us. You have killed. You have not pitied.
44
טללתא שמיא בענני יקרי דילך מן בגלל דלא תעבר לותך צלותנא:
tslwthna lwthk thebr dla bgll mn dylk yqry benny shmya Tlltha
You have covered yourself with a cloud, so that no prayer can pass through.
45
טלטולין ורטושין שויתא יתנא ביני עממיא:
emmya byny ythna shwytha wrTwshyn TlTwlyn
You have made us an off-scouring and refuse in the middle of the peoples.
46
פתחו עלנא פומהון כל בעלי דבבנא למגזר עלנא גזירין בישין:
byshyn gzyryn elna lmgzr dbbna bely kl pwmhwn elna pthkhw
“All our enemies have opened their mouth wide against us.
47
אימתא וזיעא הוה לנא מנהון רתיתא ותבירא:
wthbyra rthytha mnhwn lna hwh wzyea aymtha
Terror and the pit have come on us, devastation and destruction.”
48
היך יבלין דמיא זלגת עיני דמען על תבירא דכנישת עמי:
emy dknyshth thbyra el dmen eyny zlgth dmya yblyn hyk
My eye runs down with streams of water, for the destruction of the daughter of my people.
49
עיני זלגת דמען ולא תשתוק מלמבכי מדלית פאיג עתקי וממלל תנחומין לי:
ly thnkhwmyn wmmll ethqy payg mdlyth mlmbky thshthwq wla dmen zlgth eyny
My eye pours down and doesn’t cease, without any intermission,

כדו דיסתכי ויחזי עולבני יי מן שמיא:
shmya mn yy ewlbny wykhzy dysthky kdw
until Yahweh looks down, and sees from heaven.
51
בכותא דעיני אסתקפת למרע נפשי על חורבן פילכי דעמי ונוול בנתא דירושלם קרתי:
qrthy dyrwshlm bntha wnwwl demy pylky khwrbn el npshy lmre asthqpth deyny bkwtha
My eye affects my soul, because of all the daughters of my city.
52
כמנא כמנו לי היך כצפרא בעלי דבבי על מגן:
mgn el dbby bely ktspra hyk ly kmnw kmna
They have chased me relentlessly like a bird, those who are my enemies without cause.
53
עברו בגובא חיי ורגימו אבנא בי:
by abna wrgymw khyy bgwba ebrw
They have cut off my life in the dungeon, and have cast a stone on me.
54
שטו מיא על רישי אמרית במימרי אתגזרית מן עלמא:
elma mn athgzryth bmymry amryth ryshy el mya shTw
Waters flowed over my head. I said, “I am cut off.”
55
צליתי לשמך יי מן גוב ארעיתא:
areytha gwb mn yy lshmk tslythy
I called on your name, Yahweh, out of the lowest dungeon.
56
צלותי קבילתא בזימנא ההיא וכען לא תכסי אודנך מלקבלא צלותי לארוחותני בגין בעותי:
bewthy bgyn larwkhwthny tslwthy mlqbla awdnk thksy la wken hhya bzymna qbyltha tslwthy
You heard my voice: “Don’t hide your ear from my sighing, and my cry.”

קריבתא מלאכא לשזבותני ביומא דצליתי לך אמרת במימרך לא תדחל:
thdkhl la bmymrk amrth lk dtslythy bywma lshzbwthny mlaka qrybtha
You came near in the day that I called on you. You said, “Don’t be afraid.”
58
נציתא יי לעבדין מצותא לנפשי פריקתא מן ידיהון חיי:
khyy ydyhwn mn pryqtha lnpshy mtswtha lebdyn yy ntsytha
Lord, you have pleaded the causes of my soul. You have redeemed my life.
59
חזיתא יי סרול דסריכו לי דון דיני:
dyny dwn ly dsrykw srwl yy khzytha
Yahweh, you have seen my wrong. Judge my cause.
60
גלי קדמך כל נקמתהון כל מזימתהון עלי:
ely mzymthhwn kl nqmthhwn kl qdmk gly
You have seen all their vengeance and all their plans against me.
61
שמיע קדמך כסופיהון יי כל מזימתהון עלי:
ely mzymthhwn kl yy kswpyhwn qdmk shmye
You have heard their reproach, Yahweh, and all their plans against me,
62
ספות קמין עלי והגיונהון עלי כל יומא:
ywma kl ely whgywnhwn ely qmyn spwth
the lips of those that rose up against me, and their plots against me all day long.
63
מותביהון וזקפתהון אסתכל אנא זמרהון:
zmrhwn ana asthkl wzqpthhwn mwthbyhwn
You see their sitting down and their rising up. I am their song.
64
תתיב להון גמולא בישא יי כעובדי ידיהון:
ydyhwn kewbdy yy bysha gmwla lhwn ththyb
You will pay them back, Yahweh, according to the work of their hands.
65
תתן להון תבירות לבא ושלאהותך שלהי להון:
lhwn shlhy wshlahwthk lba thbyrwth lhwn ththn
You will give them hardness of heart, your curse to them.
