ואמרו ליה אנש אפרים מא פתגמא הדין עבדתא לנא בדיל מה לא קריתא לנא כדאזלתא לאגחא קרבא במדין ודינין עמיה בתקוף:
bthqwp emyh wdynyn bmdyn qrba lagkha kdazltha lna qrytha la mh bdyl lna ebdtha hdyn pthgma ma aprym ansh lyh wamrw
The men of Ephraim said to him, “Why have you treated us this way, that you didn’t call us when you went to fight with Midian?” They rebuked him sharply.

ואמר להון מה עבדית כען כותכון הלא טבין חלשיא דבית אפרים מתקפיא דבית אביעזר:
abyezr dbyth mthqpya aprym dbyth khlshya Tbyn hla kwthkwn ken ebdyth mh lhwn wamr
He said to them, “What have I now done in comparison with you? Isn’t the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer?

בידכון מסר יי ית רברבי מדין ית עורב וית זאב ומה יכלית למעבד כותכון בכן נחת רוחיהון מניה במללותיה פתגמא הדין:
hdyn pthgma bmllwthyh mnyh rwkhyhwn nkhth bkn kwthkwn lmebd yklyth wmh zab wyth ewrb yth mdyn rbrby yth yy msr bydkwn
God has delivered into your hand the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb! What was I able to do in comparison with you?” Then their anger was abated toward him when he had said that.

ואתא גדעון לירדנא עבר הוא ותלת מאה גבריא דעמיה כד משלהן ורדפין:
wrdpyn mshlhn kd demyh gbrya mah wthlth hwa ebr lyrdna gdewn watha
Gideon came to the Jordan and passed over, he and the three hundred men who were with him, faint, yet pursuing.

ואמר לאנשי סכות הבו כען פתא דלחמא לעמא די עמי ארי משלהן אנון ואנא רדיף בתר זבח וצלמנע מלכי מדין:
mdyn mlky wtslmne zbkh bthr rdyp wana anwn mshlhn ary emy dy lema dlkhma ptha ken hbw skwth lanshy wamr
He said to the men of Succoth, “Please give loaves of bread to the people who follow me; for they are faint, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna, the kings of Midian.”

ואמר רברבי סכות הא כאלו זבח וצלמנע כען מסירין בידך ארי נתן לחילך לחמא:
lkhma lkhylk nthn ary bydk msyryn ken wtslmne zbkh kalw ha skwth rbrby wamr
The princes of Succoth said, “Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in your hand, that we should give bread to your army?”

ואמר גדעון בכן כד ימסר יי ית זבח וית צלמנע בידי ואדוש ית בסריכון על כובי מדברא ועל ברקניא:
brqnya wel mdbra kwby el bsrykwn yth wadwsh bydy tslmne wyth zbkh yth yy ymsr kd bkn gdewn wamr
Gideon said, “Therefore when Yahweh has delivered Zebah and Zalmunna into my hand, then I will tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers.”

וסליק מתמן לפנואל ומלל לותהון כדא ואתיבו יתיה אנשי פנואל כמא דאתיבו אנשי סכות:
skwth anshy dathybw kma pnwal anshy ythyh wathybw kda lwthhwn wmll lpnwal mthmn wslyq
He went up there to Penuel, and spoke to them in the same way; and the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered.

ואמר אף לאנשי פנואל למימר כד איתוב בשלם אתרע ית מגדלא הדין:
hdyn mgdla yth athre bshlm aythwb kd lmymr pnwal lanshy ap wamr
He spoke also to the men of Penuel, saying, “When I come again in peace, I will break down this tower.”

וזבח וצלמנע בקרקר ומשריתיהון עמהון כחמשת עסר אלפין כל דאשתארו מכל משרית בני מדנחא ודאתקטלו מאה ועשרין אלפין גברא שליפי חרבא:
khrba shlypy gbra alpyn weshryn mah wdathqTlw mdnkha bny mshryth mkl dashtharw kl alpyn esr kkhmshth emhwn wmshrythyhwn bqrqr wtslmne wzbkh
Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their armies with them, about fifteen thousand men, all who were left of all the army of the children of the east; for there fell one hundred twenty thousand men who drew sword.

וסליק גדעון באורח משרית ערבאי דשרן בשכונין במדברא ממדינחא לנובח ורמתא ומחא ית משריתא ומשריתא שריא לרוחצן:
lrwkhtsn shrya wmshrytha mshrytha yth wmkha wrmtha lnwbkh mmdynkha bmdbra bshkwnyn dshrn erbay mshryth bawrkh gdewn wslyq
Gideon went up by the way of those who lived in tents on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and struck the army; for the army felt secure.

ואפכו זבח וצלמנע ורדף בתריהון ואחד ית תרין מלכי מדין ית זבח וית צלמנע וכל משריתא אזיע:
azye mshrytha wkl tslmne wyth zbkh yth mdyn mlky thryn yth wakhd bthryhwn wrdp wtslmne zbkh wapkw
Zebah and Zalmunna fled and he pursued them. He took the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and confused all the army.

ותב גדעון בר יואש מן קרבא עד לא מעל שמשא:
shmsha mel la ed qrba mn ywash br gdewn wthb
Gideon the son of Joash returned from the battle from the ascent of Heres.

ואחד עולימא מאנשי סכות ושאליה וכתב ליה ית רברבי סכות וית סבהא שבעין ושבעה גוברין:
gwbryn wshbeh shbeyn sbha wyth skwth rbrby yth lyh wkthb wshalyh skwth manshy ewlyma wakhd
He caught a young man of the men of Succoth, and inquired of him; and he described for him the princes of Succoth, and its elders, seventy-seven men.

ואתא לות אנשי סכות ואמר הא זבח וצלמנע דחסדתון יתי למימר הא כאלו זבח וצלמנע כען מסירין בידך ארי נתן לגברך דמשלהן לחמא:
lkhma dmshlhn lgbrk nthn ary bydk msyryn ken wtslmne zbkh kalw ha lmymr ythy dkhsdthwn wtslmne zbkh ha wamr skwth anshy lwth watha
He came to the men of Succoth, and said, “See Zebah and Zalmunna, concerning whom you taunted me, saying, ‘Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in your hand, that we should give bread to your men who are weary?’”

ודבר ית סבי קרתא וית כובי מדברא וית ברקניא ותבר עליהון ית אנשי סכות:
skwth anshy yth elyhwn wthbr brqnya wyth mdbra kwby wyth qrtha sby yth wdbr
He took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and with them he taught the men of Succoth.

וית מגדל פנואל תרע וקטל ית אנשי קרתא:
qrtha anshy yth wqTl thre pnwal mgdl wyth
He broke down the tower of Penuel, and killed the men of the city.
18
ואמר לזבח ולצלמנע היכא גבריא דקטלתון בתבור ואמרו כותך כן אף אינון חד מנהון כחזוא דבני מלכא:
mlka dbny kkhzwa mnhwn khd aynwn ap kn kwthk wamrw bthbwr dqTlthwn gbrya hyka wltslmne lzbkh wamr
Then he said to Zebah and Zalmunna, “What kind of men were they whom you killed at Tabor?” They answered, “They were like you. They all resembled the children of a king.”

ואמר אחי בני אמא אנון קים הוא יי אלו קימתון יתהון לא קטלית יתכון:
ythkwn qTlyth la ythhwn qymthwn alw yy hwa qym anwn ama bny akhy wamr
He said, “They were my brothers, the sons of my mother. As Yahweh lives, if you had saved them alive, I would not kill you.”

ואמר ליתר בוכריה קום קטול יתהון ולא שלף עולימא חרביה ארי דחיל ארי עד כען יניק:
ynyq ken ed ary dkhyl ary khrbyh ewlyma shlp wla ythhwn qTwl qwm bwkryh lythr wamr
He said to Jether his firstborn, “Get up and kill them!” But the youth didn’t draw his sword; for he was afraid, because he was yet a youth.

ואמר זבח וצלמנע קום את ושלט בנא ארי כגברא כן גבורתיה וקם גדעון וקטל ית זבח וית צלמנע ונסיב ית ענקיא די בצוארי גמליהון:
gmlyhwn btswary dy enqya yth wnsyb tslmne wyth zbkh yth wqTl gdewn wqm gbwrthyh kn kgbra ary bna wshlT ath qwm wtslmne zbkh wamr
Then Zebah and Zalmunna said, “You rise and fall on us; for as the man is, so is his strength.” Gideon arose, and killed Zebah and Zalmunna, and took the crescents that were on their camels’ necks.

ואמרו אנש ישראל לגדעון מלוך עלנא אף את אף ברך אף בר ברך ארי פרקתנא מן יד מדינאי:
mdynay yd mn prqthna ary brk br ap brk ap ath ap elna mlwk lgdewn yshral ansh wamrw
Then the men of Israel said to Gideon, “Rule over us, both you, your son, and your son’s son also; for you have saved us out of the hand of Midian.”

ואמר להון גדעון לא אמלוך אנא עליכון ולא ימלוך ברי עליכון יי ימלוך עליכון:
elykwn ymlwk yy elykwn bry ymlwk wla elykwn ana amlwk la gdewn lhwn wamr
Gideon said to them, “I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you. Yahweh shall rule over you.”
24
ואמר להון גדעון שאיל אנא מנכון שאילה והבו לי גבר קדשיה מן בזתא ארי קדשי דדהבא להון ארי ערבאי אינון:
aynwn erbay ary lhwn ddhba qdshy ary bztha mn qdshyh gbr ly whbw shaylh mnkwn ana shayl gdewn lhwn wamr
Gideon said to them, “I do have a request: that you would each give me the earrings of his plunder.” (For they had golden earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.)

ואמרו מתן נתן ופרשו ית כסותא ורמו לתמן גבר קדשיה מן בזתא:
bztha mn qdshyh gbr lthmn wrmw kswtha yth wprshw nthn mthn wamrw
They answered, “We will willingly give them.” They spread a garment, and every man threw the earrings of his plunder into it.

והוה מתקל קדשי דדהבא דשאל אלף ושבע מאה דהבא בר מן סהרניא וכלילא ולבושי ארגונא די על מלכי מדין ובר מן ענקיא די בצורי גמליהון:
gmlyhwn btswry dy enqya mn wbr mdyn mlky el dy argwna wlbwshy wklyla shrnya mn br dhba mah wshbe alp dshal ddhba qdshy mthql whwh
The weight of the golden earrings that he requested was one thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold, in addition to the crescents, and the pendants, and the purple clothing that was on the kings of Midian, and in addition to the chains that were about their camels’ necks.

ועבד יתיה גדעון לאיפודא ואקים יתיה בקרתיה בעפרה וטעו כל ישראל בתרוהי לתמן והוה לגדעון ולביתיה לתקלא:
lthqla wlbythyh lgdewn whwh lthmn bthrwhy yshral kl wTew beprh bqrthyh ythyh waqym laypwda gdewn ythyh webd
Gideon made an ephod out of it, and put it in Ophrah, his city. Then all Israel played the prostitute with it there; and it became a snare to Gideon and to his house.

ואתברו מדינאי קדם בני ישראל ולא אוסיפו לארמא רישיהון ושדוכת ארעא דישראל ארבעין שנין ביומי גדעון:
gdewn bywmy shnyn arbeyn dyshral area wshdwkth ryshyhwn larma awsypw wla yshral bny qdm mdynay wathbrw
So Midian was subdued before the children of Israel, and they lifted up their heads no more. The land had rest forty years in the days of Gideon.

ואזל ירבעל בר יואש ויתיב בביתיה:
bbythyh wythyb ywash br yrbel wazl
Jerubbaal the son of Joash went and lived in his own house.
30
ולגדעון הוו שבעין בנין נפקי ירכיה ארי נשין סגיאין הואה ליה:
lyh hwah sgyayn nshyn ary yrkyh npqy bnyn shbeyn hww wlgdewn
Gideon had seventy sons conceived from his body, for he had many wives.
31
ולחנתיה די בשכם ילידת ליה אף היא בר ושוי ית שמיה אבימלך:
abymlk shmyh yth wshwy br hya ap lyh ylydth bshkm dy wlkhnthyh
His concubine who was in Shechem also bore him a son, and he named him Abimelech.
32
ומית גדעון בר יואש בסיבו טבא ואתקבר בקברא דיואש אבוהי בעפרה דאבוהי דעזר:
dezr dabwhy beprh abwhy dywash bqbra wathqbr Tba bsybw ywash br gdewn wmyth
Gideon the son of Joash died in a good old age, and was buried in the tomb of Joash his father, in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

והוה כד מית גדעון ותבו בני ישראל וטעו בתר בעליא ושויאו להון בעיל קים לטעותא:
lTewtha qym beyl lhwn wshwyaw belya bthr wTew yshral bny wthbw gdewn myth kd whwh
As soon as Gideon was dead, the children of Israel turned again and played the prostitute following the Baals, and made Baal Berith their god.
34
ולא אדכרו בני ישראל ית פולחנא דיי אלההון די שיזיב יתהון מיד כל בעלי דבביהון מסחור סחור:
skhwr mskhwr dbbyhwn bely kl myd ythhwn shyzyb dy alhhwn dyy pwlkhna yth yshral bny adkrw wla
The children of Israel didn’t remember Yahweh their God, who had delivered them out of the hand of all their enemies on every side;
