ܘܩܕܡ ܢܕܘܒܥܠ ܕܗܘܝܘ ܓܕܥܘܢ ܘܟܠܗ ܥܡܐ ܕܥܡܗ ܘܫܪܘ ܥܠ ܥܝܢ ܚܕܪ ܘܡܫܪܝܬܐ ܕܡܕܝܢ ܗܘܬ ܠܗ̇ ܡܢ ܓܪܒܝܐ ܕܓܒܥܬ ܪܡܬܐ ܒܥܘܡܩܐ
bewmq' rmth' dgbeth grby' mn lh hwth dmdyn wmshryth' khdr eyn el wshrw demh em' wklh gdewn dhwyw ndwbel wqdm
Then Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, and all the people who were with him, rose up early and encamped beside the spring of Harod. Midian’s camp was on the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley.

ܘܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܠܓܕܥܘܢ ܣܓܝ ܗܘ ܥܡܐ ܗܢܐ ܕܥܡܟ ܕܐܫܠܡ ܐܢܘܢ ܠܡܕܝ̈ܢܝܐ ܒܐ̈ܝܕܝܟܘܢ ܕܠܐ ܢܫܬܒܗܪ ܐܝܣܪܐܝܠ ܘܢܐܡܪ ܐܝܕܝ ܗܘ ܙܟܝܬܢܝ

Yahweh said to Gideon, “The people who are with you are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hand, lest Israel brag against me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me.’

ܗܫܐ ܩܪܝ ܒܐ̈ܕܢܝ ܥܡܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܡܢ ܕܕܚܝܠ ܘܪܬܝܬ ܢܦܘܫ ܠܗ ܘܢܗܦܘܟ ܡܢ ܛܘܪܐ ܕܓܠܥܕ ܘܗܦܟ ܡܢ ܥܡܐ ܥܣܪ̈ܝܢ ܘܬܪ̈ܝܢ ܐ̈ܠܦܝܢ ܘܥܣܪܐ ܐ̈ܠܦܝܢ ܐܫܬܚܪܘ
'shthkhrw 'lpyn wesr' 'lpyn wthryn esryn em' mn whpk dgled Twr' mn wnhpwk lh npwsh wrthyth ddkhyl mn w'mr em' b'dny qry hsh'
Now therefore proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, ‘Whoever is fearful and trembling, let him return and depart from Mount Gilead.’” So twenty-two thousand of the people returned, and ten thousand remained.

Yahweh said to Gideon, “There are still too many people. Bring them down to the water, and I will test them for you there. It shall be, that those whom I tell you, ‘This shall go with you,’ shall go with you; and whoever I tell you, ‘This shall not go with you,’ shall not go.”

ܘܐܚܬܗ ܠܥܡܐ ܠܡ̈ܝܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܠܓܕܥܘܢ ܟܠ ܕܠܐܥ ܡ̈ܝܐ ܒܠܫܢܗ ܐܝܟ ܕܠܐܥ ܟܠܒܐ ܐܩܝܡ ܐܢܘܢ ܐܝܟ ܚܕܐ ܘܟܠ ܕܒ̇ܪܟ ܥܠ ܒܘܪ̈ܟܘܗܝ ܠܡܫܬܐ ܐܩܝܡܝܗܝ ܐܟܚܕܐ
'kkhd' 'qymyhy lmshth' bwrkwhy el dbrk wkl khd' 'yk 'nwn 'qym klb' dl'e 'yk blshnh my' dl'e kl lgdewn mry' w'mr lmy' lem' w'khthh
So he brought down the people to the water; and Yahweh said to Gideon, “Everyone who laps of the water with his tongue, like a dog laps, you shall set him by himself; likewise everyone who bows down on his knees to drink.”

ܘܗܘܐ ܡܢܝܢܐ ܕܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܠܥܝܢ ܒܐ̈ܝܕܝܗܘܢ ܠܦܘܡܗܘܢ ܬܠܬܡܐܐ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ ܘܟܠܗ ܫܪܟܗ ܕܥܡܐ ܒܪܟܘ ܥܠ ܒܘܪ̈ܟܝܗܘܢ ܠܡܫܬܐ ܡ̈ܝܐ
my' lmshth' bwrkyhwn el brkw dem' shrkh wklh gbryn thlthm'' lpwmhwn b'ydyhwn dleyn d'ylyn mnyn' whw'
The number of those who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was three hundred men; but all the rest of the people bowed down on their knees to drink water.

ܘܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܠܓܕܥܘܢ ܒܗܠܝܢ ܬܠܬܡܐܐ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ ܕܠܥܝܢ ܡ̈ܝܐ ܒܐ̈ܝܕܝܗܘܢ ܠܦܘܡܗܘܢ ܐܦܪܘܩܟܘܢ ܘܐܫܠܡ ܠܡܕܝܢ̈ܝܐ ܒܐ̈ܝܕܝܟܘܢ ܘܟܠܗ ܥܡܐ ܢܐܙܠܘܢ ܐܢܫ ܠܐܬܪܗ
l'thrh 'nsh n'zlwn em' wklh b'ydykwn lmdyny' w'shlm 'prwqkwn lpwmhwn b'ydyhwn my' dleyn gbryn thlthm'' bhlyn lgdewn mry' w'mr
Yahweh said to Gideon, “I will save you by the three hundred men who lapped, and deliver the Midianites into your hand. Let all the other people go, each to his own place.”

ܘܢܣܒܘ ܙܘܕܝ̈ܗܘܢ ܟܠܗ ܥܡܐ ܒܐ̈ܝܕܝܗܘܢ ܘܩܪ̈ܢܬܗܘܢ ܘܠܟܠܗܘܢ ܒܢܝ̈ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܫܪܐ ܐܢܘܢ ܐܢܫ ܠܝܪܬܘܬܗ ܘܠܡܫܟܢܗ ܘܒܬܠܬܡܐܐ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ ܐܬܚܝܠ ܘܡܫܪܝܬܐ ܕܡܕܝܢ ܗܘܬ ܠܗ̇ ܠܬܚܬ ܒܥܘܡܩܐ

So the people took food in their hand, and their trumpets; and he sent all the rest of the men of Israel to their own tents, but retained the three hundred men; and the camp of Midian was beneath him in the valley.

ܘܗܘܐ ܒܠܠܝܐ ܗܘ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܡܪܝܐ ܩܘܡ ܚܘܬ ܠܡܫܪܝܬܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܫܠܡܬܗ̇ ܒܐ̈ܝܕܝܟ
b'ydyk d'shlmthh mTl lmshryth' khwth qwm mry' lh w'mr hw blly' whw'
That same night, Yahweh said to him, “Arise, go down into the camp, for I have delivered it into your hand.

ܘܐܢ ܕܚܠ ܐܢܬ ܠܡܚܬ ܚܘܬ ܐܢܬ ܘܦܐܪܐ ܥܠܝܡܟ ܠܡܫܪܝܬܐ
lmshryth' elymk wp'r' 'nth khwth lmkhth 'nth dkhl w'n
But if you are afraid to go down, go with Purah your servant down to the camp.

ܘܬܫܡܥ ܡܕܡ ܕܡܡܠܠܝܢ ܘܗܝܕܝܢ ܢܬܚ̈ܝܠܢ ܐ̈ܝܕܝܟ ܘܢܚܬ ܠܡܫܪܝܬܐ ܗܘ ܘܦܐܪܐ ܥܠܝܡܗ ܥܠ ܪܝܫ ܚܡܫܝܢ ܕܒܡܫܪܝܬܐ
dbmshryth' khmshyn rysh el elymh wp'r' hw lmshryth' wnkhth 'ydyk nthkhyln whydyn dmmllyn mdm wthshme
You will hear what they say; and afterward your hands will be strengthened to go down into the camp.” Then went he down with Purah his servant to the outermost part of the armed men who were in the camp.

ܘܡܕܝܢ ܘܥܡܠܝܩ ܘܟܠܗܘܢ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܪܩܡ ܢܦܠܘ ܒܥܘܡܩܐ ܐܝܟ ܩܡܨܐ ܣܓܝܐܐ ܘܠܗܘܢ ܘܠܓܡ̈ܠܝܗܘܢ ܠܝܬ ܡ̈ܢܝܢ ܐܝܟ ܚܠܐ ܕܥܠ ܣܦܬܗ ܕܝܡܐ ܣܘܓܐܐ

The Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like locusts for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand which is on the seashore for multitude.

ܘܐܬܐ ܓܕܥܘܢ ܘܚܙܐ ܓܒܪܐ ܡܫܬܥܐ ܠܚܒܪܗ ܚܠܡܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܚܙܝܬ ܒܚܠܡܝ ܟܘܟܐ ܕܠܚܡܐ ܕܣܥܪ̈ܐ ܡܬܗܦܟ ܒܡܫܪܝܬܐ ܕܡܕܝܢ ܘܡܛܝ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܡܫܟܢܐ ܘܗܦܟܗ ܠܥܠ ܘܢܦܠ ܡܫܟܢܐ

When Gideon had come, behold, there was a man telling a dream to his fellow. He said, “Behold, I dreamed a dream; and behold, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the camp of Midian, came to the tent, and struck it so that it fell, and turned it upside down, so that the tent lay flat.”

ܥܢܐ ܚܒܪܗ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܠܐ ܐܝܬܝܗ ܗܕܐ ܐܠܐ ܐܢ ܚܪܒܗ ܕܓܕܥܘܢ ܒܪ ܝܘܐܫ ܓܢܒܪܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܕܐܫܠܡ ܐܠܗܐ ܒܐܝܕܗ ܠܡܫܪܝܬܐ ܕܡܕܝܢ
dmdyn lmshryth' b'ydh 'lh' d'shlm d'ysryl gnbr' yw'sh br dgdewn khrbh 'n 'l' hd' 'ythyh l' lh w'mr khbrh en'
His fellow answered, “This is nothing other than the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel. God has delivered Midian into his hand, with all the army.”

ܘܟܕ ܫܡܥ ܓܕܥܘܢ ܬܫܥܝܬܗ ܕܚܠܡܐ ܘܦܫܪܗ ܣܓܕ ܘܗܦܟ ܠܡܫܪܝܬܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܐܡܪ ܩܘܡܘ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܫܠܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܒܐ̈ܝܕܝܟܘܢ ܠܡܫܪܝܬܐ ܕܡܕܝܢ
dmdyn lmshryth' b'ydykwn mry' d'shlm mTl qwmw w'mr d'ysryl lmshryth' whpk sgd wpshrh dkhlm' thsheythh gdewn shme wkd
It was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream and its interpretation, that he worshiped. Then he returned into the camp of Israel and said, “Arise, for Yahweh has delivered the army of Midian into your hand!”

ܘܦܠܓ ܬܠܬܡܐܐ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ ܠܬܠܬܐ ܪ̈ܫܝܢ ܘܐܘܚܕ ܩܪ̈ܢܬܐ ܒܐ̈ܝܕܝܗܘܢ ܕܟܘܠܗܘܢ ܘܩ̈ܘܠܐ ܣܪ̈ܝܩܬܐ ܘܠܡܦܐ̈ܕܐ ܒܓܘ ܩܘ̈ܠܐ
qwl' bgw wlmp'd' sryqth' wqwl' dkwlhwn b'ydyhwn qrnth' w'wkhd rshyn lthlth' gbryn thlthm'' wplg
He divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put into the hands of all of them trumpets and empty pitchers, with torches within the pitchers.

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܠܝ ܚܙܘ ܘܗܟܢܐ ܥܒܕܘ ܗܐ ܥܐܠ ܐܢܐ ܒܓܘ ܡܫܪܝܬܐ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܕܥܒܕ ܐܢܐ ܗܟܢܐ ܥܒܕܘ
ebdw hkn' 'n' debd 'ykn' mshryth' bgw 'n' e'l h' ebdw whkn' khzw ly lhwn w'mr
He said to them, “Watch me, and do likewise. Behold, when I come to the outermost part of the camp, it shall be that, as I do, so you shall do.

ܘܩܪܐ ܐܢܐ ܒܫܝܦܘܪܐ ܐܢܐ ܘܟܠܗ ܥܡܐ ܕܥܡܝ ܘܩܪܘ ܐܦ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܒܫܝܦܘܪܐ ܒܚܕܪ̈ܝ ܟܠܗ̇ ܡܫܪܝܬܐ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܚܪܒܐ ܠܡܪܝܐ ܘܠܓܕܥܘܢ
wlgdewn lmry' khrb' w'mrw mshryth' klh bkhdry bshypwr' 'nthwn 'p wqrw demy em' wklh 'n' bshypwr' 'n' wqr'
When I blow the trumpet, I and all who are with me, then blow the trumpets also on every side of all the camp, and shout, ‘For Yahweh and for Gideon!’”

ܘܥܠ ܓܕܥܘܢ ܘܡܐܐ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ ܕܥܡܗ ܒܪܝܫ ܡܫܪܝܬܐ ܒܡܛܪܬܐ ܡܨܥܝܬܐ ܘܡܩܡܘ ܐܩܝܡ ܠܢܛܘܪ̈ܐ
lnTwr' 'qym wmqmw mtseyth' bmTrth' mshryth' brysh demh gbryn wm'' gdewn wel
So Gideon and the hundred men who were with him came to the outermost part of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch, when they had but newly set the watch. Then they blew the trumpets and broke in pieces the pitchers that were in their hands.

ܘܩܪܘ ܬܠܬܡܐܐ ܪ̈ܫܝܢ ܒܩܪ̈ܢܬܐ ܘܬܒܪܘ ܩ̈ܘܠܐ ܘܐܚܕܘ ܒܣ̈ܡܠܝܗܘܢ ܠܡܦܐ̈ܕܐ ܘܒܝܡܝ̈ܢܝܗܘܢ ܩܪ̈ܢܬܐ ܕܢܩܪܘܢ ܘܩܪܘ ܚܪܒܐ ܠܡܪܝܐ ܘܠܓܕܥܘܢ

The three companies blew the trumpets, broke the pitchers, and held the torches in their left hands and the trumpets in their right hands with which to blow; and they shouted, “The sword of Yahweh and of Gideon!”

ܘܩܡܘ ܐܢܫ ܒܕܘܟܬܗ ܚܕܪ̈ܝ ܡܫܪܝܬܐ ܘܪܗܛܬ ܟܘܠܗ̇ ܡܫܪܝܬܐ ܘܝܒܒܘ ܘܥܪܩܘ

They each stood in his place around the camp, and all the army ran; and they shouted, and put them to flight.

ܘܩܪ̈ܝ ܬܠܬܡܐܐ ܩܪ̈ܢܢ ܘܣܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܚܪܒܗ ܕܓܒܪܐ ܒܚܒܪܗ ܒܟܘܠܗ̇ ܡܫܪܝܬܐ ܘܥܪܩܬ ܟܘܠܗ̇ ܡܫܪܝܬܐ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܒܝܬ ܫܒ̈ܛܐ ܘܠܨܕܕܬ ܘܥܕܡܐ ܠܣܦܬܐ ܕܐܒܠ ܡܚܘܠܐ ܕܥܠ ܝܛܒܬ

They blew the three hundred trumpets, and Yahweh set every man’s sword against his fellow and against all the army; and the army fled as far as Beth Shittah toward Zererah, as far as the border of Abel Meholah, by Tabbath.

ܘܩܥܘ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܡܢ ܢܦܬܠܝ ܘܡܢ ܐܫܝܪ ܘܡܢ ܟܠܗ ܡܢܫܐ ܘܪܕܦܘ ܒܬܪ ܡܕܝܢ
mdyn bthr wrdpw mnsh' klh wmn 'shyr wmn npthly mn 'ysryl bny wqew
The men of Israel were gathered together out of Naphtali, out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, and pursued Midian.

ܘܐ̈ܝܙܓܕܐ ܫܕܪ ܓܕܥܘܢ ܒܟܠܗ ܛܘܪܐ ܕܐܦܪܝܡ ܘܐܡܪ ܚܘܬܘ ܠܐܘܪܥܐ ܕܡܕܝܢ ܘܐܚܘܕܘ ܡ̈ܝܐ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܒܝܬ ܒܪܐ ܕܥܠ ܓܢܒ ܝܘܪܕܢܢ ܘܩܥܘ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܕܒܝܬ ܐܦܪܝܡ ܘܐܚܕܘ ܡ̈ܝܐ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܒܝܬ ܒܪܐ ܕܝܘܪܕܢܢ

Gideon sent messengers throughout all the hill country of Ephraim, saying, “Come down against Midian and take the waters before them as far as Beth Barah, even the Jordan!” So all the men of Ephraim were gathered together and took the waters as far as Beth Barah, even the Jordan.

ܘܐܚܕܘ ܠܬܪ̈ܝܢ ܪ̈ܘܪܒܢܐ ܕܡܕܝܢ ܠܥܘܪܝܒ ܘܠܙܝܒ ܘܩܛܠܘܗܝ ܠܥܘܪܝܒ ܒܨܘܪ ܘܠܙܝܒ ܩܛܠܘ ܒܝܬ ܩܒܪܒ ܘܪܕܦܘ ܠܡܕܝܢ ܘܠܪ̈ܫܝܗܘܢ ܕܥܘܪܝܒ ܘܕܙܝܒ ܐܝܬܝܘ ܠܓܕܥܘܢ ܠܥܒܪܐ ܕܝܘܪܕܢܢ
dywrdnn lebr' lgdewn 'ythyw wdzyb dewryb wlrshyhwn lmdyn wrdpw qbrb byth qTlw wlzyb btswr lewryb wqTlwhy wlzyb lewryb dmdyn rwrbn' lthryn w'khdw
They took the two princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb. They killed Oreb at Oreb’s rock, and Zeeb they killed at Zeeb’s wine press, as they pursued Midian. Then they brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon beyond the Jordan.
