25 verses
1
ואנש ישראל קים במצפיא למימר אנש מננא לא יתן ברתיה לדבית בנימין לאתו:
lathw bnymyn ldbyth brthyh ythn la mnna ansh lmymr bmtspya qym yshral wansh
Now the men of Israel had sworn in Mizpah, saying, “None of us will give his daughter to Benjamin as a wife.”

ואתא עמא לבית אל ויתיבו תמן עד רמשא קדם יי וארימו קלהון ובכו בכי סגיא:
sgya bky wbkw qlhwn warymw yy qdm rmsha ed thmn wythybw al lbyth ema watha
The people came to Bethel and sat there until evening before God, and lifted up their voices, and wept severely.

ואמרו למא יי אלהא דישראל הות דא בישראל למשגי יומא דין מישראל שבטא חד:
khd shbTa myshral dyn ywma lmshgy byshral da hwth dyshral alha yy lma wamrw
They said, “Yahweh, the God of Israel, why has this happened in Israel, that there should be one tribe lacking in Israel today?”

והוה מיומא דבתרוהי ואקדימו עמא ובנו תמן מדבחא ואסיקו עלון ונכסת קודשין:
qwdshyn wnksth elwn wasyqw mdbkha thmn wbnw ema waqdymw dbthrwhy mywma whwh
On the next day, the people rose early and built an altar there, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings.

ואמרו בני ישראל מן דלא סליק בקהלא מכל שבטיא דישראל לקדם יי ארי שבועתא רבתא הות לדלא סליק לקדם יי למצפיא למימר אתקטלא יתקטיל:
ythqTyl athqTla lmymr lmtspya yy lqdm slyq ldla hwth rbtha shbwetha ary yy lqdm dyshral shbTya mkl bqhla slyq dla mn yshral bny wamrw
The children of Israel said, “Who is there among all the tribes of Israel who didn’t come up in the assembly to Yahweh?” For they had made a great oath concerning him who didn’t come up to Yahweh to Mizpah, saying, “He shall surely be put to death.”

ואתנחמו בני ישראל על דבית בנימין אחוהון ואמרו אתמנע יומא דין שבטא חד מישראל:
myshral khd shbTa dyn ywma athmne wamrw akhwhwn bnymyn dbyth el yshral bny wathnkhmw
The children of Israel grieved for Benjamin their brother, and said, “There is one tribe cut off from Israel today.

מה נעביד להון לדאשתארו לנשין ואנחנא קימנא במימרא דיי בדיל דלא למתן להון מבנתנא לנשין:
lnshyn mbnthna lhwn lmthn dla bdyl dyy bmymra qymna wankhna lnshyn ldashtharw lhwn nebyd mh
How shall we provide wives for those who remain, since we have sworn by Yahweh that we will not give them of our daughters to wives?”

ואמרו מן חד משבטיא דישראל דלא סליק לקדם יי למצפיא והא לא אתא אנש למשריתא מיבש גלעד לקהלא:
lqhla gled mybsh lmshrytha ansh atha la wha lmtspya yy lqdm slyq dla dyshral mshbTya khd mn wamrw
They said, “What one is there of the tribes of Israel who didn’t come up to Yahweh to Mizpah?” Behold, no one came from Jabesh Gilead to the camp to the assembly.

ואתמניאו עמא והא לית תמן אנש מישבי יבש גלעד:
gled ybsh myshby ansh thmn lyth wha ema wathmnyaw
For when the people were counted, behold, there were none of the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead there.

ושלחו תמן כנשתא תרי עסר אלפין גברא מזרזי חילא ופקידו יתהון למימר אזילו ותמחון ית יתבי יבש גלעד לפתגם דחרב ונשיא וטפלא:
wTpla wnshya dkhrb lpthgm gled ybsh ythby yth wthmkhwn azylw lmymr ythhwn wpqydw khyla mzrzy gbra alpyn esr thry knshtha thmn wshlkhw
The congregation sent twelve thousand of the most valiant men there, and commanded them, saying, “Go and strike the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the little ones.

ודין פתגמא די תעבדון כל דכורא וכל אתתא דידעת משכבי דכורא תגמרון:
thgmrwn dkwra mshkby dydeth aththa wkl dkwra kl thebdwn dy pthgma wdyn
This is the thing that you shall do: you shall utterly destroy every male, and every woman who has lain with a man.”

ואשכחו מיתבי יבש גלעד ארבע מאה עולימן בתולן דלא ידעא גבר משכבי דכורא ואיתיאו יתהון למשריתא לשילו די בארעא דכנען:
dknen barea dy lshylw lmshrytha ythhwn waythyaw dkwra mshkby gbr ydea dla bthwln ewlymn mah arbe gled ybsh mythby washkkhw
They found among the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead four hundred young virgins who had not known man by lying with him; and they brought them to the camp to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.

ושלחו כל כנשתא ומלילו עם בני בנימין די בכיף רמון וקרו להון מלין דשלם:
dshlm mlyn lhwn wqrw rmwn bkyp dy bnymyn bny em wmlylw knshtha kl wshlkhw
The whole congregation sent and spoke to the children of Benjamin who were in the rock of Rimmon, and proclaimed peace to them.

ותבו בני בנימין בעידנא ההיא ויהבו להון נשין דקימו מנשי יבש גלעד ולא ספיקו להון כן:
kn lhwn spyqw wla gled ybsh mnshy dqymw nshyn lhwn wyhbw hhya beydna bnymyn bny wthbw
Benjamin returned at that time; and they gave them the women whom they had saved alive of the women of Jabesh Gilead. There still weren’t enough for them.

ועמא אתנחמו על דבית בנימן ארי עבד יי תרעתא בשבטיא דישראל:
dyshral bshbTya thretha yy ebd ary bnymn dbyth el athnkhmw wema
The people grieved for Benjamin, because Yahweh had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.
16
ואמרו סבי כנשתא מה נעבד לדאשתארו לנשין ארי פסקת מדבית בנימן אתתא:
aththa bnymn mdbyth psqth ary lnshyn ldashtharw nebd mh knshtha sby wamrw
Then the elders of the congregation said, “How shall we provide wives for those who remain, since the women are destroyed out of Benjamin?”

ואמרו ירותת שזיבתא לבני בנימן ולא יתמחי שבטא מישראל:
myshral shbTa ythmkhy wla bnymn lbny shzybtha yrwthth wamrw
They said, “There must be an inheritance for those who are escaped of Benjamin, that a tribe not be blotted out from Israel.

ואנחנא לא ניכול למתן להון נשין מבנתנא ארי קיימו בני ישראל למימר ליט די יתן אתתא לדבית בנימין:
bnymyn ldbyth aththa ythn dy lyT lmymr yshral bny qyymw ary mbnthna nshyn lhwn lmthn nykwl la wankhna
However, we may not give them wives of our daughters, for the children of Israel had sworn, saying, ‘Cursed is he who gives a wife to Benjamin.’”

ואמרו הא חגא קדם יי בשלו מזמן מועד למועד די מציפונא לבית אל מדנח שמשא לכבשא דסליק מבית אל לשכם ומדרומא ללבונתא:
llbwntha wmdrwma lshkm al mbyth dslyq lkbsha shmsha mdnkh al lbyth mtsypwna dy lmwed mwed mzmn bshlw yy qdm khga ha wamrw
They said, “Behold, there is a feast of Yahweh from year to year in Shiloh, which is on the north of Bethel, on the east side of the highway that goes up from Bethel to Shechem, and on the south of Lebonah.”

ופקידו ית בני בנימין למימר אזילו ותכמנון בכרמיא:
bkrmya wthkmnwn azylw lmymr bnymyn bny yth wpqydw
They commanded the children of Benjamin, saying, “Go and lie in wait in the vineyards,

ותחזון והא אם יפקון בנת שילו למיחג בחנגיא ותפקון מן כרמיא ותחטפון לכון גבר אתתיה מבנת שילו ותהכון לארעא שבטא דבנימן:
dbnymn shbTa larea wthhkwn shylw mbnth aththyh gbr lkwn wthkhTpwn krmya mn wthpqwn bkhngya lmykhg shylw bnth ypqwn am wha wthkhzwn
and see, and behold, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in the dances, then come out of the vineyards, and each man catch his wife of the daughters of Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin.

ויהי ארי ייתון אבהתהון או אחיהון למידן קדמנא ונימר להון חנינונון להון ארי לא ספיקנא למתן גבר אתתיה בקרבא ארי לא אתון יהבין להון כעידן פון תחובון:
thkhwbwn pwn keydn lhwn yhbyn athwn la ary bqrba aththyh gbr lmthn spyqna la ary lhwn khnynwnwn lhwn wnymr qdmna lmydn akhyhwn aw abhthhwn yythwn ary wyhy
It shall be, when their fathers or their brothers come to complain to us, that we will say to them, ‘Grant them graciously to us, because we didn’t take for each man his wife in battle, neither did you give them to them; otherwise you would now be guilty.’”

ועבדו כן בני בנימן ונסיבו נשין למניניהון מן חנגיא די אנסו ואזלו ותבו לאחסנתהון ובנו ית קרויא ויתיבו בהון:
bhwn wythybw qrwya yth wbnw lakhsnthhwn wthbw wazlw answ dy khngya mn lmnynyhwn nshyn wnsybw bnymn bny kn webdw
The children of Benjamin did so, and took wives for themselves according to their number, of those who danced, whom they carried off. They went and returned to their inheritance, built the cities, and lived in them.
24
והליכו מתמן בני ישראל בעידנא ההיא גבר לשבטיה ולזרעיתיה ונפקו מתמן גבר לאחסנתיה:
lakhsnthyh gbr mthmn wnpqw wlzreythyh lshbTyh gbr hhya beydna yshral bny mthmn whlykw
The children of Israel departed from there at that time, every man to his tribe and to his family, and they each went out from there to his own inheritance.
