ונפקו כל בני ישראל ואתכנישת כנשתא כגברא חד למדן ועד באר שבע וארעא גלעד לקדם יי למצפיא:
lmtspya yy lqdm gled warea shbe bar wed lmdn khd kgbra knshtha wathknyshth yshral bny kl wnpqw
Then all the children of Israel went out, and the congregation was assembled as one man, from Dan even to Beersheba, with the land of Gilead, to Yahweh at Mizpah.

ואתעתדו רישי כל עמא כל שבטיא דישראל בקהל עמא דיי ארבע מאה אלפין גבר רגלי שלפי סיפא:
sypa shlpy rgly gbr alpyn mah arbe dyy ema bqhl dyshral shbTya kl ema kl ryshy wathethdw
The chiefs of all the people, even of all the tribes of Israel, presented themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen who drew sword.

ושמעו בני בנימין ארי סליקו בני ישראל למצפיא ואמרו בני ישראל מלילו איכדין הות בישתא הדא:
hda byshtha hwth aykdyn mlylw yshral bny wamrw lmtspya yshral bny slyqw ary bnymyn bny wshmew
(Now the children of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel had gone up to Mizpah.) The children of Israel said, “Tell us, how did this wickedness happen?”

ואתיב גברא לואה בעלא דאתתא קטלתא ואמר לגבעתא די לשבטא בנימין עלית אנא ולחינתי למבת:
lmbth wlkhynthy ana elyth bnymyn lshbTa dy lgbetha wamr qTltha daththa bela lwah gbra wathyb
The Levite, the husband of the woman who was murdered, answered, “I came into Gibeah that belongs to Benjamin, I and my concubine, to spend the night.

וקמו עלי יתבי גבעתא ואקיפו עלי ית ביתא בליליא עלי חשיבו למקטל וית לחינתי עניוהא ומיתת:
wmythth enywha lkhynthy wyth lmqTl khshybw ely blylya bytha yth ely waqypw gbetha ythby ely wqmw
The men of Gibeah rose against me, and surrounded the house by night. They intended to kill me and they raped my concubine, and she is dead.

ואחדית בלחינתי והדמיתה ושלחתה בכל תחום אחסנת ארעא דישראל ארי עבדו עיצת חטאין ודלא כשר בישראל:
byshral kshr wdla khTayn eytsth ebdw ary dyshral area akhsnth thkhwm bkl wshlkhthh whdmythh blkhynthy wakhdyth
I took my concubine and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Israel; for they have committed lewdness and folly in Israel.

הא כולכון בני ישראל הבו לכון פתגם ועצה הלכא:
hlka wetsh pthgm lkwn hbw yshral bny kwlkwn ha
Behold, you children of Israel, all of you, give here your advice and counsel.”
8
וקם כל עמא כגברא חד למימר לא ניזיל גבר למשכניה ולא נזור גבר לביתיה:
lbythyh gbr nzwr wla lmshknyh gbr nyzyl la lmymr khd kgbra ema kl wqm
All the people arose as one man, saying, “None of us will go to his tent, neither will any of us turn to his house.

וכען דין פתגם דנעביד לגבעתא נתמני עלה בעדבא:
bedba elh nthmny lgbetha dnebyd pthgm dyn wken
But now this is the thing which we will do to Gibeah: we will go up against it by lot;
10
ונדבר עשרא גברין למאה לכל שבטיא דישראל ומאה לאלפא ואלפא לרבותא למיסב זודין לעמא למעבד לאיתיותהון לגבעתא דבית בנימין ככל קלנא דאתעביד בישראל:
byshral dathebyd qlna kkl bnymyn dbyth lgbetha laythywthhwn lmebd lema zwdyn lmysb lrbwtha walpa lalpa wmah dyshral shbTya lkl lmah gbryn eshra wndbr
and we will take ten men of one hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and one hundred of one thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand to get food for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the folly that the men of Gibeah have done in Israel.”

ואתכניש כל אנש ישראל לקרתא כגברא חד שון:
shwn khd kgbra lqrtha yshral ansh kl wathknysh
So all the men of Israel were gathered against the city, knit together as one man.
12
ושלחו שבטיא דישראל גברין בכל שבטא דבנימין למימר מה בישתא הדא דהות בכון:
bkwn dhwth hda byshtha mh lmymr dbnymyn shbTa bkl gbryn dyshral shbTya wshlkhw
The tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, “What wickedness is this that has happened among you?

וכען איתו ית גבריא בני רשעא די בגבעתא ונקטלינון ונפלי עבדי בישתא מישראל ולא אבו בני בנימין לקבלא למימר אחוהון בני ישראל:
yshral bny akhwhwn lmymr lqbla bnymyn bny abw wla myshral byshtha ebdy wnply wnqTlynwn bgbetha dy rshea bny gbrya yth aythw wken
Now therefore deliver up the men, the wicked fellows who are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death and put away evil from Israel.” But Benjamin would not listen to the voice of their brothers, the children of Israel.

ואתכנישו בני בנימין מן קרויא לגבעתא למפק לאגחא קרבא עם בני ישראל:
yshral bny em qrba lagkha lmpq lgbetha qrwya mn bnymyn bny wathknyshw
The children of Benjamin gathered themselves together out of the cities to Gibeah, to go out to battle against the children of Israel.

ואתמניאו בני בנימין ביומא ההוא מן קרויא עסרין ושיתא אלפין גברא שלפי סיפא בר מיתבי גבעתא אתמניאו שבע מאה גבר עולים:
ewlym gbr mah shbe athmnyaw gbetha mythby br sypa shlpy gbra alpyn wshytha esryn qrwya mn hhwa bywma bnymyn bny wathmnyaw
The children of Benjamin were counted on that day out of the cities twenty-six thousand men who drew the sword, in addition to the inhabitants of Gibeah, who were counted seven hundred chosen men.

מכל עמא הדין שבע מאה גבר עולים גברא גמיד בידיה דימינא כל אלין דשדן אבנא בקלעא ומרמן בבינת שערא ולא משנן:
mshnn wla shera bbynth wmrmn bqlea abna dshdn alyn kl dymyna bydyh gmyd gbra ewlym gbr mah shbe hdyn ema mkl
Among all these soldiers there were seven hundred chosen men who were left-handed. Every one of them could sling a stone at a hair and not miss.

ואנש ישראל אתמניאו בר מדבית בנימין ארבע מאה אלפין גברא שלפי סיפא כל אלין גברי עבדי קרבא:
qrba ebdy gbry alyn kl sypa shlpy gbra alpyn mah arbe bnymyn mdbyth br athmnyaw yshral wansh
The men of Israel, besides Benjamin, were counted four hundred thousand men who drew sword. All these were men of war.

וקמו וסליקו לבית אל ושאילו במימרא דיי ואמרו בני ישראל מן יסק לנא בקדמיתא לאגחא קרבא עם בני בנימין ואמר יי יהודה בקדמיתא:
bqdmytha yhwdh yy wamr bnymyn bny em qrba lagkha bqdmytha lna ysq mn yshral bny wamrw dyy bmymra wshaylw al lbyth wslyqw wqmw
The children of Israel arose, went up to Bethel, and asked counsel of God. They asked, “Who shall go up for us first to battle against the children of Benjamin?” Yahweh said, “Judah first.”

וקמו בני ישראל בצפרא ושרו על גבעתא:
gbetha el wshrw btspra yshral bny wqmw
The children of Israel rose up in the morning and encamped against Gibeah.
20
ונפק אנש ישראל לאגחא קרבא עם דבית בנימין וסדרו עמהון אנש ישראל קרבא על גבעתא:
gbetha el qrba yshral ansh emhwn wsdrw bnymyn dbyth em qrba lagkha yshral ansh wnpq
The men of Israel went out to battle against Benjamin; and the men of Israel set the battle in array against them at Gibeah.
21
ונפקו בני בנימין מן גבעתא וחבילו בישראל ביומא ההוא עסרין ותרין אלפין גברא קטילין רמן לארעא:
larea rmn qTylyn gbra alpyn wthryn esryn hhwa bywma byshral wkhbylw gbetha mn bnymyn bny wnpqw
The children of Benjamin came out of Gibeah, and on that day destroyed twenty-two thousand of the Israelite men down to the ground.
22
ואתקף עמא אנש ישראל ואוסיפו לסדרא קרבא באתרא דסדרו תמן ביומא קדמאה:
qdmah bywma thmn dsdrw bathra qrba lsdra wawsypw yshral ansh ema wathqp
The people, the men of Israel, encouraged themselves, and set the battle again in array in the place where they set themselves in array the first day.
23
וסליקו בני ישראל ובכו קדם יי עד רמשא ושאילו במימרא דיי למימר האוסיף למקרב לאגחא קרבא עם בני בנימין אחי ואמר יי סקו עליהון:
elyhwn sqw yy wamr akhy bnymyn bny em qrba lagkha lmqrb hawsyp lmymr dyy bmymra wshaylw rmsha ed yy qdm wbkw yshral bny wslyqw
The children of Israel went up and wept before Yahweh until evening; and they asked of Yahweh, saying, “Shall I again draw near to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother?” Yahweh said, “Go up against him.”
24
וקריבו בני ישראל לות בני בנימין ביומא תנינא:
thnyna bywma bnymyn bny lwth yshral bny wqrybw
The children of Israel came near against the children of Benjamin the second day.
25
ונפק בנימין לקדמותהון מן גבעתא ביומא תנינא וחבילו בבני ישראל עוד תמנת עסר אלפין גברא קטילין רמן לארעא כל אלין שלפי סיפא:
sypa shlpy alyn kl larea rmn qTylyn gbra alpyn esr thmnth ewd yshral bbny wkhbylw thnyna bywma gbetha mn lqdmwthhwn bnymyn wnpq
Benjamin went out against them out of Gibeah the second day, and destroyed down to the ground of the children of Israel again eighteen thousand men. All these drew the sword.
26
וסליקו כל בני ישראל וכל עמא ואתו לבית אל ובכו ויתיבו תמן קדם יי וצמו ביומא ההוא עד רמשא ואסיקו עלון ונכסת קודשין קדם יי:
yy qdm qwdshyn wnksth elwn wasyqw rmsha ed hhwa bywma wtsmw yy qdm thmn wythybw wbkw al lbyth wathw ema wkl yshral bny kl wslyqw
Then all the children of Israel and all the people went up, and came to Bethel, and wept, and sat there before Yahweh, and fasted that day until evening; then they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before Yahweh.
27
ושאילו בני ישראל במימרא דיי ותמן ארון קימא דיי ביומיא האנון:
hanwn bywmya dyy qyma arwn wthmn dyy bmymra yshral bny wshaylw
The children of Israel asked Yahweh (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,
28
ופינחס בר אלעזר בר אהרן קאים קדמוהי ביומיא האנון למימר האוסף עוד למפק לאגחא קרבא עם בני בנימין אחי אם אתמנע ואמר יי סקו ארי מחר אמסרינון בידך:
bydk amsrynwn mkhr ary sqw yy wamr athmne am akhy bnymyn bny em qrba lagkha lmpq ewd hawsp lmymr hanwn bywmya qdmwhy qaym ahrn br alezr br wpynkhs
and Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days), saying, “Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease?” Yahweh said, “Go up; for tomorrow I will deliver him into your hand.”
29
ושוי ישראל כמנין על גבעתא סחור סחור:
skhwr skhwr gbetha el kmnyn yshral wshwy
Israel set ambushes all around Gibeah.
30
וסליקו בני ישראל לות בני בנימין ביומא תליתאה וסדרו קרבא על גבעתא כזמן בזמן:
bzmn kzmn gbetha el qrba wsdrw thlythah bywma bnymyn bny lwth yshral bny wslyqw
The children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and set themselves in array against Gibeah, as at other times.
31
ונפקו בני בנימין לקדמות עמא אתנגידו מן קרתא ושריאו לקטלא מעמא קטילין כזמן בזמן בכבש ארחתא דחדא סלקא לבית אל וחדא לגבעתא בחקלא כתלתין גברא בישראל:
byshral gbra kthlthyn bkhqla lgbetha wkhda al lbyth slqa dkhda arkhtha bkbsh bzmn kzmn qTylyn mema lqTla wshryaw qrtha mn athngydw ema lqdmwth bnymyn bny wnpqw
The children of Benjamin went out against the people, and were drawn away from the city; and they began to strike and kill of the people as at other times, in the highways, of which one goes up to Bethel and the other to Gibeah, in the field, about thirty men of Israel.
32
ואמרו בני בנימין תבירין אנון קדמנא כדבקדמיתא ובני ישראל אמרו נפך ונגודנון מן קרתא לכבשיא:
lkbshya qrtha mn wngwdnwn npk amrw yshral wbny kdbqdmytha qdmna anwn thbyryn bnymyn bny wamrw
The children of Benjamin said, “They are struck down before us, as at the first.” But the children of Israel said, “Let’s flee, and draw them away from the city to the highways.”
33
וכל אנש ישראל קמו מאתריהון וסדרו קרבא במישרי יריחו וכמנא ישראל מגיח מאתריה ממישר גבעתא:
gbetha mmyshr mathryh mgykh yshral wkmna yrykhw bmyshry qrba wsdrw mathryhwn qmw yshral ansh wkl
All the men of Israel rose up out of their place and set themselves in array at Baal Tamar. Then the ambushers of Israel broke out of their place, even out of Maareh Geba.
34
ואתו מדרום לגבעתא עסרא אלפין גבר עולים מכל ישראל ועבדי קרבא תקיפו ואנון לא ידעין ארי קריבת דתיתי להון בישתא:
byshtha lhwn dthythy qrybth ary ydeyn la wanwn thqypw qrba webdy yshral mkl ewlym gbr alpyn esra lgbetha mdrwm wathw
Ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel came over against Gibeah, and the battle was severe; but they didn’t know that disaster was close to them.
35
ותבר יי ית בנימין קדם ישראל וחבילו בני ישראל בדבית בנימין ביומא ההוא עסרין וחמשא אלפין ומאה גברא כל אלין שלפי סיפא:
sypa shlpy alyn kl gbra wmah alpyn wkhmsha esryn hhwa bywma bnymyn bdbyth yshral bny wkhbylw yshral qdm bnymyn yth yy wthbr
Yahweh struck Benjamin before Israel; and the children of Israel destroyed of Benjamin that day twenty-five thousand one hundred men. All these drew the sword.
36
וחזו בני בנימין ארי אתברו ויהבו אנש ישראל אתר לבנימין ארי אתרחיצו על כמנא דשויאו על גבעתא:
gbetha el dshwyaw kmna el athrkhytsw ary lbnymyn athr yshral ansh wyhbw athbrw ary bnymyn bny wkhzw
So the children of Benjamin saw that they were struck, for the men of Israel yielded to Benjamin because they trusted the ambushers whom they had set against Gibeah.
37
וכמנא אוחי ואתנגיד על גבעתא ואתנגיד כמנא ומחא ית כל קרתא לפתגם דחרב:
dkhrb lpthgm qrtha kl yth wmkha kmna wathngyd gbetha el wathngyd awkhy wkmna
The ambushers hurried, and rushed on Gibeah; then the ambushers spread out, and struck all the city with the edge of the sword.
38
וזמנא הוה מתקן לאנש ישראל עם כמנא דיסגון לאסקותהון יטור דתנן מן קרתא:
qrtha mn dthnn yTwr lasqwthhwn dysgwn kmna em yshral lansh mthqn hwh wzmna
Now the appointed sign between the men of Israel and the ambushers was that they should make a great cloud of smoke rise up out of the city.
39
ואתחזר אנש ישראל בקרבא ודבית בנימין שריאו לקטלא קטיליא באנש ישראל כתלתין גברא ארי אמרו ברם מתבר תבירין אנון קדמנא כקרבא קדמאה:
qdmah kqrba qdmna anwn thbyryn mthbr brm amrw ary gbra kthlthyn yshral bansh qTylya lqTla shryaw bnymyn wdbyth bqrba yshral ansh wathkhzr
The men of Israel turned in the battle, and Benjamin began to strike and kill of the men of Israel about thirty persons; for they said, “Surely they are struck down before us, as in the first battle.”
40
ותננא שרי לאסקא מן קרתא יטור דתנן ואתפניאו דבית בנימין בתריהון והא סליק תננא דקרתא לצית שמיא:
shmya ltsyth dqrtha thnna slyq wha bthryhwn bnymyn dbyth wathpnyaw dthnn yTwr qrtha mn lasqa shry wthnna
But when the cloud began to arise up out of the city in a pillar of smoke, the Benjamites looked behind them; and behold, the whole city went up in smoke to the sky.
41
ואנש ישראל אתחזר ואתבהיל אנש בנימין ארי חזא ארי קריבת דתיתי להון בישתא:
byshtha lhwn dthythy qrybth ary khza ary bnymyn ansh wathbhyl athkhzr yshral wansh
The men of Israel turned, and the men of Benjamin were dismayed; for they saw that disaster had come on them.
42
ואתפניאו קדם אנש ישראל לאורח מדברא ועבדי קרבא אדביקונון ואנש כמנא קמו מקרויהון קטלין בהון מכא ומכא:
wmka mka bhwn qTlyn mqrwyhwn qmw kmna wansh adbyqwnwn qrba webdy mdbra lawrkh yshral ansh qdm wathpnyaw
Therefore they turned their backs before the men of Israel to the way of the wilderness, but the battle followed hard after them; and those who came out of the cities destroyed them in the middle of it.
43
טלטילו ית דבית בנימין רדפונון מבית ניחהון טרדונון עד לקביל גבעתא ממדנח שמשא:
shmsha mmdnkh gbetha lqbyl ed Trdwnwn nykhhwn mbyth rdpwnwn bnymyn dbyth yth TlTylw
They surrounded the Benjamites, chased them, and trod them down at their resting place, as far as near Gibeah toward the sunrise.
44
ואתקטלו מדבית בנימין תמנת עסר אלפין גברא ית כל אלין גברא עבדי קרבא:
qrba ebdy gbra alyn kl yth gbra alpyn esr thmnth bnymyn mdbyth wathqTlw
Eighteen thousand men of Benjamin fell; all these were men of valor.
45
ואתפניאו ואפיכו למדברא לכיף רמון ואטמרו בכיבשיא חמשא אלפין גברא ואדביקו בתריהון עד גדעם וקטילו מנהון תרין אלפין גברא:
gbra alpyn thryn mnhwn wqTylw gdem ed bthryhwn wadbyqw gbra alpyn khmsha bkybshya waTmrw rmwn lkyp lmdbra wapykw wathpnyaw
They turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon. They gleaned five thousand men of them in the highways, and followed hard after them to Gidom, and struck two thousand men of them.
46
והוו כל דאתקטילו מדבית בנימין עסרין וחמשא אלפין גברא שלפי סיפא ביומא ההוא ית כל אלין גברי עבדי קרבא:
qrba ebdy gbry alyn kl yth hhwa bywma sypa shlpy gbra alpyn wkhmsha esryn bnymyn mdbyth dathqTylw kl whww
So that all who fell that day of Benjamin were twenty-five thousand men who drew the sword. All these were men of valor.
47
ואתפניאו ואפיכו למדברא לכיף רמון שית מאה גברא ויתיבו בכיף רמון ארבעא ירחין:
yrkhyn arbea rmwn bkyp wythybw gbra mah shyth rmwn lkyp lmdbra wapykw wathpnyaw
But six hundred men turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon, and stayed in the rock of Rimmon four months.
48
ואנש ישראל תבו לות בני בנימין ומחונון לפתגם דחרב מקרויהון גמרינון עד בעירא עד כל דאשתכח אף כל קרויא דאשתכחא אוקידו בנורא:
bnwra awqydw dashthkkha qrwya kl ap dashthkkh kl ed beyra ed gmrynwn mqrwyhwn dkhrb lpthgm wmkhwnwn bnymyn bny lwth thbw yshral wansh
The men of Israel turned again on the children of Benjamin, and struck them with the edge of the sword—including the entire city, the livestock, and all that they found. Moreover they set all the cities which they found on fire.
