והוה בתר דמית יהושע ושאילו בני ישראל במימרא דיי למימר מן יסק לנא לות כנענאה בקדמיתא לאגחא קרבא ביה:
byh qrba lagkha bqdmytha knenah lwth lna ysq mn lmymr dyy bmymra yshral bny wshaylw yhwshe dmyth bthr whwh
After the death of Joshua, the children of Israel asked of Yahweh, saying, “Who should go up for us first against the Canaanites, to fight against them?”

ואמר יי יהודה יסק הא מסרית ית יתבי ארעא בידיה:
bydyh area ythby yth msryth ha ysq yhwdh yy wamr
Yahweh said, “Judah shall go up. Behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.”

ואמר יהודה לשמעון אחוהי סק עמי בעדבי ונגיח קרבא עם כנענאה ואהך אף אנא עמך בעדבך ואזל עמיה שמעון:
shmewn emyh wazl bedbk emk ana ap wahk knenah em qrba wngykh bedby emy sq akhwhy lshmewn yhwdh wamr
Judah said to Simeon his brother, “Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with you into your lot.” So Simeon went with him.

וסליקו דבית יהודה ומסר יי ית כנענאה ופריזאה בידיהון ומחנון בבזק עסרא אלפין גברא:
gbra alpyn esra bbzq wmkhnwn bydyhwn wpryzah knenah yth yy wmsr yhwdh dbyth wslyqw
Judah went up, and Yahweh delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand. They struck ten thousand men in Bezek.

ואשכחו ית אדני בזק בבזק ואגיחו קרבא ביה ומחו ית כנענאי וית פריזאי:
pryzay wyth knenay yth wmkhw byh qrba wagykhw bbzq bzq adny yth washkkhw
They found Adoni-Bezek in Bezek, and they fought against him. They struck the Canaanites and the Perizzites.

וערק אדני בזק ורדפו בתרוהי ואחדו יתיה וקציצו ית קרסלי ידוהי ורגלוהי:
wrglwhy ydwhy qrsly yth wqtsytsw ythyh wakhdw bthrwhy wrdpw bzq adny werq
But Adoni-Bezek fled. They pursued him, caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his big toes.

ואמר אדני בזק שבעין מלכין קרסלי ידיהון ורגליהון מקצצין הוו מלקטין לחמא תחות פתורי כמא דעבדית כן שלים לי יי ואיתוהי לירושלם ומית תמן:
thmn wmyth lyrwshlm waythwhy yy ly shlym kn debdyth kma pthwry thkhwth lkhma mlqTyn hww mqtstsyn wrglyhwn ydyhwn qrsly mlkyn shbeyn bzq adny wamr
Adoni-Bezek said, “Seventy kings, having their thumbs and their big toes cut off, scavenged under my table. As I have done, so God has done to me.” They brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.

ואגיחו קרבא בני יהודה בירושלם וכבשו יתה ומחוהא לפתגם דחרב וית קרתא אוקידו בנורא:
bnwra awqydw qrtha wyth dkhrb lpthgm wmkhwha ythh wkbshw byrwshlm yhwdh bny qrba wagykhw
The children of Judah fought against Jerusalem, took it, struck it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.

ובתר כן נחתו בני יהודה לאגחא קרבא בכנענאי יתיב טורא ודרומא ושפלתא:
wshpltha wdrwma Twra ythyb bknenay qrba lagkha yhwdh bny nkhthw kn wbthr
After that, the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites who lived in the hill country, and in the South, and in the lowland.

ואזלו דבית יהודה לות כנענאי דיתבין בחברון ושום חברון מלקדמין קרית ארבע ומחו ית ששי וית אחימן וית תלמי:
thlmy wyth akhymn wyth shshy yth wmkhw arbe qryth mlqdmyn khbrwn wshwm bkhbrwn dythbyn knenay lwth yhwdh dbyth wazlw
Judah went against the Canaanites who lived in Hebron. (The name of Hebron before that was Kiriath Arba.) They struck Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai.

ואזלו מתמן לות יתבי דביר ושום דביר מלקדמין קרית ארכי:
arky qryth mlqdmyn dbyr wshwm dbyr ythby lwth mthmn wazlw
From there he went against the inhabitants of Debir. (The name of Debir before that was Kiriath Sepher.)

ואמר כלב דימחי ית קרית ארכי ויכבשינה ואתן ליה ית עכסה ברתי לאתו:
lathw brthy eksh yth lyh wathn wykbshynh arky qryth yth dymkhy klb wamr
Caleb said, “I will give Achsah my daughter as wife to the man who strikes Kiriath Sepher, and takes it.”

וכבשה עתניאל בר קנז אחוהי דכלב דזעיר מניה ויהב ליה ית עכסה ברתיה לאתו:
lathw brthyh eksh yth lyh wyhb mnyh dzeyr dklb akhwhy qnz br ethnyal wkbshh
Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, took it, so he gave him Achsah his daughter as his wife.

והוה במעלה ואמלכתיה למשאל מן אבוהא אחסנתא ואתרכינת מעל חמרא ואמר לה כלב מה ליך:
lyk mh klb lh wamr khmra mel wathrkynth akhsntha abwha mn lmshal wamlkthyh bmelh whwh
When she came, she got him to ask her father for a field. She got off her donkey; and Caleb said to her, “What would you like?”

ואמרת ליה הב לי אחסנתא ארי לארע דרומא יהבתני ותתן לי אתר בית שקיא דמיא ויהב לה כלב ית בית שקיא עלאה וית בית שקיא תחתאה:
thkhthah shqya byth wyth elah shqya byth yth klb lh wyhb dmya shqya byth athr ly wththn yhbthny drwma lare ary akhsntha ly hb lyh wamrth
She said to him, “Give me a blessing; because you have set me in the land of the South, give me also springs of water.” Then Caleb gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.

ובני שלמאה חמוהי דמשה סליקו מן קרתא יריחו עם בני יהודה מדבר יהודה די בדרום ערד ואזלו ויתבו עם עמא:
ema em wythbw wazlw erd bdrwm dy yhwdh mdbr yhwdh bny em yrykhw qrtha mn slyqw dmshh khmwhy shlmah wbny
The children of the Kenite, Moses’ brother-in-law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the south of Arad; and they went and lived with the people.

ואזל יהודה עם שמעון אחוהי ומחו ית כנענאה יתיב צפת וגמרו יתה וקרא ית שמא דקרתא חרמה:
khrmh dqrtha shma yth wqra ythh wgmrw tspth ythyb knenah yth wmkhw akhwhy shmewn em yhwdh wazl
Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they struck the Canaanites who inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. The name of the city was called Hormah.

וכבש יהודה ית עזה וית תחומא וית אשקלון וית תחומא וית עקרון וית תחומא:
thkhwma wyth eqrwn wyth thkhwma wyth ashqlwn wyth thkhwma wyth ezh yth yhwdh wkbsh
Also Judah took Gaza with its border, and Ashkelon with its border, and Ekron with its border.

והוה מימרא דיי בסעדיה דבית יהודה ותריכו ית יתבי טורא ובתר כן דחבו לא יכילו לתרכא ית יתבי מישרא ארי רתיכין דברזלא להון:
lhwn dbrzla rthykyn ary myshra ythby yth lthrka ykylw la dkhbw kn wbthr Twra ythby yth wthrykw yhwdh dbyth bsedyh dyy mymra whwh
Yahweh was with Judah, and drove out the inhabitants of the hill country; for he could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.

ויהבו לכלב ית חברון כמא דמליל משה ותריך מתמן ית תלתא בני גבריא:
gbrya bny thltha yth mthmn wthryk mshh dmlyl kma khbrwn yth lklb wyhbw
They gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses had said, and he drove the three sons of Anak out of there.

וית יבוסאי יתבי ירושלם לא תריכו בני בנימין ויתיבו יבוסאי עם בני בנימין בירושלם עד יומא הדין:
hdyn ywma ed byrwshlm bnymyn bny em ybwsay wythybw bnymyn bny thrykw la yrwshlm ythby ybwsay wyth
The children of Benjamin didn’t drive out the Jebusites who inhabited Jerusalem, but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.

וסליקו דבית יוסף אף אנון לבית אל ומימרא דיי בסעדהון:
bsedhwn dyy wmymra al lbyth anwn ap ywsp dbyth wslyqw
The house of Joseph also went up against Bethel, and Yahweh was with them.
23
ושלחו מאללין דבית יוסף לבית אל ושום קרתא מלקדמין לוז:
lwz mlqdmyn qrtha wshwm al lbyth ywsp dbyth mallyn wshlkhw
The house of Joseph sent to spy out Bethel. (The name of the city before that was Luz.)
24
וחזו נטריא גברא נפיק מן קרתא ואמרו ליה אחזינא כען ית מעלנא דקרתא ונעבד עמך טיבו:
Tybw emk wnebd dqrtha melna yth ken akhzyna lyh wamrw qrtha mn npyq gbra nTrya wkhzw
The watchers saw a man come out of the city, and they said to him, “Please show us the entrance into the city, and we will deal kindly with you.”
25
ואחזינון ית מעלנא דקרתא ומחו ית קרתא לפתגם דחרב וית גברא וית כל זרעיתיה שזיבו:
shzybw zreythyh kl wyth gbra wyth dkhrb lpthgm qrtha yth wmkhw dqrtha melna yth wakhzynwn
He showed them the entrance into the city, and they struck the city with the edge of the sword; but they let the man and all his family go.

ואזל גברא לארעא חתאי ובנא קרתא וקרא שמה לוז הוא שמה עד יומא הדין:
hdyn ywma ed shmh hwa lwz shmh wqra qrtha wbna khthay larea gbra wazl
The man went into the land of the Hittites, built a city, and called its name Luz, which is its name to this day.

ולא תריכו דבית מנשה ית בית שאן וית כפרנהא וית תענך וית כפרנהא וית יתבי דור וית כפרנהא וית יתבי יבלעם וית כפרנהא וית יתבי מגדו וית כפרנהא ושרי כנענאה למתב בארעא הדא:
hda barea lmthb knenah wshry kprnha wyth mgdw ythby wyth kprnha wyth yblem ythby wyth kprnha wyth dwr ythby wyth kprnha wyth thenk wyth kprnha wyth shan byth yth mnshh dbyth thrykw wla
Manasseh didn’t drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shean and its towns, nor Taanach and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.
28
והוה כד תקיף ישראל ושוי ית כנענאה למסקי מסין ותרכא לא תרכינון:
thrkynwn la wthrka msyn lmsqy knenah yth wshwy yshral thqyp kd whwh
When Israel had grown strong, they put the Canaanites to forced labor, and didn’t utterly drive them out.

ודבית אפרים לא תריך ית כנענאי דיתבין בגזר ויתבו כנענאי ביניהון בגזר:
bgzr bynyhwn knenay wythbw bgzr dythbyn knenay yth thryk la aprym wdbyth
Ephraim didn’t drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer, but the Canaanites lived in Gezer among them.

דבית זבולון לא תריכו ית יתבי קטרון וית יתבי נהלל ויתבו כנענאי ביניהון והוו למסקי מסין:
msyn lmsqy whww bynyhwn knenay wythbw nhll ythby wyth qTrwn ythby yth thrykw la zbwlwn dbyth
Zebulun didn’t drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites lived among them, and became subject to forced labor.
31
דבית אשר לא תריכו ית יתבי עכו וית יתבי צידון וית אחלב וית אכזיב וית חלבה וית אפיק וית רחוב:
rkhwb wyth apyq wyth khlbh wyth akzyb wyth akhlb wyth tsydwn ythby wyth ekw ythby yth thrykw la ashr dbyth
Asher didn’t drive out the inhabitants of Acco, nor the inhabitants of Sidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob;

ויתיבו דבית אשר בגו כנענאי יתבי ארעא ארי לא תרכינון:
thrkynwn la ary area ythby knenay bgw ashr dbyth wythybw
but the Asherites lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, for they didn’t drive them out.
33
דבית נפתלי לא תריכו ית יתבי בית שמש וית יתבי בית ענת ויתיבו בגו כנענאי יתבי ארעא ויתבי בית שמש ובית ענת הוו להון למסקי מסין:
msyn lmsqy lhwn hww enth wbyth shmsh byth wythby area ythby knenay bgw wythybw enth byth ythby wyth shmsh byth ythby yth thrykw la npthly dbyth
Naphtali didn’t drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth Anath; but he lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land. Nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh and of Beth Anath became subject to forced labor.

ודחקו אמוראי ית בני דן לטורא ארי לא שבקונון למחת למישרא:
lmyshra lmkhth shbqwnwn la ary lTwra dn bny yth amwray wdkhqw
The Amorites forced the children of Dan into the hill country, for they would not allow them to come down to the valley;
35
ושרי אמוראה למתב בטור חרס באילון ובשעלבים ותקיפת יד בית יוסף והוו למסקי מסין:
msyn lmsqy whww ywsp byth yd wthqypth wbshelbym baylwn khrs bTwr lmthb amwrah wshry
but the Amorites would dwell in Mount Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim. Yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became subject to forced labor.
