ܒܝ̈ܘܡܬܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܠܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܒܝܬ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܒܝ̈ܘܡܬܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܫܒܛܐ ܕܕܢ ܒܥܐ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܦܠܓܘܬܐ ܠܡܬܒ ܡܛܘܠ ܕܠܐ ܐܬܦܠܓܬ ܗܘܬ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܝܘܡܐ ܗܘ ܝܪܬܘܬܐ ܒܝܢܬ ܫܒ̈ܛܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ

In those days there was no king in Israel. In those days the tribe of the Danites sought an inheritance to dwell in; for to that day, their inheritance had not fallen to them among the tribes of Israel.

ܘܫܕܪܘ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܕܢ ܡܢ ܫܪ̈ܒܬܗܘܢ ܚܡܫܐ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ ܡܢ ܨܕܥܐ ܘܡܢ ܐܫܬܘܐܝܠ ܠܡܓܫ ܐܪܥܐ ܘܠܡܒܕܩܗ̇ ܘܐܡܪ̈ܝܢ ܠܗܘܢ ܙܠܘ ܒܘܕܩܘܗ ܠܐܪܥܐ ܘܐܬܘ ܠܛܘܪܐ ܕܐܦܪܝܡ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܒܝܬ ܡܝܟܐ ܘܒܬܘ ܬܡܢ

The children of Dan sent five men of their family from their whole number, men of valor, from Zorah and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land and to search it. They said to them, “Go, explore the land!” They came to the hill country of Ephraim, to the house of Micah, and lodged there.

ܗܢܘܢ ܒܝܬ ܡܝܟܐ ܘܐܫܬܘܕܥܘ ܠܩܠܗ ܕܥܠܝܡܐ ܠܘܝ ܘܣܛܘ ܠܘܬܗ ܠܬܡܢ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܗ ܡܢܐ ܐܬܝܬ ܠܗܪܟܐ ܘܡܢܐ ܥܒܕ ܐܢܬ ܗܪܟܐ

When they were by the house of Micah, they knew the voice of the young man the Levite; so they went over there and said to him, “Who brought you here? What do you do in this place? What do you have here?”

ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܗܟܢܐ ܘܗܟܢܐ ܥܒܕ ܠܝ ܡܝܟܐ ܘܐܓܪܢܝ ܘܗܘܝܬ ܠܗ ܟܘܡܪܐ
kwmr' lh whwyth w'grny myk' ly ebd whkn' hkn' lhwn 'mr
He said to them, “Thus and thus has Micah dealt with me, and he has hired me, and I have become his priest.”

ܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܫܐܠ ܠܢ ܒܐܠܗܐ ܘܢܕܥ ܐܢ ܡܟܫܪܐ ܐܘܪܚܐ ܕܐܙܠܝܢܢ ܥܠܝܗ

They said to him, “Please ask counsel of God, that we may know whether our way which we go shall be prosperous.”

ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܟܘܡܪܐ ܙܠܘ ܒܫܠܡܐ ܘܡܪܝܐ ܢܬܩܢ ܐܘܪܚܟܘܢ ܕܬܐܙܠܘܢ ܥܠܝܗ

The priest said to them, “Go in peace. Your way in which you go is before Yahweh.”

ܘܐܙܠܘ ܚܡܫܐ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ ܠܠܝܫ ܘܚܙܘ ܠܥܡܐ ܕܝܬܒ ܒܓܘܗ̇ ܕܝܬܒܝܢ ܒܫܠܝܐ ܐܝܟ ܢܡܘܣܐ ܕܨܝ̈ܕܢܝܐ ܫܠܝܢ ܘܒܗܝܠܝܢ ܘܠܝܬ ܕܡܗܪ ܒܐܪܥܐ ܐܦ ܠܐ ܕܐܠܨ ܘܡܥܝܩ ܘܪܚܝܩܝܢ ܐܢܘܢ ܡܢ ܨܝ̈ܕܢܝܐ ܘܡܠܬܐ ܠܝܬ ܠܗܘܢ ܥܡ ܒܪܢܫ

Then the five men departed and came to Laish and saw the people who were there, how they lived in safety, in the way of the Sidonians, quiet and secure; for there was no one in the land possessing authority, that might put them to shame in anything, and they were far from the Sidonians, and had no dealings with anyone else.

ܘܐܬܘ ܠܘܬ ܐܚܝ̈ܗܘܢ ܠܨܕܥܐ ܘܠܐܫܬܘܐܝܠ ܘܐܡܪ̈ܝܢ ܠܗܘܢ ܐ̈ܚܝܗܘܢ ܐܝܡܟܐ ܐܬܝܬܘܢ
'thythwn 'ymk' 'khyhwn lhwn w'mryn wl'shthw'yl ltsde' 'khyhwn lwth w'thw
They came to their brothers at Zorah and Eshtaol; and their brothers asked them, “What do you say?”

ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܡܢ ܠܝܫ ܩܘܡܘ ܗܫܐ ܢܣܩ ܥܠܝܗܘܢ ܡܛܘܠ ܕܚܙܝܢܗ̇ ܠܐܪܥܐ ܘܛܒܐ ܗܝ ܛܒ ܘܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܐ ܬܫܬܩܘܢ ܐܦܠܐ ܬܬܚܒܢܘܢ ܠܡܐܙܠ ܘܠܡܥܠ ܘܠܡܐܪܬ ܐܪܥܐ

They said, “Arise, and let’s go up against them; for we have seen the land, and behold, it is very good. Do you stand still? Don’t be slothful to go and to enter in to possess the land.

ܒܡ̈ܥܠܢܝܗܘܢ ܥܐܠܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܥܠ ܥܡܐ ܟܗܝܢܐ ܘܐܪܥܐ ܐܪܘܚܬܐ ܕܐ̈ܝܕܝܐ ܩܕܡܝܟܘܢ ܡܛܘܠ ܕܐܫܠܡܗ̇ ܐܠܗܐ ܒܐ̈ܝܕܝܟܘܢ ܕܠܐ ܬܚܣܪܘܢ ܡܕܡ ܒܐܪܥܐ
b're' mdm thkhsrwn dl' b'ydykwn 'lh' d'shlmh mTwl qdmykwn d'ydy' 'rwkhth' w're' khyn' em' el 'nthwn e'lyn bmelnyhwn
When you go, you will come to an unsuspecting people, and the land is large; for God has given it into your hand, a place where there is no lack of anything that is in the earth.”

ܘܫܩܠܘ ܡܢ ܬܡܢ ܫܪܒܬܐ ܕܕܢ ܡܢ ܨܕܥܐ ܘܡܢ ܐܫܬܘܐܝܠ ܫܬܡܐܐ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ ܕܡܙܝܢ̈ܝܢ ܒܡܐ̈ܢܝ ܩܪܒܐ
qrb' bm'ny dmzynyn gbryn shthm'' 'shthw'yl wmn tsde' mn ddn shrbth' thmn mn wshqlw
The family of the Danites set out from Zorah and Eshtaol with six hundred men armed with weapons of war.

ܘܣܠܩܘ ܘܫܪܘ ܒܩܘܪܝܬ ܢܥܪܝܢ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ ܡܛܘܠ ܗܢܐ ܩܪܐܘܗܝ ܠܐܬܪܐ ܗܘ ܡܫܪܝܬܐ ܕܕܢ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܝܘܡܢܐ ܗܐ ܒܣܬܪ ܩܘܪܝܬ ܢܥܪܝܢ
neryn qwryth bsthr h' lywmn' edm' ddn mshryth' hw l'thr' qr'why hn' mTwl dyhwd' neryn bqwryth wshrw wslqw
They went up and encamped in Kiriath Jearim in Judah. Therefore they call that place Mahaneh Dan to this day. Behold, it is behind Kiriath Jearim.

ܘܥܒܪܘ ܡܢ ܬܡܢ ܠܛܘܪܐ ܕܐܦܪܝܡ ܘܐܙܠܘ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܒܝܬ ܡܝܟܐ
myk' lbyth edm' w'zlw d'prym lTwr' thmn mn webrw
They passed from there to the hill country of Ephraim, and came to the house of Micah.

ܘܥܢܘ ܚܡܫܐ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ ܕܐܙܠܘ ܠܡܓܫ ܐܪܥܐ ܕܠܝܫ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܐܚܝ̈ܗܘܢ ܝܕܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܐܝܬ ܒܪ̈ܡܬܐ ܗܠܝܢ ܦܕܬܐ ܘܦܪܝܣܐ ܘܨܠܡܐ ܓܠܝܦܐ ܘܢܣܝܟܐ ܘܗܫܐ ܕܥܘ ܡܢܐ ܥܒܕܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ
'nthwn ebdyn mn' dew whsh' wnsyk' glyp' wtslm' wprys' pdth' hlyn brmth' d'yth 'nthwn ydeyn l'khyhwn w'mrw dlysh 're' lmgsh d'zlw gbryn khmsh' wenw
Then the five men who went to spy out the country of Laish answered and said to their brothers, “Do you know that there is in these houses an ephod, and teraphim, and a carved image, and a molten image? Now therefore consider what you have to do.”

ܘܣܛܘ ܘܥܠܘ ܠܒܝܬ ܥܠܝܡܐ ܠܘܝ ܠܒܝܬ ܡܝܟܐ ܘܫܐܠܘ ܒܫܠܡܗ

They went over there and came to the house of the young Levite man, even to the house of Micah, and asked him how he was doing.

ܘܫܬܡܐܐ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ ܕܡܙܝܢ̈ܝܢ ܒܡܐ̈ܢܝ ܩܪܒܐ ܩܝܡܝܢ ܒܡܥܠܢܐ ܕܬܪܥܐ ܡܢ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܕܢ
dn bny mn dthre' bmeln' qymyn qrb' bm'ny dmzynyn gbryn wshthm''
The six hundred men armed with their weapons of war, who were of the children of Dan, stood by the entrance of the gate.

ܘܣܠܩܘ ܚܡܫܐ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ ܕܐܙܠܘ ܠܡܓܫ ܐܪܥܐ ܘܥܠܘ ܠܬܡܢ ܘܢܣܒܘ ܨܠܡܐ ܘܦܕܬܐ ܘܦܪܝܣܐ ܘܚܫܠܬܐ ܘܟܘܡܪܐ ܟܕ ܩܐܡ ܒܡܥܠܢܐ ܕܬܪܥܐ ܘܫܬܡܐܐ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ ܗܢܘܢ ܕܡܙܝܢܝܢ ܒܡܐ̈ܢܝ ܩܪܒܐ

The five men who went to spy out the land went up, and came in there, and took the engraved image, the ephod, the teraphim, and the molten image; and the priest stood by the entrance of the gate with the six hundred men armed with weapons of war.

ܥܠܘ ܠܒܝܬ ܡܝܟܐ ܘܢܣܒܘ ܨܠܡܐ ܘܦܕܬܐ ܘܦܪܝܣܐ ܘܚܫܠܬܐ ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܟܘܡܪܐ ܡܢܐ ܥܒܕܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ
'nthwn ebdyn mn' kwmr' lhwn 'mr wkhshlth' wprys' wpdth' tslm' wnsbw myk' lbyth elw
When these went into Micah’s house, and took the engraved image, the ephod, the teraphim, and the molten image, the priest said to them, “What are you doing?”

ܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܫܬܘܩ ܣܝܡ ܐܝܕܟ ܥܠ ܦܘܡܟ ܘܬܐ ܥܡܢ ܘܗܘܝ ܠܢ ܐܒܐ ܘܟܘܡܪܐ ܐܝܢܐ ܛܒ ܠܟ ܕܬܗܘܐ ܟܘܡܪܐ ܠܒܝܬ ܓܒܪܐ ܚܕ ܐܘ ܕܬܗܘܐ ܟܘܡܪܐ ܠܛܘܗܡܐ ܘܠܫܪܒܬܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ
d'ysryl wlshrbth' lTwhm' kwmr' dthhw' 'w khd gbr' lbyth kwmr' dthhw' lk Tb 'yn' wkwmr' 'b' ln whwy emn wth' pwmk el 'ydk sym shthwq lh 'mryn
They said to him, “Hold your peace, put your hand on your mouth, and go with us. Be a father and a priest to us. Is it better for you to be priest to the house of one man, or to be priest to a tribe and a family in Israel?”

ܘܫܦܪ ܠܒܗ ܕܟܘܡܪܐ ܘܢܣܒ ܨܠܡܐ ܘܦܕܬܐ ܘܦܪܝܣܐ ܘܐܙܠ ܥܡ ܥܡܐ

The priest’s heart was glad, and he took the ephod, the teraphim, and the engraved image, and went with the people.

ܘܐܬܦܢܝܘ ܘܥܒܪܘ ܘܐܙܠܘ ܘܢܩ̈ܘܬܐ ܘܩܢܝܢܐ ܘܒܥܝܪܐ ܩܕܡܝܗܘܢ
qdmyhwn wbeyr' wqnyn' wnqwth' w'zlw webrw w'thpnyw
So they turned and departed, and put the little ones, the livestock, and the goods before them.

ܗܢܘܢ ܐܪܚܩܘ ܡܢ ܒܝܬ ܡܝܟܐ ܘܓܒܪܐ ܕܐܝܬ ܒܒܝܬܐ ܥܠ ܓܢܒ ܒܝܬ ܡܝܟܐ ܩܥܐ ܘܪܕܦ ܒܬܪ ܒ̈ܢܝ ܕܢ

When they were a good way from the house of Micah, the men who were in the houses near Micah’s house gathered together and overtook the children of Dan.

ܘܩܪܐ ܠܒܢ̈ܝ ܕܢ ܘܐܬܦܢܝܘ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܡܝܟܐ ܡܐ ܠܟ ܕܩܥܐ ܐܢܬ
'nth dqe' lk m' lmyk' w'mrw w'thpnyw dn lbny wqr'
As they called to the children of Dan, they turned their faces, and said to Micah, “What ails you, that you come with such a company?”

ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܥܒܕܬ ܢܣܒܬܘܢ ܘܐܦ ܠܟܘܡܪܐ ܕܒܪܬܘܢ ܘܐܙܠܬܘܢ ܘܡܢܐ ܐܝܬ ܠܝ ܬܘܒ ܕܐܡܪܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܝ ܡܐ ܠܟ
lk m' ly 'nthwn d'mryn thwb ly 'yth wmn' w'zlthwn dbrthwn lkwmr' w'p nsbthwn debdth 'lh' lhwn 'mr
He said, “You have taken away my gods which I made, and the priest, and have gone away! What more do I have? How can you ask me, ‘What ails you?’”

ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܗ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܕܢ ܠܐ ܬܫܡܥ ܩܠܟ ܠܘܬܢ ܕܠܡܐ ܢܦܓܥܘܢ ܒܟ ܐܢܫܐ ܡܪ̈ܝܪܝ ܢܦܫܐ ܘܬܘܒܕ ܢܦܫܟ ܘܢܦܫܐ ܕܒܢܝ̈ܟ
dbnyk wnpsh' npshk wthwbd npsh' mryry 'nsh' bk npgewn dlm' lwthn qlk thshme l' dn bny lh w'mrw
The children of Dan said to him, “Don’t let your voice be heard among us, lest angry fellows fall on you, and you lose your life, with the lives of your household.”

ܘܐܙܠܘ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܕܢ ܠܐܘܪܚܗܘܢ ܘܟܕ ܚܙܐ ܡܝܟܐ ܕܥܫܝܢܝܢ ܐܢܘܢ ܡܢܗ ܐܬܦܢܝ ܘܐܬܐ ܠܒܝܬܗ
lbythh w'th' 'thpny mnh 'nwn deshynyn myk' khz' wkd l'wrkhhwn dn bny w'zlw
The children of Dan went their way; and when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back to his house.

ܘܗܢܘܢ ܢܣܒܘ ܠܡܕܡ ܕܥܒܕ ܡܝܟܐ ܘܕܒܪܘ ܠܟܘܡܪܐ ܕܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܘܥܠܘ ܠܠܝܫ ܥܠ ܥܡܐ ܟܗܝܢܐ ܘܫܠܝܐ ܘܡܚܘ ܐܢܘܢ ܒܦܘܡܐ ܕܚܪܒܐ ܘܠܩܪܝܬܐ ܐܘܩܕܘ ܒܢܘܪܐ
bnwr' 'wqdw wlqryth' dkhrb' bpwm' 'nwn wmkhw wshly' khyn' em' el llysh welw lh hw' d'yth lkwmr' wdbrw myk' debd lmdm nsbw whnwn
They took that which Micah had made, and the priest whom he had, and came to Laish, to a people quiet and unsuspecting, and struck them with the edge of the sword; then they burned the city with fire.

ܘܠܝܬ ܡ̇ܢ ܕܡܦܨܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܪܚܝܩܐ ܗܘܬ ܡܢ ܨܝܕܢ ܘܡܠܬܐ ܠܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܥܡ ܒܪ ܐܢܫ ܘܗܝ ܒܥܘܡܩܐ ܗܘܬ ܕܒܝܬ ܪܚܘܒ ܘܒܢܐܘܗ ܠܩܪܝܬܐ ܘܐܝܬܒܘ ܒܗ̇
bh w'ythbw lqryth' wbn'wh rkhwb dbyth hwth bewmq' why 'nsh br em lhwn hw' lyth wmlth' tsydn mn hwth drkhyq' mTl dmpts' mn wlyth
There was no deliverer, because it was far from Sidon, and they had no dealings with anyone else; and it was in the valley that lies by Beth Rehob. They built the city and lived in it.

ܘܩܪܘ ܫܡܗ̇ ܕܩܪܝܬܐ ܕܢ ܥܠ ܫܡ ܕܢ ܐܒܘܗܘܢ ܕܐܬܝܠܕ ܠܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܒܪܡ ܠܘܙ ܫܡܗ̇ ܗܘܐ ܠܩܪܝܬܐ ܡܢ ܩܕܝܡ
qdym mn lqryth' hw' shmh lwz brm l'ysryl d'thyld 'bwhwn dn shm el dn dqryth' shmh wqrw
They called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born to Israel; however the name of the city used to be Laish.

ܘܐܩܝܡܘ ܠܗܘܢ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܕܢ ܨܠܡܐ ܘܝܘܢܬܢ ܒܪ ܓܪܫܘܢ ܒܪ ܡܢܫܐ ܗܘ ܘܒܢ̈ܘܗܝ ܗܘܘ ܟܘܡܪ̈ܐ ܠܫܒܛܐ ܕܕܢ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܝܘܡܐ ܕܐܫܬܒܝܬ ܐܪܥܐ
're' d'shthbyth lywm' edm' ddn lshbT' kwmr' hww wbnwhy hw mnsh' br grshwn br wywnthn tslm' dn bny lhwn w'qymw
The children of Dan set up for themselves the engraved image; and Jonathan, the son of Gershom, the son of Moses, and his sons were priests to the tribe of the Danites until the day of the captivity of the land.
