ܘܟܕ ܫܡܥܘ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܡ̈ܠܟܐ ܕܐܝܬ ܒܥܒܪܐ ܕܝܘܪܕܢܢ ܒܛܘܪ̈ܐ ܘܒܦܩ̈ܥܬܐ ܘܒܟܠܗܘܢ ܣܦܪ̈ܘܗܝ ܕܝܡܐ ܪܒܐ ܕܠܘܩܒܠ ܠܒܢܢ ܚ̈ܬܝܐ ܘܐܡܘܪ̈ܝܐ ܘܟܢ̈ܥܢܝܐ ܘܦܪ̈ܙܝܐ ܘܚ̈ܘܝܐ ܘܝܒ̈ܘܣܝܐ
wybwsy' wkhwy' wprzy' wkneny' w'mwry' khthy' lbnn dlwqbl rb' dym' sprwhy wbklhwn wbpqeth' bTwr' dywrdnn bebr' d'yth mlk' klhwn shmew wkd
When all the kings who were beyond the Jordan, in the hill country, and in the lowland, and on all the shore of the great sea in front of Lebanon, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, heard of it

ܐܬܟܢܫܘ ܐܟܚܕܐ ܠܡܥܒܕ ܩܪܒܐ ܥܡ ܝܫܘܥ ܘܥܡ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܡܢ ܚܕ ܦܘܡ
pwm khd mn 'ysryl wem yshwe em qrb' lmebd 'kkhd' 'thknshw
they gathered themselves together to fight with Joshua and with Israel, with one accord.

ܘܥܡܘܪ̈ܐ ܕܓܒܥܘܢ ܫܡܥܘ ܡܕܡ ܕܥܒܕ ܝܫܘܥ ܠܥܝ ܘܠܐܝܪܝܚܘ
wl'yrykhw ley yshwe debd mdm shmew dgbewn wemwr'
But when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and to Ai,

ܘܥܒܕܘ ܐܦ ܗܢܘܢ ܒܥܪܝܡܘܬܐ ܘܐܙܠܘ ܐܙܕܘܕܘ ܘܐܪܡܝܘ ܣܩ̈ܐ ܒ̈ܠܝܐ ܥܠ ܚܡܪܗܘܢ ܘܙܩ̈ܐ ܕܚܡܪܐ ܕܒ̈ܠܝܢ ܘܡܒ̈ܙܥܢ ܘܡܨܪ̈ܪܢ
wmtsrrn wmbzen dblyn dkhmr' wzq' khmrhwn el bly' sq' w'rmyw 'zdwdw w'zlw berymwth' hnwn 'p webdw
they also resorted to a ruse, and went and made as if they had been ambassadors, and took old sacks on their donkeys, and old, torn-up and bound up wineskins,

ܘܡܣ̈ܢܐ ܕܒܠܝܝܢ ܘܛܪ̈ܡܣܝܬܐ ܣܐܝܢܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܒܪ̈ܓܠܝܗܘܢ ܘܢܚ̈ܬܐ ܒ̈ܠܝܐ ܠܒܝ̈ܫܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܘܠܚܡܐ ܕܙܘ̈ܕܝܗܘܢ ܝܒܫܘ ܘܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܦܓܘܪܐ
pgwr' lh whw' ybshw dzwdyhwn wlkhm' hww lbyshyn bly' wnkhth' brglyhwn hww s'ynyn wTrmsyth' dblyyn wmsn'
and old and patched sandals on their feet, and wore old garments. All the bread of their food supply was dry and moldy.

ܘܐܬܘ ܠܘܬ ܝܫܘܥ ܠܡܫܪܝܬܐ ܠܓܠܓܠܐ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܗ ܘܠܕܒܝܬ ܐܝܣܪܐܝܠ ܡܢ ܐܬܪܐ ܪܚܝܩܐ ܐܬܝܢ ܗܫܐ ܗܒܘ ܠܢ ܝܡܝܢܐ
ymyn' ln hbw hsh' 'thyn rkhyq' 'thr' mn 'ysr'yl wldbyth lh w'mrw lglgl' lmshryth' yshwe lwth w'thw
They went to Joshua at the camp at Gilgal, and said to him and to the men of Israel, “We have come from a far country. Now therefore make a covenant with us.”

ܘܐ̇ܡܪܝܢ ܕܒܝܬ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܠܚ̈ܘܝܐ ܐܢ ܠܘܬܢ ܥ̇ܡܪܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܡܢܐ ܗ̇ܘܝܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܝܡܝܢܐ
ymyn' lkwn hwy' lmn' 'nthwn emryn lwthn 'n lkhwy' 'ysryl dbyth w'mryn
The men of Israel said to the Hivites, “What if you live among us? How could we make a covenant with you?”

ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܝܫܘܥ ܥܒ̈ܕܝܟ ܚܢܢ ܐ̇ܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܐܝܡܟܐ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܘܡܢ ܐܝܡܟܐ ܐܬܝܬܘܢ
'thythwn 'ymk' wmn 'nthwn 'ymk' yshwe lhwn 'mr khnn ebdyk lyshwe w'mrw
They said to Joshua, “We are your servants.” Joshua said to them, “Who are you? Where do you come from?”

ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܗ ܡܢ ܐܪܥܐ ܘܡܢ ܐܬܪܐ ܕܪܚܝܩ ܛܒ ܐܬܘ ܥܒ̈ܕܝܟ ܠܫܡܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܟ ܡܛܠ ܕܫܡܥܢ ܫܡܗ ܘܟܠ ܡܕܡ ܕܥܒܕ ܒܡܨܪܝܢ
bmtsryn debd mdm wkl shmh dshmen mTl 'lhk dmry' lshmh ebdyk 'thw Tb drkhyq 'thr' wmn 're' mn lh w'mrw
They said to him, “Your servants have come from a very far country because of the name of Yahweh your God; for we have heard of his fame, all that he did in Egypt,

ܘܟܠ ܕܥܒܕ ܠܬܪ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܡ̈ܠܟܐ ܕܐܡܘܪ̈ܝܐ ܕܒܥܒܪܐ ܕܝܘܪܕܢܢ ܠܣܝܚܘܢ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܚܫܒܘܢ ܘܠܥܘܓ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܡܬܢܝܢ ܕܝ̇ܬܒ ܗܘܐ ܒܥܣܬܪܘܬ
besthrwth hw' dythb dmthnyn mlk' wlewg dkhshbwn mlk' lsykhwn dywrdnn dbebr' d'mwry' mlk' lthryhwn debd wkl
and all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon and to Og king of Bashan, who was at Ashtaroth.

ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܢ ܩܫܝܫ̈ܝܢ ܘܟܘܠܗܘܢ ܥܡܘܪ̈ܝܗ̇ ܕܐܪܥܢ ܣܒܘ ܥܡܟܘܢ ܙܘ̈ܕܐ ܠܐܘܪܚܐ ܘܙܠܘ ܠܐܘܪܥܗܘܢ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܗܘܢ ܕܥܒ̈ܕܝܟܘܢ ܚܢܢ ܡܟܝܠ ܗܒܘ ܠܢ ܝܡܝܢܐ
ymyn' ln hbw mkyl khnn debdykwn lhwn w'mrw l'wrehwn wzlw l'wrkh' zwd' emkwn sbw d'ren emwryh wkwlhwn qshyshyn ln w'mrw
Our elders and all the inhabitants of our country spoke to us, saying, ‘Take supplies in your hand for the journey, and go to meet them. Tell them, “We are your servants. Now make a covenant with us.”’

ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܝܫܘܥ ܗܢܐ ܠܚܡܢ ܟܕ ܚܡܝܡ ܐܙܕܘܕܢܝܗܝ ܡܢ ܒ̈ܬܝܢ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܕܢܦܩܢ ܠܡܐܬܐ ܠܘܬܟܘܢ ܘܗܫܐ ܗܐ ܐܝܒܫ ܘܗܘܐ ܦܓܘܪܐ
pgwr' whw' 'ybsh h' whsh' lwthkwn lm'th' dnpqn bywm' bthyn mn 'zdwdnyhy khmym kd lkhmn hn' lyshwe w'mrw
This our bread we took hot for our supplies out of our houses on the day we went out to go to you; but now, behold, it is dry, and has become moldy.

ܘܗܠܝܢ ܙܩ̈ܐ ܕܚܡܪܐ ܡܠܝܢ ܐܢܝ̈ܢ ܟܕ ܚ̈ܕܬܢ ܘܗܐ ܐܬܒܙܥ ܘܗܠܝܢ ܢܚ̈ܬܝܢ ܘܡܣ̈ܢܝܢ ܟܕ ܚܕܬܝܢ ܢܣܒܢ ܐܢܘܢ ܠܢ ܘܗܐ ܒܠܝܘ ܡܛܠ ܕܛܒ ܣܓܝܐܐ ܗܘܬ ܐܘܪܚܐ
'wrkh' hwth sgy'' dTb mTl blyw wh' ln 'nwn nsbn khdthyn kd wmsnyn nkhthyn whlyn 'thbze wh' khdthn kd 'nyn mlyn dkhmr' zq' whlyn
These wineskins, which we filled, were new; and behold, they are torn. These our garments and our sandals have become old because of the very long journey.”

ܘܢܣܒܘ ܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܗܠܝܢ ܙܘ̈ܕܝܗܘܢ ܘܐܙܠܘ ܘܡܢ ܦܘܡܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܠܐ ܫܐܠܘ
sh'lw l' dmry' pwmh wmn w'zlw zwdyhwn hlyn gbr' wnsbw
The men sampled their provisions, and didn’t ask counsel from Yahweh’s mouth.

ܘܥܒܕ ܠܗܘܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܫܠܡܐ ܘܝܗܒ ܠܗܘܢ ܝܡܝܢܐ ܠܚܝܝ̈ܗܘܢ ܘܐܝܡܘ ܠܗܘܢ ܪ̈ܘܪܒܢܐ ܕܟܢܘܫܬܐ
dknwshth' rwrbn' lhwn w'ymw lkhyyhwn ymyn' lhwn wyhb shlm' yshwe lhwn webd
Joshua made peace with them, and made a covenant with them, to let them live. The princes of the congregation swore to them.

ܘܡܢ ܒܬܪ ܬܠܬܐ ܝܘܡ̈ܝܢ ܡܢ ܒܬܪ ܕܝܗܒ ܠܗܘܢ ܝܡܝܢܐ ܫܡܥܘ ܕܩܪܝܒܝܢ ܐܢܘܢ ܠܗܘܢ ܘܒܝܢܬܗܘܢ ܫܪܝܢ
shryn wbynthhwn lhwn 'nwn dqrybyn shmew ymyn' lhwn dyhb bthr mn ywmyn thlth' bthr wmn
At the end of three days after they had made a covenant with them, they heard that they were their neighbors, and that they lived among them.

ܘܫܩܠܘ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܐܬܘ ܠܩܘܪ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܕܬܠܬܐ ܘܫܡ̈ܗܐ ܕܩܘܪ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܓܒܥܘܢ ܘܟܦܝܪܐ ܘܥܝܪܘܬ ܘܩܘܪܝܬ ܢܥܪܝܢ
neryn wqwryth weyrwth wkpyr' gbewn dqwryhwn wshmh' dthlth' bywm' lqwryhwn w'thw 'ysryl bny wshqlw
The children of Israel traveled and came to their cities on the third day. Now their cities were Gibeon, Chephirah, Beeroth, and Kiriath Jearim.

ܘܠܐ ܩܛܠܘ ܐܢܘܢ ܒܢ̈ܝ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܡܛܘܠ ܕܐܝܡܘ ܠܗܘܢ ܪ̈ܘܪܒܢܐ ܕܟܢܘܫܬܐ ܒܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܪܛ̇ܢܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܘܪܝ̇ܒܝܢ ܟܠܗ̇ ܟܢܘܫܬܐ ܥܠ ܪ̈ܘܪܒܢܐ
rwrbn' el knwshth' klh wrybyn hww wrTnyn d'ysryl 'lh' bmry' dknwshth' rwrbn' lhwn d'ymw mTwl 'ysryl bny 'nwn qTlw wl'
The children of Israel didn’t strike them, because the princes of the congregation had sworn to them by Yahweh, the God of Israel. All the congregation murmured against the princes.

ܘܐ̇ܡܪܝܢ ܪ̈ܘܪܒܢܐ ܕܟܢܘܫܬܐ ܚܢܢ ܐܝܡܝܢ ܠܗܘܢ ܒܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܡܟܝܠ ܠܐ ܡܫܟܚܝܢܢ ܠܡܗܪܘ ܐܢܘܢ
'nwn lmhrw mshkkhynn l' mkyl d'ysryl 'lh' bmry' lhwn 'ymyn khnn dknwshth' rwrbn' w'mryn
But all the princes said to all the congregation, “We have sworn to them by Yahweh, the God of Israel. Now therefore we may not touch them.

ܗܟܢܐ ܕܝܢ ܥ̇ܒܕܝܢܢ ܘܡܚܝܢܢ ܠܗܘܢ ܕܠܐ ܢܗܘܐ ܥܠܝܢ ܪܘܓܙܐ ܡܛܠ ܡ̈ܘܡܬܐ ܕܐܝܡܝܢ ܠܗܘܢ
lhwn d'ymyn mwmth' mTl rwgz' elyn nhw' dl' lhwn wmkhynn ebdynn dyn hkn'
We will do this to them, and let them live; lest wrath be on us, because of the oath which we swore to them.”

ܘܐ̇ܡܪܝܢ ܪ̈ܘܪܒܢܐ ܠܒܢ̈ܝ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܢܐܚܘܢ ܘܢܗܘܘܢ ܠܩ̇ܛܝܢ ܩܝܣ̈ܐ ܘܡ̇ܠܝܢ ܡ̈ܝܐ ܠܟܠܗ̇ ܟܢܘܫܬܐ ܘܗܘܘ ܠܩ̈ܛܝ ܩܝܣ̈ܐ ܘܡ̈ܠܝܝ ܡ̈ܝܐ ܠܟܠܗ̇ ܟܢܘܫܬܐ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܕܐܡܪܘ ܠܗܘܢ ܪ̈ܘܪܒܢܐ
rwrbn' lhwn d'mrw 'ykn' knwshth' lklh my' wmlyy qys' lqTy whww knwshth' lklh my' wmlyn qys' lqTyn wnhwwn n'khwn 'ysryl lbny rwrbn' w'mryn
The princes said to them, “Let them live.” So they became wood cutters and drawers of water for all the congregation, as the princes had spoken to them.

ܘܩܪܐ ܐܢܘܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܠܡܢܐ ܢܟܠܬܘܢܢ ܘܐܡܪܬܘܢ ܠܢ ܕܛܒ ܪܚܝܩܝܢܢ ܡܢܟܘܢ ܘܗܐ ܠܘܬܢ ܥ̇ܡܪܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ
'nthwn emryn lwthn wh' mnkwn rkhyqynn dTb ln w'mrthwn nklthwnn lmn' lhwn w'mr yshwe 'nwn wqr'
Joshua called for them, and he spoke to them, saying, “Why have you deceived us, saying, ‘We are very far from you,’ when you live among us?

ܡܟܝܠ ܬܗܘܘܢ ܠܝܛܝܢ ܘܠܐ ܢܥܢܕ ܡܢܟܘܢ ܓܒܪܐ ܠܩ̇ܛ ܩܝܣ̈ܐ ܘܡ̇ܠܐ ܡ̈ܝܐ ܠܒܝܬܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ
d'lh' lbythh my' wml' qys' lqT gbr' mnkwn nend wl' lyTyn thhwwn mkyl
Now therefore you are cursed, and some of you will never fail to be slaves, both wood cutters and drawers of water for the house of my God.”

ܘܥܢܘ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܝܫܘܥ ܡܫܬܡܥܘ ܐܫܬܡܥ ܠܥܒ̈ܕܝܟ ܡܕܡ ܕܦܩܕ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܟ ܠܡܘܫܐ ܥܒܕܗ ܠܡܬܠ ܠܟܘܢ ܟܠܗ̇ ܐܪܥܐ ܘܠܡܘܒܕܘ ܠܟܠܗܘܢ ܥܡܘܪ̈ܝܗ̇ ܕܐܪܥܐ ܡܢ ܩܕܡܝܟܘܢ ܘܕܚܠܢ ܛܒ ܡܢ ܢܦܫܢ ܘܥܒܕܢ ܗܟܢܐ

They answered Joshua, and said, “Because your servants were certainly told how Yahweh your God commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you. Therefore we were very afraid for our lives because of you, and have done this thing.

ܘܗܫܐ ܗܐ ܒܐ̈ܝܕܝܟ ܚܢܢ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܕܫܦܝܪ ܒܥܝܢ̈ܝܟ ܠܡܥܒܕ ܠܢ ܥܒܕ ܠܢ
ln ebd ln lmebd beynyk dshpyr 'ykn' khnn b'ydyk h' whsh'
Now, behold, we are in your hand. Do to us as it seems good and right to you to do.”

ܘܥܒܕ ܠܗܘܢ ܗܟܢܐ ܘܦܨܝ ܐܢܘܢ ܡܢ ܐܝܕܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܠܐ ܩܛܠ ܐܢܘܢ
'nwn qTl wl' d'ysryl 'yd' mn 'nwn wptsy hkn' lhwn webd
He did so to them, and delivered them out of the hand of the children of Israel, so that they didn’t kill them.

ܘܥܒܕ ܐܢܘܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܒܗ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܗ̇ܘ ܠܩ̈ܛܝ ܩܝܣ̈ܐ ܘܡ̈ܠܝܝ ܡ̈ܝܐ ܠܟܢܘܫܬܐ ܘܠܡܕܒܚܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܝܘܡܢܐ ܒܐܬܪܐ ܕܨܒ̇ܐ ܡܪܝܐ
mry' dtsb' b'thr' lywmn' edm' dmry' wlmdbkhh lknwshth' my' wmlyy qys' lqTy hw bywm' bh yshwe 'nwn webd
That day Joshua made them wood cutters and drawers of water for the congregation and for Yahweh’s altar to this day, in the place which he should choose.
