ושקרו בני ישראל שקר בחרמא ונסיב עכן בר כרמי בר זבדי בר זרח לשבטא דיהודה מן חרמא ותקיף רוגזא דיי בבני ישראל:
yshral bbny dyy rwgza wthqyp khrma mn dyhwdh lshbTa zrkh br zbdy br krmy br ekn wnsyb bkhrma shqr yshral bny wshqrw
But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the devoted things; for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of the devoted things. Therefore Yahweh’s anger burned against the children of Israel.

ושלח יהושע גברין מיריחו לעי דעם בית און ממדנח לבית אל ואמר להון למימר סקו ואלילו ית ארעא וסליקו גבריא ואלילו ית עי:
ey yth walylw gbrya wslyqw area yth walylw sqw lmymr lhwn wamr al lbyth mmdnkh awn byth dem ley myrykhw gbryn yhwshe wshlkh
Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth Aven, on the east side of Bethel, and spoke to them, saying, “Go up and spy out the land.” The men went up and spied out Ai.

ותבו לות יהושע ואמרו ליה לא יסק כל עמא כתרין אלפין גברא או כתלתא אלפין גברא יסקון וימחון ית עי לא תרגיש לתמן ית כל עמא ארי זעירין אינון:
aynwn zeyryn ary ema kl yth lthmn thrgysh la ey yth wymkhwn ysqwn gbra alpyn kthltha aw gbra alpyn kthryn ema kl ysq la lyh wamrw yhwshe lwth wthbw
They returned to Joshua, and said to him, “Don’t let all the people go up, but let about two or three thousand men go up and strike Ai. Don’t make all the people to toil there, for there are only a few of them.”

וסליקו מן עמא לתמן כתלתא אלפין גברא ואפיכו קדם אנשי עי:
ey anshy qdm wapykw gbra alpyn kthltha lthmn ema mn wslyqw
So about three thousand men of the people went up there, and they fled before the men of Ai.

וקטלו מנהון אנשי עי כתלתין ושתא גברא ורדפונון קדם תרעא עד דתברונון ומחונון במחתנא ואתמסי לבא דעמא והוה למיא:
lmya whwh dema lba wathmsy bmkhthna wmkhwnwn dthbrwnwn ed threa qdm wrdpwnwn gbra wshtha kthlthyn ey anshy mnhwn wqTlw
The men of Ai struck about thirty-six men of them. They chased them from before the gate even to Shebarim, and struck them at the descent. The hearts of the people melted, and became like water.

ובזע יהושע לבושוהי ונפל על אפוהי על ארעא קדם ארונא דיי עד רמשא הוא וסבי ישראל ואסיקו עפרא על רישיהון:
ryshyhwn el epra wasyqw yshral wsby hwa rmsha ed dyy arwna qdm area el apwhy el wnpl lbwshwhy yhwshe wbze
Joshua tore his clothes, and fell to the earth on his face before Yahweh’s ark until the evening, he and the elders of Israel; and they put dust on their heads.

ואמר יהושע קביל בעותי יי אלהים למא אעברתא אעברא ית עמא הדין ית ירדנא לממסר יתנא בידא דאמוראה לאובדותנא ולוי פון דשרינא ויתיבנא בעברא דירדנא:
dyrdna bebra wythybna dshryna pwn wlwy lawbdwthna damwrah byda ythna lmmsr yrdna yth hdyn ema yth aebra aebrtha lma alhym yy bewthy qbyl yhwshe wamr
Joshua said, “Alas, Lord Yahweh, why have you brought this people over the Jordan at all, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to cause us to perish? I wish that we had been content and lived beyond the Jordan!

בבעו אדני מה אימר בתר דאחזרו ישראל קדלהון למהפך קדם בעלי דבביהון:
dbbyhwn bely qdm lmhpk qdlhwn yshral dakhzrw bthr aymr mh adny bbew
Oh, Lord, what shall I say, after Israel has turned their backs before their enemies?

וישמעון כנענאי וכל יתבי ארעא ויסתחרון עלנא וישצון ית שמנא מן ארעא ומה תעבד בדיל שמך רבא:
rba shmk bdyl thebd wmh area mn shmna yth wyshtswn elna wysthkhrwn area ythby wkl knenay wyshmewn
For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it, and will surround us, and cut off our name from the earth. What will you do for your great name?”

ואמר יי ליהושע קום לך למה דנן את רמי על אפך:
apk el rmy ath dnn lmh lk qwm lyhwshe yy wamr
Yahweh said to Joshua, “Get up! Why have you fallen on your face like that?

חטא ישראל ואף עברו על קימי דפקדית יתהון ואף נסיבו מן חרמא ואף גנבו ואף כדיבו ואף שויאו במניהון:
bmnyhwn shwyaw wap kdybw wap gnbw wap khrma mn nsybw wap ythhwn dpqdyth qymy el ebrw wap yshral khTa
Israel has sinned. Yes, they have even transgressed my covenant which I commanded them. Yes, they have even taken some of the devoted things, and have also stolen, and also deceived. They have even put it among their own stuff.

ולא יכלון בני ישראל למקם קדם בעלי דבביהון קדלהון יחזרון למיפך קדם בעלי דבביהון ארי הוו לחרמא לא אוסיף למהוי מימרי בסעדכון אם לא תשיצון חרמא מבניכון:
mbnykwn khrma thshytswn la am bsedkwn mymry lmhwy awsyp la lkhrma hww ary dbbyhwn bely qdm lmypk ykhzrwn qdlhwn dbbyhwn bely qdm lmqm yshral bny yklwn wla
Therefore the children of Israel can’t stand before their enemies. They turn their backs before their enemies, because they have become devoted for destruction. I will not be with you any more, unless you destroy the devoted things from among you.

קום זמן ית עמא ותימר אזדמנו למחר ארי כדנן אמר יי אלהא דישראל חרמא בינך ישראל לא תכול למיקם קדם בעלי דבבך עד דתעדון חרמא מביניכון:
mbynykwn khrma dthedwn ed dbbk bely qdm lmyqm thkwl la yshral bynk khrma dyshral alha yy amr kdnn ary lmkhr azdmnw wthymr ema yth zmn qwm
Get up! Sanctify the people, and say, ‘Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, for Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, “There is a devoted thing among you, Israel. You cannot stand before your enemies until you take away the devoted thing from among you.”

ותתקרבון בצפרא לשבטיכון ויהי שבטא דיתאחד מן קדם יי יקרב לזרעין וזרעיתא דיתאחד מן קדם יי תקרב לבתין וביתא דיתאחד מן קדם יי יתקרב לגבריא:
lgbrya ythqrb yy qdm mn dythakhd wbytha lbthyn thqrb yy qdm mn dythakhd wzreytha lzreyn yqrb yy qdm mn dythakhd shbTa wyhy lshbTykwn btspra wththqrbwn
In the morning therefore you shall be brought near by your tribes. It shall be that the tribe which Yahweh selects shall come near by families. The family which Yahweh selects shall come near by households. The household which Yahweh selects shall come near man by man.

ויהי דיתאחד בחרמא יתוקד בנורא יתיה וכל די ליה ארי עבר על קימא דיי וארי עבד דלא כשר בישראל:
byshral kshr dla ebd wary dyy qyma el ebr ary lyh dy wkl ythyh bnwra ythwqd bkhrma dythakhd wyhy
It shall be, that he who is taken with the devoted thing shall be burned with fire, he and all that he has, because he has transgressed Yahweh’s covenant, and because he has done a disgraceful thing in Israel.’”

ואקדם יהושע בצפרא וקריב ית ישראל לשבטוהי ואתאחד שבטא דבית יהודה:
yhwdh dbyth shbTa wathakhd lshbTwhy yshral yth wqryb btspra yhwshe waqdm
So Joshua rose up early in the morning and brought Israel near by their tribes. The tribe of Judah was selected.

וקריב ית זרעית יהודה ואחד ית זרעית זרח וקריב ית זרעית זרח לגבריא ואתאחד זבדי:
zbdy wathakhd lgbrya zrkh zreyth yth wqryb zrkh zreyth yth wakhd yhwdh zreyth yth wqryb
He brought near the family of Judah, and he selected the family of the Zerahites. He brought near the family of the Zerahites man by man, and Zabdi was selected.

וקריב ית ביתיה לגבריא ואתאחד עכן בר כרמי בר זבדי בר זרח לשבטא דיהודא:
dyhwda lshbTa zrkh br zbdy br krmy br ekn wathakhd lgbrya bythyh yth wqryb
He brought near his household man by man, and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was selected.

ואמר יהושע לעכן ברי שוי כען יקרא קדם יי אלהא דישראל והב קדמוהי הודאה וחוי כען לי מה עבדתא לא תכסי מיני:
myny thksy la ebdtha mh ly ken wkhwy hwdah qdmwhy whb dyshral alha yy qdm yqra ken shwy bry lekn yhwshe wamr
Joshua said to Achan, “My son, please give glory to Yahweh, the God of Israel, and make confession to him. Tell me now what you have done! Don’t hide it from me!”

ואתיב עכן ית יהושע ואמר בקושטא אנא חבית קדם יי אלהא דישראל וכדין וכדין עבדית:
ebdyth wkdyn wkdyn dyshral alha yy qdm khbyth ana bqwshTa wamr yhwshe yth ekn wathyb
Achan answered Joshua, and said, “I have truly sinned against Yahweh, the God of Israel, and this is what I have done.

וחזית בבזתא אצטלי בבלי חד שפיר ומאתן סלעין דכסף ולישנא דדהבא חד חמשין סלעין מתקליה ורגגתינון ונסבתנון והא אנון טמירין בארעא בגו משכני וכספא תחותא:
thkhwtha wkspa mshkny bgw barea Tmyryn anwn wha wnsbthnwn wrggthynwn mthqlyh sleyn khmshyn khd ddhba wlyshna dksp sleyn wmathn shpyr khd bbly atsTly bbztha wkhzyth
When I saw among the plunder a beautiful Babylonian robe, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, then I coveted them and took them. Behold, they are hidden in the ground in the middle of my tent, with the silver under it.”

ושלח יהושע אזגדון ורהטו למשכנא והא טמירין במשכניה וכספא תחותא:
thkhwtha wkspa bmshknyh Tmyryn wha lmshkna wrhTw azgdwn yhwshe wshlkh
So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent. Behold, it was hidden in his tent, with the silver under it.

ונסיבונון מגו משכנא ואיתיאונון לות יהושע ולות כל בני ישראל ואתיכונון קדם יי:
yy qdm wathykwnwn yshral bny kl wlwth yhwshe lwth waythyawnwn mshkna mgw wnsybwnwn
They took them from the middle of the tent, and brought them to Joshua and to all the children of Israel. They laid them down before Yahweh.

ודבר יהושע ית עכן בר זרח וית כספא וית אצטלא וית לישנא דדהבא ודבר ית בנוהי וית בנתיה וית תוריה וית חמריה וית עניה וית משכניה וית כל דיליה וכל ישראל עמיה ואסיקו יתהון למישר עכור:
ekwr lmyshr ythhwn wasyqw emyh yshral wkl dylyh kl wyth mshknyh wyth enyh wyth khmryh wyth thwryh wyth bnthyh wyth bnwhy yth wdbr ddhba lyshna wyth atsTla wyth kspa wyth zrkh br ekn yth yhwshe wdbr
Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, the silver, the robe, the wedge of gold, his sons, his daughters, his cattle, his donkeys, his sheep, his tent, and all that he had; and they brought them up to the valley of Achor.

ואמר יהושע מה עכרתנא יעכרינך יי ביומא הדין ורגמו יתיה כל ישראל באבניא ואוקידו יתהון בנורא בתר דרגימו יתהון באבניא:
babnya ythhwn drgymw bthr bnwra ythhwn wawqydw babnya yshral kl ythyh wrgmw hdyn bywma yy yekrynk ekrthna mh yhwshe wamr
Joshua said, “Why have you troubled us? Yahweh will trouble you today.” All Israel stoned him with stones, and they burned them with fire and stoned them with stones.

ואקימו עלוהי דגור אבנין רב עד יומא הדין ותב יי מתקוף רוגזיה על כן קרא שמא דאתרא ההוא מישר עכור עד יומא הדין:
hdyn ywma ed ekwr myshr hhwa dathra shma qra kn el rwgzyh mthqwp yy wthb hdyn ywma ed rb abnyn dgwr elwhy waqymw
They raised over him a great heap of stones that remains to this day. Yahweh turned from the fierceness of his anger. Therefore the name of that place was called “The valley of Achor” to this day.
