ושלח יהושע בר נון מן שטין תרין גוברין מאללין ברז למימר אזילו חזו ית ארעא וית יריחו ואזלו ועלו לבית אתתא פונדקיתא ושמה רחב ושכיבו תמן:
thmn wshkybw rkhb wshmh pwndqytha aththa lbyth welw wazlw yrykhw wyth area yth khzw azylw lmymr brz mallyn gwbryn thryn shTyn mn nwn br yhwshe wshlkh
Joshua the son of Nun secretly sent two men out of Shittim as spies, saying, “Go, view the land, including Jericho.” They went and came into the house of a prostitute whose name was Rahab, and slept there.

ואתאמר למלכא דיריחו למימר הא גובריא אתו הכא בליליא מבני ישראל לאללא ית ארעא:
area yth lalla yshral mbny blylya hka athw gwbrya ha lmymr dyrykhw lmlka wathamr
The king of Jericho was told, “Behold, men of the children of Israel came in here tonight to spy out the land.”

ושלח מלכא דיריחו לות רחב למימר אפיקי גבריא דאתו לותיך דעלו לביתיך ארי לאללא ית כל ארעא אתו:
athw area kl yth lalla ary lbythyk delw lwthyk dathw gbrya apyqy lmymr rkhb lwth dyrykhw mlka wshlkh
Jericho’s king sent to Rahab, saying, “Bring out the men who have come to you, who have entered into your house; for they have come to spy out all the land.”

ודבירת אתתא ית תרין גבריא ואטמרתנון ואמרת בקושטא אתו לותי גבריא ולא ידעית אי מנן אינון:
aynwn mnn ay ydeyth wla gbrya lwthy athw bqwshTa wamrth waTmrthnwn gbrya thryn yth aththa wdbyrth
The woman took the two men and hid them. Then she said, “Yes, the men came to me, but I didn’t know where they came from.

והוה עדן למיחד תרעא בקבלה וגבריא נפקו לא ידעית לאן אזלו גבריא רדפו בפריע בתריהון ארי תדבקונון:
thdbqwnwn ary bthryhwn bprye rdpw gbrya azlw lan ydeyth la npqw wgbrya bqblh threa lmykhd edn whwh
About the time of the shutting of the gate, when it was dark, the men went out. Where the men went, I don’t know. Pursue them quickly. You may catch up with them.”

והיא אסקתנון לאגרא ואטמרתנון בטעוני כתנא דסדירין לה על אגרא:
agra el lh dsdyryn kthna bTewny waTmrthnwn lagra asqthnwn whya
But she had brought them up to the roof, and hidden them under the stalks of flax which she had laid in order on the roof.

וגבריא רדפו בתריהון אורח ירדנא עד מגזתא ותרעא אחדו בתר דנפקו רדפיא בתריהון:
bthryhwn rdpya dnpqw bthr akhdw wthrea mgztha ed yrdna awrkh bthryhwn rdpw wgbrya
The men pursued them along the way to the fords of the Jordan River. As soon as those who pursued them had gone out, they shut the gate.

ואינון עד לא שכיבו והיא סליקת לותהון לאגרא:
lagra lwthhwn slyqth whya shkybw la ed waynwn
Before they had lain down, she came up to them on the roof.

ואמרת לגבריא ידענא ארי יהב יי לכון ית ארעא וארי נפלת אמתכון עלנא וארי אתברו כל יתבי ארעא מן קדמיכון:
qdmykwn mn area ythby kl athbrw wary elna amthkwn nplth wary area yth lkwn yy yhb ary ydena lgbrya wamrth
She said to the men, “I know that Yahweh has given you the land, and that the fear of you has fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you.

ארי שמענא ית דיבש יי ית מי ימא דסוף מן קדמיכון במפקכון ממצרים ודי עבדתון לתרין מלכי אמוראה די בעברא דירדנא לסיחון ולעוג די גמרתון יתהון:
ythhwn gmrthwn dy wlewg lsykhwn dyrdna bebra dy amwrah mlky lthryn ebdthwn wdy mmtsrym bmpqkwn qdmykwn mn dswp yma my yth yy dybsh yth shmena ary
For we have heard how Yahweh dried up the water of the Red Sea before you, when you came out of Egypt; and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and to Og, whom you utterly destroyed.

ושמענא ואתמסי לבנא ולא אשתארת עוד רוחא באנש מן קדמיכון ארי יי אלהכון הוא אלהא דשכינתיה בשמיא מלעילא ושליט על ארעא מלרע:
mlre area el wshlyT mleyla bshmya dshkynthyh alha hwa alhkwn yy ary qdmykwn mn bansh rwkha ewd ashtharth wla lbna wathmsy wshmena
As soon as we had heard it, our hearts melted, and there wasn’t any more spirit in any man, because of you: for Yahweh your God, he is God in heaven above, and on earth beneath.

וכען קיימו כען לי במימרא דיי ארי עבדית עמכון טיבו ותעבדון אף אתון עם בית אבא טיבו ותתנון לי את דקשוט:
dqshwT ath ly wththnwn Tybw aba byth em athwn ap wthebdwn Tybw emkwn ebdyth ary dyy bmymra ly ken qyymw wken
Now therefore, please swear to me by Yahweh, since I have dealt kindly with you, that you also will deal kindly with my father’s house, and give me a true sign;

ותיחון ית אבא וית אמא וית אחי וית אחתי וית כל דילהון ותשזבון ית נפשתנא ממותא:
mmwtha npshthna yth wthshzbwn dylhwn kl wyth akhthy wyth akhy wyth ama wyth aba yth wthykhwn
and that you will save alive my father, my mother, my brothers, and my sisters, and all that they have, and will deliver our lives from death.”

ואמרו לה גבריא נפשנא מסירן חלף נפשתיכון לממת אם לא תחוון ית פתגמנא דין ויהי כד יתן יי לנא ית ארעא ונעבד עמך טיבו וקשוט:
wqshwT Tybw emk wnebd area yth lna yy ythn kd wyhy dyn pthgmna yth thkhwwn la am lmmth npshthykwn khlp msyrn npshna gbrya lh wamrw
The men said to her, “Our life for yours, if you don’t talk about this business of ours; and it shall be, when Yahweh gives us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with you.”

ושלשלתנון באטונא מן חרכא ארי ביתה בכותל שורא ובשורא היא יתבה:
ythbh hya wbshwra shwra bkwthl bythh ary khrka mn baTwna wshlshlthnwn
Then she let them down by a cord through the window; for her house was on the side of the wall, and she lived on the wall.

ואמרת להון לטורא אזילו דלמא יערעון בכון רדפיא ותטמרון תמן תלתא יומין עד דיתובון רדפיא ובתר כן תהכון לאורחתכון:
lawrkhthkwn thhkwn kn wbthr rdpya dythwbwn ed ywmyn thltha thmn wthTmrwn rdpya bkwn yerewn dlma azylw lTwra lhwn wamrth
She said to them, “Go to the mountain, lest the pursuers find you. Hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers have returned. Afterward, you may go your way.”

ואמרו לה גבריא זכאין אנחנא ממומתך הדא דקימת עלנא:
elna dqymth hda mmwmthk ankhna zkayn gbrya lh wamrw
The men said to her, “We will be guiltless of this your oath which you’ve made us to swear.
18
הא אנחנא עלין בארעא ית תורא דחוט זהוריתא הדין תקטרי בחרכא דשלשלתנא ביה וית אבוך וית אמך וית אחיכי וית כל בית אבוך תכנשין לותיך לביתא:
lbytha lwthyk thknshyn abwk byth kl wyth akhyky wyth amk wyth abwk wyth byh dshlshlthna bkhrka thqTry hdyn zhwrytha dkhwT thwra yth barea elyn ankhna ha
Behold, when we come into the land, tie this line of scarlet thread in the window which you used to let us down. Gather to yourself into the house your father, your mother, your brothers, and all your father’s household.

ויהי כל דיפוק בר מדשי ביתך לברא חובת קטוליה ברישיה ואנחנא זכאין וכל די יהי עמך בביתא חובת קטוליה ברישנא אם יד אנש תהי ביה:
byh thhy ansh yd am bryshna qTwlyh khwbth bbytha emk yhy dy wkl zkayn wankhna bryshyh qTwlyh khwbth lbra bythk mdshy br dypwq kl wyhy
It shall be that whoever goes out of the doors of your house into the street, his blood will be on his head, and we will be guiltless. Whoever is with you in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand is on him.
20
ואם תחוין ית פתגמנא דין ונהי זכאין ממומתיך דקיימת עלנא:
elna dqyymth mmwmthyk zkayn wnhy dyn pthgmna yth thkhwyn wam
But if you talk about this business of ours, then we shall be guiltless of your oath which you’ve made us to swear.”

ואמרת כפתגמיכון כן הוא ושלחתנון ואזלו וקטרת ית תורא דזהוריתא בחרכא:
bkhrka dzhwrytha thwra yth wqTrth wazlw wshlkhthnwn hwa kn kpthgmykwn wamrth
She said, “Let it be as you have said.” She sent them away, and they departed. Then she tied the scarlet line in the window.

ואזלו ועלו לטורא ויתבו תמן תלתא יומין עד דתבו רדפיא ובעו רדפיא בכל ארחא ולא אשכחו:
ashkkhw wla arkha bkl rdpya wbew rdpya dthbw ed ywmyn thltha thmn wythbw lTwra welw wazlw
They went and came to the mountain, and stayed there three days, until the pursuers had returned. The pursuers sought them all along the way, but didn’t find them.

ותבו תרין גברין ונחיתו מן טורא ועברו ואתו לות יהושע בר נון ואשתעיאו ליה ית כל דערעא יתהון:
ythhwn derea kl yth lyh washtheyaw nwn br yhwshe lwth wathw webrw Twra mn wnkhythw gbryn thryn wthbw
Then the two men returned, descended from the mountain, crossed the river, and came to Joshua the son of Nun. They told him all that had happened to them.
