ובאש ליונה בישא רבא ותקיף ליה:
lyh wthqyp rba bysha lywnh wbash
But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was angry.

וצלי קדם יי ואמר קביל בעותי יי הלא דין פתגמי עד דהויתי על דהויתי על ארעי על כן אוחיתי למערק לימא ארי ידענא ארי את אלהא חננא ורחמנא מרחיק רגז ומסגי למעבד טבון ומתיב מימריה מלאיתאה בישתא:
byshtha mlaythah mymryh wmthyb Tbwn lmebd wmsgy rgz mrkhyq wrkhmna khnna alha ath ary ydena ary lyma lmerq awkhythy kn el arey el dhwythy el dhwythy ed pthgmy dyn hla yy bewthy qbyl wamr yy qdm wtsly
He prayed to Yahweh, and said, “Please, Yahweh, wasn’t this what I said when I was still in my own country? Therefore I hurried to flee to Tarshish, for I knew that you are a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, and you relent of doing harm.

וכען יי סב כען ית נפשי מני ארי טב דאמות מדאיחי:
mdaykhy damwth Tb ary mny npshy yth ken sb yy wken
Therefore now, Yahweh, take, I beg you, my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live.”

ונפק יונה מן קרתא ויתיב ממדנח לקרתא ועבד ליה תמן מטללתא ויתיב תחותה בטולא עד דיחזי מה יהי בסוף קרתא:
qrtha bswp yhy mh dykhzy ed bTwla thkhwthh wythyb mTlltha thmn lyh webd lqrtha mmdnkh wythyb qrtha mn ywnh wnpq
Then Jonah went out of the city and sat on the east side of the city, and there made himself a booth and sat under it in the shade, until he might see what would become of the city.

וזמין יי אלהים קיקיון וסליק עיל מן יונה למהוי טולא על רישיה לאגנא ליה מבישתיה וחדי יונה על קיקיון חדוא רבא:
rba khdwa qyqywn el ywnh wkhdy mbyshthyh lyh lagna ryshyh el Twla lmhwy ywnh mn eyl wslyq qyqywn alhym yy wzmyn
Yahweh God prepared a vine and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shade over his head to deliver him from his discomfort. So Jonah was exceedingly glad because of the vine.

וזמין יי ית תולעתא במיסק צפרא ביומא דבתרוהי ומחא ית קיקיון ויבש:
wybsh qyqywn yth wmkha dbthrwhy bywma tspra bmysq thwletha yth yy wzmyn
But God prepared a worm at dawn the next day, and it chewed on the vine so that it withered.

והוה כמדנח שמשא וזמין יי רוח קדומא שתיקא וטפחת שמשא על רישא דיונה ואשתלהי ושאיל ית נפשיה למימת ואמר טב דאמות מדאיחי:
mdaykhy damwth Tb wamr lmymth npshyh yth wshayl washthlhy dywnh rysha el shmsha wTpkhth shthyqa qdwma rwkh yy wzmyn shmsha kmdnkh whwh
When the sun arose, God prepared a sultry east wind; and the sun beat on Jonah’s head, so that he was faint and requested for himself that he might die. He said, “It is better for me to die than to live.”

ואמר יי ליונה הלחדא תקיף לך על קיקיון ואמר לחדא תקוף לי עד מותא:
mwtha ed ly thqwp lkhda wamr qyqywn el lk thqyp hlkhda lywnh yy wamr
God said to Jonah, “Is it right for you to be angry about the vine?” He said, “I am right to be angry, even to death.”

ואמר יי את חסתא על קיקיון דלא עמלת ביה ולא רביתיה די בליליא הדין הוה ובליליא אוחרנא אבד:
abd awkhrna wblylya hwh hdyn blylya dy rbythyh wla byh emlth dla qyqywn el khstha ath yy wamr
Yahweh said, “You have been concerned for the vine, for which you have not labored, neither made it grow; which came up in a night and perished in a night.

ואנא לא אחוס על נינוה קרתא רבתא דאית בה סגי מתרתא עסרי רבון אנשא דלא ידע בין ימיניה לסמליה ובעירא סגי:
sgy wbeyra lsmlyh ymynyh byn yde dla ansha rbwn esry mthrtha sgy bh dayth rbtha qrtha nynwh el akhws la wana
Shouldn’t I be concerned for Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred twenty thousand persons who can’t discern between their right hand and their left hand, and also many animals?”
